Preview of pages documents in folders

The preview box in column view normally shows a mini-picture of the first page of a document. However, for some pages document the preview is blank, even if the document is not. I cannot see any difference in the file-info (cmd-I) window for documents that show a proper preview and documents with a blank preview. How do I get all documents to behave the same when it comes to looking at the info in column view?

Choose pages>preferences>general click the 'include preview in document by default' check box.

  • How do i upload Pages documents and folders to iCloud and make sure they sync on all my devices?

    Hi,
I'm new to iCloud and don't really know how to use it yet.  I have a desktop Mac, a Macbook Pro laptop and an iPad.  Currently all my Pages documents are on my desktop computer.  I would like to upload them to iCloud and then have it set so that they automatically sync and I can access them on all my devices.  I want to make sure I always have the most up to date version of a document when I open it on any device, without having to update manually.  Can anyone tell me please how I do this?  Can I keep them in folders (there are a lot of documents!).
Also, because I just upgraded Pages and was previously using Pages 09 it keeps asking me each time I open a document if I want to upgrade it to the current Pages.  Can I somehow set this as default now so I won't keep having to say yes?
    Thanks for any help!

To use icloud,  enable it (using the same Apple ID) on all your devices. If you move a document that already exists to iCloud, it will automatically be available to all your devices. Ditto on new doc: if you save it to icloud when you name it, it will automatically be available to all your devices.  If you make a change on one device, you'll be prompted on other devices to pick the one you want to keep,
One BIG proviso: pages 5.1, and Pages for icloud,  are VERY BUGGY. Users here complain of corrupted files, lost data, the program hanging, etc. DO NOT user them for anything you care about.
Also, Pages 5.1, as exhaustively documented here, is a pale shadow of Pages 4.3. Nearly a hundred features present in 4.3 are not present in Pages 5.1, including such basic things as mail merge, bookmarks, meaningful Applescript and Services support. You cannot even set the default zoom, reliably export documents with links to a PDF, or view comments while editing (nor can you print comments).  It is useless for page layout since you can no longer view a page spread, nor set alernating left/right margins and headers and footers.  A lot of advance typographical support has gone missing, too. Non contgious text selection? Gone. How many pages in your document?  You have to dig down in the little "word count" bubble (after turning it on) to find out. Why?  As an early review put it, Pages 5 is an "unmitigated disaster."
To stop being promted to update, go to system preferences and uncheck "automatically check for updates."

  • How do I organize pages documents into folders on iPad?

I'm both an author and a student and could greatly benefit from using this program for my documents, and if you look at the top of the screen, there is an icon of a folder there, but how the heck do I organize my documents into the folders?
I can't imagine having to scroll through hundreds of documents to find the one I want... but this seems to be the only way to find things. Is it possible that we can put a man on the moon but can't organize our documents in pages?
    I think not.
So please, somebody tell me how to deal with this mess.
    Thanks!!

You are in the Mac iWork area. Better to ask the iPad folks.

  • In Pages 5 when I try to attach a pages document to an email it gives me 2 folders and 4 files ???  How does one email a pages document.

How does one email a pages document? In pages 5 when I try to attach a pages document to a gmail email it gives me 2 folders and 4 other files to choose from.

Sounds like you are using Gmail.
Pages 5 uses a zipped package of files as its format. 3rd party servers don't understand the format and show it as the component parts.
Use Mail toenail the file or zip the .pages document before sending.

  • Updating preview thumbnail in Pages document

I have some older Pages documents that have never displayed properly in any document readers for iPhone, including the iDisk app (the text runs off the bottom of the page).  Apple help documents indicate that you need to check the "Include preview in document by default" in preferences>general when saving in order to avoid this problem.  While this works for recent documents I create, it will not correct the older documents.  Even if I make text changes to the older documents and then re-save it, the text changes appear in the document reader on my iphone but the formatting is still broken (text runs off page).  I can only get the formatting to show up properly if I create a new blank document in Pages and then copy and past the text from the old document into the new one and save it for viewing on the iPhone.
Does anyone know how I can update/fix the preview in these older documents without having to copy and paste all of them into new ones?
    Thanks
    John

Which is the structure of your old documents ?
Is it th epackage one which is the only one available in iWork '08 or is it the flatfile one which is the default one in iWork '09.
I f you don't know, control click the icon of one of them.
If you get a contextual menu with the item "Show Package Contents", it's a … package.
In this case, rename the document ffrom trucmuche.pages to trucmuche.template.
    Double-click it.
You will get a new replica. Save it.
If your application is set to save in the flatfile format, you will get a flatfile file and I guess that it will behave the wanted way.

  • Preview not opening new pages documents after Yosemite upgrade

Just upgraded to Yosemite and also upgraded Pages to 5.5.  Created a new Pages document and now, in Finder, the preview does not work.  If I control click on the pages file and select open with Preview I get an error "The file “XXXXX.pages” could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."  Existing (previous version) Pages documents do open in Finder.  Does anyone else have this problem?

Yes this has been reported by others.
    No solution, so far.

  • Folders for my pages documents on icloud

I would like to make folders for my pages documents on icloud can this be done easily? Also the icloud help menu claims I am not connected to internet what is going on there? I am obviously connected I made this post didn't I or is my head in the clouds?

    Hi crward.
The application I was using is Pages for OS X, not the beta iCloud app. Apple did recover most of the lost data but not all--there remains a discrepancy of about (33) thirty-three documents. (see below)
As to your recommendation... As for Google, I've had a Gmail/Google Apps .EDU account since my college days, all the data in Google Docs/Drive hasn't been touched since I left it so that's a good sign. In contrast, considering this is the second time I've suffered a data loss with iCloud (Sep. 2013, when iOS 7 was released), I am ready to pull the plug and move on to another service like Google or Microsoft. My wife has an Office 365 subscription and uses OneDrive (not Google) a lot, I may take her up on it--they get 1TB of storage! (I'd be lucky to use more than a GB or two.) Most, if not all, of my colleagues use Word/Office so I will likely be limping back to using Word again. I used Pages all through graduate school and beyond, no issues with the app itself; however, since Pages saves documents by default to iCloud, I had little reason to think it would less-safe on iCloud than on my own computer (HDDs crash all the time).
Moving forward, I will be advising my friends, family, and colleagues to avoid iCloud altogether.
This is what Apple recovered.... Approx. 173 documents, approximately 84% of what there originally was. (I've already moved them to Google Drive for safe keeping)
This is what was originally in there... 205 documents.

  • How do I delete 'ghost' Pages documents from iCloud / iPhone?

Today I got back a brand new iPhone 4 from the repair. It was already preinstalled with iOS 5, just updated to 5.0.1 and restored data from backup on iTunes. Enabled iCloud, opened Pages and…after 5-10 seconds iCloud started to sync and I got almost dozen "ghost" files in Pages — inf folders they look like normal Pages documents, but when I open folder, they are grayed out and at the top right corner they have arrow pointing upwards. Can't delete, can't open them.
Completely closed Pages, disabled data backup in iCloud preferences, turned off iCloud sync in Pages settings. Opened Pages, chose to delete all files in Pages. Restarted iPhone, enabled iCloud data backup and enabled iCloud sync in Pages settings, opened Pages, and soon real files appeared in Pages, which I could see also in Safari browser in iCloud/Pages section. However, after one minute all those "ghost" files and folders also appeared back! I can't even drag those "ghost" documents out of "ghost" folders, can't rename, can't delete. And someone not long ago ensured us that iCloud will surely work…
I deleted Pages application form my iPhone, installed from App Store again, enabled iCloud syncing and again after 1 minute all "ghost" files are back in Pages. In Safari browser I see only one "ghost" file, all the other "ghost" files and folders are not visible at all. Any idea what to do?

Problem solved! I completely quit Pages on my iPhone, then opened ~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~Pages/Documents folder on my Mac and deleted all those "ghost" folders and files there, also deleted the same names in iWorkPreviews folder. Opened Pages on iPhone and voila! — all those "ghost" files and folders disappeared for good.

  • The latest version of Pages does not allow a Pages document to become a 'stationery pad'!  Is there a way to do this this other than through the 'Get Info' window?

The latest version of Mavericks does not allow a Pages document to become a 'stationery pad'!  Is there a way to do this this other than through the 'Get Info' window?  As Pages templates cannot be ordered in folders, my many templates are effectively unusable now and I need to find another way to order and access them.

Are you aware of that you can still use Pages 09 on Mavericks? You don't have to go thru the grieves of using the crippled Pages 5. Pages 09 should bi in Applications/iWork 09 folder.

  • How do I use icloud to restore my documents that were in Pages? Pages got stuck in "waiting" to update and when nothing else worked I deleted it and reloaded Pages. I don't want to restore everything just my Pages documents.

How do I use icloud to restore my documents that were in Pages? Pages got stuck in "waiting" to update and when nothing else worked I deleted it and reloaded Pages. Everything I can find is about wiping everything out and restoring everything. I don't want to restore everything just my Pages documents (and numbers and keynote that also locked up during updating).

What I meant is turn off Documents and Data in iCloud in OS X. Keep it on on your iOS devices. iCloud will sync documents between the iOS devices and make them available on the iCloud web site, but it won't mess up iWorks' open and save dialog boxes. It also won't assume that you want all your documents in iCloud, which I think is undesirable anyway.
Keep iOS and OS X separate, and use the web site to move files between the two as necessary.
iOS iWork is different from OS X iWork. There are fewer fonts on an iOS device. iOS iWork programs have slightly different feature sets than OS X iWork programs, and the file formats are different. iCloud automatically converts the file format when necessary, but if you make a habit of saving things directly to iCloud, you are limited to the lowest common denominator between the two versions of iWorks. So why would anyone want iWork on the Mac to open and save documents on iCloud by default?
If you want to store files in the cloud and sync them on your Macs, SugarSync is a much better solution. It lets you choose your sync folders, it doesn't make you reorganize your files, it lets you sync all file types, it doesn't convert files to a different format and back, and it stores everything in the cloud, too. Just the simle act of saving a file backs it up and syncs it. I wouldn't live without it. iCloud is best with iTunes purchases and synchronizing Mac settings and iOS files; I woudln't live without it. The two make an unbeatable combination.

  • How do I add an electronic signature to a pages document

how do I add an electronic signature to a pages document?

Glad you stepped in and elucidated my inadequate explanation.
Step by Step explanations of the problem will get Step by Step instructions, but its been a week and the O.P. hasn't elaborated on what they actually want.
You may consider it a horrible answer, what was your opinion of the question?

PS I looked hard but couldn't find a reference to Preview in my post.

  • How can I batch convert Page Documents to the Doc format, and keep them in the same folder?

I have hundreds of Page documents in a folder structure for school that all need to be converted, but remain within the folder structure. Are there any scripts or methods to make this task easier before I go by this one-by-one?

If you seriously expect an answer you'll need to give more information than the rather vague "can't"s so far.
What version of Pages on what version of OSX?
What exactly are the messages you are getting?
    Which scripts have you tried?
Have you tried Automator and Smart Folders?

Export the Pages document as PDF best. Open the PDF in Preview (thumb nail mode). Select the thumbnail that you want Preview to convert to jpeg. Choose File > Export To… and control your jpeg quality and destination from the export dialog box.

  • HT3705 How do I save a Pages document to jpeg so that I can share on social media?

I have created a brochure and would like to post it on Facebook. How do I save a Pages document to jpeg so that I can share on social media and email? Do I have to save it as a jpeg or what other format can I save it in?

    Ashe,
In Pages, Print to "PDF > Open PDF in Preview". From Preview, File > Export to the format or your choosing, one page at a time. For text, PNG would be better than JPG.

  • How do I save a pages document as a pdf to iPhoto?

I recently purcahsed a new imac and have upgraded to Mountain Lion.  Under my old system: Leopard, in Pages 07, I was able to complete a document and then save it as a .pdf to iphoto.  When I upgraded to Lion, I lost this capability.  It was my understanding with the upgraded system (Mountian Lion and Pages 09) that I would once again have this feature but I don't see that option now.  Does anyone know how I can get a Pages document saved into iphoto?
    Thanks in advance:)

Pages does not export to .png. You can export as a PDF then open the PDF in Preview & export as .png. A better way would be to select the content you want & copy then switch to Preview & go File > New from Clipboard & save that as a .png. You'll get a better result with the second method.
