Preview of Photos

Hallo,
our cataloge photos are suddenly displayed and printed in this way (see screen shot).
We use Lightroom 3 and 5, opening them using picasa and other software doesen´t show those colours.
The catalog contains ca. 50000 Photos, many of them tagged - we do not want to import them in a new catalog.
Any help and advices would be appreciated.
Thank you
HerrTischbein

This is almost always a hardware problem ... Lightroom is reading the information on the disk, and the information sent by the disk is a corrupted file.
It could be anything from bad camera card, bad card reader, bad cable, bad USB port, bad hard disk or even bad memory.
You need to isolate the problem by changing one thing at a time until you have found the cause.
Note: if these photos showed properly at one time in the past, I would suspect the hard disk or memory. If they have never showed properly before, then you need to investigate the entire chain of hardware.

  • Why can't i preview a photo book in iphoto 9?

I am unable to preview a photo book I created in iphoto 9.  I am currently running snow leopard.  I didn't have a problem until I upgraded my OS from tiger to snow leopard and upgraded to Iphoto 9.  Iphoto always crashes on page two when assembling for either a preview or to buy a book.  Is there any way to stop this from happening?  I am beginning to think apple has gotten very sloppy on their "upgrades" as many people are running into various problems every single time the OS changes.

Other's have experienced the same problem and booting into  Safe Mode allowed them to preview the book and order a copy. Why, don't know but if it works for you send a report to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html describing the problem and the workaround.

  • Why is preview for photos running slow in Mavericks?

After upgrading to Mavericks Preview for photos very slow.
    What can I do?

Make sure there's enough free space on the disk..
Click your Apple menu  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.

  • If I open a photo in "preview", multiple photos open. I just want to open one, but can't figure out how to do it.

I keep multiple photos in a desktop folder to be quickly accessed by using Preview. But when I try to open ONE photo, it opens multiple photos. Can't figure out how to display just the single one that I select.  OS 10.7.2

This is the resume feature of Lion. The last state of the application is saved when quitting (i.e last pictures viewed in Preview, last videos viewed in Quicktime etc).
You can switch it off for Preview by copy and pasting the following in to the terminal application
defaults write com.apple.Preview NSQuitAlwaysKeepsWindows -bool false

  • Unable to preview raw photo on adobe bridge cs6 taken from Canon 6d

Hi!  Hope you all can help me with this problem.  Some raw photos taken by the same camera (canon 6d)  on the same memory card can be previewed on adobe bridge but other raw photos cannot.  The setting for all of the photos are the same.  The photos that I can't preview shows a gray screen with CR2 icon.  Jpeg images can be previewed.
    Your help is appreciated!

Did you use a card reader for the download?
Are all the 300 files relatively the same size?
Did you ues Tools/cache/purge and rebuild the folder cache?

  • Problems with Preview unflipping photos

    Hi everyone.
I asking this on behalf of my dad. He is using 10.4.4 and does not have internet connection, so has missed out on any updates since he bought his computer about 11 months ago.
The problems is: he scanned a photo and using Preview, flipped it horizontally so that the photo was the mirror image of the original. He saved it under a new name. When he tries to print this new mirror image photo, the preview comes up with the original unmirrored photo and prints like it was the original, even thought the file was saved under a new name. I have no problems doing it on my mac (10.3.9), but it won't do it on his. Is there a known bug or does anyone have any ideas why it is not working on his computer.
    Thanks

    Hi there,
I just tried this on 10.4.8 and found the same issue. It seems that while Preview does appear to change the view within Preview, other apps still see the original file. Yet, if you do a Get Info on the new file, it shows its preview the same as the Preview app shows it. All I can think is that the file is saved with a tag that references it back to the original and it is only Preview that reads this tag for viewing purposes only - not for printing. At this stage it does seem to be a limitation with Preview on 10.4.x because, as you have found and I confirmed, this isn't the case for 10.3.x. I might put my ADC membership to the test and see if I can report this. I will also test this on Leopard tomorrow to see if it does the same thing...

  • Text disappears when previewing/ordering photo books - help!

I've made a photo book in iPhoto but when I try to preview it or convert to a pdf it gives me an error message and then creates the book without any text. I'm afraid to order it in case the problem appears in the final edition - the text is very important. Any ideas how to solve the problem?
I've ordered several photo books in the past and never had this problem.

Sorry to string out this thread but I have the answer. Apple provided me this information and it works. hope it helps your problem, too:
    1) Open iPhoto.
    2) Select the book from the Source list on the left.
    3) Choose Print from the File menu.
    4) Click the Preview button on the bottom left. This will create a portable document format (PDF) file and display the file using the Preview application.
    5) Verify that the text is displayed.
    6) If the text is displayed correctly, and if you are satisfied with the book, close the PDF file, return to iPhoto, and click the Buy Book button. You may skip the rest of these steps.
    7) If the text is not displayed, close the PDF file and quit iPhoto.
    8) While in the Finder, choose Home from the Go menu. Open the Library folder, then open the Preferences folder. Locate the file called "com.apple.iphoto.plist" and drag it to the desktop. This will reset the iPhoto preferences to the default settings.
(Please note that if the Library is located on a separate partition or hard disk, you may need to point iPhoto to the Library location when you reopen iPhoto. You can do this by holding Option while opening iPhoto.)
    9) Reopen iPhoto and preview the book using steps 2 through 5 above. If you are satisfied with the book, close the PDF file, return to iPhoto, and click the Buy Book button. Then drag com.apple.iphoto.plist to the trash, as it may have been causing the issue.

  • CS5 crashes when previewing some photos

First time this has happened. I'm working with rather small client provided photos 477x640; jpeg, gif, etc. and suddenly when I dragged a jpeg over to the preview the entire system crashed right down to the blue system screen. I run CS5 on a HP Z800, 6 core, 12 gigs RAM, Win 7 64 bit and it's been generally stable thus far. Here's the kicker, if I drag the photo directly to the timeline, the system doesn't crash. Doesn't matter if I turn off the GPU Accelerator or not. The crash happens only loading the picture in the preview window. This doesn't happen on all photos just some. I even brought the photo into Photoshop with no problem, saved it as a PSD, but the crash still happens in Premiere Pro CS5. Anybody know why?
I think this is a CS5 only issue because on another computer (HPxw8400, 8 gigs RAM, Win 7 64 bit) running CS3 that same photo does not crash the system loading into the preview window.
At the moment, my work around is to not load the photos into the preview window.

Yeah Colin, looks like I could load the lastest Nvidia driver. I am using CS5 5.0.3.
What I just did was load each photo one at a time to see which photos trigger the crash. After loading 14 good photos (JPGs and GIFs) I came across two other photos, BMPs this time, that crashed the system. It too is a RGB 8 bit file. So no discerning trait among them. It seems most of the JPGs and GIF have no issue. All I can think of is that perhaps these few photos are somehow corrupt, but only the 64 bit Premiere Pro CS5 brings this to light. Can't say I've found a bug or not, or if it's just something wrong with these few files that CS5 doesn't like.
All these photos came to me online from the client's computer via YouSendIt.com. I believe suspect files came through in different batches with other good files, so can't really blame an upload issue.
I don't think there are any viruses involved. I've scanned everything with my AVG and no issue found. Not that all viruses come to light in every anti-virus program though.
For now, I think I'll just work in CS3 and try to trouble shoot further later.
If anyone would like this photo to test on their system, let me know.
    Thanks, guys.

  • Preview your photo book as pdf before clicking on 'Buy Book'.

Hi, here is the learning from the recent problem I had with photo books.
I would suggest that you save your book as a pdf file, before ordering. Preview your pdf file, and when you are satisfied, submit your order.
Saving a book as a PDF file:
    1. Select the book in the Source list.
    2. Choose File > Print.
    3. Click Save As PDF
In particular, you can see how the text which looks OK in the iPhoto program will be truncated in the printing. Suggest they need to put this as a required step in the ordering process - at the moment it is not explicitly mentioned.

I created a pdf of a book in the three user controlled ways: 1 - via the Print and then save as pdf file; 2 - Right click in the book mode, selecting Preview and then saving and; 3 - Right clicking in the book mode and using the Save as PDF option.
All three gave me the same page size, 11 x 8.5.
Unfortunately iPhoto assembles and creates the pdf file after you click on the Buy Now button preventing the user from obtaining the temporary pdf file that is created for uploading and printing like we could in iPHoto 5. I suppose one could open the temp folder User/private/var/tmp/folders.501/iPhoto before clicking on that button, copy the book while it's getting uploaded and then quickly cancel the process or, if too late, go to the Apple order check page and cancel (must be done within an hour or so).
My philosophy is if there's critical information that close to the edge of the photo then I didn't take the photo correctly. Then put a 1/4" black border around it in PSE or PS and use that.

  • Previewing Linked photos before publishing

I have hyperlinked my photos on my iWeb site that I am building... however, when I click on them to see the enlarged photo, I do not get any results. Please advise on the correct way to do this. Also, how do I preview my page, before publishing it?

You could use one of the flash slideshows produced by FAExport from iPhoto.
I have an example of Banana Album here....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Tricks/FlashSlideshow.html
This is done using the stand alone version.
Another alternative is the one at the bottom of this page which is mouse over to enlarge......
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Tricks/MouseOver.html
Run your mouse over the thumbnail of the audio mixer. You can put several on a page but you have to space them out and resize the enlarged images to fit. I have done one with two columns and several rows but the site is not published yet. You can have a caption below the thumb as long as its sent to the back.
You can email me if you need more information about it
Maybe Old Toad will suggest other ways.

  • Preview opens photos in several windows

    Hello,
When I select multiple photos in the Finder and I open them in Preview, the app almost always opens 2 windows : one that displays 1 or 2 photos and another one with all other photos.
Despite I choosed to display all files in ONE window in Preferences.
Here is a video of this problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YltBsB8riro
Could you tell me how to fix that, please?
    Thanks!
    Xavier

    thank you very much, Charlie
I figured it had to be something simple like a preference that I was missing.  But I was rooting around in the Preview app preferences...
I sincerely appreciate the quick reply.

  • Trouble with thumbnail, previews of photos

I'm using Photoshop Elements 12. When I save a photo to a folder in my hard drive I see a thumbnail of the photo in the folder. When I copy it to another folder or to a flash drive, I see a blank thumb nail, no preview of my photo, just a rectangle that says jpeg, with the name of the photo below it. How do I fix this?

  • When I click on preview all photo's open

Can someone please help me.  When I click on preview, all the picture open up on my computer and not just the one that I want.  It takes me ages to close everyone again.
    THANKS

I'm still new with the Apple product, can you please explain to me where to change this in System Preferences.  Like I said, when I open a photo all the photos on my computer open and then I need to close everyone one by one.  The other thing that is so frustrating is when I scan something on my computer, the scanned document open in preview and again all the pictures on the computer open.  Your help will be appreciated. Thanks

  • In Hotmail - I cannot preview any photo attachments or open them easily, as I had been able to in the past - what happened ?

This is in my "hotmail" accounts.
I was always able to see the photos across the body of the e-mail in small thumbnails (?) and you could click to open in a small preview screen or just hit the download toggle on each photo to download to a file.
This function has disappeared. The thumbnails do not appear at all - just the words "click here if takes too long".
I find this frustrating and annoying. Thanks for your help.

    Hi mafiose15,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Restoring your iPod to factory settings is the best way to try and get it back to working order. You can use the instructions below to restore it:
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
You can find the instructions in this article:

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
