Preview on iMac 5K

I have a fully loaded iMac with 5K display.  When using Preview to look at PDFs of spec sheets, drawings, etc. it is unbelievably slow.  I get the pinwheel for 20-30 seconds at a time when zooming or panning.  The same files have no issues on a MacBook Pro Retina.  All other apps run fine, including photo editing, iMovie, etc.  But using Preview to look at larger PDFS (1MB - 20MB) is very very slow, almost unusable.

  • How can I remove a signature on a PDF file that I created using Preview on iMac computer??

How can I remove a signature on a PDF file that I created using Preview on iMac computer??  I inadvertently hit the icon on the Preview tool bar with an xS and a line through it.  There is my signature in the middle of the PDF file I was editing.  How do I get rid of it?  Cannot select it.  Cannot find any tools that allow me to delete it.  The Preview documentation tells how to create and apply a signature, but not how to remove it.  I think when a signature is added the doucment becomes locked from any editing.

    Hey needadobehelp10,
Using Adobe Acrobat/Reader, you can simply change your PDF view settings under "View > Page Display > Single Page View"
Is this really you wish for?
    Please let me know.

  • Install Windows 8 Release Preview on imac

any body install Windows 8 Release Preview on imac?

Q: Do you have the CP installed now?
If yes, then the Setup program will walk you through and download, move Windows to Windows.old (so you need about 40GB free space at least to accomplish, an 80GB partition) and no need to burn ISO (handy to have).
When all is said and done, be sure to clean up disk and remove windows.old and install.esd package and installer package which take up 20GB + 6GB + 2GB.
Not on iMac. I'd say it went smoothly though.

  • Using smart previews on iMac to control two sets of identical original files on two external drives --- render previews setting when using smart previews

I’m just getting started with Lightroom and if someone can help me I’ll be very appreciative.
I’m using an iMac with a 1TB drive and two external 2.5 TB drives for backup.  My active files are on all three drives and I’m running out of room on the iMac drive.
With the smart previews capability of Lightroom 5, I’m hoping to remove all the active files from the iMac drive.  I hope to import existing images into the LR catalog from two identical drives with identical folders and have both sets of images reflect the changes I make using smart previews on my iMac.
I just created two identical test folders of junk images on the external drives and was following a beginners tutorial on importing. However, I see nothing about using smart previews on my iMac that, when connected, will update more than one external drive at the same time.
I’m also wondering if, when using smart previews, it matters how I set the render previews during the import process.
    Many thanks for any help,
    Karl Hentz

I don't see any way to use smart previews to update both external drives at the same time. The smart previews are linked to a specific set of images. But it seems to me that if both drives are in fact identical, once the catalog is updated when one of those drives is connected those changes should also apply to the files on the other drive. It's actually the catalog that gets updated, not the images.  Smart previews and regular import previews are completely unrelated. How you have your import previews configured will have no effect on your smart previews.
Incidentally, in order for my suggestion to work it would be necessary to only have one of those external drives connected. And when the other EHD is connected it would have to have the same drive letter or name. In other words it would have to appear to the iMac that it is precisely the same drive.

  • White screen bug on preview app (iMac 5k)

i have a problem with the preview app on a iMac 5K. When I try to open a picture taken with my Nikon D800 (36 Mpixels) for an half a second I can see the picture and after that time the window became white. The problem is solved if I try to open another picture: with two pictures on the same windows, everything works fine.
Anyone has experienced the same problem or have any suggestion for fix it?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Preview crashing iMac

My iMac Retina 5k is only a week old, and I'm kind of concerned as to the seeming instability of Yosemite. When I try to open image files of a certain size up in Preview it causes the iMac to crash and restart. I can open the image up fine in Photoshop and Chrome/Safari.
Is this a known issue? Is there a fix or is this something that's going to be patched?
    Many thanks in advance

  • Preview Printing

I'm posting this question here after trying it at the Printing And Faxing forum. I have a book of my own compositions that i scanned to a disc. The book has a table of contents, and other introductory material that is numbered with roman numerals. The rest of the book is numbered normally, starting with the first composition on page one. The problems start when i try to print out one of the tunes. I click the print icon, enter the the page i want to print (i.e. from 23 to 23) and hit print. What happens is, Preview prints the 23rd page of the entire book, including the introductory pages, not page 23 starting from page 1. Other than adding up the roman numeral pages and tacking that on to 23 and printing that number, is there a way around this? It's extremely annoying, and it's kind of ruining Preview for me, even though i like it much better than Adobe Acrobat (where i don't have this problem) I'd like to dump Adobe and just use Preview, but i can't until this problem is solved. Thanks.

I have Word, and have been trying to open the PDF's in it, but I haven't been able to get it to work. I open Word, then file/open, then I navigate to the files on the disc, but all the different PDF's are greyed out. I just don't understand how PDF's can be opened in a text program. With that said, it's not really that big of a deal. Acrobat works o.k., I just like Preview better, it runs more smoothly and the images look better, I just hate the printing thing that started this whole thread. And thanks for the music scanning apps, but scanning my hand-written scores into the computer hasn't been the problem, just the printing in Preview.

  • ***** Sell MBP get 2.4 iMac? **** lose EXPRESS slot?

I have a Mackie 400F, which sounds decent enough. I would lose portability, the GPU is weaker, but according to mac feats, not real time FX (FCP) but RAM PREVIEW, the iMAC is faster.
Mine is a 2.2 LED and have someone that will give me $1800 for it (less than one month old) and I was hesitant at first as I tested that motorcycle several times before I said YES to MBP, as the iMac stuttered at every FX REAL TIME transistion wheras the MBP did not, or should I keep the MBP, get a 7200 HD, lacie d2 RAID, eSATA express RAID card and wait for new OS and new MAC PRO's?
    Arggggggggggg. Help!
Audio first, like the portability for music and writing.
    Video second.

So, I got an offer today for, get this, an iMac, new, 24" 2.4.
Anyway, I work mostly in audio, and would be getting a 7200 HD, and FW 800 and would lose the Express raid. set up.
So what is everyone's opinion on a MBP vs 24" 2.4 iMac for audio work?
Which would give me the best bang for the buck and use oor have better FPU utlizing? I'm thinking the FPU would be a tad bit stonger on the iMac due to the extra .2 which in today's terms is about an extra 300~400 mhz speed with regard to plug ins, or should I just stick with what I have, use my audio interface, get a 7200 HS, and then down the road get a EXPRESS card and RAID the VLS and EWQLSO (when it comes out in UB) and use PT LE and Logic? (which I can do on both - plus of course get a external monitor for MBP - either 1900x1200 or 1900x1440.
    Thoughts?
Either way, they both kicj but t, and I should have no problems, know someone that works FOLEY full time from home (when he's not playing golf) and is using a G4 and 001 box with Digitranslator - -and spoke with another who over the weekend, recorded a full band with older g4 laptio, no problems.....
And I do love th KEYBOARD (MBP) but love the space of iMac 24! Nice.
For video, MBP is better, add a few FX on new iMAC and it will stutter, not so on MBP.....but again, I do mostly audio, drumcore, Reason, etc.
Any one here have a guide on swapping the CPU or is it soidered on?
    Peace and thanks!

  • Lost the Preview Window in Mail

    Title says it all really.
The Preview window in Mail seemes to have vanished, (the bit under the mails...)
I've gone through the menus etc as thoruoghly as I can, but I can't find the option to switch it back on.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Cheers

There will be a small dot at the bottom center of the mail list window (which is the minimized preview window). Either double click on that dot or drag that up to resize your preview window.

  • Lightroom 5.5 Import from Catalog *very* slow performance.

Importing from a second catalog from a shoot is *very* slow with the last version or couple of versions of Lightroom.  It's been about 20 minutes and the import is moving glacially slow and is only about 20% done.
Here are as many stats as I have:
iMac 27" 3.5Ghz Core i7, 32G of ram, 3T fusion drive (the late 2013 model maxed out)
Master catalog has 117,000 images in it.
The catalog I'm importing has 948 images in it.
CPU use during the import is 100% used by lightroom (note that the multiple CPUs can go to more than 100% so this means I think that one CPU is maxed out, though LR can sometimes take 500% of my CPUs during an export)
Lightroom is using 4.2G of RAM (10G free in activity monitor)
Hard drive is fairly full, but still has 366G free on it (so about 10%)
Lightroom Mobile sync is enabled (not on this folder I don't think) but says "service unavailable" at this point.
Lightroom is fully up to date (5.5) on both iMac and laptop (also a mac in case that matters).  Both are up to date with the latest OS software.
    How I did it was:
Export the shoot as a new catalog on my iMac
Transfer it to my laptop (smart previews only, no masters)
    Edit images, metadata, etc
Transfer the entire folder back (.lrcat, previews, smart previews) to iMac
In my master catalog do an import from catalog
Waited for ages for checking for dupes (which I can understand with such a big catalog)
Selected to import all, changing metadata and develop edits, and selecting to put new images in the folder (not sure why it asked as there weren't any new images)
The last time I did an import I started it and then went out somewhere so I didn't notice how long it took, but this seems completely crazy.  In the time it's taken to write this up it's now about 20 minutes later and the progress bar is maybe at the 33% range.  It's still working away, it's just crazy crazy slow.
Anything to help out or debug would be greatly appreciated.  I suspect it's pure size of the catalog, but 120k isn't outside the realm of what I've heard people say works fine, or maybe the Fusion drive (maybe the OS is trying to move files around behind the scenes)?
Either way this didn't seem to be an issue until the last couple of versions (I haven't gone and re-installed 5.4 or 5.3 to check) and it's starting to really frustrate me

    Hi Jim,
Great suggestion! It opens perfectly fine on its own. I even went as far as re-exporting it once it loaded but am still experiencing the same issue. That same catalog loads perfectly fine on my assistant's iMac.
I can't really think about anything that changed in my environment with the exception of a new Bootcamp partition to run windows on an external Thunderbolt HD but I doubt this is related.
I'm open to any suggestions while I am trying this again... 10 minutes of 'Checking for changed and duplicate photos'.

  • Using Basic Template, Title in Huge Letters

I'm using the Basic template. The cover's fine. But once I put in a page, in this case a main title (same thing with a half-title), when I open it in the iBooks app on my iMac, I see the cover. Next it moves to thumbnails across the bottom and rather than that first page, the main title, I see the book's title in very large type, breaking a word without using hyphens, and in a typeface that's not of my chosing.
If I open the unmodified Basic template with the Books app there's nothing but what's in the template--no title in big type. What's a guy got to do to get the lagrge type title out of there?

Reader app??  do you mean Preview in iBooks on iPad or Mac?.    if so you should be able to select the TOC or on the Mac open "thumbnails".
Delete all versions on iPad and Mac iBooks app and you should do this every time you finish any preview..on either device.  Next preview is "new", also. preview on iMac is more reliable than iPad.
Basically, you need to visit every page you created and select the titles and check the size, font etc.
How far advanced into creating your book are you....if its few pages... it may be easier to start a new template.

  • Determine dpi of documents

I exported a Pages document as a PDF, but as far as I can tell, the
"Best" image quality choice only gives me a PDF at 72 dpi. I tried to change the dpi of my document using the instructions in this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2800679&#2800679
I can tell using the "get info" command that the new PDF file is about 1 MB larger than the original, but I would like to see if I successfully changed it from 72 dpi to 300 dpi.
Is there any way to check the dpi on a document in Pages or a PDF in Preview?
    iMac G3 (Panther), iBook G4, iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Pages 2.0.2

If you have Adobe Acrobat and Pitstop you can determine individual resolution in graphics. Rendering graphics that are 72 DPI and upsampling (if such a word exists) is a waste of time. You can downsample, but once you remove the data it's gone. You cannot simply type 300 DPI and get instant details. The article you refer to is not for recreating PDF's from existing pdf's, but rather creating PDF's from the native application. I suggest you recreate your PDF's using a higher resolution. If you only have a 72 DPI version, ask the supplier to send you a better one. The article is good, but it's much simpler and more effective to purchase Adobe Acrobat and use Distiller to create PDF's rather than let the OS do it.

Suddenly my iMac G5 has stopped printing to my Kyocera-Mita FS1010 laser printer. The printer has done over 6,000 pages in this set-up.

I ran disk utility to fix permissions, but the printing didn't work
I booted from the install disk and repaired the disks (no problems found)
I am now able to print using Adobe Reader, but not Microsoft Word or TextEdit (the only two I have tested)
Printing to my inkjet printer works fine for all applications.
I desperately need help as I have heaps of stuff to print for a meeting this Friday.
    Thanks
    Ian

I have completed all you suggested, including re-installing drivers. The result is the same.
The printer is physically attached to my Airport Extreme as a USB Printer.
I can print successfully to the printer from the iMac G5 when using Adobe Reader.
I cannot print using Word, Excel, TextEdit, Safari, Mail or Preview using iMac G5. Others not tested.
I can print from my MacBook to the printer for every application thus tested.
Thus there is nothing wrong with the Printer, nothing wrong with the Airport Extreme.
The problem lies within the iMac G5 and the software/server used by the G5 to print. Presumerably the Adobe Reader prints using its own software/server.
    What else can I do?

Spotlight lists items and shows preview images.  BUT what about showing the path/location address of an item in my computer.
Especially important if I've put the item in the wrong folder and what to locate it without multi-steps. iMac OS X 10.5 was more useful.
Old OSX Spotlight function automatically displayed path/location within the machine:  e.g. desktop/folder/sub-folder/item.
Can I make Spotlight show the path?

Press option-command and the path is displayed at the bottom of the little preview window.  Press command-return and the enclosing folder opens.

  • I have a mac air and an iMac and both have Pages. I use Pages on my air and save all documents to iCloud. I can see them on my iMac but it won't open with Pages. It becomes visible if I change it to open with preview but I can't interact with it.

I have an mac air and an iMac 5k - pages runs on both.  I use pages on my air and save all my documents to iCloud drive. I can see the documents on my iMac but some won't open in pages which is bizarre? They will open if I change it to open with preview but then all I can do is read it  - I can't add to the document - All I want is to be able to see all my documents on all my devices and to be able to have them sync so I can add to the documents from  any of my devices. I also have an iPhone 6 and an iPadair2 but I would be happy just to have the iMac and macair sync for starters. I have folders within folders in my documents,. The folders which contain pdf's and individual files open OK . The one I am having difficulty with is the file which I use for ongoing correspondence - in other words it is quite long - I keep adding to it  ( by copying letters in and letters out so I can see a sequential history of what has been going on by scrolling down ) in date order so that it could be 1 - 100 pages long - but I don't think the size is a problem. I don't understand why some folders can open and others not . Has anyone any suggestions please. I have been trying to get this to work for months since iCloud drive came in. It has got much better but it is still not good enough  - or maybe it's me?

All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.
