Preview on iPad through Folio Overlays window of smooth scrolling article (ex. 1024 x 2000 px) is not working anymore. Article is scaled and turned in vertical orientation. No problem with Folio Builder.

Preview on device from folio overlays panel is fuzzy

I'm new to DPS so I'm sure there's a setting somewhere that I haven't checked, but why is the text fuzzy on my iPad when I preview my article? I have a retina iPad, my document is 1024x768, and I'm using the "Preview on XYZ iPad" function at the bottom of the Folio Overlay panel. What am I doing wrong? It looks fine if I preview the folio in the Folio Builder panel--what's the difference?

When you click Preview at the bottom of the Overlays panel, you preview the layout, not the article or the folio. When you preview the layout, you get PNG or JPG image format, not PDF. For the best preview experience, use the Folio Builder panel to preview either the article or folio. That way, you use the image format of the articles. If your article uses PDF image format, it likely won't be fuzzy. And if you see something fuzzy when previewing, let us know, and we'll help you figure it out.

How do I create an interactive PDF file in InDesign CS6 with Folio Overlays?

I have been trying to export an interactive PDF file using InDesign CS6. It exports fine, and all the content works except for the Folio Overlays I created. I created two Folio Overlays (one Pan & Zoom and one Scrollable Frame). The overlays work if I preview them from the Folio Overlays panel, but they do not work on the PDF document.
I am using File >> Export... to create the PDF document, and I am sure the PDF document is of the interactive type and not the print type. Am I exporting it incorrectly? Is there a specific step that I have missed somewhere? Do I need to create a Folio Build to make the Folio Overlays work?
When I mouse over the Folio Overlays, I get the crosshair cursor which only selects part of the image when I click and drag it.

PDF is one thing. Folios for DPS is another. There is a little bit of
overlap but not much.
The interactivity in the folio overlays panel is for DPS only.

Smooth Scrolling : folio size VS article size

I'd like to create a smooth scrolling article just like in DPS TIPS "Effects" by Bob Bringhurst.
I follow the steps from the article but it does not work.
What I want to to is to have a 1024*768 (horizontal only) folio that includes articles that may be longer than 768 height (let's say 1024*2000).
If I create a 1024*768 FOLIO and import articles that are 1024*2000
i cannot upload because it says :
Error generating content.
[Error: The proportions of the page size must match the folio.]
If I create a 1024*2000 (example) FOLIO and then import articles that are exactly 1024*2000
- it works (well I can upload) but i can only import articles that have the exact dimensions of the folio, the DPS TIPS says "you can mix and match Smooth Scrolling and non sooth scrolling articles in a folio".
And then the problem is I never ever see the folio on my Content Viewer on the iPad then.
I can only see it it the Folio Producer.
There's a point that says "You cannot create horizontal smooth scrolling article, the workaround is to create scrollable frames, which can now include interactive overlays"
What bugs me is that in the example we can see an Horizontal Smooth Scrolling (1024*2000 just like in my examples and tests)
If the only workaround is to cretae scrollables frames, I'll do so but maybe I just missed something ?

IPad Folio Overlay Preview Only Displays One Orientation at a Time

I have a simple two page InDesign doc created from the ground up for DPS. It has some text, image, slider overlay, and video embedded, and has a file_v vertical (portrait) layout and file_h horizontal (landscape) layout.
My problem is when I preview it on a connected iPad, only one orientation is previewed at a time. I double checked my iPad, its orientation is not "locked". I also tried on another iPad and had the same results. For example, only the portrait version is previewed on the iPad no matter how I try and change the iPad orientation. In order to preview the landscape version, I need to go back to my doc, scroll down to the page where the file_h version starts, and hit folio preview from there.
If I preview on desktop, the Adobe Viewer correctly shows both layout orientations and I can switch between them.
I only had this problem after recently renaming the doc. I tested an older version of the doc, and had this same problem.
My question is: might there be a setting or preference somewhere to lock an iPad preview to only one orientatation? I'd really like to get the function back to preview both orientations at the same time to see how they compare.

I was indeed using the folio overlay vs the folio builder.
From the folio builder panel, I setup a quick test folio and added my current doc, then from the top level folio builder panel, hit the twirly-down for preview on iPad.

No Preview in Folio Overlays panel

When I click Preview in the Folio Overlays panel, nothing happens. The screen tip says the Adobe Viewer application must be open in the foreground, but I can only find the viewer for the iPad, not for the iMac.
I have the box version of InDesign CS6 installed; I also have the Creative Cloud, and am on Mac OSX 10.8.3. (I didn’t uninstall the box version and reinstall the cloud version.)
How can I get the Viewer to work in my iMac? I don’t see it in my Applications folder; I don’t see it as a separate download at Creative Cloud, and I don’t see it as an app except for the iPad.

Missing web content options and Preview in Folio Overlay panel

Hello,
After placing a .oam file into a folio and while it is selected, when I click on the Folio Overlays panel, the web content listing options do not show up at all. Nor is the Preview option available. I saw and used them before when I was working through the tutorial. I sure hope it is something simple I overlooked!

That looks strange. With the .oam container frame selected you should see the web content overlay
Try:
Close and re-open the overlay panel
Quit InDesign and relaunch to try again

Preview on iPad with Windows 7?

Hello,
I am new to making apps for the iPad and use a Windows 7 pc for most of my actual design work. I wanted to know if it is possible to preview my folio in Adobe Content Viewer on my iPad without a Apple computer?
As of right now, my folio is completed and I am signed in, but the Adobe Content Viewer on my iPad will not locate my folio. I am guessing this is because I am using Windows 7, but would like to be sure.

Thank you for the response, but this is the problem I am having. I have mu folio built in the Folio Builder Panel, but it will not show up on the Content Viewer on the iPad? Why would this be? Go to Settings>General>Date & Time and change the date to a few months in the future and then re-try.

Local preview works fine - broken/erratic on iPad(through cloud to device)

I have a Folio which was working just fine in Local mode. Having moved it to the cloud and downloaded it to iPad, functions are either broken or irratic.
This was orginally built over the last few days and was updated in the last 24 hours - then the woes started.
I've noted various comments about recent Folio Builder troubles and have v7.0.5.17 on CS5 with whatever the latest Adobe Content viewer is (installed yesterday). Mac is 10.7.2.
I deleted the Folio from the cloud this morning and largely remade the articles' enhancements from scratch, re-uploaded and then to back to iPad - yet no joy.
I know there's not much to go on here, but if you feel you can assist, then ask the questions and I'll answer then as best I can.

I tried an new user and this time it said that I didn't have a compatible version of Producer Tools! Most odd... given that there's no complaint with the original user... Howver, the little link to go get them refused to work.
So I followed the instructions for removal of these tools and tried again - no joy at all!
Un-installed CS completely and removed any vestiages of Adobe files, folders, prefs (but not user prefs) etc
Rebooted and re-installed and patched CS5.
Added Folio Producer 1.7.0 and then Folio Panel 1.1.7.2.
Deleted Folio from Cloud an re-added - I know it's wrong because it should be at least 140MB and it's only 11Mb when on iPad - and buttons/overlays etc as they were before all this started.
So; after all that no joy with either original or new user.
Can someone kindly confirm the versions I should have for CS5 please - that would be a start.

DPS video folio overlays not working as prompted

Hi All,
Some of the video folio overlays I have selected are not working within my folio, even though they are selected.
The video is not stopping on last frame and is allowing the pause function even though I have checked the box to disabled it.
It seems to work on preview through the folio overlay viewer drop down on iPad, but not when I view the folio as a whole.
I have tested on two iPads (mini and standard), have changed the folio viewer version to several different options (V20 and above), made sure I have updated everything but is still not making a difference.
I have never had this issue before...
Urgently needing any ideas, if you have them?

Recreated my folio again, starting from viewer 27 and seems to of worked.
Annoying you can't seem to change the viewer (and it work) to an existing folio...

Fixed Layout ePub - please help me embed video and/or use Folio overlay with web content

I have an In Design file used to create a print book (11"x11") and have decided to use CC 2014 to create a fixed-layout ePub 3 for a digital version. I converted the book over with minor issues of having to change the font and it looks beautiful.
I would like to add videos at the end of the book to take advantage of the flexibility of the digital format. I create a year-end slideshow of my photos and host them on Vimeo.
I have tried the following:
Using the Vimeo standard embed code in an HTML element
Using the old flash Vimeo embed code and converting to HTML - worked great on iBooks on Mac but not on iPhone/iPad as flash-based
Hosting and linking to videos on my own web server and using the Media - insert video link to the mp4 file
Hosting and linking to videos on my old photo server at smugmug.com
I can embed the actual videos but, at their smallest size they increase the file size of the ePub from 78MB to 400MB...
I then thought I would use a Folio Overlay - Web Content.
The idea is to use this blank page on my website which would look for all intents and purposes like another white page in the book - 2012 Slideshow - Oren Photography
The overlay works in Folio Preview but not when exported as an ePub
Is this a limitation of the ePub format?
Any help/advice/suggestions on fixing this are greatly appreciated.

My interest in embedding videos was largely to minimize the final file size and amount of space used on each person's device. I ended up following your advice about using Adobe Media Encoder to minimize the size of each slideshow but it still increased the final ePub from 65 MB to over 200 MB. And that was with video quality that was far inferior from what I could offer through an embed or, my final solution, a link out to my website.
I happen to be of the same thought as Bill that most people are now connected to the internet and would favor a smaller file with access to online content over a very large file. I would have liked to embed the videos and allow 720p quality inside the ePub over the link I ended up settling for.

No, that doesn't work for me. And things seem to be inconsistent. Where it lets you vary the file size (small/medium/large/actual) when large and actual are the same, it doesn't send the actual jpeg file for windows to open. When large and actual size files are different when you toggle between the two, the file seems to go through to my windows pc ok. When I tried this through preview, that's when I noticed this difference, not through just email or Aperture yet. Help!

Folio Overlay is Missing! InDesign CC won't update..?

I am working in InDesign CC and want to create scrolling text in my pdf - for publishing on the iPad.
I have looked at various tutorials and they all call out "Folio Overlay" which seems to be missing from my Windows tab.
I was prompted to update, which I did - yet my problems still persisted. I was told by InDesign that I needed to update again, yet now when I go to update nothing happens.
I am not sure what the problem is... why can't I update? & where did my folio overlay button go?

Same thing happening to me. JUST downloaded new InDesign CC. Folio Overlay missing. In Fact, I cannot even sign into Folio Builder because it says it needs says "A software update is required to use Digital Publishing Suite. Please go to the Help menu and select Updates to get the required software." However, InDesign is completely up to day (I just downloaded it), the CC installer says it is up to date, AND there is NO "Updates" in the Help menu. I am not sure what 'Update" the Folio needs.
