Preview opens 120 images at start

How to prevent Preview from opening 120 files each time I start it?
I have created a New File from Clipboard with 120 images, created the PDF, but now it keeps up opening the pdf and all images as separate PDF's. \
I tried "don't save" and "save" for all files. I tried to disable reopening windows in System Preferences, I tried Force Quit, I tried Quit. I tried closing everything (had to choose save or dont save) and open 1 other file, but each time all 120 are openen again, even if I preview an completely different file.
Regards, Linda

In Lion, apps remember what you had open when you quit them and reopen those items when you start them up again.  You can, in theory, turn this off in System Preferences -> General by unchecking "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps."  In practice, I find this doesn't turn off the behavior in all apps for me.  So, the other solution is to simply make sure you close all your windows before quitting Preview.

  • Why won't the new preview open single images?

I have been using preview to investigate screen shots I've been taking. The problem is preview is opening every single file I've viewed with it when I open it. I take a lot of screenshots.
How do I get image preview to open JUST the image I told it to open? How do I make it stop opening multiple images at once when I don't ask it to?

Have you been quitting (CMD + Q) the application when you're done looking at the images without closing each window?  I noticed this same behaviour and made it go away by closing windows prior to quitting Preview. Same goes for other applications such as Quicktime or Safari.
If you want to prevent this from happening in every app you can change it in the General Preferences in your System Preferences.

  • Preview opening multiple images

Hi all, when i open Preview, hundreds of images open followed by the .app itself with hundreds more images. I have tried unticking the usual check box in System preferences, General and have pasted 'defaults write com.apple.Preview NSQuitAlwaysKeepsWindows -bool false' into terminal but nothing works. I have also removed all the preference files and reinstalled Lion over the top and it changes nothing. HELP!!!!

Are the image files ones you recently opened? Where are they being stored? If you right-click the title bar does it show where the picture is from? Is it being opened from a cache somewhere?
Only other idea is that you disabled "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps." While Preview was still open. Try quitting Preview then re-enabling that and disabling it again, while Preview is closed.
One more thought. How long has it been since you rebooted? Maybe the pictures are in a temporary folder and will be deleted when you reboot.

  • How can I make Preview open to actual size for all images?

In Snow Leopard, Preview open all images actual size. In Mountain Lion, vertical images (and all images larger than the screen) fit to the screen and I have to use the keyboard command to see actual size. What happened, and is there any way to fix this?

Open a PDF in Preview. Now, right-click on the toolbar and select Customize Toolbar ...
Drag the circled items from the customize panel to your toolbar and release there.
Click the middle button in the Zoom panel. The Scale will report 100%.
Your future Preview documents will open at 100% now.

  • Preview opens up blurry..

I noticed this a few months back but since it's not a "crucial" issue I didn't bother posting but I'm just wondering if anyone knows or if anyone else is experiencing Preview opening up images blurry at first & then you have to manually resize the image in order for it to become sharp again.

Does this happen with all images?
I have noticed that Preview opens images blurry on my computer but they go sharp in a couple of seconds after opening. Have you tried deleting the com.apple.preview.plist file in /Users/<<UserName>>/Library/Preferences?
If you don't feel comfortable deleting the file just move it to the desktop. Then log out and back in and see if you are still getting the same effect.
    Hope this helps

  • Preview 4.1 - "open all images in one window"

    Dear users,
Despite checking this button in Preferences, Preview often (not always) will open my images in different windows, as opposed to in one window with a thumbnail pane. This is especially true across file formats. Am I doing something wrong? THANKS!!

First, put enough images into /Users/Shared to test. Then, create a new account, name it "test" and see how your Preview app works in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.) This account is just for test, do nothing further with it.
Open System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" make it an admin account.
If the problem is present in the test account also, then it is systemwide. In this case try repairing this with the 10.5.4 Combo Update . This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
If the problem does not appear in the test account try starting in "Safe Mode" (It will take a bit more time to startup because it runs a directory check first).
If that works go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items and remove them. Boot normally and test. If there are still problems, go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving /Users/Home)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
    Let us know.

  • Preview can't open any images

    Hi all,
Suddenly Preview doesn't work with any images on my computer (stil works fine with PDF). The Preview window is always like this when I try to open any images:
I had tried to remove all the preference files related to Preview under ~/Library/Preferences/, also used Disk Uitility to repair disk permissions but no luck.
    Can somebody help me? Thanks

Have you tried starting in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs?
    Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)
If this works look in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and disable any third party login items. Also look in /Library/Startup Items. Nothing is put in that folder by default, so anything in there is yours.

  • Starting an action by opening an image in Camera RAW

I am currently using Adobe CS3 Design Premium with Windows XP Pro as the operating system. The computer is a self build and has 2GB of RAM, 450GB of onboard HD storage and 6x500GB of external HD storage.
As a photographer I frequently end up with anything between a 100 and 300 RAW images after a days work and convert them to DNG, Tif and JPEG files.
With CS2 I ran an action which opened the image in Camera RAW which then enabled me to make adjustments before opening the image in Photoshop and completing the other elements of the action. Since upgrading to CS3 I have been unable to create a similar action and having read the "knowledge based" information and looked through the topics in the forum have failed to find anything that is of help. As each image and the conditions under which it has been taken differ it is quite important to make corrections in Camera RAW before completing the action in Photoshop and fixed settings applied by Camera RAW would be inappropriate.
It is always possible that I am making a fundamental error in writing the action but given my previous experience it seems unlikely. Incidentally I usually bring up the images in Bridge and then select the best images to process and start the action from Bridge.
I should be very grateful for any help in resolving this problem

    >It is always possible that I am making a fundamental error in writing the action but given my previous experience it seems unlikely. Incidentally I usually bring up the images in Bridge and then select the best images to process and start the action from Bridge.
there's your problem...when you start the action recording from Photoshop you'll need to actually open a raw image FROM Photoshop not from Bridge. Don't know if this changed from CS2>CS3, but that's the only sure way of recording an open function...from within Photoshop. Then in the Batch you'll still need to override open so the open will open the image with the parameters already set in the image.

  • Preview can't open all images in multiple selections...is this a bug?

Note: "Open all files in one window" is selected in Preview preferences.
This used to work fine in Leopard. Not complaining, might be a bug, but just want to verify. When I select multiple jpg images and double click, preview tends to open random number of images each time. all of them simply don't open up. Any idea what could be wrong?

Are any of the jpegs downloaded from the Internet? If so, that is the problem. You'll get two Preview windows, one with, say 3 images, the second window with one. Do it again and you get one window with 4 images and the second window with a different additional one. Repeat. It's due to the Apple quarantine bit being set on downloaded files. Until it is removed by individually opening a jpeg you can't batch open all them. See here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2137399
You can open a batch provided you use the Preview Open dialog box, rather than selecting in the Finder.

  • When I have resized and saved an image in Photoshop (CS, version 8.0 for Mac) using image size, why is it so large when I open it in preview or another image viewer? Has it actually saved according to the size I specified?

When I have resized and saved an image in Photoshop (CS, version 8.0 for Mac) using image size, why is it so large when I open it in preview or another image viewer? Has it actually saved according to the size I specified?

You want to view the image at the Print Size, which represents the size that shows in the Image>Resize Dialog.
    View>Print Size
Since screen resolution is almost always lower that the print resolution (somewhere between 72 and 96 usually), images will always look bigger on the screen, unless you view them at print size.
(apple Retina displays have a much higher resolution than normal screens, closer to the average print size resolution)

Firefox upon opening an image in a new tab, centers the image from top and bottom and surrounds the image with a grey frame. Just started having the problem today, searched Google to no avail.

Oh wow, looks like a new feature.
The "page" links in a stylesheet with the address "resource://gre/res/TopLevelImageDocument.css". If you remove that reference, then the image displays in the old style.
'''''Edit: Please skip the rest of this post and check out the next one.'''''
There might be a more elegant solution than that, but you could use a bookmarklet to strip out that link when you want to view the page in its old style. A bookmarklet is a snippet of JavaScript you save on the Bookmarks toolbar for quick access.
First, copy the following code to the clipboard (it's all one long line):
    <br>javascript:var ssheet=document.querySelector('link[href="resource://gre/res/TopLevelImageDocument.css"]'); if(ssheet)ssheet.parentNode.removeChild(ssheet); void 0;
Next, if you are not displaying the Bookmarks Toolbar, use View > Toolbars > Bookmarks Toolbar to display it. (If you aren't using the classic Menu bar, press Alt+v to call up the old View menu. Right-clicking the gray area just below the page address also allows you to display the Bookmarks Toolbar.)
Right-click on the Bookmarks Toolbar (or Mac equivalent of right-click!) and choose New Bookmark.
Paste the code into the Location box (the second box).
Then type a useful name in the Name box (e.g., Oldstyle Picture) and click Add.
Now, when you want to tweak the image display, click the button to run the script.
Manual clicking is a hassle, so it might make sense to look into other solutions. (Greasemonkey didn't seem to work; I think it might not run on .jpg files.)

  • Preview won't open multiple images

When I open one image in preview, it opens fine. If I open a second image, the first image disappears. If I try and open multiple images at once, the drawer slides out, but it's empty, and again, only one image will show up. Any ideas?

Hello, if you cannot figure out how to fix the issue I have a nice PDF combiner and exporter, you can write in any application, Text Edit, Pages, Word, and export to PDF, combine with this tool.

Download the new version if you like it.

  • Preview won't open JPG image on a USB stick.

Preview won't open 'JPG' images downloaded from a USB stick. I get this message, "The image"IMG_0091.JPG" could not be opened"  It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognise.
I can see the thumbnail, but they won't open. Can I change this in some way? And, no, I can't download them again as I have erased them from the memory card, but they are saved in iphoto.

You can try deleting the .plist. Quit Preview first.

  • Photoshop CC crashes when opening multiple images

Has anyone else got this problem of PS CC crashing when trying to open multiple images? If you open one file at a time, there are no issues, but 2 or more and it crashes as shown below. I've tried it with JPG's, TIFF's and PSD's and still get the same problem.
I've also tried starting it while pressing alt/ctrl/shift, but still get the same problem.
PS CC is version 14.0, 32 bit, running on Windows 7 which is up to date. I do only have 4GB RAM, of which PS takes 60% of it according to the system info panel. Could this be one of the causes, or is it a bug in the software? I never had this problem before in CS6 or previous.
    Thanks in advance.

    Found it eventually!

I never tried importing from the iPhoto library as referenced images. I wonder if Aperture can access images stored in an iPhoto library package?  Even if it would work, it sounds like a bad thing to do.
You might consider starting over and this time have Aperture manage the images.  That will copy them to the Aperture library, leaving the iPhoto library untouched. This assumes you have sufficient space to make a complete copy of all the images in your iPhoto library plus another copy of each image that Aperture makes as the preview image. You can then back up your iPhoto library (two backup copies, just to be sure) then remove it from your hard drive when you start getting too low on space.  As I write this I don't know where your iPhoto or Aperture libraries are/will be located so I'm assuming you have them on your HD.
