Preview opens up blurry..

I noticed this a few months back but since it's not a "crucial" issue I didn't bother posting but I'm just wondering if anyone knows or if anyone else is experiencing Preview opening up images blurry at first & then you have to manually resize the image in order for it to become sharp again.

Does this happen with all images?
I have noticed that Preview opens images blurry on my computer but they go sharp in a couple of seconds after opening. Have you tried deleting the com.apple.preview.plist file in /Users/<<UserName>>/Library/Preferences?
If you don't feel comfortable deleting the file just move it to the desktop. Then log out and back in and see if you are still getting the same effect.
Hope this helps

• Poor quality in preview - image is blurry

To date, I have not had any issues with the preview quality matching the actual image quality.
I have not made any hardware por software changes. Image files are in raw, jpg and tiff formats.
This issue appears to be only with raw files. The image in preview is extremely blurry, yet when the
file is opened it is tack sharp. I have checked all my preference settings and cannot figure out what is goin on.
I have tried purging and refreshing the cache and nothing seems to work.
I am running PS CS4
Windows Vist 64 Ultimate
Please help!
Update: I have changed raw preferences to apply to preview images only. The image qulaity only seems to improve when I
purge the cache for the slected images. I have the cache option for export to folder when possible checked. I have tried to purge the cache for
all images but the preview does not imprevoce unless I purge selected only.

This may be dumb but when it recently happened to me, I opened one image in adobe camera raw and increased the clarity by an inpercievable 1%. Then I hit done. Preview looked crisp again. I copied settings of that image. Then I highlighted all other blurry previews and pasted settings and they all became crisp again. Probabley just a quick fix that doesn't solve the problem but my knowledge is limited.

• Why are previews in Bridge blurry (not rendering properly)?

Why are previews in Bridge blurry (not rendering properly)?
I found a simple answer to this question: control click on the thumbnail and select "purge cache for selection"
After years of intermittently having this problem, this solved the issue. I had just finished a fresh install of main sys hd (new hd) and first time opening bridge encountered this issue again after not having the problem for a few years.
Hope this helps others.

• Why is the preview "Open" window so slow?

Hey, there guys!
I am wondering why it is that the new "Open" window is so slow in preview. It opens slowly, and when I select a folder, it takes a long time to index the folder's contents. However, I can open a file in preview using finder just fine. The indexing times are almost identical to those that I got when I first bought my mac. I noticed that after the update to Mountain Lion, there was a tab added to the top left called "iCloud". I'm wondering if this has anything to do with it?
My question is: what I can do to increase the speed of the Preview "Open" command? I have seen a couple of forum posts regarding people having issues opening files, but none of them talked about the open window itself being slow.
Thanks for your help!

Agree the new ios6 is much slower. I found this post by doing a search to find out if it was only me. I've done off & on & a soft reset. Neither helped. Everything seems to load much slower & hangs.
Maybe the new apps aren't optimized yet. However, I had one of my worst experiences with the Apple App Store. One would think they'd know how to optimize their own site & app.
I just hope it's not a bloat issue because the "upgrades" are not worth the performance trade offs to me.
Also, the iMaps are definitely not ready for prime time. I tried getting directions between two locations that were very mainstream and the app said it couldn't provide directions. I'll take Google without turn by turn, thank you. At least let us have a choice and let the best app win.

• "Open pdf in Preview" opens extra dialog box

From any app, when I select PRINT: Open pdf in Preview, the Preview app opens and correctly displays the desired page or file but... it also opens the "Open" dialog box allowing me to select a file to open. I simple click on CANCEL but this is an annoyance. Anyone have an idea how I go about tracing down the cause of this strange behavior? The Console reports the following 2 lines:
1/13/13 8:49:39.978 PM MTLAgent[370]: Injecting MTL into com.apple.Preview...
1/13/13 8:49:40.005 PM MTLAgent[370]: warning: failed to get scripting definition from /Applications/Preview.app; it may not be scriptable.

Pahu, thank you. After reading your reply, I found a discussion thread called "preview opens fileopen dialog each time it starts", and the complete answer was there. Basically, just open System Preferences – iCloud, and uncheck "Documents & Data". I did get a message that all corresponding data on my Mac would be erased but the data would remain in iCloud for use on iPhones, etc. Since I don't keep any "documents & data" on iCloud (I only keep contacts, calendar, notes, etc. -- those are separate from documents & data), I accepted this. My problem was immediately fixed.
Thanks so much.

• Print Preview Opens "Save File" Dialog

A week or so ago (possibly related to my install of Snow Leopard, not quite sure), when I hit Preview in a Print dialog, I'm taken to a "Save" dialog before Preview opens with the file for preview. Before it would save it to a temp location somewhere and just open it for me.
Feels like the temp location it was writing to before is no longer available, but I'm not really sure where that is to check.
Any suggestions?
Cheers.
Adam

CMD+P on Safari or TextEdit brings up a print dialog box, clicking on PDF button (there's no preview button), reveals the drop down menu, wherein the first option is Open PDF in Preview. This might be a change from Leopard, but I'm not on it at the moment, so can't check. There is a Preview button if you're using MS Word '04 ('08 probably works the same) and it pops up in Preview.

• Preview opens in 2nd monitor

I have a 2nd monitor above my main monitor.
Whenever Preview opens a file, it puts it on the 2nd screen.....only when it is placed "above" the main. Sides and bottom work fine.
Trashed caches, preferences, permissions, etc. Obviously, I have moved the monitor arrangement.
(I have seen this issue on the boards, but no one answers the question.)

That was the first thing I did. And it should have worked.
I also
expanded->Quit.
expanded->expanded->Quit.
swapped Main monitors(switched where the menu bar shows up)
nada.

• Preview opens downloads

I am downloading files from a clip art website.
The file is a .sit, and unstuffs as soon as it hits my desktop.
The problem is, after it unstuffs to the EPS file, Preview opens it as a PDF view.
I don't want Preview to automatically open the file. I just want to download, automatically unstuff and have the EPS on my desktop. Is this possible?

After I performed updates and restarted my computer this was resolved.

• How to stop preview opening pictures in same window?

I know that when you open two or more pictures at the same time, preview opens them in the same window.
However, before today, when I double-clicked on one picture, it would open in preview. Then when I opened a second picture, it would open in a new preview window so I could arrange the pictures side-by-side. Now when I open a second picture, it brings it up as another side 'tab' in the window of the first picture.
I discovered that if I right-click on the tab picture, I can select "open in new window" but then if I open a third picture, it closes the picture I had up (the one I removed from the original window) and replaces it with the new picture.
Please help! Thanks.

I wish this worked for me, but it doesn't.
That preference is set clearly: "open each file in its own window", but Preview does not obey this preference.
This behavior started with Mavericks for me.
Very annoying since every time I open a file I have to go to thumbnails view, click right on the new file, and select "open in a new window".
Very annoying and time-wasting.

• Preview opens files under the browser

(This question was asked in the Printing and Faxing forum first because it dealt with Preview. Someone thought it would be more appropriate here.)
Hi,
When I download a file that Preview opens, Preview will open it and then my browser (Camino) will then appear on top of the opened file (and Preview will be the last app I have to tab to to get to it, even though it is the MOST RECENT app used...). How can I get whatever app opened my downloaded file to stay on top? I think Real files work ok. I am not sure if many other types of files do though.
I don't see a preference in Preview, Camino, OSX or Safari that would control that. I do a pref in Safari that says "Open safe files after downloading" and pdfs are considered safe but that doesn't quite fit the bill here.
Thanks for any help.
I have also asked this in a Camino forum but have gotten nowhere with it.
Cheers,
John L

I looked at this thread I'd started awhile back and followed Dr Smoke's advice about resetting the Launch Services Database. (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=480940&tstart=0)
I was then left with some icons that say they are for Safari but are either Camino docs or Preview docs. (Dr Smoke's advice fixed that last time (but left unsticky prefs for opening apps.))
I finally remembered that I had to go into Safari and tell it that my default browser was Camino (1.5) and after doing that, ALL of my icons are correct. The docs Camino owned have the correct Camino icon AND the Preview stuff has the Preview icon. (What is the connection to Preview, I wonder...)
pdfs continue to open under Camino though. I should say, they actually open for a fraction of a second on top of Camino but quickly go underneath it. Always have.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I can live with this but think it shouldn't happen.
Cheers,
John

• Preview opens jpegs as blank?

Preview opens jpegs as black windows (previously worked fine)
All software up-to-date
tried a couple of the fixes shown in earlier discussions including:
"Solution was to quit preview and go to user>library>preferences and delete the 3 preview .plist files (com.apple.Preview.bookmarks.plist etc) and voila!"
but unfortunately didn't work..
Can anyone help?

Yours is not a common complaint.
Standard debugging procedure would be to use Safe Mode (only essential Apple extensions loaded) to see if the problem occurs there. If no problems in Safe Mode, the trouble may lie in your extensions.
Next on the list is to log in with a different account. If you don't have one, create one, don't use the default Guest account.
Next on the list would be a re-install over the existing. This is intended to erase nothing, just replace anything damaged or missing.
Next is to re-install onto a blank drive ( either a new drive or make TWO sets of Backups and wipe the drive and install from scratch, then restore the rest). [ I recommend the new drive, they are cheap and the process is easier.] Then when adding back extensions, do so one or two at a time, and watch carefully to see if symptoms change.

• Preview opens after Leopard restart

Well, here's a weird one. After successfully installing and updating Leopard, I find that Preview opens up one of my JPEGs whenever I restart my iMac for any reason. I don't have Preview configured to open at Login, nor have I recently opened the particular JPEG recently.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I might get rid of this bizarre behavior?
Thanks,
Kevin

Open the Accounts pane of System Preferences and remove any documents or AppleScripts which may launch Preview from the list of login items for your account.

• Why won't Text Edit and Preview open in Lion?

I have installed Lion over Snow Leopard on my MacPro Dual Core Intel Xeon AND also mad a clean installation on an external hard drive.
In neither case will Text Edit or Preview open.
When I first log into Lion as the various application open on the desktop I notice that a couple of Text Edit files on the desktop mount a coloured icon. After everything is done the icons revert to a grey and white one with a grey "RTF" in place of the picture.
I found the same problem with pages (1Work 9.0) but then I found and upgrade in the Lion recovery pages on the Apple website. Unfortunately there is nothing similar for Text Edit or Preview.
Otherwise everything else seems to work.

I just found the solution on our problen on another post entitled:
After upgraded to LION, Preview.app and Textedit.app keep crash
The problem only occurred on one account on my machine. For that account the ownership on the "Library" folder at the root level of that account was wrong. I set it to the credentials of that user (me) and now both Preview and TextEdit open and work without crashing. This is a hidden folder when in the Finder, but I use the Terminal application a lot, and from there I did a chown to change the owner and group of the Library folder. An additional problem is that you need to have root access to make the change.
The discussion I refer to above gives the procedure to use when in the Finder, so if you're not familiar with using the Terminal window, that is probably the best solution. In that discussion, see the post from Silvertoe on Jul 21, 2011 10:08 PM.
Good luck.

Thanks for your lengthy reminder dude, I have a similar Mac with yours. I suspect its a software fault because it happens after I upgraded to Lion, 10.7.2.

• How can I make Preview open to actual size for all images?

In Snow Leopard, Preview open all images actual size. In Mountain Lion, vertical images (and all images larger than the screen) fit to the screen and I have to use the keyboard command to see actual size. What happened, and is there any way to fix this?

Open a PDF in Preview. Now, right-click on the toolbar and select Customize Toolbar ...
Drag the circled items from the customize panel to your toolbar and release there.
Click the middle button in the Zoom panel. The Scale will report 100%.
Your future Preview documents will open at 100% now.
