Preview Pane... Can it be moved?
The new version has the preview pane on the bottom, instead of on the right like the old version. How do I change back to the preview pane on the right? My better half likes it that way, and you know how that goes!
You are referring to the 'Message Pane'.
Just so that you understand, there is no 'preview' pane. The word 'preview' implies that the message is not open.
When you click on email in list, the email is opened in the 'Message Pane' or if you double click on email in list it is opened in a new tab. Both methods open an email.
It sounds like you ar viewing in Classic layout view.
'View' > 'Layout' > select 'Vertical View'
or via menu icon:
'Menu Icon' > 'Options' > 'Layout' > Select 'Vertical View'

Hi, (this may be in the 353 items thrown up on a search of Mozilla support, but there seems to be a relevance/sort issue.)
I don't want thunderbird to take up my whole screen. There are some problems when using a smaller window:
1. TEXT NOT WRAPPING IN PREVIEW PANE: can you please advise the settings to make the text automatically wrap to the preview pane width? It goes off the edge. I don't want to have to scroll to see it or make my preview pane bigger. (I did this ages ago and need to do it again as I had to rebuild TB)
3. COPY CUSTOM VIEW SETTINGS FOR ONE FOLDER TO OTHER FOLDERS OR SET AS DEFAULT: can you please advise instructions how to do this? (So I can apply my corrected settings to all other folders views!)
2. DONE: VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL SCROLL BARS IN PREVIEW PANE: (I solved this, this is for readers with the same problems!) The scrollbars will not show if the toolbars at the top of the preview pane are wider than the pane. (I think this is called a bug.) Workaround:
(a) maximise thunderbird window/widen the preview pane to show all the buttons across the top of the preview pane.
(b) click the x on the redundant navigation toolbar to remove from preview pane. (you can put all these buttons on the mail toolbar at the top of the whole window- click view, toolbars to show it).
(c) right click on one of the reply/forward etc icons at the top of the preview pane. Click customise. select icons only.
(d) resize the width of your preview pane to desired width, which can be quite narrow as long as it is wider than the toolbar (you'll see the scrollbar disappear when its too narrow).

Very odd you do not auto have this as it is usually set as default.
check settings:
'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General' tab
Click on 'config Editor' button
it will tell you to be careful :)
In top search type: flow
look for the following line:
* mailnews.display.disable_format_flowed_support; Value = false
* If it says 'True', double click on the line to toggle 'True' to 'False'
If you send plain text and want it Flowed text then check this line as well
* mailnews.send_plaintext_flowed; Value = true
* If it says 'False', double click on the line to toggle 'False' to 'True'
Close config Editor window - top right X
click on OK to save changes to Options. -
emails won't open on Mac but will on laptop and iPhone. On Mac can see the subject heading but the rest is blank in both preview pane and if I try to open the emai. Can anyone help me?
Back up all data. Rebuild the mailbox.

Moving Mail Message Preview Pane to Right of Screen Like in Entourage

Would anyone be able to tell me if I can move my Mail Message Preview Pane to the right side of the screen like I can do in Entourage? I prefer the message preview screen on the right side instead of at the bottom as is the default in mail.

Unfortunately, that is not an option. The only choice that the user has regarding the Preview Pane is to show or hide.
Your valid feature request should be made through Mac OS X Feedback.

My email preview pane is blank on my Air. Not on my iPhone or my iPad. Just the Air. Started two days ago. I didn't change anything. I can double click and open the email.
Back up all data. Rebuild the mailbox.

Users are not able to save pdfs after editing. Product is Adobe XI, OS is Win7 64-bit. When saving, an error pops up that the file cannot be saved, it is in use. If they save as a different name, it works. Found several forums/blogs/etc that suggest the problem can be solved by closing the Window7 explorer preview pane. They don't use the preview pane. I figured out that if they completely close the explorer window, they can save. But this means they have to open and close explorer for each file.
Hi, I would like to chime in and say that this problem has not yet been resolved. It is extremely annoying when all I do is highlight a document in the file explorer and I get 5 errors (evenly spaced out about 20 seconds apart telling me that "Microsoft
Word Cannot Start (24)". These errors persist even after windows explorer and word are closed. And I don't want to start terminating processes just to make them stop every time.
I'm a little frustrated with this problem and the other problems I've encountered with MS Office 2013 with file corruption, crashing, 2010 compatibility issues, and the whole host of errors when trying to actually do WORK with Word.
I do work with long, complex reports in Word because that's the best way available for myself (and my coworkers) to use. However, I sincerely regret upgrading to Office 2013 because of it. I love it, all of its features, and its interface, but I simply cannot
use it without problems.

I'm having an unusual problem with recieving emails from just one person. When she replys to an email, I can see the original message, but not her message. If she sends me a "fresh" email, the message is totally blank. In both cases, I can see the first couple lines of her email in the preview pane so I know the content is in there somehow.
She can receive my emails fine. Other people on the same email thread seem to receive her emails fine. Any ideas on a workaround or fix?Shame on me...i upgraded today my iPad 3 and 4S to 5.1.1 and like you my Gmail Box configured as Exchange for Push, is completely broken :|
I can't read my calendars, can't update my contact list and also my email are not downloaded.
This is completely ridicuolous because i also tried to remove the account and restore the devices...nothing worked -
In new IPAD, in email, can see subject data in preview pane but not on right side of screen, its always blank any ideas
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Or
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. -
In mavericks mail, I can no longer collapse the preview pane. I don't want to acknowledge receipt of certain spam messages so changing the size of the window isn't the answer because they are no longer unread.
Ah yes school boy error there out of frustration and discontent..
My issue is with music/apps/films etc not downloading from iTunes / App Store.
They initially fail and message is displayed stating unable to download / purchase at this time, yet if I retry it says I've already purchased (?) or alternatively I go to the purchased section and there they are waiting with the cloud symbol..
However some items get frozen in the download window and cannot be retried or deleted. Message appears stating to tap to retry, but even if you stole every bath and sink in the uk you'd still not have enough taps.
I post here as the iTunes guys are useless in there 'help' and have only advised posting here or phoning apple, at my expense, to explain a problem that could be rectified by forwarding my original email to a techie. However the tech team apparently don't have an email address as they're from ye olde Middle Ages..!
Anyways I digress.
So I tried sync to pc, but instead of showing the file as ready to listen/use/view, the iCloud symbol shows and I'm back to square one as the item is unable to download..
At frustration station waiting for a train from pain...
All my software is up to date, and had all worked fine prior to the last big iOS update that resulted in all the changes in display and dismay.

I open TB and new messages download into inbox. the inbox pane does not show any messages but if I hover the cursor over the pane it highlights a message and when I click on it the message opens in the preview pane. How do I get the messages to show up again in the inbox. Thanks

It is the fact that is is only a single pane in the three pane view that has me. If nothing displayed then I would be happier.
open your profile folder by going to the troubleshooting information on the help menu and clicking the show folder button
create a new folder called chrome
open notepad and insert
treechildren:-moz-tree-cell-text(read)
color: #D50000 !important
Save the file in the new chrome folder as userChrome.css
That forces read mail to be a rather ugly red color. I am looking for answers, perhaps if this also does not work we need to look as something like corrupt font files. -
Marking "Read" When Viewing in Preview Pane

Just upgraded to Leopard... I'm trying to find a way to set Mail so that when you just scroll through the email message list and are viewing in the Preview Pane it doesn't automatically mark the message as "Read". I don't want it to show "Read" unless I actually OPEN the message... Is there a way to do this?!
Thanks!I'm disappointed that Mail on the mac has not added options to control Marking as Read When Viewing in the Preview Pane. I'm using Mail 3.6 (latest as of July 2009) on 10.5.7, and this is still not supported. I have just finished switching to a new mac from a PowerBook G4 867 which I purchased in 2002, and I moved Entourage v.X (not even 2004 or 2008) app and mailboxes over to my new macbook pro. Then I used Mail 3.6 to Import Mailboxes from Entourage. I also imported contacts to Address Book and calendar items to iCal, etc. Finally I can leave Entourage behind --> Not necessarily.
Entourage v.X and Windows Outlook have had this feature for at least five years. Why has this feature been skipped in Mail all this time?
Previewing a message is not the same as Reading the message. Situation one: I like to use the up/down arrows to scroll quickly through messages, and consider which are the most important. Oops, now they're all marked Read! Situation two: Occasionally I click on the wrong message. Oops - it's marked Read now.
Simplest solution: Provide an on/off control: Mark Previewed Messages as Read - on or off
Richer solution: Provide timer control: Mark Previewed Messages as Read After 'n' seconds: - <n>
At least give us the Simpler boolean solution.
I found several threads on the same topic marked as Answered/Resolved. The workaround of getting rid of the preview pane is a poor workaround compared to what has been requested though it seems to be all we have so far. Admins should close the dangling threads only after posting a note indicating why.
TruePreview was proposed as a solution in one of the threads, but I have not tried that. If others have tried and are happy with it, please let me know.

IMovie 11 Preview Pane greyed out
It's preventing playback preview and hence rendering the software useless. Seen other threads alluding to similar situation but no solution. Can anyone help?
It happened following a few hours of editing, but I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary. iMovie froze and I had to restart my MacBook Pro. Upon restarting I couldn't open the project I had been working on, although can if I change the filename each time. Even if I do this, I cannot preview it either in the preview pane or full screen. Additionally I cannot export what I had done, nor edit it in any way.
Sadly, the project I was working on isn't the only one affected. An older completed project exhibits the exact same problems. One or two completed ones will still play in full screen, though the preview pane problem persists in every project. Most frustratingly this includes new projects, meaning I now cannot use the software for editing at all. Clips not yet in a project will play in the preview pane, but as soon as they are dragged to the project can't be previewed.
Any ideas/suggestions extremely welcome.
ThanksAlso forgot to add, when importing my videos into iMovie, I moved them, not copied, because I was trying to save space on my Mac.

Preview pane problems are frequently video card/driver problems. Make sure drivers are up to date.
If you purge cache in tools/cache/purge cache for xxx folder does that change anything? -
Previewing clips in Events pane do not play correctly in Preview Pane
Overall I like iMovie '08 very much, but I have one issue that it really annoying. Basically all of my footage was shot with Casio or Fuji digicams and lives in my iPhoto library. When iMovie imported these clips to the events pane, it looked as if all was fine. However, when I drag my mouse over certain clips to preview them, a different clip actually shows up in the preview pane. I can make selections and add them to the timeline, and when I replay them they look fine in the preview window - it only happens when I preview clips by dragging my mouse. Any ideas?
If you provide some specific information about what cam, sequence settings, codec, FCP, QT and OS version numbers, it would be helpful.

After updating to the latest Reader XI - pdf preview no longer show up in the explorer preview pane
After finally allowing Adobe to update my reader - I no longer can see pdf files in the preview pane. I can see previews if I have medium or large icons turned on - but a large version in the preview pane. And never if small icons or details are used. I could see these files fine before the update. If I right click in the preview pane - I have the option to open the pdf, etc. It's like it is there but I cannot see it. If I close the acrord in the task manager, the next pdf file I click on will have a preview. However, after that, no preview showing for any others. The only way a preview is in the preview pane is if the application is killed in task manager between every attempt.

Could you please let me know what version of OS are you using.
Open Acrobat and go to "Edit > Preferences > Page Display" and check whether 'Show large images' option is checked.
Is this issue specific for one PDF?
If possible, please share the file with me via email so that I can also check at my end.
