Preview Pane:  I don't want e-mail marked "Read"

I love preview pane in Mail, but don't want it to automatically mark my e-mail as "read". Any way to do this?

No. If you look at the contents of a message, it's automatically marked as read, and there is nothing you can do about it other than manually marking it as unread.

I created a PDF of my book in Preview and encrypted it. When opened in Adobe Reader, it is rotated to the vertical position rather than the original landscape position. How do I fix this in Preview? I don’t want to hassle my buyers with rotating. There was no option in Preview to account for this automatic and unwanted rotation.

Then you rotate it and SAVE or SAVE AS and it will remain that way.

    Hi ctconnor;
Since there are no virus for OS X, I seriously doubt that is what is causing your problem here.
My suggestion open System Preferences then Accounts followed by Login Items. Once there deselect Microsnot Word.

  • Don't want incoming mail

I have mail coming from a server without POP. I have it auto forwarding to another account that does have POP and I get it into Mail through that account. BUT, when I reply, I want it's FROM address to be the original account. Thus, I need to create an account in Mail with the original email address. However, since I'm already getting the email from the 2nd account I don't want to set up any incoming server info on the 1st account. Mail won't let me leave it blank. And if I fill in anything, it continually gives me errors since there's no POP account to log into. Does anyone have an idea on how to set up an account to be used ONLY for outgoing mail?

I really want an autofill, where when I hit REPLY, the FROM address gets filled in automatically with the original address.
Yep, I figured that out by interpreting your original question. The question really had nothing to do with incoming mail or a desire to not get it. The method you tried to use to control your return address is not the most common used. Some programs allow you to specify a reply-to address but I don't think Apple Mail has ever done so.
In the meantime, you can always voice your opinion or ask for a new feature by communicating with Apple directly:

I looked around a bit, but don't see any hacks for Mail 3 that will work.

  • Don`t want E-Mails

    Hi,
i don`t want to get an e-mail when somehting happens in my watches threads.
Is there a possiblitly to stop that ?
    Regards,
    Robin

Mike I beg to differ some...
Getting one notification per forum/thread watched is what I would expect.
This should be enough untill I go back to the forum. This action could then reset the flag...
What I don't need is a notification per posting. In view of the mutliple postings and their frequency this is more of a nuisance than a help.
Please get us the possibility to either receive a single email at the first new posting, or allow us to set email notification off.
The colorscheme will tell us then what the new postings are...
    Thanks

  • Mail marking read copy of email in other account

Mail program on Mountain Lion Imac is marking read copies of email in another account which the email was both sent to. Main account is AOL for me and assistant uses gmail account which we both look at. If we are both sent an email and it is read in the AOL account on the Mountain Lion Imac the program marks the email read in the gmail account and the assistant doesn't think it is new. Marking it Unread works as long as the mail isn't read in the other account. This doesn't happen with IOS 6 phone or older operating systems. Can't see any preferences for this.

Are you using the same computer and the same user account? If so, try setting up a new user to separate the Mail accounts. You can then set up fast user switching.
    From System Preferences Help.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Unread mail marked "READ" when opening Mail

I have about fifteen mail messages from a few weeks ago marked "unread". However, when I open my mail box all of today's mail gets marked "read' before I scroll over or read any messages. Any ideas?

  • Mail marked read on iPhone 5 automatically. Why?

This is weird. I just updated to iPhone 5 (restored from 4 backup) but this happened on my iPhone 4 too.
Mail comes in - iCloud email. The iPhone makes it's mail recieved sound, but the mail is not displayed becaue the iPhone has marked it as read. And if I open Mail on my iMac (Moutain Lion) - the email is not highlighted but marked as read too. BUT -  on my iPad Mini (also new) the email is NOT marked Read and the Mail icon lists 1 new message. And it is also in the Notification center. But the iPhone it is not in Notification Center.
This was happening on my 4 too - but not all email. AND Not always the same email. Sometimes the email that is marked read - comes in normal at times.
If Mail on y iMac is open - these emails come in and are not marked read. So it appears the iPhone (4 & 5) is the culprit.
    Any ideas or thoughts?
    Thanks

Hi there I'm having the same issue but only with 1 account, what was the fix?

  • When I print from the web, the print is blue ink, which I don't want and can't read. When I print from Word, it is black ink. What is the problem?

If I print an article downloaded from the web, it prints in blue ink, which is almost not readable. If I download it to Word or print a document stand alone in Word, it prints in black ink, which is what I want. I didn't have this problem before I upgraded to the new Firefox. Please help.
    Thanks

I should also point out that when I connect my iPhone, it DOESN'T appear as a connected drive on the desktop. Not sure how this can be so, since the iPhone also has a drive and also functions as an iPod if I want it to. I must have changed some setting to achieve this non-appearance, but don't remember what I must have done.

  • I don't want Thunderbird to mark multiple emails from same address when I haven't opened them.

When I get multiple emails from the same account--whether a business account (say, Amazon) or a personal one (my friends and family), it marks them as read when I have never opened them. This is a new problem that I've never had until about a month ago.
It's pretty frustrating because I'm missing a lot of emails since I think they're read since they are marked as read, but I've never seen them.
I think the problem began in May or June, but in March I got an iPhone when I'd had a blackberry before then. I add that in case it's significant. I've never opened the emails, and sometimes not even seen the subject line on my phone, so I think that's unrelated, but I add this in case it is. I have not opened the emails on the iPhone, though, so I'm not sure if this is a factor.
I want them to remain marked as Unread like they always did before. I've had Thunderbird about four years, and this is a new prob.
Thanks so much for your help!

I've never seen this happen. Each email messages is distinct and separate; having read one should never automatically affect others, regardless of who sent them to you.
The Blackberry is interesting; it can be configured to make its own local copies and so doesn't affect the status of messages on the server. So you can delete messages on the Blackberry without removing them from the server. I'm not sure how it handles read/unread status. I have the impression it ignores the read/unread status on the server and only indicates when you've read them on the Blackberry itself.
However, I don't have and never have used any appleware, so I can't speak for any interactions your iPhone may be responsible for. It may be useful to keep an eye on the server and see if the read/unread status there reveals anything about how, why and when this is happening.
Are the affected messages separate and distinct, or parts of a continuing discussion thread? Any possibility it is marking an entire thread as read?

  • How do I turn off the preview pane in Mail

I am trying to turn off the preview pane in Mail - ultimate goal is to stop have mail mark a message as read just because I scrolled over it.  I don't want a message marked as read unless I actually open the mail item.
fond this thread continually in earlier discussions from 2009-2011 - but othing more recent.  Surely this has been fixed by now.
    Thanks

Drag the divider between the message list and the preview pane all the way to the right. It will pause about a 3/4 of the way, but keep dragging and it will go all the way over.

  • Hide/Disable preview pane in Mail

Previously one could double-click the border seperating the preview pane from the list of messages to hide the preview pane.
In the Mail application in Mavericks this border is no longer visible. How can I hide the preview pane in Mail on Mavericks?

    Hi,
If you switch to Classic View in Mail Prefs, drag the Horizontal Splitter down to the bottom of the screen then switch back to Modern View, the Preview pane will be gone from both views.
