Preview PDF grayed out

I am using Designer for the first time, and I wanted to preview the PDF after I had added a few fields to a new form.  But when I go to turn on the View > Preview PDF tab the selection is grayed out.  I can publish the PDF and tehn look at it, but that's a pain.  I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0, and I selected that in the Properties - Default, but it is still grayed out.
Help!

Hi,
Try starting Acrobat first (and have it in the background) then start up LC Designer.
Also have a look at the preferences in Acrobat. The display in browser affects whether LC designer previews the form in LC or pushes it out to Acrobat.
Hope that helps,
Niall

  • Preview Commands Grayed Out

The commands in the daughter menus of the Tools > Mark Up and Tools > Annotate commands in Preview are always grayed out.
This does not change, regardless of tool selected or whether a portion of the image has been highlighted or not.
It does not matter whether a JPEG or a PNG image is the current file opened.
Similarly, the "Select" and "Annotate" buttons do not work. Clicking on the "Select" button has no effect, and the "Annotate" button is stuck on the elliptical shape and does not drop down, either.
This was precipitated I think by Mac OS X 10.5.6. It was an update on my MacBook, and it came pre-installed in my iMac. Both macs exhibit this problem since 10.5.6.

I just tried it on several pdf files.
On some, the text markup is not an option - presumably the "text" is not really text but a graphic. On those documents the markup options are grayed out as in yours.
On other pdf docs which clearly have text, if I select a line of text and then choose tools->Mark Up, the options are not grayed out.
I think it's a matter of whether the "text" to be marked up is actually text or a graphic image of text, which is not the same thing.
I can Mark Up this document

    Right-click download and try it.

  • Preview Sidebar grayed out

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I can't turn on the Sidebar in Preview. The Preview Help bar points to Sidebar under the View menu with 2 options, Collapse All or Expand All. Both are grayed out. Search of support topics turned up several with Finder Sidebar problems, but not specifically with Preview. I'm probably overlooking something simple, but I can't find it. Thanks for your help

In the View menu, select either thumbnails or table of contents.

I was able to use Previw to create signatures from camera on my Macbook Air, but all of a sudden, that function is grayed out.

  • Why is Preview PDF greyed out only HTML available?

I can't seem to find how to change settings so I can change the preview option to PDF, can anyone help please?

You need to have either Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat installed to use the Preview PDF feautre. Additionally, the preview pdf feature uses the Internet Explorer plugin, so make sure that is installed and functioning properly.

  • Preview PDF white out issue.

I want to white out a couple of lines on a PDF form.  White out.  No box lines, no shadows.  White.  As in those lines disappear.  What is the deal with the shadows?  Is there a way to just have parts of a doc whited out?

It may be worth pointing out here that redactions in pdf files have been circumvented in the past quite easily. If you want to hide the line you need to delete it.

  • Flattener Preview Highlight Settings Grayed Out

Had to re-install of my Adobe programs due to an overal computer issue.
    I am running Mac OS X 10.7.5 - Adobe Acrobat X - Adobe InDesign CS5.5
I have not had this issue before the reinstall. I have a Adobe InDesign file and did an export to PDF.
I chose Adobe PDF Preset - Smallest File Size, I used the default settings for Smallest File Size preset.
When I opened that file in Acrobat and went to Tools > Print Production > Flattener Preview
When the Flattener Preview window opens at the top it show preview settings. Under the "Highlight" section
the selections are grayed out. I am using items with tranparency within the PDF. Also I have successfully used this
option with this file before. Not sure what is causing the highlight options to be grayed out.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

After hours of messing with this I think I figured it out! Seems like a possible bug in the program. Turns out that even though pages throughout the PDF had trasparency, in this particular case, the first page in the PDF did not. So the "highlight" pull-down menu window is grayed out and it seems to be because the first page does not have transparency even though I had "all pages" checked.
So I went back into the PDF and selected a page that HAD transparency. Then when back into the flattener preview settings and clicked on "all pages" and went back to the "Highlight" menu and trasparency selections were there.
So seems like a weird bug in Acrobat that you have to have a page in the preview window that has transparency for it to work on all pages.
    Hope this makes sense!

  • "Adjust Size" grayed out in Preview now...

    Hi all -
I am trying to adjust the size of a PDF and a JPEG  in Preview, as I have done so many times. However, the "Adjust Size" option is now grayed out. Does anyone know of a fix for this? Or something I might have done that caused the problem?
    Thanks in advance for help...
    Tara

Ran the EtreCheck - and thank you for that suggestion! I have copied the report below - is there anything there that you can tell might obviously be the problem?
Also, I did do a software update yesterday - perhaps there was a little glitch of some sort?
Thank you so very much for your help!

  • "Simulate overprint" grayed out when creating PDF

I'm trying to save an ID CS4 doc as a PDF. The doc is 2 spot colors. Under "Output" the Simulate Overprint checkbox is grayed out. How can I get this to be available?
    - Bob

I haven't checked out Reader 9 but the default for Acrobat 9 Pro is to automatically display Overprint Preview for PDF/X files, but not all files. In Acrobat 9 Pro, choose InDesign > Preferences > Page Display > Page Content and Information (Mac) or Edit > Preferences > Page Display > Page Content and Information (PC). The default setting Use Overprint Preview is set to Only for PDF/X Files. You can set it to all files if you like.
I believe I heard from Leonard Rosenthol, Adobe PDF guru, that originally that feature was supposed to be turned on for all files but PDF  from certain files (read Microsoft Office) caused problems so they turned that off.
You can always display Overprint Preview by choosing Advanced > Print Production > Output Preview.

  • I can no longer send a Pages document.  When I click Share my Send Via Email is grayed out.  When I click on pdf or any format the pull down screen disappears and nothing happens.  Why?  I am using an iMac with Mountain Lion.

I can no longer email a Pages document.  When I click Share my Share Via Email is grayed out.  If I click pdf the window disappears and nothing happens.  Any ideas?

Do you have the application Mail as the default mail application?

  • File Save As Other Reader Extended PDF Enable Commenting & Measuring GRAYED OUT

I have an PDF form created in Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 10.0.
When I open in Reader, All the "Sign" options are grayed out.
Under "Properties" Signing is allowed but Commenting is not.
From all I have seen, I hope that allowing Commenting will allow me to use the sign features.
The only solution I'm finding on the internet is below:
File > Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Commenting & Measuring
It is grayed out in my (latest version of) Acrobat pro.
**Is there a way to make this option available?**
**Will this even solve my problem?**
**Is it possible that it is impossible to use these features on this document?**
At this point, I've spent about two and a half hours on this issue and haven't been able to find a solution. Very frustrated.
    Thanks.

Thanks. I'm not an IT person and needed that lead.
In the end, I just printed to Adobe PDF and then was able to use the commenting options (once I had flattened it). For those who might come across this - this is one of the only ways to flatten a XFA PDF.

  • When I try to convert a PDF file to Word, the Word option is grayed out.

I have opened a form that was scanned to a PDF, and opened Adobe Export PDF.  But the 'Convert to Word' option is grayed out.  What do I do?

Yes, but possibly I wasn't signed in.  I used the alternate method by going online and it worked.
    Thanks
