Preview PDF has a black and white checked background

Hi All.
I am trying to look at a map in pdf format which when opened in Preview has a grey and white checked background behind the black lines. this makes it impossible to read. i realize that I can open this in Acrobat Reader I guess but does anyone know what this is called and why it is there or how to get rid of it/
i realize it has something to do with layers or transparency but is there a good way to get a solid black or white background behind a pdf such as this in Preview?
Thanks for any advice.

When that student logs on go to the Universal Access preference pane and make sure the display setting is set to black on white, then go to the Displays preference pane and make sure it is set to millions of colors.
Those are the only things I can think of off hand that may be causing the issue.

  • Scaning documents to PDF converting to black and white

I have to scan back to back documents for my work into a PDF mode.  The documents are on colored paper so this eats up a lot of bites.  Is there a way to scan these documents and have the PDF show in black and white to conserve how much computer space that take and make uploading time less when I send them on to my employer in a secure encryped web page?

    Hi,
You can see on very first screen (from HP scan software):
    Regards.

  • How can I print a colour PDF as a Black and White/?

Is there a way I can print a PDF with colours as a black and white one?

Is there a way I can print a PDF with colours as a black and white one?
Do you mean black and white or do you mean grayscale?
If you mean grayscale, then the Apple ColorSync Utility lets you build a filter that you apply in the PDF export interface or pick as a prebuilt filter that has already been inserted into the PDF export interface.
There is a prebuilt filter for the Generic Grayscale Profile or if you build your own filter in the ColorSync Utility with your own ICC package you can determine which level of gray you want and which classes of object you want the filter to apply to.
Basically, the ColorSync Utility functions as a colour server for PDF. If you know the Apple ColorSync Plugins for Adobe Photoshop 3-4-5, then the colour server functionality of the ColorSync Utility is simply the same thing applied to PDF rather than to raster images only.
    Hope this helps,

  • Preview is destroying my black and white photos!

I just love Preview App for quick rotating my pictures after scanning from film. But that love disappeared after Maverick update.
I think I know what's happening but don't know how to avoid it. Preview is assigning a BW profile during saving that makes my pics much darker. It happens every time I rotate a pic so after 4 rotation my picture is almost completely black.
Here is my photo stright from the scanner:
Here is how it looks after rotating in Preview.
I tried to assing profiles but it's not hellping at all.
Color pictures are fine and it all started after Maverick instalation.
    Thanks for any help.

When shooting raw, most camera settings are ignored/cannot be read by Lightroom. The notable exception is white balance. And these settings are only metadata anyway, not an integral part of the file itself.
It's different with a jpeg, which is processed in-camera and then these settings are baked irreversibly into the file.
As long as the camera has a Bayer filter array in front of the sensor, the raw file contains color information, which is then processed by the raw converter. If the file is flagged as B/W, the camera manufacturer's proprietary raw converter automatically turns it into B/W. But Lightroom can't read that flag.
In any case you're better off doing the B/W conversion in Lightroom, instead of accepting the camera version, because you can adjust brightness for individual colors. So that gives you much more control:
A few genuine black and white cameras exist, like the Leica Monochrom. These cameras lack the Bayer filter array.

  • Converting Word files to pdf- Output is black and white

    Hello -
I recently updated the Adobe 9.0 Reader on my computer and now when I try to convert a Word file with pictures and/or difffent colors of fonts to a pdf the output is ALL black and white.  I've seen some people here on the forum saying their printer caused the problem, but I have not changed printers and this same Xerox printer worked before.  Plus, I am not even printing the files yet - just looking at them in Adobe Reader - and they are in black and white.  This never happened before.
    Any ideas?  Need help!

You may want to ask in the forum for Reader.

  • Png within my document when converted to a pdf are printing black and white rest is color-help! WHY?

I am creating a document in Publisher & converting to a pdf. Most of my png elements within the document, are then printing black and white from the pdf (everything else is in color)? Don't know what is going on, doesn't seem to happen on all printers, is there a setting I am missing? Help! Thanks

Could be a setting in the PNGs when they are saved.
Have you tried saving them as GIFs and replacing them in the document(s)?

  • Exporting to PDF in Grayscale - Black and White

We have recently been told that even though some of our reports have been created in black and white, they are not printing in grayscale.  Since there is quite a difference in the price, we are trying to explore how we can export in grayscale.  We are trying to avoid printing to PDF (which works when we change the adobe printer to black and white) because it takes a significantly longer time to create the number of PDF's we need to create.  Here are the things we have tried:
    - Making the default printer be a black and white only printer
    - Changing the printing preferences to black and white (it seems our printers just revert back to color every time)
    - Choosing the No Printer option in the page setup in CR.
If you have any other suggestions, it would be much appreciated! Also, if you have an idea why CR would continue to produce the report in RGB when the default printer is black and white, that would be helpful as well.  Thanks in Advance!

After extensive research, we have found that Crystal Reports 2008 does not have a grayscale option for exporting reports - it will only export using RGB colors.  The way we worked around this was export the reports to PDF, then used Adobe Acrobat to Batch Process all the reports using their "Convert to Grayscale" option.  This seems to work just fine, but adds an extra step in our process.

  • Converting a PDF to pure black and white

I'm currently attempting to convert a PDF of any colorspace (RGB, CMYK, Grayscale etc) to black and white.
Currently I'm walking the PDF using Adobe PDFLibrary, separating the contained PDEElements and identifying them (Image, text, etc).
Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed from here? I figure the actual conversion operation will have to be written from scratch, as Adobe doesn't seem to support this. However, I'm having a hard time determining the colors of each object. I suppose I could rasterize everything and convert pixel by pixel, but I'd like to avoid that and preserve vector images and such if at all possible.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, I'm aware that there is no monochrome colorspace. However, wouldn't it be possible (likely at a very low level) to fetch and modify the colors of elements manually?
I suspect the initial thing to do is convert images to the DeviceGray colorspace and work from there, so I have a uniform colorspace to work with when performing this operation.
I've noticed that if I pull the ImageData object out of a PDEImage, I get an array of bytes that appear to be pixel by pixel color data. Now, in doing this have I rasterized the image? What would happen to vector images if this array were to be modified?

  • Exporting to PDF: Text as black and white only possible?

    Hi!
I do have a large document where 30% of the pages do use colors 70% plain text. I'm asked by the printing company to export the text only pages as plain black and white PDF's. They showed me the function on Windows and Word. Is it possible with pages, too?
If it helps, I do have the Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium (with Acrobat).
    Thanks,
    Matt

Yes it is but you have to fix your text so that it is styled to black only.
Click in the text and go command a (select all):
    Menu > View > Colors
Click on the sliders icon at the top of the pallette and choose Grey Scale Slider and then the 0% swatch.
Resave any styles you have used and fix any text or objects that are not part of your main text.
You can also open your pdf file in the ColorSync Utility found in your Utilities folder inside your Applications folder and apply Filters > Black & White

  • Pdf reads in black and white

When I download an attachment fro my client and try to view or downlad in apple mail the images on the layout are in black and white. When I pull the pdf up through say Gmail images are fine but once downloaded to Mac are saved as black and white

    >it also results in a far larger PDF
You'll need to set your compression settings the same as you use for the PDF printer. Do a "save as" and you'll see those options.
Just a workaround if you can't get the printer to cooperate.

  • Emac 1.25 GHz 512 running OS 10.4 only has a black and white display

The above machine when running will not show any color display, only black and white. Any suggestions out there on how to resolve this issue? thank you.

Are you sure that is displays only a two bit black and white image or, is it in fact set to display grayscale image?
If it is set to grayscale, simply launch the System Preferences application, press the Universal Access pane, select the Seeing tab, then uncheck the Use grayscale checkbox located roughly in the middle of the dialog box.

  • Black and White Gray Scale Photos Are Dark When Exported from Indesign to PDF

When I print right from InDesign the black and white photos look great.  However, if I print the exported pdf file, the black and white photos are much darker.  Is there something I should be doing upon export so that they will look as they do in InDesign?
    Thanks,

I have tried different settings in format and color space all with the same results. I'm sure it has to do with system not being calibrated. I'm not to computer literate so not sure how all this works. The other programs must go along with my computer and moniter settings where LR and Elements produce their own rendering independent of settings. Yes, I checked and Elements renders like LR. I found some other forums that discussed similar problems but with color rendering. HMMM, just tried something. In Picassa I switched to Linear Gamma 2.2 in display mode and the LR edited photos look correct. So it must be something along those lines being the problem.

  • Identifying black and white versus greyscale in PDF

Is there a way to identify from within a scanned PDF document (ie, something like a document property) that it was scanned as greyscale, black and white, or color?  My company is using Acrobat 7.0.  We have a requirement, for a variety of reasons, that PDFs for certain projects be provided as black and white scans only, but all too frequently we get them in greyscale or color.  We need to be able to easily identify that a PDF is not black and white.
    Thanks in advance!

    Try the Preflight Tool.

  • How to create black and white pdfs from autocad drawing

I am trying to create a pdf from autocad drawing with searchable text.  Using the default acad pdf driver, it will create searchable text for only TT fonts with width set to 1.0.  We use the monochrome plot settings so pdfs are all black, even if drawing was in color.
Using 'create pdf' from Acrobat Pro, Acrobat pro will create a pdf from the autocad drawing easily with all text searchable, shape fonts, TT fonts, no matter what the width.  Fantastic.  However, there is no option that I can see to create the pdf in just black and white.  It creates the pdf in drawings original colors.  How do I create a black and white pdf using acrobat pro?  Thanks.

    @gordon15
The only way to change the color of the printouts from your iPhone is through HP's free mobile app "HP ePrint Home&Biz". This is available in the App Store.
Simply download and install the app, choose a file to print from within the app, then press the icon at the bottom right of the screen that is a wrench and printer. This should then give you the option to choose the color output. Make your selection, press "Done", then press "Print."
If you are not seeing this option, you may need to setup ePrint for the printer and then register the app. This registration will also give you more functionality with the app.
If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!
