Preview print problem

Can't find a forum for Preview, so thought I'd better start here (any suggestions for where to go next time gratefully received...). I'm having real difficulties printing pdfs from Preview: some bits print ok, other bits - that show up on the screen and on the print preview - just don't appear on the printed page. Has anyone else encountered this and do you have any suggestions for how to fix it? (Printer is a Lexmark C534dn, by the way.)

Not all pdfs - that's the strange thing. Any that I generate using Pages, for example, are fine. Also many that I download from websites print ok. However, for every three or four that are fine, I also get one that isn't. Today I was sent a Direct Debit mandate, for example, and only half of the information actually printed. A few weeks ago I downloaded some information from a perfectly reputable site and only the background image printed, but no foreground text.

Safari adobe pdf preview printing problem

Hello,
I use HP laserjet color 1600. After downloaded Maverick, I can't print pdf preview from Safari anymore. Error is "filter failed" or "bit depth and / or color not supported by threshold set".
Problem is that this is an official dynamic pdf document protected, that you can only fill in on line; I can't dowload it as regular pdf file.
Still before I installed maverick, I could always print those type of pdf preview from Safari.
So I already updated java and adobe, as my printer software, and I already launched "system updates"... I mean after I install Maverick.
But I'm still stuck
Any tips to solve it ?

If I select multiple images with Preview, select all and then ask to print, colours are scrambled on all images after the first one. This also appears in the print preview, when printing to PDF, etc.
Is anyone else able to reproduce this and so it can be reported as a bug? I've only got Leopard on one machine so can't check on another. It seems to happen regardless of what images are chosen, and after trashing the Preview plist files.

Print problem. trying to print a document in Preview, the start of the text prints half way down the page not at the top of the page?

Print problems. Printing out an email the text starts half way down the page. I tried taking a picture of the text I wanted to print, tried to print from Preview and have the same problem. If anyone has any ideas I would really apreciate it. Thanks Penny

One more thing to check: System Preferences/Print & Scan. Make sure your printer is set as Default.
I'm using OS X 10.8 and I don't see Page Setup anymore. If you have access to Page Setup, check to see if there are any adjustments to make there.

Preview App printing problem

Running 10.6.8 on a Quad-Core PowerMac with Canon IP2600 printer via USB.
Thought I was running out of ink at first, but a closer look shows documents printed from Preview.app are printing only outlines of black characters and black graphics as if everything is in an outline font. At first it was the lower 2/3rds of the page, then 3/4s, now it's the entire page printing black in faint outlines only, very precise (while color logos print normally).
These docs are PNGs. The same PNG prints perfectly in Photoshop. So I created a doc in Photoshop with two thick, solid, vertical black lines; saved and printed as a PNG and as a JPEG, both print fine in Photoshop. When opened and printed in Preview, both print as a series of very thin rectangular outlines running down the page.
Started happening out of the blue a few days ago, so I trashed three Preview pref files (showing recent modification dates), restarted and nothing changed. Do I need to reinstall the app? Can't think of any recent changes that might've affected Preview or the printer, no updates or installs in the past few weeks. Preview displays onscreen as it's supposed to.....
Anybody have a clue what's going on here? The only other Preview.app printing problem I can find has to do with printer color profiles.....

Well..... duh!
The real mystery is why docs in Photoshop continued printing long after Preview had quit printing those SAME docs. Photoshop never did fail to print - but a new ink tank/print head solved the problem.
Good thing ya can't LOSE points for asking stupid questions, huh.

Excel Print Preview and printing problems

After upgrading to Leopard, I get a blank page (same when I print) and MS Excel spreadsheet. Anyone else have this issue and what is the solution? Microsoft web site indicates an issue but there updates this month didn't do anything (same results).

Thanks for the advice here. I've had the same problem using Excel to print to a Brother MFC-440CN printer. Used the workaround described above, but also selected 'Options' in Page Setup and then selected 'Format for Brother MFC-440CN'. Changed the print resolution to 600 dpi and was then able to preview & print. However, the document had to be reformatted to print in landscape, not portrait. Glad to hear that MS are working on a fix as this could be a real pain if it continues too long!

MB90 print problem when using print preview

Dear Expert,
We have print problem using transaction code MB90.
After input data on transaction MB90 and then we choose print preview.
Output document will be displayed, then the problem occurs, print icon and print menu are grey out.

Print problem after exporting Pages to PDF.

I am attempting to print a very large genealogical book (300 + pages) of my family's descendants and noticed that in both Preview and Adobe Reader the first character of every page is missing. This does not happen when printing from Pages so it cannot be a printer problem. I checked the placement of the print against the Pages page and both Preview and Adobe Reader are EXACTLY the one character difference with the pages exactly even with each other. The original page type is 12 pt with margins: Left .5in, Right .5in, Top .75in, Bottom .75in, no header, Footer .5in using 9 pt type. What is really odd is that the onscreen display is correct but only the printed (HP OJ6500E702n wireless duplex marginless printer) copy is incorrect which indicates to me the conversion is somehow creating this problem.
I need this PDF file as it is the file I print from plus I put the file on a disk as a backup for the paper book for all book recipients.

While this problem is for ANY application that EXPORTS, not prints, to a PDF format, I have discovered that the problem is probably be with the printer's minimum allowable margins being physically the same regardless of portrait or landscape instead of the logical rotation of margin type locations in landscape mode. Question answered by logic research.

Troubleshooting Leopard printing problems

Leopard printing problems fall into several categories
a) Faulty or missing Leopard print driver
b) Faulty implementation of the print command from the active application
c) Faulty equipment, eg printer, cables, etc
d) Faulty networking/sharing
e) Faulty or incomplete software installation
The fact that a driver is included with Leopard is no guarantee that it will work. I have heard it from HP's tech staff that several of their drivers installed with Leopard are malfunctioning and I expect that many other printer manufacturers rushed out some poorly tested drivers in order to meet Leopard's shipping deadline.
Equally, some non-Apple applications have not yet properly tested their print command under Leopard so they cannot be used to reliably test whether a print driver is working or not. To get a more reliable indicator, save a print job as a PDF and then open the PDF in Preview and print it from there - or print a simple text page from TextEdit.
Also be sure to check cable connections carefully and if possible, try a different cable to make sure that this isn't the cause of printing problems.
Networking/sharing is fraught with pitfalls especially if the network is wireless. If possible, check printer sharing over a wired Ethernet network. There may also be issues when the print driver is not the same version on all computers in the network. To ensure that there are no remnants of a previous driver it's a good idea to completely uninstall previous drivers and then reinstall the most recent driver. To do this (for example on a 10.4 system):
1. Delete the printer by opening Printer Setup Utility, highlighting the printer if it is listed and clicking on the Delete button.
2. Clear the printer folder by navigating to Hard Drive/Library/Printers and dragging the offending printer-specific folder to the Trash.
3. Clear the Printer Preferences by searching in the System for "com.apple.print" and dragging all files so named to the Trash.
4. Empty the Trash
5. Repair Disk Permissions
6. Download the latest drivers for your printer and install.
7. Open Printer Setup Utility and if the printer is listed, highlight it and press the Delete button at the top of the window. Then click the Add icon, single-click the name of the printer and click Add so that the printer appears in the printer list.
8. To check that it works, create a test page in TextEdit, configure the print job in the Print window and print.

Printing problem in cs5 and imac 27

I have been running my Epson Stylus Pro 4800 on a macbook pro and cs3, for a couple of years with no problems whatsoever. I have now upgraded to a new iMac 27"and have had nothing but problems with the 4800. I have made my own profils and used Epson paper profiles but the prints are not as colourful as they used and totally wrong as well. I am also getting totally oversized prints compared to what image seize in ps is set to be.....for example, I have been doing a 10x21 test picture on Premium Lustre paper (photoshop is managing the colours through CS5, but it is printing the image at least 1,5 the size that it should be. All my settings are correct, dpi is 300, I'm printing at 1440dpi resolution on the correct profiles for the paper. I am at a loss to understand why this is happening. Is anyone able to assist me?
I can do the printing in preview and that is looking quite ok. But trough photoshop it is bad colors and wrong size on the print.

I saw you're having a printing problem with CS5 while using an Epson printer. I'm having a problem too. Read my situation and see if you think it's similiar to yours. I posted this about an hour ago but have not heard from anyone yet.
I'm having problems getting good prints when using Photoshop CS5 with my Epson Photo R2880 printer, problems I never had with CS4. Here's the situation:
If I take a PSD file and print it using CS4, everything works out perfectly. But if I take that same PSD file and print it out using CS5, the print is now offset top to bottom, as well as left to right, along with a 1/8" black strip being printed down the right edge of the paper. As far as I can tell, everything is set the same.
I've compared all the print information found in the Print dialog summary box between CS4 and CS5 and everything appears to be the same. I've verified that I'm using the latest print driver with my printer, and I am. It's 8.27. I've verified that I've checked off the box to center the print to the paper, each time I've made a print. And in trying to figure out what's going on, I've discovered that this problem occurs with any paper size when using CS5, but not with CS4.
I'm stumped and frustrated and without any more ideas as to what I should do next, except to always print my projects using CS4. If anyone has an idea for me, please let me know!
I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions for you. The colors I'm getting in my prints from CS5 seem to be alright, but not the positioning on paper. It keeps offsetting and running a black stripe down one side. Fortunately I have CS4 on my computer that I can use to print from, but it shouldn't be this way.

Using Smartform after preview print with a selection screen

Hi experts,
     I am facing with some smartform printing problem.
    Here is the problem:
    We develop an add_on program for printing some FI report and we use F:Front end Printing in SPAD Access Method.
    The problem that we faced is: After enter the TCODE, we select preview into the smartform window.( Display is all right) At this window, when we click Print Icon, the output request directly sent to the printer and the page printed out without giving a selection window for selecting Printers and printing page range (Like standard print configuration).
    What we want is that after displaying the FI report in smartform, we could select the print page range and printers in user's PC.
    Appreciate for your valuable advice.

Preview Printing

I'm posting this question here after trying it at the Printing And Faxing forum. I have a book of my own compositions that i scanned to a disc. The book has a table of contents, and other introductory material that is numbered with roman numerals. The rest of the book is numbered normally, starting with the first composition on page one. The problems start when i try to print out one of the tunes. I click the print icon, enter the the page i want to print (i.e. from 23 to 23) and hit print. What happens is, Preview prints the 23rd page of the entire book, including the introductory pages, not page 23 starting from page 1. Other than adding up the roman numeral pages and tacking that on to 23 and printing that number, is there a way around this? It's extremely annoying, and it's kind of ruining Preview for me, even though i like it much better than Adobe Acrobat (where i don't have this problem) I'd like to dump Adobe and just use Preview, but i can't until this problem is solved. I have Word, and have been trying to open the PDF's in it, but I haven't been able to get it to work. I open Word, then file/open, then I navigate to the files on the disc, but all the different PDF's are greyed out. I just don't understand how PDF's can be opened in a text program. With that said, it's not really that big of a deal. Acrobat works o.k., I just like Preview better, it runs more smoothly and the images look better, I just hate the printing thing that started this whole thread. And thanks for the music scanning apps, but scanning my hand-written scores into the computer hasn't been the problem, just the printing in Preview.

SL - Pages & Printing problems

I have upgraded to SL. Since then my business logo doesn't print properly. It has a colored design with some gray scaled lettering surrounding it. When I select it and copy to another application such as : Word - it then has a black background as does Appleworks. (it wasn't created with a black background). - Copy to Preview prints perfectly. Pages where the document was created, prints with all the lettering in blue (supposed to be shades of Gray), and the artwork is not the right shade. It seems like this is more than a printing problem, since coping it to another app. changes its appearance also. Before SL, I could print, and copy to other apps with no problems. Please advise!

Preview pdf problem in Bridge CS4

Hello,
When I want to make preview prints from PDF files sometimes I see double pages, and I think one is a low resolution file and the other is a high resolution file. So I have a problem to make previews of these double pages in Bridge CS4. Does anybody know this problem and how can I solve this, any help with this is very welcome. I can open the file in Acrobat Reader and I just see one page!

You must have done a screen shot of the thumbnail as the enlarged version is same size. But can still see difference.
I would revisit your thumbnail setting and make sure it is HQ Iif you want to see edits in thumbs, and check the default ACR setting. Don't assume they are the same as computer can do unexpected things.
Read the link I gave in post #1 as see if you have all the correct options selected.
When you click on thumb does the preveiw panel show the same dull image or a correct one?
It is possible the update fouled everything up, but seems like there would be more complaints. I am still on ACR 6.4 however. Am a slow adopter.
