Preview rasterizing PDFs- how do you stop this?

I really am starting lean more on OSX PDF tools- but I have one recurring problem that is causing me a bit of pain. Some PDF files get rasterized when preview opens them. Then from that point on they look bad and have "no text in them" (can't be searched or indexed). This is breaking a lot of nice applications (like Spotlight, Papers and DevonThink). The same PDF can be opened by Adobe Acrobat Reader on OSX (and has text present when so opened). My guess is that the files have some fonts that OSX does not have or are a version of PDF that is not completely supported. Is there any way to fix this?
An example paper (1 page) is http://www.mzlabs.com/00211.pdf . When Acrobat opens it all is well and the fonts reported are things like "T1, Type: Type 3, Encoding: Custom, Actual Font: T1, Actual Font Type: Type 3". Spotlight can not see into the body of this file (though it does seem to see the metadata). I can limp around this (like run DevonThink's OCR on the document and save the results- but this is labor intense and results in a very large file).
I would really appreciate some help in making my Mac "perfect PDF heaven."

Just a hunch. Are you getting these from Mail? I used Mail to send some PDFs a while ago and I discovered that if you use the feature at the bottom that limits image sizes, it will actually rasterize your PDF attachments in order to shrink file sizes or something.
Let me know if this means anything to you.

The printer will print a test page every time I turn it on. Is there any way to stop this from happening? Why is it doing this?

The page is an alignment page, it will print until the alignment completes properly. See here for information on how to complete the alignment.

Lightroom automaticaly enlarges print size. How do you stop this?

How do you keep Lightroom from changing the print size? For example, if I have a 4.5 x 7.5 image ( the image size displayed in PS), LR seems to want to make it larger than this size, such that it fits into an arbitrary cell size designated by the "Fine Art Mat" template. I select this template because the other single cell templates want to enlarge it even more.
How do you tell Lightroom to leave the image size alone? Right now I have to open the image in PS, check the exact size dimensions, then switch back to LR and specify these dimensions in the cell size, which rounds the numbers off to two decimal places. This is time consuming and awkward. Why isn't the default to print the image its actual size instead changing to fit an arbitrary cell size in a template? Lightroom is suppose to make things simpler, but in this case it makes it more complicated.
Also, if you want a specific size image and ppi, is there some way to specify the size like you can do in PS?

What I mean is print size. I agree that it is possible to specify a cell size, which is how print size is specified in LR. The problem is that LR doesn't know what size the image is suppose to be printed at. This is not my fault, but a fault in the design of LR.
The actual print size of a digital image is determine by its number of pixels and the specified resolution. These parameters are encoded in each image file. LR fails to recognize this information, ignores the information and automatically changes these parameters to fit into an arbitrary cell dimension/resolution.
This is LR fault and not the photographer. It creates a very real issue to not only photographers who scan artwork but also for photographers who have regularly made prints in the past of their own work or artwork they reproduce for others. For example I and many photographers make prints of our work, exhibit this work and sell it. Our image files have encoded in them the pixel dimension/resolution, thus the print size on paper. When a print is ordered, then we want to be able to print it out quickly at this encoded print size. This should be a zero step process, as far as image print sizing goes, since we have already previously encoded the print size.
Print sizing in LR is not a zero step process for previously encoded files, it involves the steps outlined in my original posts. This is an issue to many photographers who sell prints of their work or reproduce artwork of other artists. Granted it only takes a minute or two completing the steps I have outlined, but this is a nuisance, considering that it could be very simply avoided by the suggestions outlined by myself and other posters to this thread.

Upgrade firefox and the bookmarks quadruple on the upgrade from the old version how can you stop this it would be nice to upgrade?

I am running windows xp and firefox 2.0 and when ever I go to upgrade to any version of firefox my book marks will quadruple and I have no idea as to why I have even tried to move my saved book marks onto a disk and it still will do the same thing. I went into the profile folder and found these files but it will not allow you to delete them so now what do you do. I am wondering if I go in and search the hard drive and delete everything that has to do with bookmarks then try to down load the up grade and then load my book marks from a disk would that work? cw

I have tabs that are always reloading and at times it either slows things down or I stopped it before in a previous version. How can you stop this constant refreshing? Its not just one site usually its all of them.

After the last upgrade the tabs will begin refreshing at times it slows my movements the page freezes til it catches up. Or if flashplayer is running it will crash. One of the previous versions had this problem but there was an area to go to, to disable it. Ive tried about:config but it still refreshes. Im using Wimdows 7

And yes the credit union has made a change because now it no longer recognizes my computer as a personal computer when I am using Firefox after the latest Firefox update, and requires me to answer a security question to log in, which is why I had been using Safari, but as I was in Firefox I was lazy and didn't switch browsers.

Keynote crashes and reboots the laptop! How do you stop this??

I am using Keynote 3.0.2 on a MacBook 2Ghz Intel Core Duo with 1GB RAM. I have a 200 slide presentation with some embedded video (about 200MB file). From time to time when I hit "Play" to start the presentation, Keynote crashes and the macBook reboots itself! What is the fix to this bug?

The thing is that Keynote isn't crashing all the time, it just happens once in a while. And that's what it makes so ennoying.

Mail receives mail automatically when I open it. How do you stop this?

I have set up my Mail to "Check for new mail manually" in preferences. However it checks for mail when I start the program. I'd rather it not and make it a totally manual process.

Are you sure the account is checked for new mail?
A .Mac type account is really an IMAP type account so any mailboxes stored on the server (under the .Mac account icon in the mailboxes drawer) are automatically synchronized with the server when first launching Mail and connected to the internet if the account is enabled under the Advanced tab for the account preferences.
I have 3 POP type accounts, a .Mac account and 2 IMAP type accounts. As a test, I deselected "Include when automatically checking for new mail" for all accounts and then quit and re-launched Mail. None of my accounts checked the incoming mail server for new mail but all server stored mailboxes for my .Mac account were synchronized with the server.

Window opens behind another window with sound how do i stop this.

When I open a window, another window will open behind it with sound. Mostly some add witch I then open that page and close. How do you stop this unwanted pages from opening?

I assume we are talking about Safari? If so goto Safari > Preferences > Security. Make sure Block pop-up windows is checked.
Also uncheck Enable Java. I have had problems with pop-under windows and this has prevented them. If you have a site that requires Java you can always re-enable it.

How do you stop preview from doing AutoSave?
Preivew keeps saving different copies of a pdf I am working on (highlighting/annotating), and I now only have 1GB left on my harddrive (had 180GB left).

If you are using Safari, look at Safari > Preferences > General and make sure 'Open "safe" files after downloading' is not checked. Other browsers should have a similar setting in their preferences.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

How are you creating the file, exactly?
