Preview / real picture mismatch bug. LR4.x

Hi,
Could someone please confirm this annoying bug.
1. Create new catalog.
2. Import some images (preferable raw) and let LR create standard previews.
3. Rename images as folows: Custom name - Sequence ( Pic-1, Pic-2, Pic-3 etc.)
4. Do some edits to the images, like exposure +1 stop
5. Now, rename the same sequence of images to the same name but start sequence # at 2.
6. By now you should have a messed up catalog with previews from the first initial rename. Switch between library and develop and look for the sudden swap from the wrong preview to the real picture.
And the bad thing about this is that LR thinks the previews are up to date, so recreating or rendering 1:1 does not work. Only solution it to wipe the preview cache, and let LR rerender all previews for the entire catalog.

That certainly is some odd behavior for the thumbnails. I'll log a bug.

I duplicated a picture and now iPhoto (11) is cloning that picture replacing all the other photos and only when I click directly on them I can see the real picture! How can I solve the problem without losing any saved picture? Shall I re-install? Thanx

I duplicated a picture selecting CMD and D but, suddenly, iPhoto (latest version '11) started cloning that picture and replacing all the other photos with it.
Only when I click directly on one photo I can open it and see the real picture it is.
But the preview is always the duplicated one...
I tryed to duplicate another picture just to see if it turned out ok but the only changement was the duplicated picture!
I started repeating the second duplicated one instead of the previous one but my issue remained the same.
So, how can you help me to solve this problem without losing any saved picture?
Shall I re-install iPhoto completely?

As Larry says, restoring the back up is the fastest and best solution. Otherwise:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I'm using 9.2.1. Every time I open an album, I get a "face (the same one)" covering every picture. If I click on the picture, I can see the real picture. How do I get rid of this "face" that covers all?

Make a temporary backup of your library (if you don't already have a backup of it) and launch iPhoto with the Command +Option key held down and rebuild the library with options #1, 2, 3 and 6 selected.

Real Picture Animation

Greetings All,
I've been doing a lot of work with the LV6 picture function to simulate various systems to show how they will react to aid in system development. The animations react in real time to the inputs being provided from the controls under development via serial data or DAQ input.
I've been doing pretty good at showing a basic representation of the systems just using built-in picture functions, but my team lead now wants to use real pictures for the animations instead of just rectangles and circles.
Has anybody tried to animate pictures. What I would basically need to do is this. First, picture a bucket loader on the front a tractor. It's basically 2 pieces, an arm and a bucket. The arm has 1 stationary end, it's pi
vot point, and 1 moveable end where the bucket is attached. The bucket pivots on the end of the arm. To simulate this with real pictures, I would need to draw 2 separate pictures and be able to rotate one end while keeping the other end still to show the lifting motion. As far as I can tell, this can't be done with real pictures, it looks to me that the only movement possible is horizontal and vertical by changing the top-left start point. I've successfully built this simulator using the basic picture functions.
Another problem I see is pictures are all rectangles, so I would not be able to show the real shape of the various parts without having extra dead space around the part. This dead space would cover other parts and ruin the picture.
Maybe something is possible using ActiveX or Flash, but I'm not sure you can input a number and move individual parts of the animation.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello again All,
I thought a bit more explaining was needed on my part, so I've attached the bucket loader I originally built, and a sketch of what the new project is so you would have a better idea what I'm trying to do.
The loader in this example is a bit different than the one used for development in that you can control the position with buttons and in the real one, the position comes from DAQ, but the animation is the same.
If you look at the new project sketch, you'll see it is much more complex having I think 5 interacting, movable arms and a couple hydralic cylinders that also move.
As you can see, the range of motion is much more that just up and down.
I'm pretty sure I can do this in the same manner I did the loader, but I'm suppose to try to
use actual digital pictures for the individual parts instead of the 'Draw Rectangle' and other draw functions.

Black Preview // No Picture in Premiere Pro CC 2014 // MCP Retina 15" (2013)

Dear fellow Premiere Pro users,
I am facing a problem recently.
When editing it quite often happens that the picture in the sequence monitor and preview monitor from one moment to the other just turn black and stay so until I restart the app.
I also witnessed a graphical distortion when using premiere. The screen "crashes" which means that it really looks like an electrically distorted pixel crash thing.
Both occurences do not depend on what kind of footage is used. It happens with DSLR footage as well as Blackmagic Material.
Both Problems do not seem to be connected to each other since they also appear seperately. But sometimes they pair up. Wehn that happens Premiere just freezes and I have to force quitting.
I assume that there might be a problem with the graphic processor or the graphic card or both.
Hardware and software check ups did not find any problems. I also have CUDA updated as well as all my other Adobe apps.
The system partition has more than enough free space and i care about my MCP not to get too hot.
Does anyone have that problem or can imagine what might go on inside the app or hardware?

Thanks for posting that info. This mirrors the issues I'm seeing with DSLR footage.
It's so hit or miss if it's going to flicker. I'll delete renders and re-render and certain clips will be fine, others are now flickering. I tried to make a test project that demonstrated this issue, but couldn't reproduce the effect. RGB Curves and Three Way CC are in my list of effects, as well, where I see the issue.
Just curious, is anyone else working on projects started in other versions/computers? I've seen it on project started in PPro CC and finished in CC'14. Saw it again on a project started on Mac in FCP7, converted to CC'14 Win7. Quite honestly, I haven't been starting projects myself in CC'14 because of the flicker issues.
As a workaround, I was hoping to import the CC'14 project back into CC or Media Encoder CC, but no luck there.
Another issue I've had with CC'14 includes converting a CC project to CC'14, giving it to a CC'14 Mac user and the A/V sync is lost. We abandoned that collaboration all together because of the issues. CC'14 has been incredibly unproductive to my workflow, despite the great interface update and various other features added. I haven't had mystery issues like this since CS4. I'm keeping our post team in CC as much as possible until the issues are resolved.

Why doesn't picture corrections in Lr4/LR4.1 any longer follow to Photoshop?

When I edit a picture in LR4 and then open it in Photoshop none of the corrections show up. I could do this in LR3.

You're likely using a version of Camera Raw that doesn't support PV2012. The only one out that does is ACR6.7 Beta. If you don't want to go that route, you have to select the render in Lightroom option.

Preview 4.2 search bug?

I used to be able to easily search a parts catalogue using older versions of Preview. Now when I put same number in to Preview 4.2 the matching string does not show up even though it's in there - instead I have to scroll through endless search results matching only first groupo of numbers in the whole string, rendering the search unusable.
Have searched and googled but can find no reference to this.
Have only experienced since upgrading to Leoprad, the older version of preview (3.0.7 I thin) running on my Tiger machine works fine and homes in instantly on matching string.
Anyone have a fix please?

About the best(?) I could find in Leopard 10.5.8 Preview application, was a way of
"assigning keywords to an image or pdf document" to help in later finding them(?)
In the open Preview application, there is a Help menu bar, within it, is Preview Help.
While there are several things Preview can do, the kind of search it used to do in
Tiger is not among them in the rendition of Preview given us in Leopard.
Seems to me, using EasyFind may be faster;
depending on what you're looking to find.
One or more of the comments about this freeware app said they found Search in
Preview lacking after they upgraded to Leopard, compared to Tiger's Preview. And
Find, within Preview is also somewhat limited.
Not sure if one could call the omission or change of a feature, a 'bug'; however since
Leopard 10.5(.8) is well past the development stage, fixes to this kind of problem are
unlikely to occur. You could try to Contact Apple (in web site) and suggest a bug-fix.
Apparently this has been a known issue, for those who sought to keep using it thus.
Since I hadn't been using the Preview's built-in search, in either OS X, it's my loss.
There probably are other user forum questions about this matter elsewhere online.
However involved the idea to 'assign keyboards to images and PDF documents' may
be, the Preview Help suggestion has a few words to say about. + I'm not impressed.
Sorry to not have a definitive answer or a fix to this issue.

How to stop preview opening pictures in same window?

I know that when you open two or more pictures at the same time, preview opens them in the same window.
However, before today, when I double-clicked on one picture, it would open in preview. Then when I opened a second picture, it would open in a new preview window so I could arrange the pictures side-by-side. Now when I open a second picture, it brings it up as another side 'tab' in the window of the first picture.
I discovered that if I right-click on the tab picture, I can select "open in new window" but then if I open a third picture, it closes the picture I had up (the one I removed from the original window) and replaces it with the new picture.

I wish this worked for me, but it doesn't.
That preference is set clearly: "open each file in its own window", but Preview does not obey this preference.
This behavior started with Mavericks for me.
Very annoying since every time I open a file I have to go to thumbnails view, click right on the new file, and select "open in a new window".
Very annoying and time-wasting.

Messages won't automatically preview received pictures?

When I had OSX 10.8, the messages app showed recieved pictures that were attached to images automatically. Now I have 10.9 and I have to select the name of the image and hit the spacebar to actually see it.. Is there a way to change this?

Hi,
I have no problems in seeing inline pictures sent from other computers or from my iPhone.
There is also no setting to view the pic when they are displayed as yours are.
However I sometimes see a chat displayed that way when reopened (File Menu > Recent Items) and also when the File Transfer has failed (clicking the spyglass opens the File Transfer window and double clicking there will sometimes display it in Preview).
I have seen one other post on this so far and do not have enough info yet to suggest a cause.

Preview and Pictures lost in my Aperture library after Leopard Upgrade :(((

So I was using Aperture 1.5.5 on Tiger 10.4.10 with bench of folders and pictures in it. I backup my Aperture Library file, and then reinstalled my whole system with Leopard, then reinstalled Aperture from original CD, then did the upgrade to 1.5.6 and then put back my Aperture Library from my backup.
Then I start Aperture and begin of bad surprises When I click on a picture, it displays just one instant the preview of it, then I got a marroon background with and text that says (I translate as it's in french on my computer): Picture format not managed !! What does it mean ?? all these pictures opened smoothly with previous version of Aperture on TIger !!!
If I do a right click on that, picture displays correctly !!!!
Also something bad, I have some folders which contained bunch of pictures where I can see in list on left correct number of pictures, but when I select it, it looks empty (I have checked by hand in Aperture Library files and pictures are still there !!
What's wrong ? I must confess I'm pretty disappointed by how Apple manage migration to Leopard of that program where update to make it fully Leopard compatible is released just day of release of Leopard

have you double-checked that Aperture uses the correct library (in Preferences) ?
Did you try pulling the Aperture prefs over from your backup also ?
And did you try a rebuild (depressing Cmd and Option during Aperture startup until the message comes up, choose Rebuild now, get a Coffee).
Note:
Even if all your images are referenced it's a good idea to use a Vault, as it backs up the structure (not the referenced images, of course).
Also ranting doesn't help getting answers. Asking a straight question is best, OK ?
I, like you, did a clean install and everything works just fine (everything, nor just Aperture).

Preview 4.0 Selection Bug!

Try this. Open an image up in Preview 4.0. Zoom into it a lot. Make a selection, then try using the Move tool to move around the image. Your selection disappears! See?
From what I understand, you can't use the Move tool while you have a Selection made. This makes it awkward to move across an image in the middle of making a selection. So basically you're forced to use the scroll bars if you're zoomed into an image while making a selection.
Is this a bug, or just bad design? Imagine if Photoshop didn't let you use the Move tool while having a Selection.

My biggest problem in preview 4.0 is it freezes while trying to view large images across four apple LCD's. Sometimes I see a gray screen.

How can I fix this in preview? (picture)

This is a screenshot (command+shift+4) of the preview application. Simple picture of a killer whale but there are those grey horizontal lines that appear and reappear as I zoom in and out. If I don't zoom in or out and leave it still, it looks just as the picture is posted with the lines. How do I fix this? It doesnt cause any performance issues but it is just annoying. Retina display to see grey lines?

If you can capture it in a screenshot, it is in the display Buffer, not in the display.
Your repair should come with at least a 90-day warranty. It does not happen often, but sometimes the parts are bad, or they fail quickly once in service. Take it back to the repair center for further repairs (but they should cover them, not you).
It is very, very unusual for this kind of screen artifacts to be caused by software. I have never seen a case where it was. There are a few characteristically software-based problems, but these are generally smaller repeating boxes of one part of the screen overdrawn in a completely regular pattern across the entire screen.
Some of these MacBooks use display-buffer-shared with Main memory when using integrated graphics. It is possible you have a mis-diagnosed RAM problem.

IPhoto for iOS : Impossible to delete modified pictures ! Bug ?

Hi everyone,
Just downloaded iPhoto for iOS yesterday. Amazing apps except for one thing.
It seems that it's impossible to delete a modified picture and the modified pictures album !
I even tried to delete the original one in the Photos app but now I can't see my original (which is fine) but I'm still seeing the modified version !
Do I really need to delete the app and reinstall it in order to delete the picture ?

Couple of questions if so :
-> every time I make a change to a picture there's the "modified pictures" album that gets created. If I delete the original picture, the modified one stays here forever even if I revert to original. Impossible to delete ?
-> I you only have one picture in your library and you hide it, it's impossible to acces it again. I had to take another picture to show the first one ! It's not a bug ?

BBM / Picture Swipe Bug Z10

See if anyone can reproduce this UI bug:
1. Take a picture.
2. Share the picture using BBM.
3. After sending the picture is complete, I can't return to the picture without long-pressing the space key. Just swiping right bounces back at the right side of the screen.

This does not appear to be an issue with 10.1 version of the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone software.
You should be able to address this issue if and when your mobile service provider make this version available.

Iphoto problems, doble preview of pictures

I have newly imported my photo library into my new mac pro. However, when I open Iphoto to look at photos, either in events or on photos, they (the thumbernail/preview) briefly show a totally different picture than the original!
F.eks if I scrol down the events page, the thumbernail previews a totally different picture form the gallery for about a split second, befor it swaps ofer to the correct one.
This happen both when scrolling in events and every where else.
If I then open a event and flock from picture from picture, the slidestrip underneeth shows totally different pictures and the one abow. What can I do with this?

If pictures in your iPhoto library are not displaying the correct thumbnails, I suggest using the Photo Library First Aid menu to rebuild your iPhoto library thumbnails.
Before troubleshooting, it is a very good idea to back up your iPhoto library.
Important:
You should back up your existing iPhoto Library before using the rebuild feature. A backup allows you to restore the iPhoto Library if anything unexpected happens during the rebuild that prevents the library from rebuilding correctly.
Before performing a rebuild, you should install any iPhoto updates by using Software Update. If a software update resolves your issue, then you don't need to rebuild.

Once your iPhoto library is backed up, follow these steps to use iPhoto Library First Aid:
To rebuild the iPhoto library:
Quit iPhoto if it is open.

Keep the keys held down until you are prompted to rebuild the library.
A dialog will appear with rebuild options.
Choose Rebuild Thumbnails.
