Preview - Remember Window Position

If I move my finder window, resize it, then close the window Mac OS X remembers this position and next time I open a finder window it opens to that position and size.  How can I do the same with Preview?

that is really a missing feature and there are still many apps, that do not remember window size/position.
There are 2 little helpers available (and some others, this I have tested with 10.6), that at least reduce the extra effort to just pressing a keyboard shortcut, to move/resize the frontmost window.
In your case, it would so be possible to move/resize the Preview window to the right half of the screen.
--- ShiftIt: the totally free one:
http://code.google.com/p/shiftit/
it goes to the menu bar and does not have a dock icon.
It moves/resize to the 4 quarter screen's, the 4 half screen's and has maximize and center
--- SizeUp: free with "pay-me-reminder"
http://irradiatedsoftware.com/sizeup/
it goes to the menu bar and does not have a dock icon.
It has some more option and is spaces aware

  • Mail Not Remembering Window Position of Previous Session (again)

Everytime I relaunch Mail, I have to rearrange the viewer windows to the way that is most efficient to use them. Is there a way for Mail to remember window positions, and sort preferences for each viewer window?

Interestingly, Mail does seem to remember the window positions, in its com.apple.Mail.plist, but it isn't applying the remembered positions. I tried a few times, and on at least one try it got the positions correct. Could it be that if you quit, restart then quit and restart again it will have them right on the second restart?

  • Remembering windows positions when switching from/to dual screen display

    Hello,
Most of the time, a second LCD screen is plugged in my Macbook and configured as the main display. When I arrange the windows, I keep iTunes or my mail application maximized on the macbook screen and use the bigger external screen for all other windows.
If I unplug the external display, all the windows are of course moved to the laptop display. When I plug again the external screen, all the windows are moved to the external display. But I would like the iTunes and mail application to remain on the laptop screen.
Is there any utility to remember the windows positions and arrange them automatically when I switch from/to single/dual-screen display?
    Regards,
    Raph

Would DisplayWatcher do what you want? I came across this a couple of weeks ago but haven't had the chance to try it out yet.

Use gnome with a window manager that can do this. I don't think metacity can be configured (hardly at all) to do this. Consider integrating XFWM or one of the *box'es. When you've grown used to it, you'll thank me

  • Mail Not Remembering Window Position of Previous Session

Mail has started forgetting how its main window was sized when previously using the application.
When I open Mail, the window dimensions are like those for a small screen - not as previously sized.
Is this a known problem (could not find with discussion search) and is there a fix? Thanks!

  • InDesign CS6 Should Remember Window Position

InDesign CS6 should remember the position of your document window when you close and reopen it, as previous versions did.  It's really quite a nuisance to have to drag and resize the window every time I open a document.  Does anyone else miss this feature?

What exactly? User generated workspaces remember there settings. If they don't, you have a permmisions issue on your user folders and the prefs/ workspace files can't be saved. If you're referring to undocked windows being repositioned across multiple monitors, then that's outside Adobe's control and solely up to your graphics driver, which by defualt will always open all windows and sub-windows on teh primary monitor.

  • Remember window position

It's driving me crazy, that almost every time I open a session, the windows are arranged randomly over my 3 screens. And it's never the same. In a few occasions it remembers the positions.
    Please work out that but!
But meanwhile, does someone has an idea how to work around that bug?

NativeWindow.bounds ( or x and y for just the position).

  • Preview app WILL NOT retain window position

This one is annoying the s$@t out of me...I work on a two monitor set up (which I dont even believe is a factor)...but Preview is the only app that will not remember its position - in fact - every time I open a PDF, its position changes.... even when setting ALL PDF's to the center of my screen.. When I open it again a 2nd time, it is different. It is actually splitting between both of my screens (most on the left, some on the right)
I tried deleting the PLIST file for Preview, but it does not work...
    Anyone have any ideas?

I know exactly what you mean. I've been looking for a solution myself, as I have an unusual two-monitor setup. It seems to only be an issue when opening PDF's, like you mentioned. I've tried modifying PDFDocument.nib to change the initial starting location, but it doesn't seem to help, for some reason. If anyone is curious about what we're talking about, I took a screenshot:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not an Xfce problem, I'm using gnome with openbox and I get the same behavior since the update.
If I'm not mistaken it only happens with applications that have a system tray icon.
Hide Pidgin's buddy list in tray and then open it up again and the window forgets its previous position, same with Sonata.

  • Some programs won't remember window size and position

I have a couple programs, notably ComicNerd, that won't ever seems to remember window size or position from quit to restart. I can't seems to find any evidence other people are having the same problem with the program, so I assume it's something wrong with my computer. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this? Is there some permissions problem or something?

It's likely a corrupted Preference file
Look in your Users/Library/Preferences folder for  .plist file with ComicNerd in it and just move it to your desktop and restart the program/computer.
The preference file should rebuild itself, so look for it and if it's in the Preference folder then delete the one on the  desktop.
You also might want to run ALL the cleaning and maintenance aspects of the free OnyX and reboot.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
the Verify > preference (show only corrupted) should also help locate other corrupted .plist (Preference) files for similar action like you did above.

I have a similar problem, which could even be related.

Obviously I can't add extensions to help since there are almost no extensions compatible with FF 4.0 b2

  • CS5 not remembering last window position

I'm trying to get CS5 to remember the last window position (which is on my Cintiq) but it always defaults back to my main monitor on start up.  I've restored the default workspace which solved the problem at first, but now it refuses to remember the position again.  It's annoying having to reposition the window every time I relaunch Photoshop...
Has anyone else encountered this problem?  I don't have this issue with CS4.
    I'm using Vista 64.

Check your graphics card settings for application profiles. Such issues are 90% of the time related to window and dialog repositioning in the driver, not the app itself.

My wife loves her iPhone, but there's one thing that's very frustrating: Safari likes to format pages so that only a small portion fits on the screen, and you have to scroll left and right to read the text. If you use a "pinch" to shrink the window,
