Preview SaveAs png as Default

i am looking in Preferences and in Inspector and I am not finding a way to set the default file type for a SaveAs operation (or a Save I guess).
Is there a way to get Preview to save out as png so i am not constantly pulling down to png and/or opening to save tiff out as png.
ALSO, can anyone walk me through how I SAVE ALL out of Preview? I somehow always seem to be in a position of opening five documents and saving each out /individually/ when I would much rather do this (or change to png) all at once. right now if I select all docs and do Save it only saves the first in the multiple selection for some reason...
THANKS

Hi fane_j.
Thanks very much for this help.
I seem to be not thinking very well on this when i work in Preview. Can I please ask you for a follow up here as I try and muddle through in a way that makes sense?
Say I just scanned three documents and they are open in Preview. This is not any different from /opening/ three documents that are on my desktop as you describe AFAIK. Yes?
Then say I have rotated them or I have selected ALL of them and run a pulldown to File Size and changed ALL of them to a new pixel width. Now I have them just like I want them and I have edited all of them conveniently with a multiple select.
Then say I need these documents to be stored in another place - if for instance I simply want to periodically delete the scans that are no longer needed in my Scans folder - can I save all three of these to a new location? I know I can print them to pdf and put them in one file in a new location all at once (sort of since this is like four click-throughs...). I mean, can I run a SaveAs in a new location for all three?
And I guess I can't run a SaveAs > png for all three either?
I mean, this sort of breaks down for me because I end up modifying them nicely in terms of rotation or cropping or sizing or whatever and then I go to save them in a new location and I have to do this one by one by one and I don't even get the opportunity to give them a NEW name AFAIK. I have to then navigate in Finder to find the files and manually rename them.
Also, same thing for saving to png. Sort of a PITA because I have to go back and forth occassionally. Anyway, I wonder if I can just change the tiff to png in the file name and not have to save them out one by one by one if I have to get in there to rename them anyway...?
Can you help me figure out if I am missing something here in this workflow? it is a bit of a pain but I guess I should change my scans to png and then saving out to tiff would be the exception whereas png for me now seems to be the rule...
Regards and thanks,
Jon

    I'm using CS5 extended on a Mac and can't save png's. The program stops responding and I have to force quit.

  • Save for Web default folder in PSE 11

    On my Windows 7 system, in PSE 8 when I select Save for Web, it defaults to saving the image in a folder I chose that is separate from the one I used in Open.
    (Save and Save As default to the folder I opened the image from, and PSE 11 works the same way even though "Save As to Original Folder" is not checked in Edit | Preferences).
    But "Save for Web" also always defaults to the folder the image was opened from, even though I have started it in Admiinistrator mode and changed the destination.
    That worked to change the default file type from GIF to JPEG, but had no effect on the save-for-web default destination.
    Is there a way to set/change the save-for-web default folder in PSE 11?

    That makes sense, but it doesn't work for me in PSE11 (though PSE 8 is OK). I get the same result as yesterday, even after rebooting, which I hoped might clear any cached settings. With or without checking Save As to Original Folder, what happens is this:
    - Save to Web defaults to saving the image file in the source folder;
    - if I change the destination to my Web-images folder, that lasts until I close PSE 11, and not beyond;
    - when I start it up again, Save For Web defaults to the source folder (with or without Save As to Original Folder, and regardless of Run As Administrator.
    Looking at the folder   C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11
    I see that no files show a change in the last several days, so the setting must be elsewhere, in the registry or in C:\Users\... somewhere.  Hmmm..

  • Why can't I save camera raw defaults?

    I am currently unable to reset my camera raw defaults in CS5 (Camera raw 6.5).  When I click on "Save Camera Raw Defaults", the changes do not show up when I open up a new image using Adobe Bridge. I seem to be stuck with the changes I made some time ago. What could be happening?

    Camera Raw uses the same settings you used last time to open a file.  That's just the way it works.  The defaults you set will be used on any image you haven't opened before.
    In order to revert an image that's been opened before to the new defaults, you need to do one of the following:
    1.  Choose Camera Raw Defaults from the menu:
    2.  Depending on how you have configured Camera Raw to remember your past settings, either delete the sidecar XMP files or go into Edit - Preferences - Camera Raw... and purge your Camera Raw cache if you'd like to throw away all previous settings and have future opens use your new defaults.

  • Why does Preview save as PDF version 1.3 instead of version 1.7 sometimes?

    I've noticed something very strange in Mountain Lion when saving a downloaded PDF in Preview.  If I download a PDF to my downloads folder and open it in Preview and get info it says it's PDF version 1.7 and it's about 400 kb . If I then "save as" to my folder it saves it as PDF version 1.3 in a much smaller file save  82 kb.
    Why is this happening when I use "save as" rather than just dragging and dropping it from my downloads folder to another folder where it keeps it as version 1.7 and 400 kb ?
    Why would Preview save it as version 1.3 instead of the latest version of PDF - very odd?
    Thanks

    Etresoft - that doesn't seem right - are you sure that Mac's only option is to save a PDF v. 1.3 when there are PDFs that are already at v. 1.7?
    I was sure, but I was wrong. Upon closer inspection, the "%PDF-1.3" you see in the PDF isn't the whole story. The actual version can be specified elsewhere. It seems Mavericks actually generates PDF version 1.4. Of course, that's not much difference, is it?
    Generally, I think Apple is aiming for cross-platform support with the widest audience instead of all the advanced features that Adobe wants to throw in. Apple views PDF as legacy print technology. If you need more than what Apple provides, you can always buy Acrobat.
    Here is an old marketing flyer from Adobe showing how much more you would get with Acrobat. It is from the Tiger era but you can see there is a whole lot that isn't implemented. But if you bought Acrobat, you would be in the position Apple doesn't want. You would create and send people PDF 1.7 files and they wouldn't be able to read them. What do you do? Tell them to buy Acrobat? It is a common theme here in Apple Support Communities whenever a new OS version arrives. People everywhere suddenly can't print, read PDFs, or do just about anything PDF related. That is because they had previously download Acrobat and it breaks with each OS update.

  • Can't open or save png files

    Hi, I'm very new to fireworks and since I installed it 4
    weeks ago I can't save or open png files. An error message appears
    stating An internal error occurred. I've read through other posts
    and because fonts kept coming up It needed doing anyway, I ran a
    clean install of my os, still no luck. All other file types are
    fine.
    Mac G5 - 10.4.9 running studio 8
    Any help with this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    My OS is 10.4.11. on 2 GHz Intel iMac.
    I reread my orignial post and noticed a typo. I can save png's with PS "save for the web," but can't open those just-saved png files.
    I did lots of things before I noticed that the png wasn't working. Don't know which may have caused a problem. Likely things? Well, I added a plugin for Ico. format. I deleted it because I thought it might have caused the conflict.
    Assuming that was the problem, what can I do to restore the png file format?
    I don't have disk warrior. I did run the maintenance utility yesterday. It runs crons, clears caches, deletes cookies, that kind of stuff.
    I've never had a problem with it disabling plugins or causing any problems. Haven't run disk utility for a few weeks. Would that help?
    I didn't download the replace png plugin from Adobe, but the original wasn't working anyway. I looked for a backup on the exernal drive, didn't find one, and downloaded another.
    Next, I did a Photoshop reinstall thinking that might fix the problem, but it didn't.  Which plugin folder should the png plugin be place in. I've never been sure why there are two format folders;  the folder in plugins, and the folder in Photoshop only.

  • .png files open in browser even though I have set prefs for .png files to "Always ask" instead. How fo I force Firefox to save .pngs and not open in browser?

    Forefox will not download or ask me to save .png files even though I set that file extension in Prefs -> Applications dialog box to be "Always ask"
    I have to be able to donwload and save .png files and I can't do that if they load in a browser window.

    I find it odd that the browsers on the Android platform can't support this on their own. I know that Google Chrome on it's full blown version for the PC is able to do so without using the Adobe software for the embedded PDF aka using "The Adobe PDF Link Helper" . I would love to see this change especially since I prefer Firefox over other browsers.

  • Preview images in Finder (default opened by Preview) gone

    Since a couple of days the preview of images default opened by Preview are gone.
    Preview of files/images that are default opened by other programs are still there.
    I tried one of the answers in the (unanswered) topics where it was suggested to delete the com.apple.finder.plist file, but this doesn't help.
    I think this change has occurred after I installed the "Panorama maker 4" program that came with a Nikon Coolpix camera. This program can "stitch" together a number of panoramically made shots, so it is made to meddle with JPEG files. Also the installation procedure is very un-Apple-like and un-OS X-like.
    Of course removing this program does not help.
    Any suggestions on what might be wrong, or how to recreate the preview?

    You should be able to restore Preview as being the default to open JPG files by opening Finder then choosing a folder with JPG files in it. Select one of them and right click (Option + Click) and select "Open With" then select "Other". Navigate to the Preview Application and select it (click once), then click on the "Always Open With" checkbox (lower left of the dialog box) then click on the Open button.

  • JSX Save PNG for web, quality parameter not changing file size

    Hi
    I have a script that uses this snippet of code to save png files for web. But, no matter what number I change the quality, the resulting file size and image fidelity remains the same.
    I was wondering if I can save pngs for web at smaller byte size with JSX and how to modify the output settings.
    docName = sourceDoc.name;
    NamesaveRef = new File( outputFolder + "/" + docName );
    var NewfileRef = new File( NamesaveRef )
    var options = new ExportOptionsSaveForWeb();
    options.format = SaveDocumentType.PNG;
    options.transparency = true;
    options.blur = 0.0 ;
    options.includeProfile = false ;
    options.interlaced = false ;
    options.optimized = true ;
    options.quality = 3 ;//THIS NUMBER DOES NOT CHANGE QUALITY IF CHANGED FROM 0.1 TO 100
    options.PNG8 = false ;
    sourceDoc.exportDocument(File( NamesaveRef), ExportType.SAVEFORWEB, options);
    app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
    Thanks for your help.
    Aubrey

    PNG does not have a quality setting. The quality property is used when exporting jpeg. That is why changing that property has no effect with PNG files.
    Photoshop now supports PNG compression but as far as I can tell you have to use Action Manager to save. I don't see a compression option when using saveForWeb.

  • Titles/Captions in Dutch remain in "Preview", but disappear (become defaults in English) after "Publish to Devices".

    In my project all (sub)titles and captions (in Dutch) remain in "Preview", but disappear (become defaults in English) after "Publish for Devices".
    How can I solve this?

    Beste Lieve,
    Cache geleegd, zonder dat er een project was geopend. CP vervolgens afgesloten.
    Daarna in de map Utils de batch-file CleanPreferencesWin.bat gestart. Vervolgens CP weer gestart.

  • Iphoto not accepting jpeg images saved using Preview "save as"

    I have a number of tiff images on my desktop. Am trying to save them as jpeg images directly into iPhoto using the Preview "save as" function. When I do this, I can find no image in iPhoto. When I "save as" jpeg to my desktop, the jpeg image appears there and I can drag to iPhoto, but this is laborious compared with saving directly. Can anyone help me with this?

    TD, thanks for commenting on this, and I think I see your point--I used the wrong term when I wrote "import". However, in Preview there is what I see to be a "save as jpeg to iPhoto" option. Why is this available if it does not work? Or to take it from another angle--what can you do with this option? In the end, I guess my basic question is: Is there a more direct way to get tiff images into iPhoto from the desktop than saving them first to the desktop as jpeg? Apologies for piling question on question.

  • Save For Web Default Settings

    I need to compress about 1,000 jpg images and I'm using the "save for web" feature in Photoshop 7 but I'm running into problems because my file names are very long and its cutting them off. I found the workaround by editing the output settings and unchecking the "Mac OS" box under "Filename Compatibility". However, the problem is that the default settings do not stay like this once I hit OK and I end up having to uncheck the Mac OS box for each and every file. Is there a way to permanently change the default settings so I can do batch processing for all my images? Thanks!

    Look in:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Presets\Optimized Output Settings
    for the Default Settings.iros.
    If it's gone look in:
    C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Presets\Optimized Output Settings
    (i think a reinstall is required to get back that preset if it's gone and you want the default)
    As far as i can tell you would have to save a new Default Settings.iros to make ps 7 use the custom file compatibilty settings all the time.
    You could save a new setting named Default Settings.iros to your desktop and then copy it to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Presets\Optimized Output Settings

  • Can't save png extension anymore, Save As Type is blank, already reset and uninstalled?

    Before I was able to Right Click > Save Image As and it would give me the extensions as a drop down menu.
    Now it shows a blank Save As dropdown bar if I try to save .pngs, and the only other thing I can select is Save As > All Type. I already tried a full uninstall, resetting firefox and starting in Safe Mode and they all have this issue. IE can download .pngs no problem.
    Everything was working since yesterday.
