Preview saves blank black images

When editing (mostly cropping) an image and saving it, some of my jpg images come out completely black. Not all of them turn out this way, but I noticed if I crop certain parts, they don't become a black canvas. Is the file corrupt or Preview just being wacky?

Unfortunately, I ran Software Update and also referenced the HP site to determine the driver for Lion. My driver is up-to-date and no software updates are available.
I am going to keep researching.

Scanned documents from preview yield blank/black pdf

I have just upgraded laptops and operating systems moving from Snow Leopard to Lion. I am attempting to scan text documents using Preview in Lion as I had done before using Snow Leopard. I am using the same printer/copier/scanner, HP Photosmart C5280, but am encountering different results. When I scanned documents from my previous MacBook using Snow Leopard, I achieved the desired pdf document results. However, when I scan the same document using my new MacBook Air and OS X Lion, the document saves as a blank/black pdf. Does anyone have any idea why this is occurring?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Why does USB Snap.vi return a black image?

I am using the USB camera drivers/tools to perform a snap acquire with a Logitech Quick Cam Chat. If I use the Snap.vi example file in LabVIEW 7.1\examples\IMAQ\imaqUSB examples.llb I get a blank (black) image. But if I add a for loop in the first frame of the sequence around the snap function and do about 5 iterations before outputing the image to a display everything seems fine. It seems that i need to do at least 4-5 iterations to get a clean image. I would like to know whay I can't just do a single snap iteration.

IMAQdx Snap is included in the Vision Acquisition Software package (the $400 version I mentioned previously).
There is a very old KB article that references a list of all the VIs in the package. The better way to find that list is in the help files:

Iphoto not accepting jpeg images saved using Preview "save as"

I have a number of tiff images on my desktop. Am trying to save them as jpeg images directly into iPhoto using the Preview "save as" function. When I do this, I can find no image in iPhoto. When I "save as" jpeg to my desktop, the jpeg image appears there and I can drag to iPhoto, but this is laborious compared with saving directly. Can anyone help me with this?

TD, thanks for commenting on this, and I think I see your point--I used the wrong term when I wrote "import". However, in Preview there is what I see to be a "save as jpeg to iPhoto" option. Why is this available if it does not work? Or to take it from another angle--what can you do with this option? In the end, I guess my basic question is: Is there a more direct way to get tiff images into iPhoto from the desktop than saving them first to the desktop as jpeg? Apologies for piling question on question.

Save as disc image to blank DVD

If I was to save a disc image on a blank DVD, can I still use it the disc image for the future to burn a new DVD for friends and family. I also like to use the disc image as a backup. Will this work for me.

Top Site previews are blank or black. Why?

I have reset Safari and emptied the cache. My top sites were then pages Safari already had loaded. I have my own top sites saved, but they are blank black screens. It has never done this. Please help! Thanks for your responses.

If you selected, "Reset TopSites" from the Safari > Reset window, that automatically deletes all the previews.
You may need to re add the sites back in again > How to manage Safari's Top Sites
If you have problems adding sites to TopSites, open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
~/Library/Safari
Click Go
Move the TopSites.plist file from the Safari folder to the Trash.
See if that made a difference...

Reduce File Size in Acrobat Pro (9.5.5) Corrupts Graphics in PDF Documents - shows up as black image

Whenever I use Reduce File Size in Acrobat Pro (9.5.5), sometimes some of the images (not all) get corrupted and show up as a black image in the new document.
Actually, the new reduced document looks okay when viewed in Acrobat, but the problem shows up when viewed in the Preview application on the Mac.
I'm using Acrobat 9.5.5 with Mac OS 10.8.6
I've tried re-importing the graphic into a new graphic box, which didn't work. Thinking there may be some type of corruption with the actual graphic file, I then tried viewing the graphic, then taking a screenshot of it to create a completely new file, and then re-importing the new graphic file into the original document (created in Adobe In Design 5.0.4). I then export the new document as a pdf, and brought it into Acrobat Pro to do the Reduce File Size. Same thing happens - black box appears where the graphic was.
I then tried using the Reduce File Size within the Save As function of the Preview application on the Mac - while the graphic remains intact, many of the other graphics in the document are "reduced" too much, to the point where the image quality is seriously degraded, and therefore not usable.
Any other ideas?

If you are running Mac OS X 10.7.3 then you have Lion installed, not Snow Leopard. It's probably not important to this discussion, but something you should be aware of.
What application are you printing the PDF files from? Have you tried opening the PDF file using the Preview application that can be found in the Applications folder? Does the issue still occur? Have you tried other PDF files from a different source?
Another poster in the following discussion thread reported that this method resolved their black blank PDF issue when viewing (and presumably printing) PDF files from Safari.

There's a solution if you want to see the PDF inside Safari's window :
Go to the folder : Your Hard Drive / Library / Internet Plug-ins.
If you see a file with PDF in its name drag it to the trash.
Quit and restart Safari to test with a PDF.
If it works you can empty the trash.

Encore CS4 asset import creates black images

Running Encore CS4 on Win 7 32-bit; 4GB RAM, Radeon 7750 graphics
If I do an Import of assets, namely a bunch of standard, out of camera jpegs, about 2.5-4MB in size, then CS4 imports them but anywhere from 10-100% of them will just be black images.
Only solution I've found is to clear out the bad ones, save, close project, re-open project, re-import. Sometimes you can only import them one at a time without going through a close/open project step. Just clearing the image and trying to re-import without closing the project never works.
Worse - after re-opneing the project, sometimes some of the 'good' images have gone black and have to be re-imported.
Never had this problem with Encore 2.0.
Not having this problem with Encore CS3, but a CS3 project opened in CS4 also displays a bunch of black images which were OK in CS3.
So 2 questions
- anybody seen CS4 being so stupid as this? and have a real fix? (as it took me 4 hours to add 60 images yesterday, which is ridiculous)
- given CS3 seems to work (and opens projects much faster), is ther any downside to staying on CS3?

IPHONE 5: Saving images to camera roll from an email results in a black image

I have emailed myself a couple images (medium res .jpgs) and when I open the email the colors are overly bright. When I then go to save them, they save as a very dark black image with a little bit of a blue outline of the image. Anyone know what the problem is? Thanks in advance!
PS these images are illustrations I have made in illustrator/photoshop. Not sure if that matters though.

Depending on the format of the video you may or may not be able to do this.
If its a supported format, like m4v or similar, you can tap and hold on the icon in the email and a box with options should pop up. One of them being "Save Video". This will save the video to the camera roll.
If you don't have the "Save Video " option you will not be able to save it your camera roll, but still might be able to save it to an App that can play the video by tapping the icon for the App in that same screen.

How to Change the color of the black image

I have created a black image. But want to insert some text and chnage the color of the same. I am trying to do it, by usign various classes of javax.imageio.*, java.awt.image. But, I have not the required output till now. I am showing my code below. The image I created is totally black.

b) When you call set color that sets the drawing colour. But you aren't drawing anything. You can draw things with the methods of Graphics and Graphics2D. I suggest starting with fillRect

Black images in PSE9 organizer?

I recently scanned some old B&W prints to TIFF files but they only show as black images in PSE9 organizer although they appear normally in the editor. Files that don't appear are all less than 1Mb file size. Any suggestions about how to have these images appear properly in the organizer would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

If an image has been rotated in an application other than Photoshop Elements 9, update the thumbnail before printing or using the image in a creation to ensure that the images appear properly rotated. To update the thumbnail, select the image(s) and choose Update Thumbnail or Update Thumbnail for Selected Items in the Edit menu.
Some TIFF files and files that use uncommon color profiles may appear black or as generic thumbnails in the Organizer. To fix this, select the file, and choose File Export As New File(s). This will save the file with the supported set of file tags required by the Organizer to show the thumbnails.
Very large files appear with generic thumbnails. For example, panoramas created with Photomerge Panorama return multiple layers, which, when saved, creates very large files. To make thumbnails visible in the Organizer, consider saving panorama files as flattened JPEG images
Files that are not supported in the Organizer look like broken thumbnail icons. You can import these files by saving an album containing a file in an unsupported format, using the Photoshop Elements Editor, or importing files not supported by the Organizer, using Premiere Elements.

Preview.app not displaying images (jpegs)

Brand new Xserve running Server v10.6.6
When I open a PNG or JPG the image window in Preview is blank/grey. I can open the side tray and there is a thumbnail of the image.
I've tried deleting the prefs, running it in 32 mode, and force quitting the app. I see others with the issue and it seems an update fixes it but since this machine is running the latest version of the OS I'm not sure what else to try.

I too am having the same issue, I have also found that Images are also not displying in iPhoto, the thumbnails show up, but when i want to view the image it comes up with the standard background, nothing else.

The exemple "Light Image metter" is great but i can't save the colored
image screen of emission, when i save the output image, it's always in
black and white.

May be you can post a example, because i'm lost. When I right-click on my image indicator, i create a methode, then GetImage but the cluster is only a cluster of numeric (whitout image wire type)
