Preview Scrolling

This is a rather simple annoyance which I need to resolve quickly. With the text tool enabled, I can highlight text within a PDF.
My question is, how do I make preview scroll to the next page while I hold the left mouse button dragging it towards the bottom of the page?
Thanks

You can't. However, Preview->View->PDF Display->select 1-page continuous or 2-page coninuous. Now, select the text you want and if it's not everything you want, use the mouse to scroll down to the end, hold the SHIFT key, and click at the end. That should select everything from the beginning to the end. Alternatively, use the page down button, followed by SHIFT-click at the end.

• Preview(scroll+text+select+annotate)=dodgy Tools

Hullo :
I am experiencing a trivial but apparent infelicitous affliction within
the Preview application . This trouble would be related to (at this
point) to "Tools" . The Preview application uses 3 or 4 . The only one
I permitted the use of in viewing of most if not all images is the
Annotation tool . When reading other files I am allowed the full
range of manipulation of the window with the convenience of examining
the contents within . This is particularly useful for small print which
I need to make readable , facilated by expanding the image past the
size of the monitor . Occasionally jpg's or other image formats are
presented in tiny forms requiring this same expansion to be able to
make use of them . As you need to employ these same objects the
missing scroll and text tool are clearly an inconvenience . The question
then , if it is possible to explain , why these would be missing and then
how to adjust to life without them or better how put them back to work .
Thanks for idea's and explanations if you've got them , Frederick

I go to customize, but there is no Tool Mode icon. I took a screen shot of it, but I don't see a way to post it.
There are 17 icons available. Is that correct?
I was able to use command + 1 in a PDF like you said, though.

• Preview scroll effect

Hi,
Each time I apply scroll effects to an uploaded PNG image or other element (such as a text box or rectangle), it shows as the effect being applied in design mode, but neither the image nor the scroll effect appear in Preview Mode - even when I preview in browser. Same thing when I upload a file from Adobe Edge Animate - it shows in Design mode - but when I preview the website, the animation is not visible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi
Are you applying scroll to fill of object or the on the object itself ?
Please check the key position in relative to page length.
Thanks,

• Thumbnail Preview Scroller

I've been trying to create a thumbnail scroller for a week
now in AS3. There are many examples out there, but I'm not familiar
with AS3, and they load the images dynamiclly. I'm just starting
out with at the basics here. I created a scene with a block of
thumbnails, and a mask for them to display in. If the mouse is in
the top of the mask, the thumbnails scroll up, and if at the
bottom, the thumbnails scroll down. My sample code is below, and a
point in the right direction would be very much appreciated. Right
now, the thumbnails go down, but not up. And the motion is jerky,
and not fluid.
Here is what I have so far
Sample
mask = mask_mc
thumbnail block = panel_mc

Hi,
Check the implementation of the Thumbnail PlugIn that creates thumbnails of the data formats jpeg and gif and is included in the standard delivery.
The class you should check is com.sapportals.wcm.repository.manager.thumbnail.ResourceImageThumbnailPlugIn, you can find it here:
..\WEB-INF\portal\portalapps\com.sap.km.cm.repository.manager\private\lib\km.appl.repository.manager.thumbnail_core.jar
So implement similar plugin to support psd files.

• Enable "scrolling preview" behind the Crop Pages dialog box in Acrobat 9 ?

Hi everyone,
I want to be able to preview the crop marks (when you click on "Document" and choose "Crop Pages" or Shift+Ctrl+T) before actually cropping all the pages of my documents. When the crop tool dialog box is showing, you can see behind it the crop marks that look like guides. In Acrobat 5, you could scroll the pages even with the crop tool box showing in front of your pages. This way, you could see the crop marks or "guides" on all the pages. But, in version 9, when the crop box is showing, you can only see the crop marks on the page(s) you're working on. You can't scroll behind the box to see what the others pages look like with the crop marks. I've uploaded print screens to make myself a bit more clear (Acrobat 5 vs Acrobat 9) :
http://localhostr.com/files/0484a8/acro5vs9_crop.png
If someone knows a way to get the crop preview scrolling back, maybe with a plugin or Javascript, please let me know !
Thank you all for your help.
Paul B.

Can somebody please help me? Nothing I do seems to open up the "crop dialog box".
I start with Edit > Edit Text & Images. Then, I click the crop symbol, and set the ranges of my desired crop. Then I want to apply this crop, but nothing works.
I've tried:
- Double Clicking Inside the selected crop-box
- Double Clicking Outside the selected crop-box
- Triple Clicking
- Quadruple Clicking
- CTRL-SHIFT-T
- Hitting Enter
- Right clicking
- Searching endlessly for some sort of button pertaining to "apply crop", to no avail.
- Changing to different PDF type (scanned, instead of text-to-pdf) and trying again
- Yelling
- Punching
- Crying
None of the afforementioned seems to work.
Help please?

• Preview freeze when scrolling

Hi,
When I scroll the pdf in the Preview in Maverick, sometime It will freeze suddenly. And if I move the pointer out of the preview then move it back in, it works.
Does anybody know whats going on about this bug?
Sometimes its anoying.
Thanks.

I found a solution that has worked for me.
I found that under System Preferences -> Accessibility -> Mouse & Trackpad -> Trackpad Options, my "Scrolling" field was set to "without Inertia".
Switching that to "with Inertia" has fixed all my Preview scrolling woes. (I think that is the default setting for a new installation of OS X.) I don't particularly like the intertial scroll, but it clearly works much better than the "without inertia" scroll, which seems to fail in Preview right at the point in the algorithm when the inertial movement would normally be applied to the scrolling pane.

• Preview shows only one page of article

I have a 23-page portrait-only article for which I can preview only one page. Normally it is the first page, but if I click on any other page, the preview shows that page -- but the slider on the bottom of Content Viewer shows only the first page regardless of what page is in the preview window. I'm a newbie at this, and this is my second article; the first one worked just fine. Put them together in a folio, in either order, and the "normal" one shows all pages, and the other shows only page 1. Any thoughts?
Jose

Silly newbies... I read some of the layout options in Plain English. Apparently, if the article isn't set to "horizontal swipe only" it's on vertical swipe only, not "optional." The Aha! moment came from accidentally brushing the mouse so that the preview scrolled upward, revealing the pages hidden below. Now I get it.

• Scroll bars & creating buttons problem

I am trying to create a basic photo browser. The upper area is the enlarged view of the image. The lower portion is a scrollable view of the thumbnails in the directory chosen. I have most of it working...except that the scrollable view doesn't scroll, and the buttons that I created don't cause the image to show up in the main view port.
There is the main window, divided into two parts: upper and lower. The upper part is the main view, as described above. The lower part is a panel. That lower panel contains two things, another panel and a button. This panel inside the lower section contains the scrollable window; this scrollable window is a viewport onto another panel that contains the dynamically created buttons (which are thumbnails of the images in the directory).
I was trying to force the scrollbar policy to always show the horizontal bar (that is the only one I want visible) but that wasn't working either; I would get compiler errors when that was included. I have tried adjusting sizes of things, and the order that things are added to the main JFrame.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• Aperture Previews NOT Showing

I uploaded an album of 6 pics earlier today and as I was going to check the images, after I click them they appear on the large preview window for about a second before dissapearing.
I checked my older albums and they are all doing the same thing. I tried to drag a few of the images to my desktop and then preview them using "Preview" and that seems fine. Back in Aperture, the images all contain their own metadata and all show in the bottom preview (scroll/folder browser), it's only when I click on a pic that it shows on the larger above it window for one second or so before "dissapearing."
As you can see one of the images is highlighted yet it doesn't show up on the large preview. Metadata is all present.
First thing I did was to update from 3.2.3 to 3.2.4
I then restarted Aperture and held down "Command" + "Option" and have done all three options in the "Aperture Library First Aid" list:
Repair permissions
Repair Database
Rebuild Database
each time checking if the issue was resolved before restarting again and rebuilding/repairingwith the next option.
I finally removed my preferences folder from "~/Library/Application Support/Aperture" as per the troubleshoot guide. Checked the program and the issue still persists. I moved that file back to it's original directory to gain back my old preferance settings.
What now, anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried to remove the Aperture User Preferences, not the Presets/Preferences folder? If the GUI is behaving strangely, a broken "com.apple.Aperture.plist" file may be the reason.
- Quit Aperture and log out and log on again.
- In the Finder choose "Go to folder" from the "Go" menu.
- Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field. Press the Go button.
- Remove the "com.apple.Aperture.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
- Then lauch Aperture and check again.
The "Basic Troubleshooting" support article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805 does not mention the logon/logoff, but working with MacOS Lion it is essential to do so. Due to the changes in the Process System (Automatic Termination) you can never be sure if a program really terminates, when you make it quit, even if it looks terminated in the Dock. Only force quitting, logout, or shutdown will ensure that the program terminates. And since "force quitting" is not recommended for a database program, logoff is the next best option.

• PDF Scrolling in Safari

Pdfs scroll very badly in Safari. It is jerky, very sensitive, too fast. This has come up before in the Communities, but the solutions I've found either don't work or aren't relevant after OSX updates. In preview scrolling is well behaved. Any update solutions?
I am using a Magic Mouse on an iMac running OSX 10.9.1, Safari Version 7.0.1 (9537.73.11).
Same problem on a MBP (same setup).
Thanks

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

• Pdf file printing causes printer to reboot

Hello!
I got this nasty problem. I'm running OS X 10.9.5 on MBPro. I have HP LaserJet M1536dnf MFP (printer-scanner-fax-copier) connected over USB. All drivers and software installed and running ok. But. If I scan some document (with HP own utility) and save it to pdf file, through IRIS OCR to make it searchable, then open this pdf file with Preview, and it displays normally, then send it to the printer- it fails. The printer gets halted for about a minute, then it reboots. Like I power cycled it.
The scanned file behaves ok. It's not abnormally large in size - a few MB usually. I can open it with Preview, Scroll, save, etc. And the printer behaves ok with other documents- text files, images, others. But whenever I send a scanned pdf to printer- it fails.
I try to copy the file and print it being logged in under Administrator (I normally use non-admin user account for work). Same result. Below is extract from the printer error log.

I'd really appreciate any help. This thing is very annoying. Thanks!

OK, I understand borderless printing is not supported on plain paper, but I don't think a hard crash is an acceptable result.
I can live with the minimize margins turned on but that opens up another documented bug where the last line to line and a half are not printed on the last sheet in a print set, If you are only printing one sheet at a time than every sheet will be missing this print. Has HP come up with or even looked into why this is happening?

• Selecting Customer Report

Hi,
We are using customized customer transaction report developed in ABAP. When preview, the selected customeru2019s transaction report list comes out in one page, scroll down to see the next customer. On the list of customers the user wants to further filter by select only few customers and the selected customeru2019s report attach in PDF and sent to customer through email.
My question is what are the options include to select few customers when it was in preview mode?
Please suggest.

For example in the initial screen we need to give customer range let say 1 to 20, then execute the range 1 to 20 customers transaction report list was previewed, scroll down to see the next customer. In this stage i.e. preview stage the user wants to select only few customers let say 5, 7, 11, 16 and 19. Then only these selected customer report attach in PDF and send to customer through email.
How they can select when preview mode? And what are the options to select few customers?

• Error moving through large report

We have an ASP.NET 2.0 app with Crystal XI R2. When we try to move to the end of a large report, we get this message:
Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 17 ] Error in File C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\annproc {72FCA892-D200-4116-9D3E-BA22AEE7DD45}.rpt: Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 17 ]
Small reports work fine. We get the same error when we try to export the report to excel. Does anyone have any ideas for a workaround?

I believe KBase [1200141 - How to set the focus of the .NET Windows CrystalReportViewer so the report preview scrolls without clicking|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_erq/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes.do]. Unfortunately as I type this, there is something wrong with the search and I keep getting 403 errors. Below is the contents of the kbase:
*Symptom *
In Crystal Reports XI and XI R2 the report page view for a .NET Windows application will not scroll up/down with the mouse wheel.
*Cause *
This is the default behavior of the CrystalReportViewer control for .NET Windows applications but can be changed with some custom code.
*Resolution *
In order to fix this problem you must set the focus of the Windows application to the main report tab in the CrystalReportViewer control.
This action must be done in the parent form's Activated event. Below is some sample code that demonstrates how this can be accomplished.
// This is a member variable which allows us to set the focus on the first time the parent form is activated.
// The form is activated quite often and we only want to focus change to happen once.
bool m_bFirstTimeActivated = true;
private void Form1_Activated(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
if (m_bFirstTimeActivated)
// The CrystalReportViewer control is made up of 5 controls. The control in the first position is the PageView
// control and is the one that needs to be modified. The PageView contains a TabControl that allows us to
// have the main report and all subreports displayed as other tabs.
// We set the focus to the first tab in the collection so scrolling works automatically.
System.Windows.Forms.TabControl oTabControl = (System.Windows.Forms.TabControl) crystalReportViewer1.Controls[0].Controls[0];
oTabControl.TabPages[0].Focus();
m_bFirstTimeActivated = false;
