Preview thumbnails in Bridge CS4

After several years of being able to preview thumbnails in Bridge CS4, I can no longer do so.

Reset prefernces.   Hold down ctrl key, option on mac, and you should get a reset window.

Thank you! That was it. The option to change it is not available in preferences (though I believe it was in early CS versions). It's hidden in a dropdown menu associated with an icon at the top. It sure wasn't easy to find, and I probably would not have done so without your lead. Thanks again!

I've noticed that some InDesign CS2 and CS4 files do not show thumbnails in Bridge CS4. I tried the Build and Export Cache function in the Tools menu and nothing changed. Any suggestions?

  • Missing thumbnails in Bridge CS4

Can anyone explain why some of my .PSD thumbnails have gone missing from Bridge CS4? The files show as simply the PSD icon. These are large files (~200MB). If I highlight the files in a folder, right-click, and 'Purge cache for selection', the thumbnails immediately appear but then disappear one by one as the little wheel in bottom left corner of Bridge revolves and the number of full file extractions counts down. I've completely purged the cache via Bridge and in the cache folder by hand. In Bridge Preferences I've set the maximum file size at 3000MB. The odd thing is that thumbnails of similar size files disappear in some folders but not others. Some .TIF files have also disappeared. Smaller files (less than 100MB) seem ok. Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks.

Is there any chance that your cache file is too small to hold all the thumbnail data?  If so it could be erasing the large ones to make room for others.
Have to compacted the cache to get rid of orpan files?
Are you using quick or HQ thumbnails?  If memory  and speed are considerations try quick thumbs.

  • Images not previewing properly in Bridge CS4

I just did a reformat & reinstall of my whole system. I opened Bridge to get back to work and none of my images will preview accurately in Bridge. They just show as horizontal and vertical pixelated representations of the image. I did not have a problem with Bridge until after the reinstall. Anyone have any ideas?
System details: Dell Dimension 8250 (I know, it's a dionsaur, but it works...for now), Windows XP Pro SP3, 1.5gb ram, Intel P4 3.06GHz HT
    Thanks, Dana

    Hi Dana,
Which settings are you considering and what are the performance issues?
You can optimize for certain workflows that will adjust processor intensive work, such as only generating large previews when displayed. If you're strictly talking about video card accelerated features, I think it's more a matter of On or Off as opposed to performance tuning. I just did a quick look and with video card acceleration enabled, in Full Screen Preview you can pan the image at magnifications much smoother.

  • Problem with thumbnails in Bridge CS4

I was having a problem with Adobe Bridge crashing on me when I was looking at a large amount of images - like all my 2011 images. I'd read online that I needed to purge my cache and delete my preferences by holding down the ctrl key when starting Bridge and choosing all three options to "reset preferences", "purge entire thumbnail cache" and "reset standard workspace".
I did this, but it really did not solve my problem. I'm still working on that. It did create a problem that all my raw files show up without thumbnails, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to regenerate these thumbnails. I've tried downloading the camera raw plugin and installing that again and it does not help.
My raw files are from a Pentax K100d and are pef files.
I went back to some old photos, in my 2010 folder.  When it first came up it showed the thumbnail for just a brief moment.  It then went blank and then up popped that stupid little flower icon that I seen when there is no thumbnail.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you so much for your response.
I am running 64 bit Vista. I have CS4 and found that the latest version of Camera Raw that I could install was version 5.7.  I found the install instructions on the Adobe site.  As it told me to do, I downloaded the zip file for version 5.7 and extracted.  I moved the Camera Raw.8bi file from the top directory into C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS4\File Formats and moved the Camera Raw.8bi file from the Win64 folder into C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS4\File Formats.
Does this look right to you?
I can double-click on any of my raw "pef" files and I can edit them in Camera Raw, no problem.  I can also look at the "about Camera Raw" and see that it shows version 5.7.
    It just won't generate thumbnails.
This worked in the past.  What happened to mess things up is a long story.  I got a new camera, a Nikon D5100.  What I did not realize was that this camera was too new for CS4 to be able to recognize.  The updates that include this camera are only for CS5.  At some point after I got this camera and came home with a ton of vacation pictures - saved as Raw + Jpg (so I had a ton of photos) bridge started crashing.  I don't know if it was the size and or number of photos that I was trying to have visible in Bridge at one time or what.  I started Goggling what could be the problem.  I found one source say that I needed to reset the preferences and such and that I should start Bridge while holding the ctrl key and choose all three items to reset.  I did this and my thumbnails that were there for all my old photos shot with my Pentax k100d went away.  I just see a flower icon in their place.  I've not been able to get them back.  I have since moved all those big photo files to another folder and the crashing has stopped.  Now I just have the problem that I caused.
What bothers me is that I saw a post here in this forum that says to never use the "purge cache" option from the edit > preferences box in Bridge.  I can't find this post again.  I have done this also before I saw that.  I have also moved my cache to another location so that it had to create a new one. Still this does not work.  I've restarted Bridge, rebooted, "purged the cache for the selection" and "generate high quality thumbnail".  Nothing I've tried works.
Would reinstalling Bridge help?  Do I have to install all of Photoshop?  Do I have to uninstall first?

  • Thumbnails in Bridge CS4 run off the page

Using WinXP and CS4: Bridge displays as though the window is bigger than the monitor.  It's as if Bridge thinks the window (not the monitor) is wider than it is.  This happens weather or not the window is maximized.  The scroll bar at the right is not accessible.  I can switch between viewing modes, and the same problem exists in each mode (details, list, grid).  I have uninstalled and re-installed twice with no change.  The problem did not always exist, but I can't think of what is different to cause the problem.
The attached image is a full screen capture.
    Any help?

  • Macbook pro - no thumbnails in Bridge CS4

    Hello to you all,
I've just purchased a new MacBook Pro & Photoshop Elements 8.0. I have installed Elements & made sure I have got the latest updates. The Mac is running Mac OS X v 10.6.4
When I open up the bridge to organise my photos it shows "MacHD>users>me>pictures" and there are 3 folders in content Photo Booth, iChat & iPhoto library. If I try & access the iPhoto library to see contents it opens the iPhoto application and exits bridge.
I have checked with Apple support & they say the photos are actually in a folder labelled 'originals' and that the iPhoto icon I am seeing in content is the processing application that sits above the content files, not the folder which contains the photo's.
I have tried with Adobe support but they cannot fix the problem - their suggestion was to move all the photos to a folder on the desktop & access that. It did work but it will mean I'll have duplicate photos everywhere.
Has anyone else encountered the same problem and found a fix? Feel very frustrated at the moment as I have watched all the tutorials on the subject & searched the web without any success. Maybe it's just me!
    Here's hoping, Mark

You do understand that bridge is just a browser and not an asset management program like iphoto or organizer?
You would need to get your photos out of the iphoto library unless you are using a referenced library. In any case, you don't want to be using two different programs with two different keywording methods. You cannot use bridge on the iphoto library file itself, no, even if you don't care about losing the photos it contains.

  • Bridge CS4 5D Mark ii RAW preview.

I can't preview Raw thumbnails in Bridge cs4 from my 5d mark ii. I can open them but not preview them.  I installed plugin 5.3 update in the right place but no cigar. A year ago I had the same problem with another computer and I adjusted a slider which corrected everything.  I'm on a Mac os 10.8. Please help.

If there are no images on the hard-drive, do you mean you are you viewing old images off an external drive, then, or perhaps off the camera’s memory card in a card reader?
To simplify things, try using Finder to copy a brand-new 5D.2 image from a memory card to a newly created folder on your internal hard-drive and then look at it with Bridge and see what happens.  Also try flipping to high-quality thumbnails in Bridge.
Otherwise, someone with Mac experience may have to chime in, to confirm if a Mac version of Bridge has its own version of Camera Raw separate from Photoshop, with the possibility of only the PS one has been updated, somehow.  You could do a search of your entire hard-drive and see how many Camera Raw plug-ins you find and if their timestamps all match the most recent one you updated.   You could also do an Adobe Plug-Ins within Photoshop and see if there is more than one instance listed.  This happens if a new ACR is put into the wrong folder and PS still finds it during the initial plug-in scan.
If Adobe has a fix, then someone here likely knows what it is.
To confirm, your subject says RAW Preview, but you’re not able to see either thumbnails or the larger one-at-a-time previews, and the only thing that seems to work is when you choose Open in Camera Raw from w/in Bridge, you can see it and work with it.

  • Bridge CS4 Preview of NEF Files Doesn't Update

Somewhere along the line, this stopped working for me. I can click on a thumbnail in Bridge CS4 to edit the file in Camera Raw. After editing, the thumbnail in Bridge has that little icon with two triangles in the upper right showing that the file has been edited. However, the thumbnail does not update to show the edited version. It still looks as if unedited. How do I fix this? The ORF files from my Olympus camera update okay, so it seems to be an issue specifically with NEF. I am fully updated to Photoshop 11.0.1 and Camera Raw 5.6. Windows XP, Nikon D200.

Thank you! That was it. The option to change it is not available in preferences (though I believe it was in early CS versions). It's hidden in a dropdown menu associated with an icon at the top. It sure wasn't easy to find, and I probably would not have done so without your lead. Thanks again!

  • FFX file preview with Adobe Bridge

    Hello all,
I did post a similar thread in the Adobe Bridge Forum but I thought that possibly the AE comunity may understand my problem a little better.
I wanted to begin learning After Effects CS4, unfortunately Adobe Bridge CS4 is halting my education.
My approach to viewing the presets, I begin from within after effects, I click the drop down tool bar on the right hand side of the [effects & presets] panel, I then click browse presets
If I explore any kind of After effects CS4 preset, and preview it inside of Adobe bridge, my pc freezes. The preview window, within Bridge CS4 turns blank white while it freezes,
the Windows toolbar of Bridge CS4, says not responding temporarily, if a wait a little while around 30-45 seconds I regain control of my pc again, the preview box occasionally will show a still image and sometimes it will stay white or flickers. If I do wait the 30-45 seconds the toolbar window no longer says 'not responding' I can click to a (non) After effects preset folder, (for example) 'My family pictures' and it will operate normally but if I go back to the After effects CS4 presets again the freezing will occur once more.
What I find strange is that Adobe Bridge previewing, works absolutely fine for my photoshop documents, Illustrator documents, and any Jpeg photos I have, all after effect presets fail to preview, regardless of type if it's a still shape background or animated sprite, the same freeze issue occurs
I was wondering if anyone has helpful tips?
so far I have downloaded all important driver updates for my graphics card, my card is a nVidia GeForce 7900 GS 256, I have also reinstalled bridge and AfterEffects, I have downloaded the latest Quicktime player, I tried reinstalling it additionally.
I am a Windows vista user, also I have enough RAM I believe, just over 3 Giga
I dont know how useful the info is on my Pc spec is, but I thought it could be worth mentioning.
I have looked for a few hours to find some kind of thread with a solution, I have been unsuccessful, I hope someone can help.
    Kindest regards Julian

Hi Mylenium, thanks for sparing me some of your time.
I did as you said, within my QT panel, *GDI only* sadly had no positive effect from my perspective, the freezing occured as it has always
For future reference is this setting how I should have it normally, or should i put it back on DirectX accel?
any other thoughts on what the problem could be?
    regards Julian

  • Bridge CS4 has LONG delay in opening the first image

Photoshop CS4 upgrade was my Christmas present this year. I've been fighting this annoying "problem" ever since then...
I DO see this "problem" on my desktop PC, which is a Dell XPS-400 PC (with 2 GB of memory) running Windows XP (Media Center Edition) with SP3 installed. I DO NOT see this "problem" on my laptop, which is a Dell XPS-1530 (4 GB of memory) running Windows Vista SP1. I installed the Photoshop CS4 software exactly the same way on both machines, and I have the preferences set the same in both Photoshop and Bridge (and Camera Raw) on both machines.
Here's the situation: I first open Photoshop CS4 and then click on the Bridge icon in the Application Bar to open Bridge. When I use Bridge to open a photo, by either double-clicking the thumbnail, or right-clicking on the thumbnail and choose "Open" from the context menu, there is a 42 second delay before Photoshop opens the file. This long delay only occurs when opening the very first file.
Once that first image file is opened, double-clicking any thumbnail in Bridge will have it open in Photoshop CS4 in about 2 seconds. There will never be another long delay in having Bridge pass a file to Photoshop (or Camera Raw) again - until I close the applications and restart them. Once I restart the applications, the first photo takes 42 seconds to open....
This delay does not occur in opening the first image file if I right-click on the thumbnail in Bridge CS4 and choose "Open With" and manually choose Photoshop CS4.
Even if that is how I open the first (or several) image file(s), the first time I try to open a file from Bridge by double-clicking on a thumbnail (or right-click on a thumbnail and choose "Open") there will be that annoying 42 second delay before it opens.
It does not matter what the file format the first image file is (JPG, PSD, TIFF, or DNG), or what the file format of any subsequent image file is. As long as I do not close the Bridge and Photoshop applications, any subsequent file will be passed from Bridge to Photoshop in only a couple of seconds.
I have manually set the File Name Extensions in Windows XP, and in the Preferences in Bridge. Both have been set to open the file types listed above with Photoshop CS4.
I have uninstalled CS4, and have used two seperate Registry cleaners (CCleaner and jv16 Power Tools) before re-installing Photoshop CS4. This had no effect on this situation. I've run "chkdsk C: /r" several times, with no problems reported.
I have been searching through these forums for over 2 weeks now, and I have not seen anyone else report such a problem. I use my XP desktop much more than my Vista laptop, so I'd really like to fix this situation, but I don't know what else to try.
    Gregg Mack

    Don,
Thanks for all of your suggestions. I tried them all, but the problem remains exactly as it was. To properly document my efforts:
In Bridge's Preferences, I Purged and Compacted the Bridge Cache, then changed it's location to D:\Bridge_Cache (D:\ is a second physical internal SATA drive).
I can not tell the exact size the Cache is set to, but the slider in Bridge's Preference is very close to the left end (10,000) of the slider.
The Windows Page File is set to 3072 MB min and 4096 max, and it is entirely on the D:\ drive. (I have 2GB of physical RAM in the PC.)
I defragmented the C:\ drive using Diskeeper 2008 Pro Premier, and even ran a Boot Time Defrag.
Rather than set some exclusions for Norton Anti-Virus, I jsut disbled that Virus checking program for all of my experiments.
I deleted the Bridge Preference File by holding down the Ctrl key as Bridge was restarted.
I even deleted the entire contents of the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. I then rebooted the PC - twice. I then re-disabled Norton Anti-Virus.
The PC is approaching 3 years of age, but it is a 3.2 GHz Pentium D machine with 2 GB of RAM and two internal SATA drives. Every other application that I run on this machine responds reponsively. Again it is only the FIRST image file that I have Bridge hand off to Photoshop (or Camera Raw) that takes forever. The second and subsequent image files take a second or two.... That doesn't sound like it's an "old hardware" problem to me.
I'm willing to try anything else that you, or anyone else would like to suggest.
    Thanks
    Gregg Mack

  • Bridge CS4 image Previews are too small

In Bridge CS4 I cannot get the preview images to display anything larger than a large thumbnail view, see image below.  I have tried all of the Preferences in Edit menu (e.g. Thumbnail: do not process files larger than set to 10,000 MB, cache options are keep 100% previews in cache checked/automatically export cache to folders when possible checked/cache size slider is set to 50%, software render has been checked/unchecked/generate monitor size previews checked).  None of these options change anything for the size of the image preview.  I have a DX10.1 ATI Radeon HD4890 XOC 1GB, so my video card is not the issue.  I am running Windows 7 Ult x64 on ASUS P8P67 Deluxe with 16GB RAM and over 2 TB of HDD space. So my system should not be an issue either.  These are Sample artwork images that were installed with Illustrator cs4.  How do i increase the size of these images?
Also, these images are showing everything in the ai image, not the individual images in each ai file.  How do i get it to show the individual images in each AI file like they were separate images, like Illustrator?

Actually, you just solved both of my problems with your question.  I never thought about how the images were created/saved.
It turns out that for some reason when i re-save the images as version CS4 of course and all options selected in dialog box now the images act correctly and resize accordingly when the separator is moved and will get quite large as they should.
I also had to use my mouse and select each artboard/image inside the file then re-saved with same settings as above to get multiple images to show up with the buttons at bottom of image in preview mode.  Now all is good.
These are the default installed sample artwork images.  Not sure why they were like this, may have been some kind of format/process error. Thanks a lot Curt Y.

  • Raw and TIFF Thumbnails Not Showing in Bridge CS4

    Hi,
I just bought Photoshop CS4 and installed.  I got an installation error and had to remove and reinstall CS4 (and ran the Mac Cleanup Utility in between).  Then, CS4 installed successfully.
Now, when I fire up Bridge CS4, I can preview JPG files, but not TIFF or RAW (*.NEF format from my D200) files.
Has this happened to anyone else and is there a fix I can apply?  I have installed known updates for CS4 and have purged the cache.
I have tried searching adobe and the online communities for this issue, but haven't been able to locate it.  The problem also applies to *.PSD documents.  I have also tried Tools>Cache>Purge Cach for Folder xxx and this doesn't fix things.
Thanks in advance for your advice!!!

    OK, I'm back already.
The bug was easily and instantly reproduced just as I wrote earlier:

Pixel Dimensions and Color Profile, respectively. I then invoked the

Thank goodness I had disconnected the FW drives.
I then went again and repeated the procedure one more time. The
Date Created line was again immediately left blank under all
    thumbnails.
    As far as I'm concerned,
the Global Purge cache command in Bridge Preferences in CS4 is broken
, just as it was in CS3 at least until someone tells me how to stop this from happening, reliably and consistently.
