Preview tiff

J'ai un problème avec le preview de mes tiff récemment ?  Je ne vois pas mes previews ni dans le finder ni dans bridge 6 ?
Mac OsX 10.8.5 / Adobe CC up to date

Bonjour,

  • Unable to Preview TIFF images

I used to be able to in earlier releases of 10.4. By that I mean I could click on the icon for a TIFF file and it would open up in Preview.
Then at some point on, with all the various updates etc, I could no longer preview TIFF files. I did post about this problem a long time ago and the final consensus was to re-install. This I have now done but still cannot preview TIFF files.

I am having a similar problem with some of the TIFF files I created using Microsoft Document Imaging on my Windows-based PC.
I get the same message from Preview ("Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize.") The files will not open in Preview, iPhoto, or Quicktime. I don't have Photoshop.
Some of the files I created WILL open in Preview, some will open with missing pages, and some will not open at all (generating an error message in each of the three programs I have tried).
I would appreciate any ideas....my plan is to go back to Windows and start re-saving the images in another format since I would like to move totally to Mac soon.

  • 2 Questions: 1-Preview TIFFs  2-Typing in a different language

Two completely different questions, but i didn't want to take up unnessisary room on the forum.
    1: Previewing TIFF files.
At the moment, all TIFF file open with Photoshop. However, when i right-click them, and goto Preview, it still opens with Photoshop. So my question is, how do i set TIFF files to still open with Photoshop, but Preview with Windows Fax Viewer?
2: Just a random thought, but is it possible to type in another language in Photoshop? So, say if i used a chinese font, it would assign each key on the keyboard to the Chinese equivilant. Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    Ricky

I've been looking around and it seems impossible now???
Although i didn't find your way of doing it, so i did that, and now whenever i click preview, it asks me if i want to "Download" it?? And if i say yes, it opens in Photoshop again.
Where is the "Recommended programs" option? I dont have it. Are you using XP? or Vista?
    EDIT:
Found out how. As the Application used to preview, you have to put in
    "rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen"1%"
I'm not sure why, but it works. Thanks for the help people!

  • Preview tiff distortion

Am having a problem with Preview. I process large size film scans in tiff format in Aperture. When I export these images and view them in Preview they appear distorted (huge snowy grain/noise distortion). I have figured out that this is a scaling problem specific to Preview--the distortion goes away if I zoom in to 100%. I am relieved that the data of these files is fine--it seems only to be a rendering issue. But this is still problematic, as these images are often larger than three feet wide at native resolution, so I frequently need to view them smaller than 100%. They display fine in Aperture and Photoshop, but I need to be able to open them for simple viewing purposes without using one of these behemoth applications. Only tiff files are affected, by the way. jpegs display fine. Anyone else have this issue? A solution?

Elsewhere, over the past few years, I have read of a similar situation to
the one you mention regarding the distortion in larger image file types.
Not sure if there is a cure in the newest OS X version.
You may be able to use a freeware or low cost image editing software
to view images and do secondary minor adjustments for other projects.
Have you looked into the fairly nice (esp to those who don't need to own
or use photoshop and other advanced tools all the time) more simple app
by the name of ToyViewer? It may offer a few options outside of Preview's.
    • ToyViewer for Mac OS X:

    While this does not answer your initial question, it may provide another tool;
such as GraphicConverter has a niche place among other purpose tools.
And it also does some things without the bulk of a larger app, too.
    • GraphicConverter:

    The issue you face with Aperture may be one to address to Apple bug reports;
though it is likely to have been reported. It previously was discussed online. If
there is a lesser preview-capable tool that could do some aspect of the task &
not add more effort into the process, that would be a good thing.
Some digital image creators who make and edit their work, can do fine with an
even lighter software set, and create significant works of large file size in high
quality. Even something as comparatively simple as Color-IT® can do miracles.
Hopefully the issues will have a reasonably fine resolution.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Preview Printing Negative Images - White text and lines on black background

Desperate for help here. After upgrading to Tiger, I have more instances when Preview displays a PDF correctly but prints certain pages with images, such as graphs and technical figures, as negatives, that is, white text and line art on a black background. Is there any way I can fix this? Any advice would be most appreciated.

I was trying to scan from a Lexmark X5250 into Preview so that I could fax a signed document to a company.
When I chose "To be faxed", with Preview TIFF program under 10.4.6 (combo) (PPC), the document appeares in Preview as a white-on-black (negative) in Preview's open window.
A work-around seems to be that one selects "To be printed", then prints from Preview, then selects (in the lower-left corner drop-down-menu) "Fax PDF". (Unfortunately, the modem still won't hang-up properly -- is this because of my ADSL filter on the fax phone-line? ).

  • Position of eps-files in anchored frame

Hello, I'm sorry but the subject was too large to put it in the subject-field.
    Subject:
position of eps-files (Mac Os 9, Illustrator 9.0, preview tiff black/white)
is not correct after saving eps-files (preview macintosh black/white)
I want to upgrade from Apple Mac 9.0 to PC. All my Framemaker-files (6.0)
must be translated to Framemaker 8.0 (PC-version).
When I open the old Framemaker files, there is only a problem with the
graphics (read: the preview of the graphics in Framemaker 8.0). The result
is: grey boxes in the anchored frames. I thought when I save the old
eps-files (Illustrator 9 for Mac, preview Macintosh Black+white) to
eps-files with TIFF preview, that the problem will be solved. When I open
the framemaker-files on PC, then there are a few graphics correct
(Framemaker displays all the graphics correct on pc). But, there are a lot
of graphics in anchored frames who lost their right coordinates in the
anchored frame (example: the x-position of a graphic is -25 cm en the
y-position of a graphic is 7.9 cm). Result: I cannot see a graphic in the
anchored frame because the coordinates were changed and because their are
outside the frame (their are in the frame, but the graphic is outside the
    border of the anchored frame).
When I use the old eps-files then the position is correct, but there is no
preview available of the graphic in Framemaker 8 (in Framemaker 6.0 for
Mac, there is a preview of the graphic).
Are there people who has this problem too in the past? Who can give me
suggestions to solve this problem or give me other tips to solve this
    problem.

    Hi Jesse
I'm afraid we probably can't help much. I asked our guy and he said:
I thought that issue had more to do with upgrading Adobe Illustrator. When you save an EPS it includes a BoundingBox comment that defines the area of the page that the figure occupies in the artwork:
    %%BoundingBox: LLx LLy URx URy
LLx and LLy are the coordinates of the lower left corner of the figure. URx and URy are the coordinates of the upper right corner of the figure.
When FrameMaker imports an EPS it reads the BoundingBox comment to get the size and position of the figure on the page, and therefore to compute the translation and scaling required in the PostScript output to put the figure where you want it.
The impression I got was that when you updated the EPS figure FrameMaker didn't always refresh the BoundingBox info.
The later version of Illustrator seemed to save files with a different BoundingBox. As a result there was a mis-match between the actual BoundingBox and what FrameMaker recorded.
The solution for us was to simply re-import the figure. I never wrote a script to solve that problem.

  • Preview and iPhoto do not open correctly raw or tiff files: they appear in false color!

Lately my macbook pro 13 ' with OS X Mountain Lion does not open files .raw correctly: they appear false color in "Preview" and also in iPhoto! What can I do?

  • Tiff's suddenly showing generic icon instead of image preview

All of a sudden I have begun having an intermittent problem with Bridge (CS3) not displaying a preview thumbnail for a very few number (not all) TIFF files- instead I just get a thumbnail showing a TIFF logo rather than the picture itself. I would normally think it was just something about those particular files but it's happened with some files from two other sources all within a few days of one another- on several occasions it has happened to a TIFF that previously had a preview and then once I did additional work and had to save over it, it lost the preview and had the generic icon.
Is anyone familiar with this issue and how to fix it? I already tried purging the cache for the folder, then I tried restarting Bridge while holding down the option key and reset the Cache database. I did not reset the Preferences yet, I have a lot of things set up just so and would like to avoid it if it isn't necessary. The only change I have made is I installed the newest version of Camera Raw, though I am not implying it had anything to do with this.

Purge the cache for the offending folder(s) through the Tools menu in Bridge, NOT through the broken global command in Bridge prefs.

  • 16bit Tiff & PSD previews in Bridge not showing correctly

Large multi layered Tiff, PSD and PSB files which have alpha channels, masks and layers, etc. do not show appropriate previews in Bridge (nor Windows for that matter). Many of these are very large 2-4GB, but even a typical 30-60MB file with certain alpha channels and masks are also problematic with previews.  I believe the problem appears mostly when the base images ar 16bit since the 8bit version exhibit properly most of the time.
Is this an issue which has a remedy?
    Thanks,
    Doug A
    Photoshop CS5, Windows 7, 64bit.

As Jeff said, this should fix the very large files, but I would recommend to post in the Bridge forum, or on http://feedback.photoshop.com if you still have trouble with 30 -60 Mb files.

  • TIFF thumbnails do not enlarge in either preview pane or content pane?

I have CS6 Bridge and Photoshop on a new 2014 iMac.
The thumbnail size as viewed on screen is a limited size (around 2cm x 1cm).  Enlarging the preview pane just increases the space around the thumbnail rather than the thumbnail increasing to fill the pane.  Similarly, in the folder contents panel, if I use the slider bottom right in Bridge this only inreases the size of the space around the thumbnail.  It is almost as if I have the max cache set at something really small.  But, I don't, it's set at 1000MB.
This phenomenon applies, oddly, only to tiff files.  If I use Bridge CS6 to view jpeg or raw files from multiple cameras (.dng,.cr2) it works perfectly.  So, only tiffs is the problem.
Any similar problems, resolutions, greatly appreciated.  For the moment I have to use Bridge CS4 with PS CS6 as my workround.
    Thanks.

All of a sudden my Bridge Content panel does not show any info on thumbnail
photos, neither file number nor any metadata preferences.  Info is OK in the
Metadata window, but not on Content pane
Also, the file folder thumbnail icons in Content panel now have the file
numbers super-imposed over the file instead of below.
That is caused by accidently hit cmd+T and that command does hide the
thumbnail info and put the name of the folder over the icon.
Hit cmd + T again to solve this or go the menu view and deselect the Show
    thumbnail only command
Coincidentally the font size of my Metadata panel suddenly got bigger and
bolder, not the Keyword panel or any other, just Metadata.  Doesn't really
bother me, but seems odd these have all just happened
That I have not seen before but might be solved with resetting the prefs as
Tai Lao described in his post.

  • After update to Camera Raw 8.x, Bridge CS6 can no longer build TIFF previews

I just updated Camera Raw 8.x via Adobe updater.
Even though this should only affect Photoshop, Adobe Bridge cs6 can no longer build previews for TIFFS.
    JPEGs still work.
    I purged the cache.
    Did not work.
All TIFF thumbnails are half the size of regular thumbnails, and the preview is equally stamp sized.
If you select a TIFF, no building of a preview is going on. The stamp sized preview just stays stamp sized.

    Solution found:
This was a botched Adobe update.
There has been already a whole thread about the Camera Update disabling many of Bridge CS6 features like previews of TIFFS.
But, obviously, someone did a very poor job at Adobe, and still pushed the bad update out via Adobe update.
Here is the solution of the problem:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/acr-84-bridge-cs6-metadata.html
This was a blunder of the worst kind, and I wish I could bill Adobe for the time lost!

  • New Preview Version in Lion - Unable to save as Tiff, any suggestions?

    Hello fellow Mac folks,
I just upgraded a MacBook Pro to the Lion OS....
Before Lion, I would use Preview (5.0.3 in SnowLeopard) to get my work expense report receipts ready for submission.  I would open PDF version of the actual report, save it as a TIFF file and then open that TIFF file in NeoOffice and bring in the actual receipts (which I had scanned and saved as TIFF files).  Once I had the complete TIFF version, I would then export it to PDF and send it on over to our Finance folks.
I tried the same thing today in Lion with Preview and noticed that I can no longer save the PDF file to a TIFF file.
I tried to pull in PDF versions of the actual receipts to the PDF report and then save but that wasn't successful either (hasn't been since I upgraded to SnowLeopard).
Any suggestions on how I can get around this?
    Your help is most appreciated!
    Regards,
    Vicki T.

    Thanks Terence....that solved my problem!
Can't wait to get my hands on the Mac OS Lion Missing Manual for just such things :-)

  • Preview of some flattened TIFFs show only one of the original layers

When I flatten the files that I have been working on into TIFFs for delivery to clients, sometimes the preview (or thumb nail) shows only a single layer of the original layered file that I was working with. When the file is opened in photoshop, the complete image is there. Is this a bug or is there a way to correct this before I flatten the image? Btw, I have seen this same issue through many versions of photoshop... from CS3 through CS6. When saving the same flattened image as a JPG, the preview saves correctly.

[This is a rewritten post because I posted some garbage first time. ]
I was pretty sure you were going to say OS X.
Is there an alpha channel (possibly used to store a selection) in the problem files?
On a Mac, if there's exactly one alpha channel in a TIFF, the system interprets that alpha channel as transparency when it generates a preview. And if there's more than one alpha channel then the preview sometimes will be weirdly coloured.
Save As TIFF has a checkbox for inclusion of alpha channels, so clear that when exporting your flattened TIFF.

  • No preview with placed tiff in Illustrator cc?

While in Illustrator cc, when I place a tiff from Photoshop, the preview does not show up. I had this problem yesterday and I worked it out with help from this forum. So today I was placing images and everything was working perfect until I wanted to place another image, all of the sudden I couldn't see a preview again. I could see a preview of the other files I placed but not this one? I check PS preferences "always show preview" is clicked. Not sure what to do, is this a bug?

what do you see when you place the file--a gray box?
solution is probably same as yesterday--sounds like you may have some file corruption (what's the source of this 'new' tiff?)
open it in photoshop and do a 'save as' with a different name--see if that helps

  • While in Illustrator cc, when I place a tiff there is no preview in Illustrator, what am I missing,

While in Illustrator cc, when I place a tiff there is no preview in Illustrator, what am I missing,

in CS5 or later--it's in the preferences panel
if it's already set like above--just resave (is the problem you're having happen with ALL tiffs? or just one?).
