Preview turns black?!

So I've got a giant album from a vacation that I'm working on. I'm sifting through all the thumbnails of my raw files and picking ones I'd like to make some adjustments to. But sometimes something strange happens. I'll click on a thumbnail and start making adjustments. Then without rhyme or reason I go to make one more adjustment and the big preview turns black! If i undo the last adjustment it comes back. This has happened several times with this album but i have not had this problem before. And once, I was making adjustments but instead of the preview going black, it just stopped showing results of the adjustments. But the little thumbnail version was showing the results. Weird!
This happen to anyone else?

Cool, i have the older Dual (not dual core) 2.3ghz G5 so i believe it is the AGP/PCI-X, correct?
And wow, i can find some of these cards in stock but they are over $300. Even used on ebay! Any decent alternatives... a second best option? I've been meaning to replace my 9600 anyway since Aperture runs slowly for me right now.
Thanks!

  • Previews turning black on import:

I was working on an event at the weekend and on Saturday everything was fine - every image imported and displayed correctly in my Aperture Library.  No software updates or anything  and then switched iMac back on on Sunday and went to import more images and every single one shows briefly as a correct thumbnail nad then rapidly turns into a black rectangle!  This changed after a power failure (generator ran out of fuel) on Sunday morning...
I now have 5,000+ black rectangles showing instead of images!
If I display each one in the viewer in full view (rather than Preview mode) it shows correctly and then there is a correct preview when i return to Browser view, but this doesn't work if I do a [Select All]...  It's going to take a while to do this for 5,000+ images and it is also continuing to do this...  Anyone know what this is and how I can restore normal behaviour?
    Thanks

    The offline one...
    red line through it.
generated thumbnails for that whole library now and saved and closed and it's now OK,
But new imports still doing the same
Photo-mechanic or Lightroom here we come, I think...  Fed up with wasting time on Aperture problems - spinning beachballs, crashes if you try to do too much too soon (especially in the middle of large imports) and it's not compatible with anything else...
Shame, as I like to keep stuff in house, as it were, but I've already ditched Safari and regretting installing Mountain Lion - going off Apple rapidly...
Stopped recommending it years ago, now, whereas I used to be a 'Mac-bore'

  • Previews turning black

After making adjustments to pictures, I often end up with a preview that is entirely black or one that has one or more of four quarters of the preview black. Sometimes, not often simply waiting or restarting Aperture resolves the problem. Forcing regeneration of the preview never brings it back. Removing all adjustments almost always brings the preview back. Can anyone tell me what is going on, and whether there is a reliable way to ensure the previews are preserved without removing all the adjustments?

I only asked because some people who have had 'export' problems have found it seems to go away when they switch back to the default Apple profiles whilst they do the export.
I'm just asking things such as this in the hope that maybe between us all we'll find the triggers that cause this problem, allowing us to avoid them (if possible) until Apple fix whatever it is that is actually broken.
Highlights and Shadow usage have definitely (many forum posts) been among the things most likely to trigger the 'black in the viewer' bug. But then some posters reported the problem gone as/when they've done various upgrades of Aperture and MacOS X.
It also helps to mention which exact model of Mac, and graphics card you have. Different ones undoubtedly encounter different bugs.

  • My video previews turns black after a few seconds

I have Skype version 7.4. and use it to Skype with my sister. When I first start the video conversation, my image appears in the little box. Within a few seconds, the image disappears and I have a black/blank box. I am using a Logitech camera that's only a few weeks old. Why does my image disappear and how do I permanently fix this problem?

  • Pantones turn black when PDF opened in Preview

I am creating mockups for a t-shirt design, this top photo is how the design looks in illustrator with the correct pantones: blue 3115C, Red 119C, and Black.
When I save it as a PDF and it is opened in the Preview Application, certain colors turn black like this:
This has happened several times lately and I have recently switched from Illy CS5 to CS6, so I wonder if that is the reason?
Any clues guys? Help is greatly appreciated.

Apple's Preview is one of the worst PDF viewers ever. Standard advice for just about every problem is "use the FREE Adobe Reader instead".
    That said, I'm intrigued:
    > I have recently switched from Illy CS5 to CS6, so I wonder if that is the reason?
    Can you test this?
A PMS ink does not "have" a color to display on screen, since the ink name in itself is enough to unambiguously identify it (when printing as color separations, to be exact). But (1) one would appreciate a fairly accurate preview, and (2) sometimes one needs to convert a PMS ink to its nearest equivalent in CMYK. For that reason, an approximation of the ink used should be stored into the PDF as well. I can't imagine Adobe forgot about that for CS6 (if so, your file won't work with Reader either), but maybe they switched it to a notation that poor dumb Preview cannot handle. In that case, I'm curious about what the difference could be.
If you can create a small file that demonstrably works correct in Preview when exported from CS5 and *not* from CS6, can you post both PDFs somewhere?

  • What does it mean when a file's preview icon turns black?

So, I need some help with this one. I'm stumped. I noticed some of my file preview icons turn black. What does this mean? Is the file corrupt? When I try to open the file nothing appears other than a big black image. What's going on? I'm thinking I should reinstall Mac OS X because something might be screwed up. Need advice!

    Mountain Lion Recovery
Boot up from your computer by holding down the command+r keys.  This will take you to the recovery drive.
Select Disk Utility & hit Return.
In Disk Utility select the HD on the left & click on Repair Disk (bottom right).
Repair permissions when you reach the desktop and restart your computer.  Preview icons still black?

As soon as I open a photo with Preview, part of the photo turns black.  Just started doing this.

Complain to the Attorney General about what? There is nothing in your story worth any such complaint. They will tell you the same.
First you have payment difficulty so credit and the Edge program are not available to you. You have to be credit worthy to get any upgrade, unless you can pay full price for all those new devices.
    Can you?
You are trying to get new contract plans, but since you are having paying on time and in full issues you will not get extended credit from any carrier.
What I would do is go and port out to Boost or Virgin Mobile where you pay a reduced cost for each device and get unlimited everything for $40 to $50 a month, it is pre pay so if you don't pay you get cut off.
Verizon although with the best coverage is also the highest priced.
    Good Luck

  • Background images flickering and turning black on scroll in published site, but in not preview.

The background images are very flickery and turning black when scrolling when viewing published site in Safari.   This just started happening today after working on this for a few weeks now and the first time I'm noticing it.   Everything is still ok in preview mode.  All the large background images are optimized to be 500kb or less (they are all just placeholders).

that is so strange, i had the location "image/rotator/......" for all three of my images in the js file and only the third one works?
i believe they are all loading up fine as of this moment, just like they were yesterday, but not this morning when i first arrived at work. i wonder what changes the location by itself.
hopefully the same thing won't happen again.
as for the text problem, thanks for pointing that out, i really appreciate it! but our office has been quite understaffed for a while, and no one here really knows anything about web maintenance. hopefully someone will fix those problems some day.
    thanks again bregent!

  • Photo turns black while editing...

    Hi,
I just upgraded from iPhoto 09 to iPhoto 11. All the latest software updates have been applied. Mostly, there's been no problems, except for one really annoying one.
When editing a photo, most of the time it works fine. But often times, especially when doing some heavy editing with the various exposure, saturation, sharpness and other sliders, the photo will just turn black...nothing. If I exit from edit mode, the photo is there just fine and the edits have even been applied. I go back to edit mode, it works fine for a couple of minutes and then, again, black. I tried this with many different photos, same results. This never happened before with iPhoto for me. I even tried it with photos that were similarly edited with iPhoto 09 (made a duplicate of the original and started working) and am getting the same problem.
I tried rebuilding the library (checking every box in the rebuilding dialogue box). No dice.
I tried trashing the com.apple.iPhoto folder in the caches folder of user/library. No dice.
I tired trashing the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file in the Preferences folder in user/library. No dice.
I even tried creating a new library and importing new photos in there and after some minutes of use, same problem. Again, no dice.
My machine is a white MacBook, 2.0 GHz C2D with 4 gigs of RAM running 10.6.5 and all the latest software updates (including iPhoto 9.1.1).
Does anyone know what gives? Is this a bug others are encountering? Thanks.

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. *Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. *Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. *A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. *A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. *A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *If none of these help*:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Photes turn black when trying to edit w/ adjus sliders.

I can edit about 10% of my photos w/ editing 'adjust' sliders. Remainder turn black.I can often reset and get pic back, the move one or two sliders VERY small amounts. there seems no reason although more often my camera downloads will take editing better than scanned photos. Wonder if that has ANYthing to do w/ editing problems. I get no error messages.
In terms of TD's suggestions....I had this problem before my hard drive died 5 months ago, Had new/upgraded OS, iLife, etc installed and started iphoto library w/ all new photos. Same problem, and it seems as if I can successfully edit fewer and fewer pictures as time goes by.

If I hold down the Option key while launching iPhoto, I get the option to start a new library. Do I have to import all my thousands of photos into the new library?

  • Fillable fields turn black

I am using LiveCycle Designer ES3 to design fillable forms.  Specifically, I imported a static *.pdf into LiveCycle Designer and added all my fields and properties the way I'm supposed to.  Everything goes great while I'm in the design view and preview PDF looks great.  But when I reader extend my form, some of the fillable fields turn black.  What is the problem and how do I fix it?

  • Pdf area patterns turn black when embedded

I have serveral vector pdfs that I need to merge together on a single page. Some of these pdfs have area patterns/tiles in them to represent vegetation, etc. When I first drop them into an illustrator file the colors (green, blue, etc) are displayed correctly. However, once I embed the pdf to delete the white clipping mask, the patterns/tiles turn black.
Is there a way to do any of the following?
    1) place a pdf in an illustrator file without the clipping mask showing up automatically or delete the clipping mask without embedding the pdf or
    2) get illustrator to not loose the color when the file is embedded or
    3) change the color of the pattern from black to the correct color (currently when I try to change the color it just gives the area a solid fill)

  • IPhoto Images Turn Black

In iPhoto 9, vers. 8.1.2, new uploads turn black after editing in iPhoto and content is "0", meaning I can't export anything. I can revert to original, but in edited form the content is gone! This seems to be with my new Nikon camera images only. I don't really have to use their  software to upload images, do I? I want to go from camera to iPhoto direct. I should be able to edit photos in iPhoto and export them.

I still have this problem. It has occurred on pictures imported from Sony, Nikon and Fuji cameras
