Preview utility, default Save file format

How to force the Preview utility to use JPG as the default format on the Save operation?
Currently it uses PNG.

I don't think that's possible.

  • Save file formats

    hello every one,
Can any one tell me how to save excel sheets or any other file format by clicking on a button in flex 3.
    Thanks in advance.

The first two, yes. For Compiled Help, the third, I'm sure you know that the files have to be compiled, so no, and I don't think the source files for compilation are a direct export either, unless you can follow an XML path. Although the popularity of CHM is way down from a number of years ago because HTML is more portable, but that's a different issue.
If I were you, I'd look at MIF2go, a Frame add on that does support export to all these formats, and a number of others.
    InDesign doesn't do this either...
Just as a word of unasked for advice, choosing your authoring platform by what it can output is a back-asswords way to choose a tool. Find the tool that suits the way you create documents the best so you get more required features to create your stuff quicker and easier.
Both the tools you mention and most other modern ones do pretty open-ended output, either directly or through filters or conversion utilities... there are always ways to massage output to a different format. So output is certainly a consideration, but it's a relatively minor one.
As for input tools, you're comparing apples and oranges with FM and ID. FM excels at book style documents with multiple chapters or files that share common layout characteristics. InDesign excels at shorter documents that are usually design-driven, that require hands-on layout tweaking, and it can't do multiple file management.

  • Default save file location ignored for Outlook attachments

Whenever I open an office attachment in Outlook, then edit and try to save, it always goes to "Libraries/Documents". I then have to do numerous clicks to get to my default location for every file.
Is there somewhere to set the default for this. The "default file location" in Excel or Word are ignored.
    Thanks, Joe

    Try this:
Open the Registry Editor (regedit) and browse to the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Options
Create a new String value called "DefaultPath" in the right pane, modify the entry to the locate as you want.

  • Preview & Adobe Clearscan save file problem

Preview appears to have some compatibility issues with Adobe Clearscan OCR'd PDFs. While Preview can view and read the PDF initially and can copy text from the PDF into other applications; if you attempt to save the PDF in Preview (with or without making modifications), the subsequent document loses all of the scanned characters and copied text turns into a series of ␣s. As long as you do not save the file and simply open and close it in Preview, the characters remain intact. Additionally, the other OCR formats in Adobe do not generate PDFs that exhibit this bizarre behavior - they can be saved without loss of characters.
    * Note - Clearscan PDFs were generated in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.3 on a Windows XP x64 machine while the version of Preview used was 5.0.2 (504) on OSX 10.6.3.

    Hey YaoTingHuang,
Please try saving any other PDF file to the same folder location and check if the same message appears.
Let me know what happens if you disable protected mode under Edit> Preferences> Security (Enhanced) and uncheck 'Enable protected mode at startup'
    Hope to hear from you.

  • How do you set default save file type

My Photoshop when I choose save as is choosing TIF as the default file type after opening a raw file. I want to choose PSD as the default. I cannot figure out how to change the setting to raw.

Hi, Unfortunately, Photoshop will chose a format that fits the minimal requirements of a file according to the absence/presence of layers.
You could go to the feedback website, http://feedback.photoshop.com and ask for a preference to set the default file type.

  • Change default save file type to gif

I've seen people submit some solutions but it requires changing codes of the files.... is there a simpler way to do it? I don't understand why it's saving as a jpg file... the older versions used gif as the default for save as web...

That is odd. What version of Ps are you using? Both CS6 and CC 2014 hold the last used format (GIF) for me.. First, try holding Alt (Win) or Opt (Mac) with Save For Web open - the "cancel" will become a "reset" button. Now try again. Also, when you press Alt/Opt you should see the "done" will become a "remember."

  • Save file formating

Firstly I would like to ask if there is any way to get edge to format the saved html documents, javasript, or PHP files to look like they do in editor rather than everything on one line when I open it in notepad or gtext editor. E.G. I want the documents created in edge to have the proper indentation, line spacing etc. outside of edge so that those who work on them without this editor will be able to read them properly.  Is this possible with the current state of edge? If not then this question goes to developers of edge. Can you please add this as a default functionality? It not setting them up this way

It sounds like what you're seeing is a problem with line endings.  The way line endings (newlines) are stored in a text file varies by OS.  Notepad, and a few other simple text editors, are only able to deal with the way Windows stores line endings.  Most editors, including Edge Code, can correctly understand line endings from any platform (Windows style or Mac/Linux style).  That explains the display difference.
If you want to convert a file from Mac/Linux line endings to Windows line endings, there are various utility programs available that will let you do that, such as unix2dos.  Or you can write a little script file to make your own utility.

  • Setting default save file in JFileChooser

Is there a way to set a default file name for the save dialog created by
JFileChooser.showSaveDialog(null);in order to save the user needing to type something every time?
    Thanks.

    Exactly
Java keeps ramming classes into the jre that are useful in only a very limited context. At the same time, they can't give us a filedialog that adds the extension onto the returned file... This is something everyone wants, but unfortunately is'nt part of Java. I'm frustrated by it as well (if you can't tell)

  • What is the default encoding file format for oracle database.

    Hello,
I wanted to create all files in ANSI format irrespective of database characterset. is there any way to confirm?
    please help me out.

    Hello,
AS per my knowledge, UTL_FILE expects that files opened by UTL_FILE.FOPEN in text mode are encoded in the database character set And files opened by UTL_FILE.FOPEN_NCHAR in text mode are encoded in the UTF8 character set. However there is not any parameter to set default encoding format for file. It works as mentioned above.
Encoding mode is depend on database character set. If you want to change it while reading/writing file then you can use utl_encode.text_encode/ utl_encode.text_decode/ UTL_RAW.CONVERT function.
When data encoded in one character set is read and Globalization Support is told (such as by means of NLS_LANG) that it is encoded in another character set, the result is indeterminate. If NLS_LANG is set, it should therefore be the same as the database character set..
I wanted to create file using UTL_FILE. and whatever files gets create that should be in ANSI format.
    Database version : 11.2.0.1

  • How can I set a default save file for scans using the Solution Center?

    Using Windows 7 - 64 bit.   HP Photosmart Premuim C-309a All-In-One Printer.
Because of a Windows crash, I had to install a new drive and reload Windows. I also reloaded other software like the HP Solution Center & Drivers. My problem is that I can't find how to set a default folder for my scans.  This is NOT mentioned in the user manual but it was originally accomplished by HP Tech Support when the printer was new.  Can anyone relate how to set default folders for my scans?
    Thanks.

Here is a document on how to scan through Windows 7.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03476857
Click either solution center or the icon of the printer on your desktop. Here select "Scanner Actions" (or the analogous selection). When the window pops up from the HP software it should provide you with options for file type (.tiff, .pdf, .jpg) as well as resolution and media size. Here on this page there is also an option for you to go to the advanced options. Using this you can alter the default safe folder.
Let me know if that helps you out!

  • Firefox crashes when saving a file using the "Alsways ask me where..." download option, but NOT when using the default "Save files to..." download option.

    My OS is XP-x64.
The Firefox version I am on is 14.0.1 (July 2012, "FunnelCake").
The "C: \Documents and Setting\Downloads\" is the folder I used to try downloading the same file to via 2 different methods.
    1) When this folder is set as the permanent download location, it works.
    2) When I use the "Always ask me where.." download setting, and I select the same folder, the Firefox window completely disappears without any message at all !
I get the same result with (2) even if I already turned my VirusScan software off.
This same behavior persists after completely uninstalling and re-installing Firefox.

    Hi,
You can try to right-click and '''Reset''' the '''browser.download.lastDir''' key in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config].

  • Change default save files directory

I'm trying to switch where files are saved on my computer but Firefox just ignores the new directory and keeps saving in the same place instead of what's set in options/downloads/savefilesto. How can I make it so that my downloads go in a specific folder?

ccau, You wrote, <br> ''I set the download location to e.g. 'e:\temp\' (or anywhere else with at least one non-root path component), the location is honored. If I use e.g. 'd:\', 'e:\' etc, it is ignored.''
Mozilla developers are working on the bug introduced in Firefox 27 that prevents selecting a "root" directory as the download folder (you can vote for the bug to keep track of the progress)

  • Can one set Preview to a save location?

Anyone have any suggestions on why Preview wants to always Save my scans to a <tmp> file.
    See my original post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16640192#16640192
    Thanks for any suggestions.
PS Is there a way to unmark a post as Correct Answer or somehow indicate there is still an open thread? Thanks.

    your guess is incorrect
the default save file format in preview is PNG regardless of what format file you open
if you open a jpeg and select and copy a portion of it and then save to clipboard and then save it as anew document, it will default to PNG
like the original poster i have been trying to get a satisfactory answer to this question and i believe there is simply no way to chnage the default image save format of preview
i hear you can do it for screenshots but i have tried and can't even do that sucessfully

  • How do you make .aiff the default file format to send to iTunes

I am using Garagebend 10.0.2 to edit my audio (nothing fancy just cutting peices I do not want out) and when I go to Share>Song to itunes the default is AAC.
I want the default to be .aiff.
There is nothing in preferences that allows me to change the default setting.

THe "Share "Song to iTunes" uses AAC as its default audio file format and you cannot change it.
If you want to export to AIFF, then use the "Export Sonto Disk" option in the Share menu
In the next Save Dialog, just select the AIFF button (and 16bit or 24bit from the popup menu below)
    Hope that helps
