Preview vs. Quark-generated PDFs (hyperlinks)

MacOSX 10.4.11, Quark 7.31
Any PDF created using Quark's "Export > Layout as PDF" opens in Preview.app, but hyperlinks are scrambled. A few work properly, most go to random destinations, and the rest don't work at all. The same PDF opened in Acrobat Reader works as expected. This is the only instance I'm aware of where Acrobat Reader works better than Preview.
Any thoughts? I'm not sure whether this is a Preview problem, a Quark problem, or some clash between the two.

I'm not sure I even understand the problem.
Is there any difference between image free Pages documents and documents with images?
Or is the difference only between pages within a document, where some pages have images and some not?
You write "Pages that do not have images render nice and clean". But you also write that you try to fix the problem by inserting white images. That would make them bad, wouldn't it?
Anyhow, if a page becomes better by adding a white image to it, could you then not simply create a template with a white image in it? Highlight the image and select Format > Advanced > Move object to Section Master.
It is a work around, but it may work.
If, on the other hand, I misunderstood that, and the images themselves cause the problem, is there anything particular with your images? Shadows? Reflections?
If you have any friend with Pages and he does not have the problem, you could check if his/her documents are fine on your Mac and vice versa.
If you live in the US or another place with good Mac support, you could even go to the nearest AppleStore and ask them to try it out on one of their demo macs, and see if they have the same problem.

  • Viewing PC-generated pdfs in Preview for Mac

I have a pdf that I generated on a PC (Windows 7, using Acrobat 9). The front cover includes an image that was previously pdf'd then inserted as a cover graphic. When viewed using Acrobat Reader, everything looks fine both on a PC and a Mac. However, when viewed on a Mac using Preview for Mac, there are lines through the cover graphic.
Has anyone else come across problems viewing PC-generated pdfs in Preview for Mac?

I always find that Preview can garble certain graphic elements or even slightly alter the over-all color of the PDF. However, I also find it is a lot quicker to deal with PDFs, especially when it comes to printing. Sometimes I get a PDF that I send to print on our Canon copier and I end up canceling the print job after 10-15 minutes because it's still processing. I open that same PDF in Preview and it prints in less than a minute. The same can be said of InDesign so on certain jobs I end up exporting as a PDF and printing from Preview. This might say a lot about Adobe's Printing Engine... (sorry, off-topic)

  • Finder crashes while generating PDFs in preview

    Hi guys,
    i've got a little problem.
Everytime i browse with the finder to PDFs it chrashes, while generating PDFs in preview.
Also it takes ages to generate the preview for a PDFs with about 1MB.
any hints and tipps about that problem ?
    thanks in advance.
    cheers

    Hello sponger:
If no one posts a fix for you, I would consider an archive and install (NOT an erase and install):
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Be sure you have a good backup/retreat strategy before you proceed. In my case, I make bootable clones of my iMacs on an external firewire drive using a little program called SuperDuper (www.shirt-pocket.com).

  • Why would hyperlinks fail to work half-way through generated PDF?

I'm trying to create a PDF of a MS Word file using the Adobe PDF > Convert to Adobe PDF function. In the generated PDF, half-way through the file the hyperlinks stop working although they display correctly. In the source Word file, the links work fine. The Word file is heavily cross referenced and is about 14 MB. It was originally a 26MB file, but I reduced the filesize by converting the embedded graphics from embedded Visio objects to .wmf images.
My question - what would make the hyperlinks fail? Is it a system processing issue? The rest of the PDF seems fine. Note that the final PDF also contains bookmarks. All other PDFs I generate work correctly.
    System Details:
    Word 2003
    Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional
    Windows XP, Version 2002, SP2
    789 MHz, 3GB RAM
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Just in case, I would suggest updating your Acrobat. You have to install the updates in order, but AA7 is currently at 7.1.2. The updates are available at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows. Version 7.0.1 is a very early version. The latter versions (7.1.x) were primarily security updates. The 7.0.x updates were fixing a lot of the bugs.

  • How to generate PDF with bookmarks?

    Hi,
The business request is to have pdf report with bookmarks. There is no predefined bookmark object in Livecycle Designer/SFP so my idea is to add some scripting to the form to generate bookmarks dynamically. I defined a standard pdf form with several lines of JavaScript embedded. The script is running in the form preview in Livecycle  Later I was testing the form by calling its function module and looking at the generated PDF file. Unfortunately it seems there is no script embedded in the final output PDF generated by ADS.
Is Javascript supported in pdf forms? Do I need to perform any additional operations to enable the Javascipt? Do I need to pass additional parameters to ADS? I tested the following settings:
           fp_docparams-fillable = 'X'.
           fp_docparams-DYNAMIC = 'X'.
           fp_outputparams-getpdf = 'X'.
           fp_outputparams-PDFTAGGED = 'X'.
           fp_outputparams-PDFCHANGESRESTRICTED = ' '.
    I appreciate any suggestion.

    Hi Lata,
May be there is some error in the JavaScript code written.
Sometimes if there is an error in JavaScript then from where the error occurs from there the JavaScript wont work in the Adobe Form.
To check whether JavaScript contains errors or not. You just simply open your Adobe Acrobat Reader goto Edit in that goto Preferences and in that Select "JavaScript" in that you find the JavaScript Debugger there you enable "Show Console on errors and messages".
This may help you in some way or the other.

  • Custom Purchase Order template causes Error while generating PDF

The standard XSLFO works, my custom one errors:
    History of the world:
    1) I downloaded the XML Publisher thing for Word, installed it no problems
    2) Downloaded the XML data definition for the Standard Purchase Order from XML Publisher Administrator
    3) Created a blank word document and created the purchase order layout from scratch using the XML Publisher plug-in
    4) Previewed it as a PDF in word - it looked fine (well, it was a start)

    Hi Jo,
The first version for which the Template Builder was released is 5.0
Well, I guess I am one of the few who has a backported 4.5 version of the template builder. I did that for testing exactly your case. I just replaced our xdocore.jar file with the 4.5 version and it worked. The core.jar is not easily available. The files are part of the 4.5 patch, but I think it is too much work to get them out.
However, I would strongly recommend to upgrade to a later version of XML Publisher. We made huge improvements, since 4.5 - performance, translation, RTF template capabilities....
I just checked the process of converting an RTF template to FO and uploading it to EBS with 5.6.2 and it still worked. So it seems you can go straight to the latest version.
    Hope that helps,
    Klaus

  • How to generate PDF copy of invoice list

    Hi All,
I need a favor from you in helping to generate a PDF copy to invoice list .
I observed that  spool is not generated for this print output of invoice list but output successfully triggered.
we have z report (zretrieval ) to generated the PDF  but it's not allowed to generate PDF.
I tried alternative method by saving the print preview but I can able to save only that particular page.
our business looking for all invoice list pages in single pdf  so please guide me to proceed further.
    Regards
    Srinivasa Reddy

I presume your issue is output triggered but PDF file is not generating if the invoice list goes for multiple pages.  If this is correct, then you need to talk to your ABAPer as they only, have to check the  smartform being used for invoice list.

  • Can't open libHaru-generated PDF with Reader, other readers work.

Our application uses libHaru to export PDF images.  These PDFs can be opened using PDFlite on Windows, Preview on Mac and some other readers.  However, I have tried several versions of Adobe Reader on both platforms and the files fail to open with the message: "There was an error processing a page.  There was a problem reading this document (14)."   So, it seams that Adobe Reader believes that there is problem with this file.  However, from my very limited understanding of PDF structure, I have no idea what might be wrong, so I don't know how to fix it.  The file is written unencrypted.  It is about as simple a PDF as we can generate - a red-filled rectangle.  I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or help.

  • Printing SFP ADOBE generated pdf from spool.

I am trying to print ADOBE PDF file to HP Designjet Z5400 plotter.  It successfully writes a pdf file to the spool.  When I either release that spool file to print or have the print job set to print immediately I get a spool error - unable to read format G_RAW l_rc =128.  However I can print the pdf from preview.  It is NOT an issue with the printer printing the pdf file as I can do this.  My issue is that I cannot print directly to the printer via the SAP spooler.  I have entered incident to SAP with specific example of my program that produces the pdf spool file.  I am directed to read notes that imply I have ADS problem which is ridiculous as I have plenty of SFP generated pdf files printing to HP and Canon laser printers.  Again i am trying to print a very large label 2 X2 foot to HP Designjet Z5400 plotter directly via spool.  My task is to direct label to different printers based upon MATNR field.
I would appreciate response from only people who have printed SPF ADOBE pdf to plotters.

  • Emailing Generated PDF Document as Attachment - Error

    Hi Forum,
A custom Print Form was developed using SFP Transaction and trying to send the Form to the vendors using an email attachment.
    1. Used cl_bcs class for sending email. Attachment data(Generated PDF Output) was moved to solix_tab .
    2. In the email attachment I see a PDF attachment with some funny characters and not the PDF Document I see in the print preview
Please advice me what I should do to the actual PDF document in the email attachment .
    Thanks,
    Vijay.

    Vijay,
    Please try this solution.
Characters that are not included in the ASCII character set are not displayed correctly due to an incorrect encoding setting of the browser.
During the display of the overview in the PDF format, errors may occur in certain versions of the Adobe Acrobat Reader. In this case, a blank page is displayed.
The problem is caused by a program error.
    Adobe, Acrobat, Reader, PDF
    Reason and Prerequisites
The problem is caused by a program error.
SAP WebAs sends incorrect encoding information to the browser so that the latter does not switch to the correct encoding utf-8 automatically.
Some versions of the Adobe Acrobat Reader may have problems with that, for example version 6.0.
    <b>Solution</b>
Import the corresponding Support Package.(presumably SP4)
    Alternatively:
The revised version with various changes in the translation is provided by the attachment of this note.
Refer to the detailed description in Note 13719 on how to download and implement the corrections into your system.
    Thanks,
    Raj.

  • Generating PDFs from marked TXTs

    Hello,
I have around thousand TXT files, which use special syntax (kind of like Markdown text, but with hyperlinks and other stuff). I created a program, which converts them to a HTML+CSS website and it works great for online consultation. But for offline consultation I would like to generate a single PDF file from all those marked TXTs. Now, from what I gathered on the Internet, one (and possibly the best) solution would be:
    1. LaTeX
but the LaTeX syntax is fairly complicated, so I wonder if Adobe provides some kind of facilities for my case. Another solution I thought of:
    2. Convert my HTML+CSS website to PDF using Acrobat Pro
but I don't know if the result will look good and if the hyperlinks will be preserved. Another solution, which doesn't involve Acrobat Pro:
    3. Control InDesign using a script to generate PDF
but the problem is that those TXT files have variable length (between 1 and 5 pages), and InDesign would require me to detect when a new page is needed.
In summary, which of the 3 methods above would you recommend me?

Thank you for your reply. I ended up using the method you recommended.
I changed the CSS so it ressembles a little more a printed format, then I mounted my website to a local address using "Apache HTTP Server", then I used Acrobat Pro to convert my website to PDF. This way no Internet connection is involved.

    Hi,
I have tried this code but stil the same.
However i tried setup another tomcat and application in the other machine and the only job for  the application is exporting the report that has problem, then the error is gone.
So i guess that is the memory size problem.
    Thanks for this
One more question about the memory size between Tomcat and Crystal report.
I have set in catalina.bat as
    set JAVA_OPTS = "-Xms2048M -Xmx1024M"
    and CRConfig as
    <JVMMaxHeap>1024000000</JVMMaxHeap>
    <JVMMinHeap>512000000</JVMMinHeap>
    1. Is that the correct setting.?
    2. The memory in the JAVA_OPT and is the MAX and MIN memory that java would use,
then is the Max memory in CRConf is 1024M out of the java heap size or the application use another 1024 memory
