Preview vs. timeline

When I use preview mode video is showed ok. If I moved it into timeline and pressed play video, the video is showed in strange colours, bugs. etc. Another videos in project are showed right. The project is in full hd format and the videos have also the same format.

After replying to prior questions, I have some questions also, not already pointed to.
1. From what you wrote, it sounds  to me like only one video file on the Timeline is affected, and no other video files on that Timeline are affected even if those other files have the same format as the problem file. Is that correct? If so, that would seem to take the video card/graphics card out of the troubleshooting equation.
2. Knowing the version of Premiere Elements and on what operating system it is running are important. For now, I will assume Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13
on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit. If you select and highlight the problem video on the Timeline and go to Adjust Tab/Adjustments Palette/...and display of panels, do any of the panels have a green dot on them? If so, which one(s). Aside from that, did you knowingly apply any effect(s) to the problem clip that you did not to the others? Here I am suspecting a Smart Fix being applied with or without your knowledge.
As a just in case note about what you see in the Preview Window when you double clip the file thumbnail in Project Assets or on the Timeline -
You see the source file without applied effects et al. That is normal.
If you press the play button of the Edit area monitor, you get the playback on the Timeline content with its applied effects et al. That is normal.
Consequently, my initial target in your troubleshooting is what has been knowingly or unknowingly applied to the problem clip in the scenario
that I suspect and have stated at the top of this post.
We will be following your replies to all contributions.
Thank you.

  • Lags while previewing AVCHD timeline

    Hey Guys,
Sorry for another thread being opened, but I guess the old thread is not to the point with my problem.
The current situation is simple, I can't edit avchd footage.
With only one strip of video (AVCHD 1080i 25fps), I can't preview the time line without heavy lags.
I don't know where to attack the problem from.. the machine is brand new and I have tried just about everything.
Is it a hardware problem? I'm pretty desperate.
    The machine:
    i7 2600k, p8z68 v pro MOBO, 16gb ram (4x4GB G.Skill RipJaw X Edition Dual Channel CL7-8-7-24)
GTX 560 Ti ('hacked' the cuda list)
500gb black caviar sata 3 for os
2*1tb black caviar sata 3 raid for Project & Media
2*1tb black caviar sata 3 raid for Scartch,Renders,Etc.
    2tb green caviar for backups.
    *using the onboard raid controller.
No index, no compression, maxed out for performance in every aspect (removed visuals), disabled services, removed auto startups thingies
disabled anti virus, windows is up to date.
Hdd are defragged without partitions, I get 163 average speed in hd zune which I think is normal.
Ram: no page on any drive other then on the scratch raid with 24gb set as fixed size, power plan is set to high performance.
I'm running adobe cs5.5 with latest 5.5.2 update.
Benchmarking with the ppbm is quite ok compared to other similar sets.
Because the problem is previewing the timeline my guess, the problem is something with read speed from the hdd.
The CPU goes up to 30% when I'm playing with the timeline and memory usagase is about 7-8gb
One last thought, maybe I'm editing in a not suitable sequence? when I'm laying the footage on the time line the entire sequence is yellow.
    Many thanks,
    Eliran.

    Hi Eliran,
At the bottom left of default Premiere layout, you should have a "Browser" pane or tab - open that and navigate to where the video files are. I don't think you even need to dig all the way down to the Stream folder - this is what Browser does, is locate the VIDEO clips out of the complexity. It will list them out, and you can multi-select the ones you want and drag them to the timeline sequence OR the clip bin.
The way AVCHD works is that audio and video files are sometimes separate, then there is the metadata and such, and the parts are all kind of separate, so if you ONLY go and import the video clip, sometimes causes issues in editing. Better to use Browser because it understands all that and takes care of it for you. Maybe I'm oversimplifying or don't have it 100% correct, but just saying that we've had customers with editing problems that were solved by using Browser rather than Import.
Doesn't hurt to try that method, is recommended for tapeless materials.

  • Streaming audio begins at beginning when previewed in timeline

I have audio inserted along the main timeline of my Flash movie. It is set to stream. When I try to preview the timeline to match the narration with events along the timeline, no matter where I am on the timeline, the audio starts at the beginning. Makes timing incredibly difficult.
Is there a fix for this, or is it a bug in the Flash Pro CC that will cause me to continue to work in Flash 5.5?
    Thanks.

Ah I understand. Well here's what I managed to HUNT down
This issue was posted on this very forum on April 15th which can be found HERE.
If you look at reply #3 you can see that member has the same computer I had (HP desktop with beats audio).
I remember trying what he suggested and it actually worked...for a small while.
When the issue came back, I continually tried to enable/disable the Beats audio in hopes of fixing the issue.
Sometimes it would work immediately. Other times it wouldn't work at all.
The member in post #3 is probably right in that this may be related to the audio driver on some computers.
Now, I just got a Dell XPS8700 and I haven't gotten the issue yet.
Of course I've only been using it for a day or so but so far so good.
The HP desktop I was using is going to my friend.
He will be using it to work on our show so essentially he'll have to deal with the headache lol.
What bothers me the most is that I get these Flash CC updates pretty often and each time I think it's fixed, it's not.
To add insult to injury when you get a Flash CC update through Adobe CC you'll see a link below the update that you would THINK would show you the changes that were made but it doesn't...it just goes to the default Flash CC webpage...sigh.
I personally think it's down right hilarious that so many paying customers could have an issue like this and Adobe just sits back and counts their money.
Guess our cries for help are being drowned out by the money counting machines...

  • When preview the timeline, audio will be noise.

    Hello.
I have an experiment to be placed in the timeline, the audio of different sampling frequency.
However, when previewing the timeline, you will hear a noise.
    48kHz based sequence + 48kHz footage = OK!
    44.1kHz based sequence + 48kHz footage = NOISE!
    I've created a sample project.
    Will you try someone?

  • Freezing Going from Preview to Timeline

I am editing together a video that involves a bunch of narration files alongside HD animations (720p) and when I select either the timeline or the preview window to cut clips before taking to  the timeline I get about 4 seconds of freezing before I can work again. It does not always do this so It really frustrating. I have no programs running besides premiere yet it does this. Anyone have this happen and know how to solve?
    Here are my specs
    8 Core Mac Pro 2.226Ghz
    16GB Ram

You have given us a start, but more info would be greatly appreciated. This ARTICLE will give you an idea of the type of data that will help.
Unfortunately, all of my "tune up" tips for an NLE computer are for PC's, so they would be moot here - sorry.
Good luck, and hope that someone can get you up and editing smoothly,

  • No preview of timeline project

I have a problem that I don't have preview window on the right side when working with my timeline.
Though I hear audio from the timeline point a mouse and I can see preview when I'm working with source video which is on the bottom
I tried to import videos from many different sources, changed all settings - nothing changed. And preview was before, it just gone once!
I have imovie11 and Lion. And there's a video explaining problem http://yfrog.com/nriahz, it's in russian but it's all obvious 'cause the video shows exactly what is missing, the preview panel is grey when my mouse on the left side

I somehow solved problem (but got another)
It were none of your reasons: Adv mode was on and trashing didn't help
I updated Lion to some new (minor change) version and reinstalled iMovie, it works now
Now I have another problem - with sound not picture
Importing a mp4 movie into project and it's looses quality of sound and even part of all sound - it's silence for 5 seconds in the end though source was with sound.
    I just don't get it

  • Windows 8.1/ No video preview in timeline, source pane or timeline pane.

I have just recently had to switch to a PC... Coming from Mac.   It has been over 7 years for me and this is my first PC without windows XP.   So... I have an Asus Laptop with an I7 2.5Gz, 8 GB Ram, 2 gig on board video.  Windows 8.1.
Brand new.  Just installed Premiere CC and I cannot get video to preview.  Either in the timeline, the source pane or in the main pane.  Nothing.  Installed QuickTime.  Still nothing.  No formats, MOV, MP4... Nada.
What gives?  Am I missing something?   Even went as far as dumping and re installing.  Classic windows, its broken, get out and get back in thing.
Not the files I am importing, as they work just fine on my Macbook Air.

    Hi,
Does your computer have Intel HD Graphics 4000 or above?
If yes, before importing any media go to File > Project settings > General and change the Video Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine software only and choose 'Delete previews' after clicking OK. Then import your footage and see if you still have the same problem.
    Thanks,
    Rameez

  • PreP crashes when rendering preview on timeline

    Hi,
I'm using CS3. PrePro crashes when I try to render a preview on the timeline. It was working fine, then a few days ago it started doing what I described. I was almost done with the project when this started happening. I'm still able to make an AVI of the sequences,...but of course that is not a solution. Any suggestions on how to fix?
    Thanks for your help,

  • Preview in timeline stops.

What am I doing to stop the ability for my timeline to preview. I hit the spacebar and nothing. All I can do is scrub the timeline, and I want to see small sections play.

I have dual monitors, but I was not aware that I turned it on.
I don't mean a second monitor.  What I mean is an external monitor connected (usually) by firewire.  Maybe a camera or a digital/analog converter like a Canopus ADVC-100?  Other possibilities are internal cards like Matrox or BlackMagic.
Right now, I have dynamic link working but when I close AE after I
am done I loose the picture of the clip in Premiere - al that is left
is the sound.  What Am I doing wrong?
Please post this new information in your Dynamic Link thread.

  • Video Lags Behind Audio in Preview Pane, Timeline and Rendered Video

    Hello,
I'm having an issue with a six minute video that I grabbed from the media browser in Premeire and am attempting to use in my timline.  The first few mins of the 6 minute video is fine, but as the video progresses in the preview pane the video starts lagging behind and finally towards the end is probably half a second behind.  The mp4 file plays fine outside the confines of Premeire.  I've tried reloading a new file, etc, but nothing seems to work.
Also, I uploaded another file that works fine.  No audio lag.  However, the file that works I grabbed from my Kodak flip camera, the file in question is from a Flipcam.  The file that works is a .mov.  As I mentioned, the file with the lagging audio is an mp4.  It seemed to work fine before in other projects.  Also, I noticed that lately that Premeire is a bit slow.  It wasn't as slow a week ago.
I'm using an iMac with a 3.6GHz Intel Core i5 processor with 4MB level 3 cache, 1 Terabyte of disk space, 4GB of ram, ATI Radeon HD 5750 graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory.
I'm not sure if there's some setting's that I'm missing or what.  I'm not very clear on capture settings when I open a project.  When I opened the project I was a little confused about what settings to use.
    Thanks very much.
    Jim

Maybe - any chance to check those files on a G4/G5/Intals Mac or a Windows PC? btw. at what speed is your G3 running?

  • How to preview my timeline on a LED TV

    Hi there,
I have just set up my new machine and today received delivery of a new LED TV for the purpose of playing back my project timeline. in my previous Windows XP setup I had a Matrox RTX 10 Capture card which allowed me to do this however when i tried to install it in my new system i found out that it wasn’t supported by Windows 7 and therefore no matter what i tried it wouldn’t install.
Does anyone know if there is another way around this with my current system configuration? Or are there any cheap cards out there that you can recommend? i don’t want the card for capturing or editing i only want it for playing back my timeline.
Hope this doesn’t sound too silly a question but i cant seem to find a solution.
    Any advice will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Rex.
    PC Specs:
    Premiere CS5.5
    HP Workstation Z400
    Windows 7 Pro
Nvidia Grforce GT 440 + HDMI Output
    2 X Asus 23inch monitor
Kogan 24inch LED TV + HDMI, USB, SCART, PC-IN VGA, COAX, YPbPr, Video, L in, R in

The problem is nVidia. It only supports dual monitor output, despite the three connectors. Only two can be active at the same time. There are a few options:
    1. Get another nVidia card that uses the same driver and use that one for the third display. Check carefully whether your PSU can handle that.
    2. Get a Matrox card, but that often goes with other problems, because their drivers are always out-of-date. Matrox stuff is best used for its designed purpose, as a doorstop. (When CS6 comes out, all Matrox stuff will be outdated and require a new card, but you have to wait at least 6 months for a stable driver version, IMO).
    3. Use the Scart cable to connect to a DV deck and output to an external device (only in SD format) over firewire to the deck and then over Scart to the TV.

  • Can't preview 1920x1080 timeline on HDTV via Sony HDV deck - help!

I am trying to play back from my 1920x1080 HDTV timeline (from FCP on MacBook) on an LG HDTV by connecting to a Sony HDV deck via firewire 800, and then going out from the deck via component to the tv – however, I am having problems not being able to get a clean video signal & it seems that the deck cannot process the video stream properly.  After scouring the internet and various forums, the only conclusion that I can reach is that because the HD video needs to be processed, it is impossible to properly view the footage back via this method without something like a Blackmagic Decklink card/conversion syste.  This is quite a big problem for me, as I will probably in the future have to use the same method just to play out to tape (on the HDV deck) and no matter what settings I have tried, it just doesn't want to work!
Any hints or tips to bypass this without the need for any other external hardware?  Would something like  a Mini DVI to VGA Adapter Cable help at all – we have one of those.

FW800 can't stream full uncompressed HD video, which is what the HDTV needs.  You need an HDMI connection.  You're going to need an AJA Knoa LHi or some other such card.  You may want to look into a less expensive option such as the MXO2 if you only want to see the image on an HDTV and not on a qualified Production Monitor.
Going from FCP back to the deck is a totally different issue and not a problem.  HDV is highly compressed so it can stream via FW connection.  FCP using the Print To Tape function will take your Sequence and send a native HDV signal back to your deck, just when it captured from the deck.
HDTV will not be good enough for evaluating image quality and color correction, FYI.  It will only give you an idea of what your vide will look like on that specific brand and model of HDTV.
DVI and VGA have nothing to do with what you're trying to do.  They are only for going out to a computer monitor (not the same as a TV) or a projection system.

  • After Effects Crashing on timeline Scrub & RAM preview

    I'm relatively new to AE.
    I'm working on an iMac (Late 2009, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5, 12GB 1067 MHz DDR3, ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB, OSX 10.8.4)
For the past two weeks, immediately following the successful completion of two small projects, AE CS5 began to FREEZE my entire computer (No error codes or beach balls of death) requiring a hard re-start.  So after attemping vaious 'fixes' found here & across the internet (closing OpneGl, unistalling & reinstalling, etc.), I took my computer to apple looking for answers.  After showing them the issue, they ran EVERY diagnostic they had & my computer came back ALL CLEAR!  It's even running better!  So I upgraded to CC & the problem continues.  I've EXCLUSIVELY used Adobe products (Ps, Fl, Ai, & ID) for the past 10+ yrs and have been sold till this AE issue.  I'm beginning to DESPAIR!  I've seen this concern referred as far back as CS3 & am praying that someone can help me ASAP as I've just received a Big contract TOTALLY dependent upon AE. I don't know if there's software conflicts somewhere due to an update (remember, it WAS working & I completed my first two projects with NO ISSUE AT ALL!)
    Please HEEEEELLLLLPPP!

Again thanx for the reply.  Please Bear with me as I'm REALLY trying to get this up and going again
    Ok, I've uninstalled:
Perian- tried AE-crashed when I scrubbed & RAM previewed
    DivX-tried AE-crash when I RAM previewed
    Skype-tried AE-crash when I RAM Previewed & scrubbed timeline
Wondershare-tried AE crash when I RAM previewed & scrubbed timeline
The only video apps I have now are VLC, QuickTime (which I can't unistall apparently), & Final Cut Pro-X, & AE CS5.  Any further instructions would be so GREATLY APPRECIATED!! I've just landed a HUGE contract with the local HighSchool dist as well as a job with a certain high-profile shoe company THAT IS TOTALLY DEPENDENT on my ability to use AE!!!

  • Unable to preview or edit clips on a Mac

    Hello,
I've searched these forums for hours and wasn't able to find a specific resolution for this problem on a Mac.
I am trying to edit a 1 1/2 hour performance (school talent show) for export to DVD.  I was able to start editing with no issues. Now, after a day's break, I can't preview the timeline or clips. I see still images of the clips and can scroll through the clip by moving the playback line.
    My system specs:
    PSE 9.0.1
    15" MacBook Pro:
         2.66ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
         4gb memory
         OSX 10.6.7 (latest)
    PSE File Storage
         2TB ext FW800 drive (1.4 TB avail)
Connected directly to the computer, no other drives attached
    NEC 24" IPS display.
The footage was captured on a Canon Vixia HFM300 and PSE imported as .mts files. I had a second camera rolling with footage I would like to edit in. That camera was a Panasonic HDRXCX100. These files imported in .mod format and have not been added to the timeline.
    Thank you,
    Ed

You say you can see and scroll through the clips but you can't preview them. (Needless to say, you should check your Mac to ensure that all the latest updates have been installed.) (Bill, the drivers are all updated when the Mac updates. No need to go to any third-party sourceswith OSX.)
So you're saying that you just can't play them at all -- or that when you play them you don't see anything in the Monitor?
In any event, part of the issue may be your system. AVCHD usually requires a quad core processor to edit.
Or it could be that you've overloaded your project. Or corrupted your project by loading the MOD files into it.
As an experiment, start a new project (make sure you've selected the AVCHD 1920x1080 stereo project settings). Add some of your Canon's footage. (Make sure to only use footage that was shot in FXP or MXP mode.)
Does everything work as it should?
BTW, as a good rule of thumb, you should only load about 70 minutes of video on a DVD. (Or twice that on a dual-layer disc.) Any more than that and you're going to need to reduce the quality to fit it all on.

  • Preview problem after close PREMIERE

    Hi everybody.
I´m using premiere pro cc 2014. It´s working perfectly when I create my project the first time, import my clips, audios and everything. I can work with no problems, but, after close the program, when I open again the last project to continue editing there is a lot o lag on preview.
All medias was loaded, there are no error, but the preview on timeline is terribly lag.
It just happened few days ago, could it be some update?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hello Sunny
The spacing issue, or print preview differing from actual output (with
actual output printing correctly) is a known issue.
The reason for the issue is that a new previewer for Smart Forms and
SAPscript is required and this is what is delivered in the
    aforementioned notes 1552498 and 1562096.
The existing solution can't gaurantee exactly previewed and printed
space intervals (due to the automated font's selection and stretching).
So this is where this new PDF Previewer is designed, to resolve the
issue you are seeing with the old regular print preview.
    Hope this helps,
    Jude
