Preview window has a " flipping frame "

Hi everyone,
I set up Color on my new iMac, it's working properly but the preview window, when I do any modification is playing one one black frame out of two.
That means I can't really see the adjusment i'm doing, because even when I'm playing/rendering the clip, that does the same problem. Actually it looks like a stroboscope effect on the video.
Otherwisen the rendered clips are okay.
I had a look on every user preferences, but didn't find my answer.
Does any one have an idea about how to fix this annoying default ?

Hello,
So I tried the rebellion's preference manager, without any sucess.
I tries to re-install it few times but it still didn't work out.
That is realy weird because the preferences are the same than my one on my Mac boo pro actually working.
That doesn't break my workflow because I still can use my old one, but that makes my iMac pointless wich is a pity cause that's one of the reason I got it !
If anyone has any idea..

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

Photoshop CC 2014. Pattern overlay preview window has schrinked

Strange issue here. The preview window in the layer panel for pattern overlay has schrinked down to just show one pattern. Can't scroll. Can't resize. Can't use patterns that is. The same thing is happening to the preview window in the gradients panel. It doesn't collaps all of a sudden, it becomes smaller and smaller over time. Anybody seen this?

Could you please post a screenshot to illustrate the issue?
Have you tried restoring the Preferences yet?

Premiere Pro CS4.2.1 preview window has become jerky (more details)

I am using a PC, Quadcore (Athlon II X4) 64 bit Windows 7, 4 internal Hard drives (all single partitions, NTFS), 8GB RAM. I am using Production Premium CS4. My graphics card is an ATI Radeon 4850 running the latest Catalyst drivers (or at least the ones from 3 days ago). I am using 2 TFT monitors, both running at a resolution of 1280x1024.
The hard drives are arranged as:
80GB windows drive (where CS4 is installed): 14GB free
500GB: Cache files stored here: 270GB free
2TB: raw footage for a new project: 844GB free
1.5TB: scratch files and all other project files stored on here: 204GB free
I put in a new Internal 2TB harddrive & installed a black magic plugin for some high def footage (the decklink software from www.blackmagic-design.com)
All preview playback in Premiere Pro has become jerky and unmanageable: only a few frames per second. Before installing the blackmagic plugin playback was smooth with all video sizes, now I can only achieve smooth playback with a tiny (~10% size) preview video.
I tried uninstalling the black magic plugin and changing catalyst control centre settings (regarding playback) neither of which worked. I tried to do a system restore on the windows drive, but this failed. I also tried disabling hard disk indexing for windows search in case this was having an effect, but it seems to have made no difference.
I have tried everything could find on message boards; old DV footage that was fine previously will no longer play smoothly it seems likely to me that this is a software configuration issue.
I have an ATI Radeon 5670 card which I'm going to try today. Other people have mentioned switching to nVidia cards, but I don't want to shell out for a new graphics card unless it is guaranteed to solve the problem once and for all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, if any more details would be useful then let me know and I'll post more information.

I've just removed a large number of temporary files, uninstalled a few unnecessary programs (e.g. nero) and have moved the swap space away from the OS drive to being spread over the other drives. I've disabled disk indexing, removed unnecessary windows services and run CCleaner. I also followed (most of) your guide on setting a system up for optimum performance.
I should note that Windows Media Player doesn't have a problem with playing large files, and so it appears the problem is localised to Adobe software.
The time taken to render DV footage has increased dramatically almost tenfold. This is something of a guess, but could Adobe be using the CPU to render video instead of the GPU?
This might not be relevant, but the timeline bar flickers when I'm previewing a video.
Disk space is now:
80GB:    43GB free
500GB:   255GB free
2TB:       696GB free
1.5TB:    349GB free
I tried creating a project that didn't use the 1.5TB disk, but it exhibited the same problem.

How do i get back my mail-Preview window?

My mail preview windows has vanished, and it has been bothering me to work without it for quite some time.
I have tried finding solutions on google, but none of them seem to be possible?
(there is no dot to click on, and i can't just pull it out from somewhere)
Can someone tell me what i seem to be doing wrong?

Double Click or drag the bar that's located on the far right of the mail window.
If your mail preferences is set to "Classic layout" then it's located at the bottom of the mail list window.

Print Templates print preview window closes unexpectly when printing document

I have raised an issue through Connect for this:

This looks to me like a problem in the IE Print Templates startDoc API call, but if there is a more appropriate forum to raise this issue in please let me know.
In the application where I use print templates, the window closing is not in it self a problem because the Javascript that is calling startDoc also closes the Print Preview window when the print is finished.
The fact that the application looses focus and can be hidden by the windows of other applications when the Print Preview window is closed by startDoc is the issue noticed by our customers, so I need a fix preferably, or a work around at a pinch.
Details of the issue reproduced below.
When using IE Print Templates, the startDoc function is causing the print preview window to close. This behaviour started with IE9, and is still present with IE11.
When an application is using print templates (see
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa753279(v=vs.85).aspx) for print functionality, this has the effect of causing the application to become hidden by any other application window once printing from the print preview window has started. It is
actually this behaviour that started me looking at this issue as the users thought the hosting application had closed.
Print Templates are not accessible by using IE as a web browser, but only when using the WebBrowser Control to embed IE in an application. The reference for this feature is available from this url:https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa753279(v=vs.85).aspx
and a sample Microsoft application that demonstrates the use of Print Templates can be used to demonstrate the problem (required for the reproduction steps). The application is available via this article and searching for "download spiffy".
Steps to reproduce the problem:
To see the full effect of the issue, first ensure there is a window from another application (like Windows Explorer) that will cover the sample applications window if brought to the foreground (making the Windows Explorer window full screen works).
Start the sample application (and ensure that the full screen Window Explorer is the next application to activate).
Then in the drop down box in the top right corner of the UI select Template8.htm.
Click the Print Preview button that is just below the drop down box (this will open a new Print Preview window).
In the new window click the Print… button (this will open a Print dialog).
Click the Print button at the bottom of the Print dialog.
The Print dialog closes (expected) and then the Print Preview window also closes (not expected), however the document is still printed successfully.
When the Print Preview windows is closed unexpectedly, the Windows Explorer window is brought to the foreground (obscuring the sample applications window).
If you reselect the sample application and click the Print Preview button again, the Print Preview dialog is not displayed unless you restart the application (this looks to be a symptom of the same issue, not a separate problem).
To see that the Print Preview window appears to be closed by the startDoc call, use the resource editor in Visual Studio (the exe can be opened directly by File | Open | File…) to edit the HTML resource "TEMPLATE8.HTM" (I found I needed to delete
it and add it back in for the change to stick), find the startDoc call and add two alerts, one on the line before and one on the line after. When IE is accessing the template, it is being done using the name of the executable (so do not rename the modified
version of printtemplates.exe, make the changes to a copy in a different directory if you don't want to change the original). Start the modified version of the application and follow the same steps as in the reproduction. This time, after clicking
the Print button in the Print dialog, the dialog will close, the first alert will pop up, then the Print Preview window will close, then
the second alert will pop up.

Hi Shu,
I have noticed that the print templates API is listed as part of the Legacy APIs.
Is this just because it hasn't changed or is not new? Or does this mean that it is no longer maintained and may be removed (or at least deprecated) at some point in the future?
It would good to know if we should start planning for the implementation of a different method of printing.
I understand that the sample application is no longer maintained, but I also think that the Print Template API that it uses has not changed, and so should still work (and it does mostly).
If the Print Preview window was being closed as a result of using the Print dialog (and if it had behaved the same way with IE8) I would be willing to go with the by design argument.
I have found that the Print Preview window is not closed until startDoc is called, and it closes before control is returned from the startDoc function.
Just as part of investigating and try to find a workaround, if I call window.close(), any alert calls made no longer display the alert window after the close call.
Alert still functions after startDoc has closed the window however.
The is not the sort of consistent behaviour I would expect from something that is by design.
Also while investigating, I found that calling startDoc after calling window.close() results in an exception with the error code -2147467259 (0x80004005), this is probably quite normal and expected, but does indicate that the Web Browser Control should
not be closed till after printing.
I had found that old thread, and I had concluded it was the same issue, but it was also aimed at different aspect of the problem (which I see in the sample application, but not my application).
The visible issue I have is that my users think the application has been closed because after clicking print (on the Print dialog) the application gets hidden by other windows from other applications.
This aspect affects the sample in the same manner and so it was a convenient way to demonstrate the problem.
If IE connect do not look at this issue any time soon, do I have any other avenues to resolve this issue?

These two things need to be remedied in their upgrades because It's become such a bother I've had to revert to older versions of PS.

Yea, and it's a pain to get to. What was the rational for removing the print size button? With the magnifying glass tool selected in older versions of Photoshop you would get a button that says "print size" right next to Actual pixels, Fit Screen, Fill Screen. Now I have to go out of my way and dig for it if I want to see the print size. Of all the buttons you could have taken away, why not fill screen? I never use that.
Besides the point I just downloaded the Oct Upgrade for PS and surprise! Nothing has changed and these are two big black eyes on newer versions of Photoshop. The Brush preview window is unchanged in CC but in CC2014 it's basically worthless. If you apply a texture to a brush you can't properly see the scale of the texture, the spacing, scatter, etc...

Final Cut Pro -- Preview window drops frames

this is quite annoying, basically the preview window drops frames and is quite slow? It seems the program window is unaffected. I have my local drive as the source drive and an external firewire drive as the scratch disk... Any further thoughts?

If you are talking about the Canvas and Viewer windows... make sure that their size is set at FIT TO WINDOW Top left button in the viewer and canvas window.
If you are talking about something else, please give us some more details.

Windows 10 technical preview installation has failed

Hi,
I currently use Windows 10 build 9860 on my computer and in another partition of my hard drive I have windows 8.1
Today I was trying to update my build trough the update and recovery>preview builds, but I was getting this error message: "Failed to install the new build, please try again later. 0x8024200D"
After that, I tried to download the offline .iso of the new build and running the setup, every was looking fine but when the installation got to 25% it came back to my desktop and a message appeared: "windows 10 technical preview installation has failed"
Any way that I can solve this?

I tried a bunch of different steps:
- Do a clean boot
- Use command WSReset.exe on run box
- Command prompt:dism.exe /online /cleanup-image scanhealth and restorehealth(When i use restorehealth gives me this error:0x800f081f)
- Create a new admin user and try to install update
- rename softwaredistribution
- Command prompt: powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.XML
None of this worked so far for me.

Is the Preview Window always an accurate representation?

CS3. Two issues:
1.
1920x1080 menu with 1920x1080 motion background(mpeg file). The menu file has an outline as well as drop shadow effect created in Photoshop.
However, in the preview window, the outline and drop shadow look different(see example). I realize I could get rid of the problem by collapsing the effect in Photoshop, but why do I have to? Some kind of scaling issue........?

I have a motion background to the menu. What's moving is a little circular blade to the left of play movie, which spins. It makes 2 complete circles in 20 frames. The 11th and 21 frames would look like the first. ( The reason the background movie is 2 complete spins looping(instead of one) is that Encore won't use any movie less than .4 seconds as a menu background.)
Anyway, the preview window doesn't show a smooth looping spinning blade. It kind of starts again after 20 frames of looping instead of going on continiously "forever", which is what I want. OR is this just a preview window problem which will go away at burning time.
Any ideas?

The Transition Movie DOES play if my burned DVD plays in my laptop computer's internal DVD player. It also plays unburned within the project/within the preview window in Encore.
The very same DVD does NOT play the Transition Movie if I place it in the external "traditional" non-computer DVD that is hooked up to my 32 inch LCD TV set. It skips over the transitional movie and goes right to the regular movie. It's like my TV's DVD player ignores it(the transitional movie).
So my transitional movie DOES play:
1. As part of the project, unburned , and in the Encore preview window.
2. After burned onto disk and on my laptops internal DVD player.
Transition movie does NOT play:
1. After burned and on my regular DVD player hooked up to my television

Video not fitting into preview window

Hello,
I have been running into a problem that I have not had untill I restored my computer a few months back. To start off I know my video files are in 720p and I have the sequence setting set accordingly. When I place the video files into the "Source" the full video is shown. However, Once the video is brought onto the timeline the preview window shows it much more expanded tot he point where only the very middle of the video can be seen. I have gotten around this in the past by dragging the corners in and copying the scale to every individual clip but it has become extreemly monotonous.
Any help would be much appreciated,

To start off I know my video files are in 720p and I have the sequence setting set accordingly.
No, they're not. They're 1440x1080; you can see that in the project panel. Functionally, they're 1920x1080 since they're HDV. So, you should be using a 1080i/p sequence preset... or you can use a 720p preset, but you'll have to scale the footage down to fit.
A quick way to create a sequence that matches your footage is to drag a clip to the New Item button at the bottom of the Project panel; it looks like the dog-eared sheet of paper.
If you want to use a 720p sequence, select all the clips and use the right-click > Scale to Frame Size option; optionally, you can manually scale one clip, and then copy and paste the Motion effect to all the other clips.

What happened to the preview window & Bridge icon?

In PSCS6, I don't have a preview window in the "Open" dialog box. In PSCS5, when I clicked on an image file, I had a thumbnail preview. Also, the Bridge icon in the toolbar disappeared, which was visable in PSCS5.

Lost two features, Photoshop has. The Adobe Jedi have waved hands and said, "these are not the features you're looking for".
You can conceivably put a Bridge icon on the desktop near where it used to be, and leave a little room outside of the Photoshop application frame where you can see it, or use the File - Browse In Bridge menu item, or Alt-Control-O (or the Mac equivalent if you're on that system).
If you're on Windows, you could consider getting a codec pack that will provide you thumbnail images right in the dialog and Explorer windows. I can recommend the one that I use: The FastPictureViewer Codec Pack.

RAM preview needs 2 or more frames to render playback - AE CC 2014

Hi everyone,
I'm having major issues with AE CC 2014 (13.0.0.214) on both Mac and Windows.
The dreaded RAM preview bug has been appearing at my office and home computer spanning 4 computers in all (so far) and it's really impossible to work in AE CC 2014 for more than 20 minutes without having to restart the app. I use a couple of plugins and scripts on my work computer (none of which are active in the scenes), but the same bug happens on my coworkers' computers despite being barebone AE. It also occurs on my Windows 8 PC at home.
What happens:
My co-workers and I animate, often with illustrator files, shape layers, and text. I animate, RAM preview, and repeat. After a certain point I'm no longer able to RAM preview without the warning message appearing about RAM preview and 2 frames. In addition, scrubbing through the timeline is very slow.
What I noticed:
Watching my activity monitor my memory usage builds up as I do my RAM previews and stays at the that peak level. Each time I ram preview or scrub through it increases more. Once it reaches the allocated memory for the program, in this case, 12 gigs, the warning appears and I have to restart to RAM preview again. Purging memory does not work and my memory usage is still maxed out.

It's happened on my Late 2014 MacPro, a 2013 MacPro, and 2012 MacPro. All running OS 10.9.4. And my i7 3770 16GB PC at home.
My Specific work computer specs 3.7 GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5. 16GB 1867 MHz DDR3 ECC.AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB. OSX 10.9.4 (13E28)
No firewalls running
I've tested it with all other apps closed and still am able to reproduce it

Memory-multi-processing disabled. Although same thing happens when enabled for renders and when also enabled for RAM previews.

I have tried disabling all plugins and attempting a normal workflow of editing 720p footage together, and adding solids and custom shape layers. Basic effects like fast blur and some motion blur but nothing too crazy. A memory dump doesn't do anything to solve the preview issue, and after a program restart everything works fine for a few more RAM previews. I also had no issues with the previous version of after effects CC. I always keep multiprocessing off, no ray trace 3d and I still get the issue after a system reboot and no other applications started (even after removing all startup applications from my preferences).
As a last ditch, I have removed any and all antivirus software and disabled all firewalls as I saw this as an answer to a previous but similar problem.
I too would love some help, as this is beginning to be a costly time waster. Let me know if you receive an answer for this one.

Preview window does not display video

When I drag a clip to the time line,it will not play in the preview window.If I click on the preview window during playback,it shows me a frozen frame of that scene in the clip.I downloaded the latest driver for my Nvidia GTS 250 and it in the preview window fine until I rebooted the computer and now back to the same problem.It just shows me a target in the middle of the preview screen to adjust the frame but no image.
Am I missing something here?

I have video footage that I downloaded to a
raid 0 drive (1TB) ,i7 -920,windows 7 64bit, from my old sony digital8 as mpeg2 format.Quicktime ver. is 7.6.9
I can play any of the footage fine inside the organizer window that has thumbnails .Just not in the edit window.Also I forgot to mention that the sound plays fine in the edit window.As far as presets go,should Elements 9 set to proper preset that you drag to the timeline?
What presets should I be looking for to play this footage?

Preview window stops working when skimming

I have a top end MacBook Air (i7 / 4Gb) and find iMovie 11 works very well on it.
However, recently I've been having problems with the preview window. I can be editing for some time when the preview window will just display the last frame that I played and stops displaying what I'm skimming with the cursor. If I start the playback again the preview window will work but once I stop it will not show the skim. If I quit iMovie and restart it, it all works fine for a while but eventually starts misbehaving again. I'm editing dozens of short clips into a 5 minute movie and working full HD resolution.
Has anyone else experienced this? Curiously I found a couple of archived threads from 2008/2009 (presumably with older versions of iMovie) which mentioned similar behaviour but no solutions.

Interestingly, having a minimized app makes no difference - the Alt key stops working when the last visible window is dismissed.
I've not reinstalled Gnome yet, but will give that a try.
