Previewing attachments

I was previewing attachments, pictures .png files, at least 30 or 40 of them and then all of a sudden I got an error message that
"this file cannot be previewed. try opening the file in the program in which it was created" and now I can't preview even the pictures I previously did.
What happened? What can I do?

Hi,
This issue can be caused by the temporary files, sometimes Outlook may not handle its temporary file folders well, so cleaning out the folder may solve this issue.

Cannot preview attachments in gmail

I recently upgraded to Firefox 4. Since that time I cannot preview .doc, .xls or .pdf attachments. I can preview small .txt files. I know this is not an issue with gmail because I can get previews in Safari. Using macbook pro with OSX 10.6.7. I look forward to hearing from you.

I cannot simply open/preview attachments, they always download

When clicking on a phrase of "clickable text" that links to a down-loadable document, I never see the URL of the document, and I would like to. I have been told that I should be able to see the URL if I preview/open the document instead of downloading it. However, I seem to have Firefox set up so that automatically downloads all documents and does not give me the option to merely open/preview them without downloading. Can I change this configuration, and if so, how?

So you don't receive any popup window asking you to save or view the document? The download just begins all by itself.
<b>NOTE: </b>Even if you select to only view the document, since Firefox has no built in Word viewer, you'll end up downloading it anyway. The only difference is that it will be downloaded into the temporary memory of your computer.

Download attachments & preview in Wiki not working in Chrome

We have a corporate wiki (OS X server 10.8) and users report that they cannot download or preview attachments from Chrome.
I have seen posts by other people online talking about this problem since Chrome v18. I am not running v23 and its still not working.
It is working in other browsers. I have however never encountered similar issues in Chrome on other sites.
Does anyone know if there is a workaround?
How can I find out if Apple are aware of this problem?

Cannot disable automatic attachment preview in Mavericks Mail?

Hello All,
I noticed after upgrading to Mavericks that Apple Mail started automatically previewing attachments again... I had disabled this in previous versions of OS X. I tried to disable this again in the terminal using:
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes
But after re-starting Mail, attachments are being automatically previewed again.
I consider this a security issue so I would like to disable automatic attachment previewing as soon as possible. Has anyone been able to do this with the Mail included with Mavericks yet?

Just a basic examplo: getting an email with an open image, that the 2 people around me can immediately see, can pose a serious security for anything I'm doing with my Mac!

That's a privacy problem, not a security problem.
If you are receiving images in emails that the others arround you are not qualified to see, your office setup is the security problem, not Mail.
Use a different email client that gives you the option. I have no idea what those are, though.

Attachment Preview

Is there a way to stop Mail from previewing attachments when composing emails? I would like to add an attachment without it interfering with the text.

Mail Attachments Iconizer is currently not compatible with Snow Leopard yet. While you wait for them to update, you can do this...
If you attach a jpeg and it displays in the body of the email, control click it and choose "View as Icon". This is tedious when you have multiple copies as you'd have to do it one by one.

Problems opening attachments from outlook

This week I have been unable to open attachments from Outlook 2010. I use Firefox as my browser and for some reason when I click on an attachment it is downloaded into Firefox. This has only just started to happen. If I try to open a PDF document I would
expect it to just open as a PDF rather than a Firefox download. How can I resolve this issue?

Might be you are working with disabled attachment preview option. Follow the given path and turn on it:
File >> Options >> Trust Center >> Trust Center Settings (under Microsoft Outlook Trust Center) >> Attachment Handling
If the above solution does not help, then change the default program for opening attachment. Make a right click on the PDF Document and select
“Open With” option. Choose the default program and set it to as
“Always the selected program to open this kind of file”.

Bullet Points & Attachment Preview

Just switched from Entourage to Mail in anticipation syncing w/ a new iPhone. However, when composing emails I can't figure out how to create a bullet point list in the body of the message.
Also, is there a way to configure your inbox to preview attachments (e.g. as in Entourage)?

Anyone know how to stop Mail from automatically opening and displaying attached pdfs, jpgs and other such filetypes when displaying a mail message either in the preview or the main reading pane?
If you work with 5meg pdfs a lot then this gets very tedious - it takes Mail ages to dump a distorted image into the mail text pane.

The only solution I can offer now, and which I am using myself, is a shareware called Mail Attachments Iconizer, it does what exactly you want.

Viewing attachments to PDF files in Preview

Hi all,
Sometimes files are attached to PDFs so that the attached file (spreadsheet, movie, whatever) comes along with the PDF. It's easy to see the attached files using Acrobat Reader (you click on the paperclip icon), but I can't figure out how to see them in Preview. Is this possible? Please note that I am talking about attachments within PDF files, not PDFs attached to emails!

I have exactly the same problem with PDFs containing bitmaps created by Illustrator CS3 (and CS4) -- the bitmap appears as negative.
It has to do with the compression method used for the bitmaps in the Adobe PDF creation. If it is JPEG or JPEG2000 the problem occurs, if it's ZIP or no compression, the image is fine.
If have reported this to Apple as a bug already.
10.6.2 has NOT fixed this behaviour.

Then most likely it is not caused by Adobe Reader.

Calendar attachments will not "preview"

Since upgrading to Mavericks, my attachments to the calendar come up "You do not have permission..." when I try to preview
a picture that was alredy attached to an entry before upgrading. Deleting the attachment and re-adding it only results in
"Preview" failing to display the attachment ( a jpeg) - Preview runs, but never displays the picture.

I am trying to capture from a point-and-shoot camera, the Canon ZR500.
Is this a still camera that can shoot video? If so, you will need to offload the files and convert them in another application, maybe something from Canon that only runs on a PC. Search for that camera model here on the forum, you may find some useful pre-existing threads.

At workcenter Incident management in the preview for service mesage for a part of users the list of attachments list to the message is not displayed. For some users attachments list displayed in preview.
I cannot find the reason of such behaviour of system. Prompt please from what visibility of the list of applications in the field of preview depends? It is regulated by what parametres?

I came across your problem while looking for a solution of mine.
It's very similar to yours, however, the preview of my single page pdfs are totally blank.
Again, if I click on the blank image and press the space bar to invoke quick look, the image displays just fine.
I have tried different things, like resetting mail, resetting preview and even re-installing the OS (not a clean install), but none of them worked.
I had similar issues before and realized that this seems to happen when installing alternative pdf viewer. But this is just a stab in the dark.
Any help is really appreciated.

It's a Finder feature, related to Quick Look. You can hit the space bar in the file list to get a preview.
If that doesn't work, you may have an issue witha preference file or similar. I find rebuilding the launch databse works quite well resilving tis kind of thing, as does trashing Finder preferences
