Previewing Chapter Playlist End Actions

I'm finding that chapter playlist end actions to return to a menu don't work the same if the end action is triggered from the 'end action' button rather than playing right through to the end point.
The end actions return OK to the menu, but the active menu item is mostly not correct if the return is triggered by the 'end action' button when previewing.
All works as expected if the preview is allowed to play through to the end.
Is this finger trouble, a glitch here, or a general issue?
CS3 under WinXP

Hello,
Everything is working.  I switched to another menu and everything works in preview and DVD.  I must have been missing something that I couldn't see because I am pretty sure it wouldn't be the menu's vault
I have another question if you don't mind.  Poster Frame for a video preview on button.  I will try to make clear:
I have play.all list.  First timeline in list is say team.photos.  I set the poster frame for that.
On the same menu screen I have a button just for team.photos as well.  the poster frame is the same as the one for the play all button.
Can encore have two distinct poster frames for the same timeline reference?
One work around is to import the same timeline and it will be team.photos 2.  You can then set the poster frame differently.  Is that the best way?
Also, since I am writing.  What is the easy fix when you have two columns of buttons ie
button 1       button 3
button 2       button 4
When I click down on my remote to go from button 2 to button 3; can't seem to figure that one out.  Sort of just getting into all the features.  Is that in the type: normal/next/ect.  area.  Currently my menu down button goes from button 1 to button 2 and stays in the same column.  I want to jump to column 2 by pressing the down button on the remote
Any thougths would be great.

  • Chapter playlist end action not working right

Using Encore CS4 I have created nine sub-menus and each one contains a Chapter Playlist assigned to a button. The submenu's are titled by year starting with 2002. The problem I am having is that no matter what I set the end action or override to all the sub-menus return to the 2002 sub-menu. I have tried all the options for end action and override: return here, stop, link back to that same years sub-menu, stop, return to last menu and they all return me to the 2002 sub-menu.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

Please outline how you want the finished DVD to behave.  You'll help yourself out *a lot* if you hand-draw (with pencil and paper) a flowchart that shows how you want the audience to get from here to there and back again.
Until you do that, you will struggle with your disc's navigation.
That said, there are always several ways to achieve your navigation goals.  Your existing design may work once all of the overrides are removed.  You still haven't described what happens when you change all of the overrides in the project to Not Set.

  • Chapter point End Action not working

I'm creating a a training DVD in which one timeline has several spots where the DVD should pause while the class discusses the scene that has just played. I've added 5 seconds of black to mark those spots, and at the beginning of the black I have a chapter point that has an End Action to go to a menu with a "Continue" button. At the end of the black I have another chapter point that the "Continue" button links to. On one of the point that route to the "Continue" menu, it doesn't route to the menu, but just jumps back to the last chapter point...essentially looping that section. It doesn't do this when I "Preview" from the main menu...all works correctly there, but when I Build the project to DVD Folders and play on my PC, that's when it happens.
    Steve Brame

Nope...no overrides are set. I have several other chapter points on the timeline that are set up identical to this one, and they link correctly to their respective menus...only this one didn't. I deleted the point and recreated it and now it works. I'd noticed several other Chapter Point issues here that were solved by this action.
    Thanks!

  • General Error or Crash using menu button on chapter playlists

This is my first complex project in 2.0 - I needed to have approx 120 clips playable individually from a series of still menus. Given the 99 timeline limit, I created a number of timelines and placed batches of clips on them. I'm then using individual chapter playlists to reference each clip. The chapter playlist is linked from a menu button.
When using the menu remote button when a chapter playlist is playing, I either get an 'abnormal condition' error, or occasionally, Encore crashes with no message at all. Tried this with no menus, timelines and playlists open but same errors.
    More detail:
    PAL 16:9 project
    28 timelines
    65 chapter playlists
    15 still menus
approx 120 mpv clips and associated wavs (mpv encoded with cinemacraft encoder sp)
Settings for one of the clips giving problems:
Timeline - end action not set, menu remote - return to last menu, all ops permitted, no chapter end actions
Chapter playlist - end action - return to last menu, override not set, menu remote - return to last menu, all ops permitted.
I think I can stop the errors and crashes if I disable the menu remote button - but I don't really want to do this.
Any ideas what's going on? Is it a bug(S)?
    Thanks,
    Paul.

    Paul.
The trouble I had was the "Abnormal Condition" error when hitting the menu remote button in preview.
There was no problem with Prev/Next buttons though.
I tried burning a disc too, just to check if it would burn true & just played up in preview - but no dice. What happened was the player froze up solid after pressing the menu remote.
I did create another project where the chapter playlists numbered around 28 from a single timeline, and this actually worked as it should do, so I suspect an issue in Encore's internal stacks where this is all addressed.
I had to use a different application in the end.
I believe the reason yours is still failing is simply because despite having 5 timelines, you are still well over the number of chapter playlists that seem to be available.
It's a nasty bug - but apparently a fix is in the works. Hopefully we will see this as a maintenance release - we got these with both earlier versions (1.01 from 1.0, and 1.5.1 from 1.5) so I am hoping it will happen.
There are a couple of issues I have noticed - although this is so far the only one I cannot work around in my projects.
One thing has just occurred to me that might help you here.
Instead iof using a chapter playlist to reference each clip, save these for multiple clips that need to be accessed, and from your chapter menu, just point directly to the clip in question.
Set an end action for each clip to revert back to the menu that called it, and create just a single chapter playlist for a "Play All" situation.
This will greatly reduce the number of chapter playlists you are running - and should do the job for you.

  • In Encore I get an error in the check project window of "can't execute end action because of final chapter marker"

I have imported a project to Encore and while it worked the first time, this time I get an error in the check project winder of can't execute chapter 2 end action because of final end marker?  I have two different sections that have buttons on the menu.  When you get to the end of the first sequence I need it to go back to the menu and it is saying that it can't because of the end action on the final marker.

The 'unable to locate' message means that you don't have those music files on that computer, or that they are not where iTunes is expecting them to be. How did you get the entries for those tracks in your new computer's iTunes ?
If you still have your old computer then you can try copying them over again : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
You may also be able to re-download them from the store (checking for available downloads only checks for items that have not yet been downloaded, not for past purchases) via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (re-downloading music isn't possible in all countries). You may need to delete them form your library first (where you are getting the 'unable to locate' message), otherwise iTunes will assume that you still have them somewhere and won't let you re-download them.

  • Chapter end action triggers General Error - Help please!

Hi, I am working on a project and have come to a big problem in the last hurdle, classic! Really need your help, experts!
I have 2 Timelines, each one with 6 audio tracks and 2 subtitle tracks
One of the timelines is longer than the other one because it has two different films in it.
Everything was working fine until I realised I had forgotten to set the end action to the last chapter of the first video in the timeline, I need it to either stop or return to main menu or last menu, otherwise it will go on to play the second film and i don't want this to happen.
When I set the end action to the chapter 10, it looks fine, I check and no problems.
But when it starts transcoding... after a bit, when it has transcoded all the languages it goes to prepare to build and I get GENERAL ERROR and it freezes.
Please please please if somebody can help me it would be very much appreciated.
    Mariana
ps I have no overrides or anything like that in the whole project

Please list the Assets on each of the two Timelines with full detail. A screen-cap of each would probably be very useful and save you some typing.
Some things to also think about is are there any spots where your Audio is longer (even very slightly) than the accompanying Video? Are there any gaps on any of the Timelines? When you added that "End Action," exactly how/where did you add it? Also, if you have any Chapter Playlists, or Playlists, please give details on those.
Note: to attach the screen-caps, us the little "camera" icon on the editing screen:
    Good luck,

  • Error message encore cs5 end action can't execute on the final chapter point

Dvd plays great. Exported it as a mpeg 2-dvd,  video only. Audio separate as a .wav. imported video as a timeline, audio as an asset. Video is not transcoded.
But I have a sub menu, with 6 chapter markers. I check the project and I get this: "error message encore cs5 end action can't execute on the final chapter point"
Do I need to make a chapter playlist? Because that gave me a "orphaned playlist" error message.
I selected the last chapter masker and had the end action go to the sub menu.
    Thanks!

Saw a previous thread where bill hunt said it ignore it and try to burn a copy.

  • Chapter playlists ok in preview, not on burned disc

one long soccer timeline of 66 minutes, chapter playlists set up properly, all ok in preview but out of 15 chapter playlists, 4 do not work on burned disc...tried making image then burning on different media...no change....remade project from start and different playlists now not working...returns to proper menu but not at end of chapter, on TV dvd display chapter has appropriate time remaining but disc jumps to menu wrongly.....if i fast forward dvd it sticks for a second at point where it wrongly returns to the menu then continues in fast forward mode  ....all playlists set up the same, links are right...

    Dan,
Can't thank you enough for taking the time to hazard a guess about my problem.
I'm a real newbie with regard to video editing, so not conversant with much of the language, but all of the movie's clips were recorded in 16-bit stereo and the resulting DVD was played back through my television, which is a widescreen playing through its own speakers. I think the pertinent information, however, is that everything in the movie plays perfectly with the exception of this one clip, which was produced in exactly the same way as the rest of the movie. The one difference is that we used a different microphone for this clip. But again, this clip, like the rest of movie, plays fine when being previewed in the computer. Go figure.

  • 'End Action' not working in Hardware player when chapter skipping. Suggestions?

Hey all. I am building a 2 disc BD set of my old band and have everything built using Encore CS5. The majority of functionality is working correctly however, I have a couple nagging issues that I can't seem to figure out. I am getting different results when simulating in Encore and testing on a hardware player (Panasonic BDT210, and PS3).
    - The first disc has 10 buttons on a single menu page. The second disc has 1 menu page with 3 sub pages (4 total). Each button plays a different clip. At the end of media (End Action), it is supposed to return to the main menu with the button highlighted. Here's the kicker: When simulating in Encore, each clip plays through and returns to the main menu correctly, whether playing through, or chapter skipping through to the end. However, when playing back on a hardware player, all clips return correctly when playing through. But 3 out of the 10 clips on disc 1, and 2 out of the 7 clips on disc 2 will NOT return when trying to chapter skip out. I keep getting a player error stating "this option is not allowed" and you have to watch the remainder of the clip to the end, or Top Menu out. In each of the 5 clips, all chapters work but you can't skip out.
It doesn't seem to be a problem with the amount of chapters because some only have one, and some have up to 8. I double checked the "End Action" settings for every clip and they are set correctly. Plus everything works in Encore but not on disc. Why is there a problem with some clips and not others? They are all encoded the same.
Any help for this would be great. I work in the industry and it's frustrating when you can't figure out something simple like this. Thanks.

Could you post a screen shot of the flowchart window showing all the links and navigation?

  • Adobe Encore CS4: End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point

    Error screen:
Error I’m getting for section titled Notes (PP 45 second video): “End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point.”
The icon that shows error is in top line second from end.  I’m trying to 'end action' that portion of the video by going back to 'menu default'; also tried end action w/ ‘Stop’ and neither work.
I saw a post about checking timeline.  Not sure what I’m looking for there.  I have nothing in Orphanage area.  I also tried building despite Check Project error and it will not build project.  Any suggestions on how to fix: “End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point.”?

Select chapter one on that timelne. Look in the properties panel. Does it have an end action? You do not want an end action on the chapter; just on the timeline itself.
That will not generally prevent a build, however. So you may have other issues.

  • End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point

I will be referring to this video:
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-encore-cs4/creating-an-event-dvd/
I followed this exactly, except for the slide show (and I made a DVD instead of flash), but when I checked the project, I get the error message "End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point".
I don't understand.  I did not change any end points except for the one specified in this tutorial.  (About the Max footage for the very beginning, before the menu).  If anything was added, it was Adobe's doing.
I do notice that in 00:04 in the tutorial, there's a downward arrow on the very end of the timeline.  My timeline does not have this.  How was this done?
In the Encore software, after the timeline is loaded, there is no arrow at the very end.  Mine doesn't have that either.
I'm finding Adobe/Encore's way of making menus rather difficult.  With Pinnacle Studios (at least through 8-12), making menus was easy, and it set up the chapters for you.  Why can't there be an automated menu feature in Encore?
    Anyway, here's my project:
Main time line has 9 chapters. When clicking on their chapter points, all say End Action: not set.
When I click on the white bar above the lite purple footage of the time line, where the chapter point's bottom rest, it says, End Action: Not Set AND Menu Remote: Return to Last Menu.
All 9 chapter points are white.
In the flowcart, there is the DVD icon --> my few seconds opening credits --> menu that has a Play All and Scene Selection button
Play All goes to first chapter of video
Scene Selection (submenu #1) goes to 6 scenes, a next, previous, main menu.  All seem to be linked properly.
Scene Selection for scenes 7-9 are in the #2 submenu.  Has a previous button and a main menu button.   All seem to be linked properly.
Can anyone offer any advice?  Help?  I need to make this DVD and two others by the end of the week!
If you need more information, please let me know that too.

If I make a change in the timeline in Premiere, will that new change be reflected in the timeline of Encore?
If you used Adobe Dynamic Link, then yes, the Timeline will be updated. If you did not, then you will need to Export again, then Import into Encore. Watch out if you have already Transcoded, etc., and I'd name the new Timeline Export differently, Import that, use Replace Asset. When a Project is very new, and nothing much has been done, it will not be so picky. After a couple of links, etc., it gets VERY picky, and Replace Asset will help.
Is there a way to reload the project without having to redo all the menus and links?
If you did a Save_As, or still have your original Project, i.e. you started a completely new Project with a unique name, you can go back to the original.
    Hope that helps,
    Hunt

  • Delayed chapter end action

Having end actions available for all chapters is a great advance - but I seem to have a problem with it in practice. The clip keeps playing for a second or two after the chapter point before responding to the end action. This happens regardless of whether the clip is playing or whether you skip forward through the preceding chapters to the one with the end action.
I can sort of adjust the position of the chapter point to allow for this, and I think it is slightly better if I put 2 end chapter points the minimum legal distance apart (both with the same instruction) and of course I could edit the original video so this flaw (if it is one) would not be so noticable (but really this would require a separate edit for the 'play all' version - which would defeat at least half the benefit) - but I wonder if ther is a better solution?
    Cheers,
    Malcolm

    Hmmm...
Are your source files .m2v or are you letting Encore transcode non-mpeg files?
    .m2v
If you're letting Encore transcode, then are you adding the chapter markers after background transcoding using the Transcode Now command?
No, all files are encode from the PPro timeline with chapters named and in place. (I have since tried moving them back a bit on the Encore timeline and added a 'second stop' where Encore allows - but this is only after encountering the original problem)
I'm asking a lot of questions because I haven't seen the behavior you describe.
No problem - thanks a lot for your help.
If your source files are already transcoded .m2v or .mpg files, then this may be a chapter placement issue. Once a file is transcoded, Encore can only put chapter markers at GOP headers (I-frames). Since PAL(?) I-frames are about a half-second apart, you could be getting chapter markers in the finished DVD that are not where you thought they were. NTSC works the same way.
I understand this but it shouldn't be a problem if the chaapter points are put in on the PremPro timeline? (btw this was a PPro 1.5 project - I guess I could try it in 2 as well?) We work in PAL (and ony convert to NTSC if needed - it wasn't in this case).
    Cheers,
    Malcolm

  • Creating Chapter playlists and deleting them

I'm trying to learn how to play a whole video with one manu button and play chapter of the same video with chapter buttons.
I see it posted here in several places that one needs to make a chapter playlists for each chapter.
But that I guess it means if you have 4 chpters, to do:
file/new/create new playlist, 4 times. And put one chapter on each.
I found creating them is easy but made mistakes on them once created like inadvertantly adding a second chpter. I managed to do this several times on several different playlists. I see no way to get rid of them. Or even see them. Once a new one is created where do the others go?
window/playlist viewer shows a screen that says there are no playlists but the end action list shows several of them as does the `work flow' view.
Niether place appears to offer a way to delete or edit them.

    Harry Wrote:

    > Are you talking about the buttons in the menu or the chapter markers in the timeline? You set end actions for the chapter markers in the timeline.

    > If my method is giving you a headache trying to figure it out and you find yourself spending more time than you'd like, perhaps your original method of using one chapter playlist per chapter and no chapter end actions at all would be a better solution for you. As I said before, they are functional equivalents on the finished disc.
    Buttons in the menu...
No it wasn't your method which seems like a good one.
Its more a problem of deep seated stupidity here.
I Previewed from a chapter button but let it finish (it was a very short chpt) instead of hitting the `end action' button.
When one lets the previewer finish, it just stops, never returning to menu.... my error.
But still I thought I remembered the chapter buttons having end actions available in previous attempts here. I see I've confused what one sees in proprerty screen when clicking a timeline in project windo w with what one sees in properties window when clicking a button.
Of course it is the timeline played by a button that has an `end action' not the button itself.
Thanks for taking the time to help... I think I might have it now.

  • End Action not working

    Hi.
    Encore 4.0.1.048
I noticed that the end action of a menu doesn't work properly. It pounts to a timeline, which never shows.
    This was tested with ...
    1. CyberLink PowerDVD 9 Ultra
    2. MediaPlayer Classic
    3. The actual DVD (DVD-9)
    The structure looks like this:
Timeline (first play) -> general menu -> movie 1 menu -> movie timeline
The link between "movie 1 menu" and "movie timeline" dowsn't work properly.
    1. PowerDVD revers back to "general menu"
    2. MediaPlayer goes black
    3. The actual DVD just stops playing the DCD.
    Is this a known bug?
    Thanks,

Chapter Playlists do not work with Blu-ray disks - this is mentioned in the Release Notes for Encore CS4, so one is stuck with overrides.  Unfortunately nothing is said apart from the bald statement.  As to whether it is a feature of Blu-ray or a feature of Encore I do not know the answer.
I have posed this question to Adobe Support, but as ever I do not have much hope of a valid answer.  I expect that I shall spend much of my time re-stating that I do know how to start my computer, open a project in Encore, etc, etc.!
In my own case I want to do with Blu-ray what I have done many times in the past with DVD; have Play All for a single timeline on the main menu, a link to a sub menu which has buttons for each chapter.  Each chapter plays when selected, and at the end of the chapter you are returned to the sub-menu.  this works in Encore preview using overrides on the buttons, but I cannot get a disk produced from this to work in a player.

  • End action doesn't work

Okay, it doesn't matter what I do end action doesn't work. Here's the situation. I have three timelines. The Title for starting, the main video, and the credits rolling at thend. When the Title timeline is done playing at the end, it should go to the main video and the main video timeline is done, it should go to the credits but it's not working. In each of the End action of three timelines, I did specify where it should go next. But this doesn't work. So I try to specify where it should go next on the End Action of the last chapter for three timeline but that doens't work either. So I tried specify in the last chapter and also the timeline end action and nothing changes during preview. Please help.

Stupid question:- what exactly does the override do? Override the remote control action, or the end action or both?
Linking each chapter to the next, and the next timeline, allows for the whole project to play continuously, but the end action on the final chapter is always messing things up.
