Previewing epub in adobe digital editions, it says "author unknown"

I filled in all the metadata in InDesign (CS5.5), exported to epub, opened to preview in Adobe Digital Editions. All looks good, except it says "author unknown." Does anyone know about this? How to get "author  name" to show up?

Thanks, Steve. Since I'd naively applied styles after having created the indd book, I'd had to apply styles to each doc. in the epub files, so now I've put the metadata into each of those files, and lo and behold, now the author name shows up in ADE. Much thanks for the tip.

  • Adobe Digital Edition - need help authorizing NOOK

I have a new computer - I have downloaded the ADE software and my library books are appearing in the ADE library but I cannot drag them into my nook.  The message said NO PERMISSION TO COPY THE BOOK.  HELP

Have you registered ADE the new machine with the same AdobeID as you were using on the old machine, and are presumably using on the Nook if library books used to work?
You may need to deregister whatever is currently registered on your new ADE, using ctrl-shift-D (cmd-shift-D on Mac).  Restart ADE and register with your old ID.

  • How can I fix Adobe Digital Editions from crashing on opening?

I open Adobe Digital Editions it says "Verifying Documents" after a minute or so it crashes. What can I do?

Ain't supposed to do that - and doesn't in a lot of installations.
But let's have more information:  What computer system (Windows x or MAC)?
What anti-virus and firewall if you're on a PC?  What version of the
software?  Did you register with Adobe before downloading the software and
    installing it?
All of these factors will be important to answering your question.  If
you're a Windows person, then the anti-virus settings could be causing a
problem.  If you didn't register with Adobe before installing the software,
you could have problems, and so on.
I'm looking forward to the challenge of this puzzle.

  • Can I de-authorize an account on Adobe Digital Editions, or authorize more than one account?

I have Adobe Digital Editions, and had authorized it to an email account that was hijacked and later deleted.  Now, I want to change to a new account, and it WILL NOT admit that it is possible to do so.  I even tried uninstalling and re-installing Digital Editions, and it still insists that it's authorized to a dead account.
Can I undo this?  I'd like to check out ebooks through my library, and can't without authorizing Digital Editions to my current email.

If you don't have any bought books from the old account you still want to use,
probably easier to make a brand new Adobe account to your current email than to mend the old account.
ctrl-shift-D should deauthorize the account ADE is currently using.
If you have devices linked to the old account, use ctrl-shift-E to ADE while the device is plugged in.

  • InDesign CS5.5 EPUB export not showing cover image in Adobe Digital Editions

I have a document that I am trying to ensure is reflecting the cover image prior to uploading to several EPUB sites like google and Barnes and Noble. I am using Adobe Digital Editions, Calibre, Firefox (EPUBReader) to do the troubleshooting on the document. Calibre shows the cover image Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) does not. Are their any known problems with ADE not reflecting the cover image that I need to be aware of before I continue working on this?
The ADE help says the following:
"Once the items are in your library, there are two ways to view the content of any bookshelf. You can view thumbnails of your items. The thumbnail is the cover page of the item (or just the first page if it doesn't have a cover page). In this view, you see the set of thumbnails and some information about each item (author, title). You can also sort the order in which the items are shown by author, title, date created, number of pages, and so forth."
Here is basic informaiton. I have a cover page in my export to EPUB but ADE will only show the first page. Again Calibre shows the cover page.
    CS 5.5
The project is a book (indb) composed of multiple documents (indd)
Exporting as book as an EPUB
On general tab I am "Use existing image"
I am rasterizing the first image in Indesign via the "Object - Object export options" but I am not selecting that option when on the general tab of the Export to EPUB options. I am chosing a file from my disk. I thought that maybe the file name was too long but I changed the image to "cover.jpg" and reexported it but it still does not work.
Here are the contents of the content.opf file with all the pointers. I have updated the file as I believe you can tell with guides, creation date, etc....
    It passes the SIGIL check.
The image name is Democracy in Business Dust Jacket 300dpi.jpg. It is 300 dpi and 1650 x 2550. I could also cut in the one that I did for cover.jpg but it only replaces the file name.

I have also been trying to get this cover image to display on PC for NOOK but it appears that everyone is having hits problem too. I have followed some trouble shooting guides and renamed the jpg image, Democracy in Business Dust Jacket 300dpi.jpg to cover.jpg but that doesn't seem to work either for NOOK.
Any help you can give would be appreciated. I am new to InDesign (I know you probably hate hearing that, but I have gotten so close to being done overcoming all the new user hurdles). I think this is my last one before uploading to the appropriate sites - PS. I got the cover page to show up on the Kindle but not Adobe's own product.
    Thanks

ebookjunkie, I have just used InDesign to publish two very short "books" (.99 cent variety) and started this thread with the first question. Look to Bob for the expert advice. This is neophyte advice from someone moving from publishing a full book using Word to EPUB/Kindle and now using InDesign to publish to EPUB/Kindle.
First ADE is useless. I say this out of frustration of trying to use it to troubleshoot problems and it has so many problems in displaying an EPUB that you spend a lot of time troubleshooting ADE issues rather than EPUB problems. The problems are not limited to but won't display a cover page properly, text wrapping is iffy, Drop caps a problem, bringing over supported items like drop caps, all small caps, etc.... are also issues as best I can tell. Humble opinion is delete off your desktop. I use the following to troubleshoot my EPUB's/Kindle books on my Windows platform; Calibre, Barnes and Noble's Nook for PC and iPhone iTunes for EPUB (Sigil to look for errors); and for Kindle, Kindle previewer and Kindle for the PC. Even after doing this, I just today saw my book a buyer's Android "Reader" and the pictures did not display at all. So it is publish once and test everywhere! Unfortunately, you just can't test all the possible devices and iterations of readers. (I am from IBM and we couldn't do it, so how publishers are supposed to figure it out is beyond me!)
On the absolutely great news end, you will see a lot of problems about placing images on the iPad with a lot of workarounds. They apparently (Apple) have fixed this as my two publications show images nicely now on both the iPhone and iPad with the iTunes bookshelf/reader. They were "microdots" when viewed previously. I did nothing to fix it and was just not going to publish to the iPAd and just tested them a few weeks ago and they display perfectly. So Apple has fixed the problem. If it looks good on the Nook for PC, it should look good on the iPAD/iPhone now as best I can tell.
    Cheers

  • Why is EPUB not downloading to adobe digital editions anymore?

I have Adobe Digital Editions and have downloaded EPUB from online bookshops previously but all of a sudden they won't download and the following message comes up "Connection Error Detected - Digital Editions couldn't connect to the fulfillment server, Please make sure you are connected to the internet" - I AM connected to the internet. I looked for updates to the digital editions but couldn't find any.
If anyone could help - The online bookstore say the problem is not at their end.

    Hi,
I looked at the link and it didn't work. I have uninstalled digital editions and reinstalled it and it still didn't work. I clicked "unblock" on the properties of the file concerned and it still didn't work. Any further suggestions would be appreciated if you have any.

  • Epub export indesign launches 'itunes store' not Adobe Digital Editions 2.0

How can I set Indesign to launch Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 as my default epub preview reader?
Mr Fox sir! I am trying to make a book for nook sir! Not an ipad, that would not do sir!

    Dear Ellis,
I have been using paragraph returns for the spacing but I will try adding the Space before/Space After feature to see if that works better.
I'm taking my text from other word processing documents and shortening/breaking the paragraphs into smaller units for easier reading in ePub. It's easy and natural for me to hit a paragraph return where I want to break and form a new paragraph, and then insert a forced line break -- but I can try your suggestions.
I was just wondering why the system worked for me when reading on the iPod but Adobe Digital Reader did not seem to recognize the forced line break at all  and only recognized the paragraph return if it was inserted AFTER the forced line break and not BEFORE it.  Inserting the paragraph return AFTER the forced line break makes everything work on both units.

    Hello Community,
I am working with InDesign CC 2014.1 and Adobe Digital Editions 4 (ADE).
I am developing a FXL epub. When viewing the exported epub with ADE the buttons don't work.
I also tried to view other epubs as the one mentioned in this thread: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1684411

    Thanks in advance.

ADE is not a very good FXL EPUB reader. Try iBooks, Readium for Chrome or Kobo.

Sydneybling it does sound like your security software is interfering with the process of installing and utilizing your Adobe Creative applications.  I would recommend that you try temporarily disabling your security software and utilizing the directions listed at Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html to install InDesign CC.
