Previewing loops

Have had no luck with PCs trying to do music recoding so I swithced over to Mac because I heard it so easy, seamless, and problem free. Now, on opening Garageband for the first time and trying to preview loops I get an error mesage that says: "the software instrument or apple loop selected is currently being installed. You have already initiated the installation of additional content for Garageband via Software update. For additional information please open the software update application." I have opened this application and nothing. I have now spent about two hours trying to fix this problem. Should I "convert back to PC, take this load of crap back to the store or is there something simple I am missing?

I have found if you wait long enough, you will hear the file begin to play. Sometimes the delay can several seconds. Not acceptable IMO.

Preview loops in their native key & tempo - Can it be done?

Sometimes I just want to browse my loops to hear what I've got -- not for a particular song. In this case, listening to a loop transposed and sped-up/ slowed-down just gets in the way. And changing the key and tempo of the open project all the time is just a huge hassle.
I have tried various modifier keys (control, option, command, shift) while clicking the loop to preview it, but it still plays in the key and tempo of the project. Ack!
Is there a way to listen to a loop in its original key & tempo?

I use the Finder to preview files in their native key and tempo. You could spend a few bucks for AudioFinder to preview your loops. If I had a few extra dollars I would buy that application just to preview and manipulate loops outside of Garageband.
I have gotten used to previewing with the finder, it alows me to quickly trash a loop I know I'm never gonna use.

Soundtrack Pro preview loops and non-loops are cut-off

I need help with this issue.
When I am going through the loop library/libraries, I click in a loop and it used to preview without an error, I am not sure when this happen, but now if I click in any audio clip from the loops and mixes libraries (about 7500+) clips, .aif and .caf audio files, in the library, all I get is half a second if not any preview.
When I open the clip, and press play, it seems to be choppy as well. it plays through but skips or pauses for a fraction of a second, but enough to know that it is not playing flawlessly.
I am not sure if this happen after installing the last Pro update or the 10.5.4 update.
I also have FCP and Motion, those applications seem to not have any issues.
Is there a way to reset the whole STP?
I am not sure all locations where the preferences are, I tried deleting all the libraries, and adding them later, that didn't work. I deleted the one preferences in my user preference folder, but that didn't do anything either.
Any help would be appreciated.

You may need to rebuild the loops index.
Open up Logic and display the Loops Browser
Open up FInder and locate the folder containing the loops as you describe
Drag the loops folders onto the Loops Browser
That will rebuild the index and all should be well.

Firefox preview loop of SHTML files

OK, got one I have not ever seen before and cannot find any solutions for. Suddenly, and with no changes to firefox or dreamweaver, when I create a .shtml file and try to preview it in firefox, I get an endless loop of tabs as though it is trying to open the file but just can't. None of the tabs actually open the file. It seems to be restricted only to firefox and shtml files. If I preview a html or htm file in firefox it is fine. If I open a shtml in explorer it is fine. I have also able to view shtml files that are already on the internet fine as well, so seems to be limited to the preview function. I have tried reinstalling firefox and that did nothing. This one has me completely lost. Any ideas would be of huge help. I am trying not to reinstall dreamweaver as I have about 50 sites in there and is a major pain to backup and reinstall it all. Hello,
In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Go to ''Tools'' > ''Options'' (or ''Firefox'' > ''Options'').
#In the Options window, select the ''Applications'' tab.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right handside you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.

Problem previewing loops in the loop browser in Logic 8

Loops are only audible when the sequencer is not playing.
When the sequencer is playing, the selected loop shows it's playing in the loop browser window, but I cannot hear it.
ANY ANSWERS?
NOTE:
All my outputs in logic (including the loop browse strip) are routed to SPDIF OUT as I have a DynAudio digital speaker system.

Previewing Loops in Logic 8

I have the core audio box checked and it shows my Digi 002. Dae is not checked. I can click on a loop and they play through the last audio object in my enviornment. BUT... When I play audio in the arrange window and then click on a loop in the media browser, I can't hear them both at the same time. Only the audio in the arrange window. If I hit stop on the transport and then click on a loop in the browser, I can hear it. What am I doing wrong? I would love to be able to audition the loops as the arrange window material is playing. I'm using the digital outputs 17-18 on the Digi 002.

Loops in Library Lag Behind Playback

Hi, I'm a Logic Express newbie.
Things seem to be working pretty well, but whenever I play a composition and try to select Loops in the Library for previewing in realtime, the loops each take about 5 seconds to start playing. When I have nothing playing, the loops play instantly.
Is this normal behavior? In Soundtrack and GarageBand I can instantly preview loops while playing my composition. Is there some sync setting I need to adjust?

Yes, I guess it does snap to the next bar. But it doesn't make much sense (and is pretty disappointing) considering it breaks the ability to preview dozens or hundreds of loops in realtime, an ability that lesser apps (based on the same Logic engine) like GarageBand and Soundtrack have had since their inception.
I'm going to log a feature request with Apple and hold off on purchasing upgrades to Logic Express (including Logic Studio which I was considering) until this is addressed, because I edit compositions that contain many loops and this issue is not present in less expensive apps like GB.

Midi Apple Loops Problem

Im having some issues with the midi apple loops loosing some effects that are heard when previewed in the media section, then once dragged into the arrange it'll loose for example a prevalent reverb and other notable sonic qualities...even when the plug-ins that are usually bypassed once dragged into arrange window are activated its still lacking from the preview loop heard.

This is normal behavior. If you want the midi loop to sound exactly like auditioned in the preview you will have to create an audio track and move the midi region onto the audio track, and then it will sound exactly the same.

Apple Loop Playback problem ok only at 44.1k

Aloha, Just discovered after having all my loops reindex themselves all by itself and throw out all of my imported ones, I have found that the loops "skip" {don't play all of file} unless my Session is at 44.1. Of course I have been running at 96k. Won't play right at 48 either and is not a Logic 32 or 64 bit issue. Used to play back ok but since last OSX update this starting happening to me and others. Loops play fine dragged on to track. Garageband is on;y 44.1 so no problem. Anyone else Have the same issue? I think it is an OSX bug that will drive us LOgic folks crazy.. Loop browser is not operating at any other level than 44.1.

Yes, this is a known bug with previewing loops in the Loops browser (when your project is not set to 44.1). The best you can do is drag them into Arrange for the purpose of previewing them. As you mentioned, they play fine once they're in the Arrange window.
Either that, or just stick with 44.1. It's too bad, but that's the way it is right now.

Audio preview no longer works correctly since AE-CC update

Hi everyone.
Since updating AE CC a couple of days ago (now on 12.1.0.168) on OSX 10.8.5, 2.7GHz i7 16GB RAM, the audio and RAM preview no longer functions correctly.
The steps I follow are:
Open AE
Open project
Press . to preview audio from where I am on the timeline, OR RAM preview workspace
What happens is my cursor turns into the wheel of doom for a about 20 seconds, then the playback begins but the audio is sped up which is wrong. Video is correct speed.
If I stop the audio or RAM preview, then preview again, everything is fine and plays instantly. If a RAM preview loops, then the audio reverts to normal speed.
I can open up any and all of my different project files and audio previews perfectly and instantly as it should. It's just the first time I press the . key on a freshly opened instance of AE that I get this problem.
I've tried restarting my mac to no avail, and also changing the pref settings away from what the settings have always been and that doesn't work either. I've even trashed my prefs and that also doesn't work.
I work exclusively at 25fps. Frame rate for RAM preview is set to auto (25) and changing this from auto to 25 doesn't work.
Memory settings are default since trashing my prefs, 16GB installed, 4GB for other apps, no checked boxes are ticked.
Any ideas on what has happened please?

Changing audio output of media bin preview

I am trying to preview loops and listen to them in my headphones (Output 13-14 of my MOTU 828) and for some reason, the audio always plays out of my speakers (Outputs 1-2). Is there a way to change the audio assignment? I know I'm missing something very easy here....

Look for the prelisten channel (256 or 128) in the environment or in the Mixer with view set to "All" and assign outputs 13-14 to it.

After Effects RAM Preview not showing first 50 frames or so - Mac OS

So I'm on a 2012 iMac, and when i RAM preview, it plays audio but video does not show until about 50 or 60 frames in, its like a glitch or lag thats started recently, so it makes ram previewing from a certain time a real pain as i then miss the exact part i want and it c matches up with video a second or two later, i can't find any solutions, please help!!

If you let the RAM preview loop at the end of its playback and play through again, it should be smooth and issue-free.

Help! No output!

Hi there,
Im using an MAudio Firewire interface and I've got it set to use the aggregate device so I can use my MacBook soundcard as an input and an output.
I can hear any tracks I create fine but 'system' sounds like previewing loops, metronome, and count ins are not coming through, I guess this is down to the way the aggregate device works.
My Inputs are set to channel 2, and outputs 5-6.
Is there any way to fix this, or how do I set this up to work correctly?

Clicks and loops come through their own channel strips, and they're probably set to 1-2. Go into the Mixer, and click the 'All' tab top right. There should be a 'Prelisten' channel strip there for your loops and Sample Editor sounds, and a 'Click' channel strip, which is set to Instrument 256. Change them both to output 5-6 (or whatever output) and you should be all set.

After Effects CS6 keeps crashing on playback

AE keeps crashing while I playback or render a composition. It actually saves before it crashes most of the time but it is happening a little to frequently.

I am running version 11.0.1.12. I actually saw that there was an update for 11.0.2 but it doesn't show when I go the Help > Updated route and when I download it directly it doesn't install because of an unknown error.
The project is a motion graphics piece containing a lot of shape layers, nulls, and some imports of tiff sequences from Cinema 4D. It tends to crash when I'm trying to playback using the space bar to check timing of the piece or when I let it play on a ram preview loop.

All I want is a plain photo and title. How?

In iDVD 5 I could eliminate the theme and just use a background tiff plus the IDVD type, postioned freely, sized and colored as I wanted it. Since the new interface, all my old easy options are gone. I need to get rid of that dopey preview loop window and I will be on my way,

Change your theme to an old one with no auto-loop movie. Or go to map view, select the auto-loop box at the top and then hit delete....it should get rid of your auto loop movie.
Then just drag a photo onto the background of the theme.....add buttons manually by dragging in your movies or creating new slideshows...
Read this too - it's for iDVD5, but most of it still applies, though the menu pallets have changed a bit.
