Previewing pdf files in Windows 8

I have a new Samsung Ulimate laptop with Windows 8- Nice machine but not fit for purpose as I cannot preview pdf files in Windows Explorer- every file just has the pdf icon with no preview and only the filename to differentiate them. Is this a known problem. Is there a reliable fix?

Not for 64 bit systems, it doesn't seem it was ever expected to work.

  • Programming help - how to get the read-only state of PDF file is windows explorer preview is ON?

Programming help - how to get the read-only state of PDF file is windows explorer preview is ON?
I'm developing an application where a file is need to be saved as pdf. But, if there is already a pdf file with same name in the specified directory, I wish to overwrite it. And in the overwrite case, read-only files should not be overwritten. If the duplicate(old) file is opened in windows (Win7) explorer preview, it is write protected. So, it should not be overwritten. I tried to get the '
FILE_ATTRIBUTE_READONLY' using MS API 'GetFileAttributes', but it didn't succeed. How Adobe marks the file as read-only for preview? Do I need to check some other attribute of the file?
    Thanks!

Divya - I have done it in the past following these documents. Please read it and try it it will work.
Please read it in the following order since both are a continuation documents for the same purpose (it also contains how to change colors of row dynamically but I didnt do that part I just did the read_only part as your requirement)

  • Preview pdf files in the desktop with Adobe Reader Touch .. is it possible?

preview pdf files in the desktop with Adobe Reader Touch
    .. is it possible?

Windows Store apps (including Adobe Reader Touch) do not offer the preview capability in the desktop environment.  That's just how Microsoft has set up.  So you need traditional desktop apps.
Because your operating system is Windows 8 (not Windows RT), you can find a lot of desktop apps that are compatible with Windows 7 and 8.  (For Windows RT, only built-in Microsoft Office products are available for desktop apps.  But that's not the case here.)
You can download Adobe Reader XI (which is also a free PDF viewer) from the following Adobe Reader download page
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
and install it on your Windows 8 desktop.  (Note for Windows RT users: Adobe Reader XI is not compatible with Windows RT.)
In case you have any questions about Adobe Reader XI (desktop app), you can visit the Adobe Reader forum.

  • How can I print a pdf file in Windows 8?

I'm new to Windows 8. How can I print a pdf file in Windows 8?

Well, you can install Adobe Reader XI - not the version for Windows 8 tablets, but the one for regular PCs. This is just the same in Windows 8 as other systems, and can print. The tablet reader, which also runs on PCs, can't print.

  • Can't open PDF files from Windows Explorer on Windows 8.1

    Hello,
after I've upgraded to Windows 8.1, I can't open PDF files from Windows Explorer (directly double clicking the file). The AcroRd32.exe runs in the background (2x !) as I see the processes in task manager, but there is no user interface visible. I have Acrobat
Reader 11.0.06, the desktop version (not Metro). I tried uninstalling the Acrobat reader and installing it again but this didn't help. The only way to open PDF files is to close the AcroRd32.exe from the task manager, open empty Acrobat Reader from the desktop
and then drag&drop the PDF file over that window. This is quite inconvenient. Is there a way to fix this issue so I can open PDF files directly from windows explorer?
    Many thanks!

I had to install adobe reader, but   PDF's used to display just fine with IE, any idea what happened ?
    Windows 8.1 pro.
    thx

  • Preview PDF file in SAP

    Dear All,
I know how to creat PDF file in smartform but I want to preview PDF file in SAP instead of downloading on local drive so How can i do this?
    Regards,

Not quite sure what you mean by preview (the actual PDF or the smartform you created?), but here is a FM for displaying a PDF from where you can download file to local drive.

  • How to upload pdf file from windows cell phone?

How to upload pdf file from windows cell phone?

You can do this in steps.. First use the built in method for uploading a file into the flows files object, Next you would copy the file out to an Oracle built directory on your UNIX box using utl_file.put_raw..
Here is a link to show you how to upload files in an APEX application [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31036_01/doc/appdev.22/b28839/up_dn_files.htm]
And here is a link to show you how to use utl_file.put_raw.. [http://psoug.org/reference/utl_file.html], item is towards the bottom of the screen..

  • Cannot preview PDF files in MS Word

After downloading Adobe XI I cannot preview PDF files from MS Word file list

Word cannot and will not open or preview PDFs because a PDF IS NOT a word document or text document.
If you try File>Open and choose a PDF you will see a page full of Unicode which makes up the PDF. That I guarantee will be completely useless to you.
PDFs open in Reader and Acrobat (or Foxit - but that's not an Adobe product)

  • Very slow opening PDF files from Windows Explorer

When I open a file from within Acrobat X Standard - whether through File>Open or the recent files list - the file opens very quickly.  When I open a PDF file from Windows Explorer, it takes 10 seconds or longer for the file to open.  Is this an Acrobat issue or a Windows/system problem?  (I don't experience the same delay when opening Word and Excel files from Windows Explorer.)

I had to install adobe reader, but   PDF's used to display just fine with IE, any idea what happened ?

  • Can't print .pdf files on windows network printer

    Hi,
I cannot print .pdf files on Canon IRC printer with UFR II 2.23 or 2.24 drivers connected through a windows network by LDP protocol, either with Apple Preview or Acrobat Reader - looks like the software doesn't find the printer (I have the rainbow whell and the software does not answer). It can last for hours, there is no other solution than forcing the soft to quit and finding another way to print. I have updated Canon drivers from 2.23 to 2.24 (all supposed to work with Lion) and that does not fix the problem.
This problem does not happen with Ms Word or Safari (or, more generally, other types of files) and it worked fine with Snow Leo even with pdf!! I also have windows XP with Parallels and guess what? I can print through Parallels with Acrobat Reader (for windows XP) on the same printer on which I cannot print with my Mac with Lion and Preview or Acrobat Reader for Mac!
    Please help !!
    Alexis

    Correction
It works with Acrobat but the printer does not like queues of documents...
The site privided me with the topics I fas looking for about this : it's a Canon drivers and Lion permissions problem.

  • Preview pdf files in Safari before potentially save them

In fact I have 2 questions:
when I do a web search if I click on a link to a pdf file, 2 things can randomly happen :
1 The pdf opens in a safari window and I can directly read it (that's what I want)
2  The pdf file is directly downloaded to my hard drive (and I may have to trash it if it turns out not to be as interesting as I thought)
My first question is: is there a way to always have the option 1 and never the second one?
Second question : Once (if) the pdf opens in a safari window, is there a way to DIRECTLY save it where I want? So far, the only way to do it I could find is from the safari pdf window, save the file to the "downloaded items" folder and then move it to the folder of interest. I can also from the safari pdf window open the file in preview and save the preview pdf document where I want.
In any case my 2 solutions appear complicated to me: is there a way to do that in a single step?

OK your command S option is working. I had tried Ctlr click instead (like I used to do in previous OS versions, and this was not bringing any "save option in the pop-up menu).
For the first question, here is an example of a web adress linking to a pdf file that directly downloads on my hard drive.
