Previews not automatically saving in EPS files

Hi
Just got Illustrator CS5 yesterday and immediately noticed that when saving a new EPS file it doesn't automatically include a preview, you have to choose it. In all past versions i have used this defaulted to 8-bit tiff with transparency.
This would be fine if you did it once and it remembered this for next time but it doesn't. So every time I save an EPS file i have to make this choice. I know it isn't much but if I forget to do it I have to go back and resave the file which is annoying.
Is there a way of making this choice permanent?
thanks
David

Hi, thanks for replying.
You aren't the first person to say this, AI files use the whole artboard as the image size so its like replacing one issue with another.
Its a completely random problem, it happens when creating a whole new EPS file and when saving out a new version of an existing EPS that already has the 8 bit tiff preview attached. Whats worse is, it doesn't always happen, I can't say that the next time I save a file so I can't replicate the problem myself.
its definitely NOT a problem with my system either, the same thing happens with my 2 colleagues macs in here.
As much as I'd like to I don't want to switch to indesign, I've tried a few times and it just doesn't sit right with me, it lets you get away with things that in 15 years I would never do because it would cause issues at the print stage, it makes me uncomfortable when I get files in from other agencies and they're just a mess with all random formats just forced into a document, its lazy.
Anyway, back to topic Adobe's TS reply is frankly laughable and unacceptable, I was hoping I'd get some support form them considering how much we pay for the software in the first place.
thanks again
David

Running Adobe Acrobat Professional 10.1.0. I cannot upgrade to newer version because several applications were already tested on this version.
When trying to complete an electronic signature, my users receive the error message ""The document could not be saved. We turned off antivirus in the Sharefolder where the forms are stored and nothing.  We turned off the antivirus on the client and nothing.  We stored the files in another server and nothing.  One workaround is saving the file in the desktop, signing it, and then back to the Sharefolder.  Another is saving the file with a different file name.
I've searched and the only similar thing was caused by the Windows Preview Pane.  See Information Transmogrification: Adobe Acrobat saving a file does not work, displays “File may be read-only”.  No luck with this one too.
Is definitively an intermittent problem.  The users that experience the problem experience it intermittently.
This started to happen when we move our computers to Windows 7.
    Any ideas?

  • The document could not be saved. A file I/O error has occurred

    Hello,
I have scanned PDF files varying in size from < 1,000 pages to > 5,000 pages. I seem to experience this issue on and off on various files regardless of the size. The issue is when I OCR the pdf using Adobe Acrobat X Pro, when it's completed the OCR process and I go to save it errors out with: "The document could not be saved. A file I/O error has occurred"
    I have tried:
    1. Saving to local hard drive
    2. Saving to network drive
    3. Renaming file and repeating steps 1&2
    4. File/Save as and reducing (but it won't allow me to do so without saving first, lol)
    Any thoughts? Thanks so much.

  • Adobe Reader does not automatically associate with PDF files in Xp Sp3

I have reinstalled Reader (twice) and it does not automatically associate with PDF files.
How do I fix this problem?
    Cheers, JH

The thing is, when I right click a pdf file, and then go to properties, change default program to open with, select browse, I select it in the correct folder, when I click open, it doesnt open and the programs stay blank, so I cant select anything. There is nothing to select. And I have re-installed. But at the end of the install there are no options what file types to associate with. Any way to do it inside Reader?
I have reader 9.2.0. and Win7 up to date. When I'm opening and closing allot of files the whole time, I don't want to do inside reader. Help please?

  • The document could not be saved. This file is already open.

This problem recently developed.with several versions of Acrobat Reader 9.x installed. The full version of Acrobat is not installed.
Users used to be able to open an editable .pdf file in IE, edit it and save it. Some users can no longer do this. The are getting
the error message "The document could not be savedl. This file is already open. Users who are able to save from within a browser, are actually
using Acrobat Reader, which opens when opening the .pdf file from within the browser. Everyone can open Acrobat Reader V 9.x, edit an editable .pdf file and save it. It is just when the .pdf file is opened from a browser application, and the reader is not also launched. Help! This just started happening.

  • Preview not functioning correctly with PDF files

For some time I've put up with minor issues with Preview when viewing and editing PDF files.
However, over the last little while it has gotten progressively worse. More and more PDF documents that I download, buy, print, or get from others are failing to display properly. Fonts will be wrong, images will be missing, or it is impossible to search for text or copy and paste from the files.
The files in question are not encrypted, and they work fine in Adobe Reader on Mac and Windows, Adobe Acrobat, and even Foxit Reader in Windows.
Does anyone have any idea what causes this and how it might be fixed, or is this just bugs in Preview?
The problem has been getting worse, though I have insufficient information to know why.
Another problem with Preview is that when I edit PDF files to annotate them, it is corrupting them somehow. What happens is I will do something like highlight text and insert a few notes using Preview, and then I'll save the PDF.
From that point forward, searching no longer works on the file, and if I copy and paste anything from the file it is all garbage text.
Again, I can do this without issue using Adobe Reader and Foxit Reader.
I would prefer to keep using Preview so I thought I'd ask to see if anyone else is seeing these issues and has any ideas to fix them, or if the consensus is that there is currently no solution.

The thing is, when I right click a pdf file, and then go to properties, change default program to open with, select browse, I select it in the correct folder, when I click open, it doesnt open and the programs stay blank, so I cant select anything. • Will saving an eps file as a pdf change color output?  Digital printing.

Hello, I recently sent in a reprint order of a client's package label file, and the color output is quite different.   The first times I ordered these labels, I sent in an eps file.  At the printer's request, I submitted the file as a pdf this time.  I can't see any differences bewteen the eps and pdf  files.   They're both RGB, the color values are sttill the same in the file.   Should the file type change result in such a different output?  Thanks for any advice...

Switching from a RGB color mode to CMYK gives the same colors on Screen? Since the CMYK is a subset of the colors available in RGB this is not usually the case.

  • Preview can no longer open eps files

I'm having difficulty getting Preview to convert eps to pdf, even for eps files that it handled fine 4 months ago. I get a "File error. Couldn't open the file." I assume this must be due to a recent update but I haven't been able to find any mention of this problem online. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Yes, a [third party font management application|http://www.extensis.com/en/products/suitcasefusion2/index.jsp].
I don't have any experience with using eps so I can't come up with detailed suggestions. Maybe somebody else has more experience with how it all works. I can only make general troubleshooting suggestions. You can try starting in Safe Mode and see if that lets you do what you want (and thereby implicating some third party add-on). You can then try starting back in normal mode and see if that has restored things or the problem recurs.
[Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393]
[What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X)|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392]
[Safe Boot takes longer than normal startup|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107394]
Safe boot mode runs a directory check command similar to that used by Disk Utility's repair. In Tiger it ignores some stored information (cache) that is normally read that speeds up the boot process, and it moves some other caches to the trash. It also uses only System fonts and disables all Startup Items, third party items, and any Login Items.

  • Help! my project is not automatically saving to my external drive!

In the past, Final Cut Pro automatically saved my projects on my external disk. A test project saved as well. Now I'm working on a bigger project and for hours editing and so forth... When I went back to work on it, i could not find it anywhere on the disk! Any suggestions?

  • Photoshop files locking up Finder (preview not loading) and empty photoshop files... 18mb!

    Hi all,
We've been having some problems with all of our Photoshop files recently. It seems to be a problem that's been duplicated throughout during the design progression.
When using finder to navigate through our design folders, it often locks up for 5 - 10 seconds per file while finder tries to load the preview thumbnails (and fails, showing just the psd icon). I checked compatibility was checked on save as. I also checked the colour profile was being embedded. On some files it wasn't so I checked this, but still having the same slowdown.
As a test I then deleted all the layers in the doc, saved it again - and even though the file only had one blank layer - it was 18mb in size!
I then made a new document of the same resolution, saved it - and boom. 120kb or so and preview works fine.
I then opened one of the problem PSD's with all the layers - dragged them over to a new document of the same size, saved it - and the file and preview in finder works fine.
Obviously there's something of around 18mb in weight in all of our old files that is causing a real issue with finder and previews. Other than layers (as there are none) - what could it be? We're using a mix of cs6 / cc and cc 2014.
Any help on this would be appreciated!

OK, that means that the Finder is having problems with that folder. That could be due to corrupt disk data structures, or you could be hitting some of the known (and not yet fixed) bugs in MacOS's Finder related to thumbnails and metadata parsing.
As for file size - other metadata (especially image history, and sometimes color profiles) can really add to the file size.

  • Lightroom 1:1 Previews not automatic...

I am just figuring out that Lightroom doesn't automatically generate 1:1 previews for all of your images when you first import them, nor at any point in the future, unless you specifically choose the Library>Preview>Render 1:1 Previews menu selection (I guess I could have figured out that it doesn't generate them upon import by the 'Render Standard-Sized Previews' option in the import window, but that would have been too easy:)...Is this correct?
Out of curiosity, if it is indeed correct, and I wanted to take the time to have Lightroom go over all of my images and regenerate the 1:1 previews for them, but I'd previously setup Lightroom so that it automatically generates standard-size previews for every image I ever imported (which totals 45,000 images, with standard previews options set to 2048px/high-quality), does choosing the 'Discard 1:1 Previews' menu option delete the standard-sized previews that I had previously generated for all of my images? If so, great...but if not, is there any way to delete all these previews that I'd previously generated? There must be a way...anyone know what it is, and how to do it? (and please God... don't tell me I have to create a brand new library from scratch and re-import everything all over again :(

I am using a 30in display, along side a 22in (as parts of a dual monitor setup)...
I was wrong actually...my database only contains a mere 35,000 images, for which I have imported virtually every image using the standard size previews set to 2048;high-quality...I have just completed rendering the 1:1 previews for about 8,000 of them so far, and my library is a whopping 70GB at this point!!
Does anyone have any idea how large a "Lightroom Previews.Irdata" file can be? Should I just make sure to back it up constantly, and then get ready for lightroom to explode once it reaches a certain point?
OUT OF CURIOSITY, what is the most effective way, if any, of somehow splitting up this database into several smaller more manageable databases? All of my files are in the DNG format...if I choose to export the XMP data to the files, then close down Lightroom, copy a large folder full of images (about 1/4 of the total number of images) off to my secondary computer and import them from there into a new Lightroom Database file on that machine, while making sure to remove those images from the original 70GB database...would an approach like this make any sense? Would this effective accomplish the task of splitting up the database into pieces, and all the while maintain all of the adjustments and settings I applied to the images in the initial 70GB database? Is there a more effective way of going about this?
Any suggestions or comments would be sincerely appreciated...Thanks!

  • How to automate saving single swf files?

Right off the bat.... I'm a newbie...it will be obvious I'm sure. This is what I'm doing....
    01. I take a PowerPoint slide show and convert it to an  .emf (MetaData) PowerPoint show in power point.
( an aside...I have used enhance MetaData and regular MetaData and haven't noticed any difference. No biggie I guess)
    02. I then load the Flash CS4 stage with the .emf PowerPoint slide show.
    03. Do some clean-up.
04 I then must save individual .swf files of the timeline. ( I notice there doesn't seem to be a key board stroke for Export Image... that seems weird)
    05. I do all the mouse clicks and save the .swf's in a folder. For 80 or more slide per show this is very tedious I must say. Clicking, numbering, saving, advanceing, clicking, numbering saving...etc. I typically end up with a folder with ...Slide_01, Slide_02, Slide_03 etc. which is what I want.
What is the best way to automate this process? I'm not a programmer, but is a Macro program what I need. Or is there a way in Flash to simplify this process     ..of course I'm not a programmer.
    Thanks!
    mp

    1. You can customize the keyboard shortcuts in Flash.
         - Go to Edit/Keyboard Shortcuts
         - When the dialog opens, you must duplicate the set by clicking the left-most button next to the Current Set drop-down (the tool-tip displays "Duplicate Set" when you hold the mouse over it for a second)
         - Navigate the tree into File/Export
         - Select the Export Image node
         - Click the "+" button in the Shortcuts area
         - Hit the key combination you want to use for this
         - Click the "Change" button
         - Resolve any conflicts the shortcut you set creates
         - Click OK
    2. Is there a reason you are exporting each slide as a SWF?  Why not an image format, like JPG, PNG, or GIF?

  • Cannot view notes made on sticky notes after saving the pdf file. Any idea on how to fix this?

After listening to a 3 hour recording of a lecture, i finally finished typing my notes. I saved the file the same way as usual and now when i click on the sticky note nothing happens. I click on the comments sections and it says no comments have been made. Anyone know how to get all the info back?

after reinstalling firefox 4, still unable to successfully download plugin program updates from the software publisher's websites.

  • IPhoto (and preview) not recognising Canon 350D raw files

    Hi,
I'm using a Canon 350D (UK version of Digital Rebel XT) and OS X (specifically preview and iPhoto) won't recognise the .cr2 raw images it produces.
The images have finder thumbnails but if I try to open them I get:
The document "xxx.cr2" could not be opened.
Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize.
In iPhoto I get an 'Unreadable files' alert telling me it can't read them and then lists the files.
I know that it should work fine and am stuck in terms of what I'm doing wrong.
This problem has existed since I was on 10.4.7 when I bought the computer and camera - I'm now on 10.4.9. I did download the Aperture trial to see if that helped and had the same problems. Reinstalling OS X made no difference.
    Any ideas?
