Previous Import folder problem

Hi,
I have a problem with the Previous Import folder in the Catalog, this folder do not show the last imported Photo.
The Photos are imported and only listed in my folder list.
I am using Windows Professional SP3 and LR2; I did not have the problem in LR 1.41
Please give some advice to solve this problem tank you.
Jørgen Banke Thomsen

Not a solution I'm afraid, but I also have this problem with LR2 on WinXP.
I have just built a new catalogue of 2000+ images, importing 36 or so at a time from different folders.
Not once did the Previous Import change from 0, so I was unable to add keywords or put into collections without going back to the full catalogue every time.
Very frustrating!

  • Import folder problems

Ok - let's see if I can explain this - I keep all my images on a separate internal hard disk and they are all organized by date. My structure might be 2007-january-january15. I want to continue this process - so I download my images directly from my flash card to the appropriate folder on my storage disk. I then want to import them into lightroom keeping the photos in their location. I can not figure out how to structure the Lightroom library folder structure so that when I import images from the storage place the lightroom folder structure matches the disk folder structure. I have tried creating a folder in Lightroom and "moving" the images to that folder, but then the folder disappears from my hard drive. (Where does it go?) How to I import images from my hard drive into a similarly named and structured folder in Lightroom?
    I hope this is clear.

First. PC or Mac? I have had no touble with this sort of folder structure and import on my Mac from Beta 1.
Are all you images in one major folder structure? Maybe to start, for those image already in Export XMP for all of them. Then remove all of them from the dB, not the HD. Rearange them on the HD as you want (if some are out of place) and then Import them by designating the Top Parent folder. This is easiest if the top is empty, except for the year folders, one. No images.
Import by reference in place and LR will keep your existing file structure intact. When later adding more files, designate one higher folder containing new images than the bottom one. With 'Ignore Duplicate Images 'Checked' LR will import only the new ones, again adding to and maintaining your folder structure.

  • Previous Import

I like Previous Import, but the problem is if you have multiple cards from the same shoot, each card overwrites the previous. Not good!
Ideally, there would be a checkbox in 'import' that would say 'add to previous import' and multiple cards from the same shoot would be combined in that category.
    Denton

I agree, it would be great if the previous import folder automatically kept sub-collections for each import session.
This seems like a no-brainer. Imagine if your browser only kept history of your last site, but "hey you can always bookmark things that are interesting." I would file this under courtesy towards the end user. Anyone using this program has better things to do than the bookkeeping that can be done by a computer.

  • Develop settings lost after re-importing folder of DNG files

I've been using LR for several months, and - after getting accustomed to its peculiararities - love the program.
This evening I re-imported a folder of DNG files that I had previously removed from LR - using the "add" import option. When going to the Develop module, I noticed that my original develop settings were no longer applied.
Aren't these settings incorporated into the DNG files? How could they get lost? Are they over-written when re-importing the files?
I always backup my catalog before closing. Does the catalog backup contain the original develop settings for these DNG files?
I know I must have done something wrong! Please advise & explain. Thanks.

Thanks. I do have autowrite to XMP checked. - I learned that lesson a few months ago!
I will see if I can use an older backup to recover the settings. I have never done that before, but I know where my catalog backups are located. If you can give some advice on that, I would appreciate it. I don't want to lose other DNG edits in the process.
Correct me if I'm wrong - but it appears that if I ever do want to remove a previously imported folder from LR for whatever reason - I should just edit the RAW files without converting to DNG. I know DNGs are more compact, but at least the sidecar files associated with the RAW files will always be there! This is more important to me than conserving disk space!
just try it on one or tow files to test. Also look at "Read Metadata from file" in the current catalog first with ine file to see if that helps. Did you have a Prest applied when importing like Zeroed?...... None is the best for importing files with dev settings already applied.
I use DNG exclusively and haven't experienced your issue so review your import settings as mentioned.

  • Deleted previous system folder, now I'm a-havin' problems.

    Hi all!
I found a "Previous Systems" folder from a months-old archive and install hanging around my hard drive taking up space; figuring it was devoid of anything I needed, I trashed it. The next day, when I tried to open up Mac Mail, to my surprise it gave me the initial setup screen you get when you open the program for the first time, asking me for my account info!
So, I re-set up my accounts and it at least got my mailboxes from my Library folder correct, but without any of the messages. So, I imported my mailboxes as they stood on my computer in User>library>mail. This seemed to import everything correctly, and I thought the problem was solved.
However, when I search for the odd message, many say this:
"The message from Alec Quig <[email protected]> concerning “Submission” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
These messages are most definitely not on my email servers. Anyone know how can I get them back?
    Thank you!
    Alec

Sounds like your Mail index is corrupted. To create a new one, do this:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Mail and remove the Envelope Index file to your Desktop.
    3. Start Mail and let it import your messages. When that's done, you should be able to go back to those old messages and see the entire message again.
    4. If that works, you can delete the old Envelope Index file on your Desktop.

  • Problem importing photos after the new Photos update:  When I drag photos from my desktop, why don't they don't replace the previously imported photos in "Last Import".

When I drag photos from my desktop to the new Photos icon, they don't replace the previously imported photos in "Last Import".

After several attempts, I now find that this is working for me.  I wasn't able to open the IMPORT folder in Photos until I clicked on "Close" from File Menu. Once I was able to open the IMPORT folder and select the photos for import, the new photos appeared in "Last Import."

  • Export and import, same problem in 08 as in 07!

I am so fed up and frustrated with this problems in iPhoto, I had exactly the same thing in iPhoto´07, and on an other installation:
When I import pictures from a folder on my HD, it imports the pictures, but it NEVER finishes the import-process! It goes on and on forever. So I have to terminate iPhoto and restart. The pictures are then imported, but the "Last import" folder is not updated. And I don´t know what harm this does to the library. Anyone else with this problem?
I also cannot export. It exports up to ca 370 pictures, and then I get this message "cannot create folder .....".
I have no iPhoto plugins. A new fresh plain installation, plenty diskspace and 2 GB ram
I removed iPhoto and then reinstalled - didn´t help
    I did repair disk/permissions, didn´t help
I rebuilded the database, didn´t help.
My guess is this is a bug in iPhoto, when will Apple fix this!

    Sitara:
Boot into Safe Mode and try to import. If it works then there's something amiss with your primary account. It may be another preference that iPhoto interacts with. To see if that's the case do the following:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Preferences folder (in its entirety) to the Desktop and make a second copy of it so you have Copy A and B. Now try the the process again and determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up.
Open Copy B on the Desktop and select all of the items inside. Drag them into the open new library folder. When the Copy window comes up check the Apply to All check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here. That will keep the new files created and bring back all of the others.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the intact Copy A folder back to the Library folder .
If the import problem persists in the Safe Mode, I suggest you reinstall the 10.4.10 COMBO updater followed by a repair of disk permissions.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How can I restore folders and files from Previous Systems folder

I have been unable to migrate files (or even find the option to migrate files) located in my Previous Systems folder. I've been able to change the Privilege of these files to Read & Write (though my Permissions still indicate "You can only read.") and drag them from my previous Users folder to my current desktop, which creates a situation where I have them but am still unable to alter them (or delete them).
    thanks, all.

Here's my exact issue: I've spent many hours converting vinyl records to mp3s, which were then stored in the iTunes folder of my previous system. Upon performing the Archive and Install, all of these files were located in my Previous Systems>Users>"X">Music folder, which initially could not be opened, prompting the notice, "The folder Music could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges." So, I clicked "Get Info" and changed the Privilege from Read Only to Read & Write. From there I could open the folder, and as you pointed out, move these files wherever I chose. The problem is that I can't use them in any practical sense; I can't import them to my iTunes library and I can't delete them, being notified, "The operation can't be completed because backup items can't be modified." Which, would lead me to believe that I have yet to restore them properly.

  • "Don't import duplicates" and question about the Last Import folder

*THE CLIP IMPORTING (TO IMOVIE) PROCESS*
Ever since the last time I uploaded clips and made movies with them, I have shot new footage. I never erased the clips that were in the Sanyo VPC-HD2000A.
This morning I uploaded the clips to my iMovie '11, including image stabilization. (Bypassed iPhoto '11 completely, on purpose.)
What caused me concern while the clips were uploading is that there were no prompts about +"only new clips, no duplicates"+ to be imported. There was one set of options saying "Importing checked, or Import checked," but the problem was that I saw nowhere that any of the clips in the box (I will call it the Sanyo Box) could be checked. Selected, yes, but checked, no. I tried to select all of the newly shot footage, but that was impossible. It was only possible to select one clip at a time.
I did not interrupt the file transfer because I did so once last month and it caused me problems.
I ended up with 36 files uploaded and imported.
*THE EVENT LIBRARY LAST IMPORT FOLDER*
_In the iMovie '11 Events Library, the Last Import folder contains clips that were uploaded last month to iMovie. If I am to understand the label, "Last Import" does not mean, "And also stuff from a previous import."_
I realize that having duplicates of clips can be solved by deleting clips, but I really want to know what is going on and also what ought to be going on. Shouldn't the Last Import folder contain only those clips that are in the most recent upload?
And why was there no prompt for all duplicates to be disregarded and not imported?
Did I possibly bollix up the preferences in my Sanyo VPC-HD2000A and did I accidentally tell it not to ask whether or not I want to import duplicates?
I can see that someone could say, "Make sure you delete all old clips before you shoot new footage," but that is an "of course." I need to know what happens when you keep clips in the camera and want to import only the new clips.
    -L

    No.
In LR3 it would ALWAYS pick up the duplicates if I inserted a card I'd just imported.
With no change to my workflow I'm now having instances of the same files being imported multiple times.

  • After 10.5.3 update I have a "Previous Systems" folder (1976-04-01_0145)

After my terrible experience with the 10.5.3 update on Friday (and getting locked out of system, see thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1542395&tstart=0) I have my machine up and running again.
However, I've now discovered that I now have a 'Previous Systems' folder - which is essentially an ENTIRE system, with apps, utilities, etc. - on my machine and it is dated 1976-04-01_0145.
Because of this duplication I am barely able to run my machine as the startup drive is out of memory, all of my apps thing I've never used them before today, etc. . However, I am terrified of deleting one or the other of these two system folders.
I can't even properly backup as the scan takes FOREVER.
    Help! What should I do?
    Thanks,
    Jennifer

Yes, You should have a previous system folder after an archive and install.
Can you backup everything to a second HD? Or, were you running Time Machine (a good idea). If you can, then you can safely delete many things from the previous system folder. Or, at least enough to begin testing to see if your apps work.
I routinely do and A&I when I upgrade. Then I test all my apps (or at least the important ones and a sample of the lesser ones). I move the previous system folder to a spare disk and keep it around for a few weeks incase I need to copy something over (like fonts).
BTW, I suspect your start up disk is out of space, not memory. Again backing stuff up, particularly on a laptop is a very sound idea and also allows you to manage your stuff better -- older stuff goes on the backup. Despite some problems, Time Machine works well for this as do a number of commercial products.

  • Another import Mail problem (Panther to Tiger)

OK, I have 15 email accounts in my Mail, that worked fine, albeit slowly, in Panther (10.3.9).
I just imported everything to a new macbook (10.4.8), and now some of the email accounts are not functioning properly. I get the misleading error message: The message from XXX <[email protected]> concerning “RE: YYY” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
I have not taken the new macbook's mail account online.
I have read through dozens of posts here over the past few days, and am disappointed Apple hasn't fixed the import problem from over a year ago.
Anyway, I got both the "old" Panther Mail working, and new Macbook Tiger Mail not working, so willing to "experiement" if anyone wants me to. I have seen various theories on what works and what doesn't. Some of my mailboxes are large, so I suspect that's part of the problem. In addition they were previously imported from Jaguar, and probably from original OSX 10.1, so probably contain some of the vestigial files. I suspect I need to do the fixes/cleanup in 10.3.9, then re-import them...
I also don't rebuild mailboxes because once I did it I lost all my mail (or appeared to), but I was able to recover from backup. I suspect the mbox file was probably still there, so mail was recoverable, but that experience was not one that instilled confidence in me. I'm willing do rebuild this time...
Some info on the 15 accounts I tried to transfer:
    1. dan@dc OK, 5271 messages, 152 MB
    2. info@pics OK, 54 messages, 315 kB
    3. trav IMAP, empty, (probably due to not going online after xfer)
    4. web@al OK 3 messages, 2.9 kB
    5. web@kais OK, 147 messages, 802 kB
    6. class * BAD * 238 messages, 854 kB (160 msg xferred)
    7. web@khs OK, 1248 messages, 27.8 MB
    8. dan@aa * BAD * 10419 messages, 607 MB (638 msg xferred,)
    9. cabin OK, 10245 messages, 39.6 MB
    10. news OK, 2712 messages, 4.2 MB
    11. web@aa OK, 97 messages, 1011 kB
    12. dan1 OK, 2945 messages, 11.7 MB
    13. info@dc * BAD * 2023 messages, 50.6 MB (22 msg xferred)
    14. dc@dc OK, 895 messages, 14.4 MB
    15. info@aa OK, 2484 messages, 39.7 MB
    The accounts I use most often are 1, 8, 13, 14, 15.
Frankly, I'm surprised account 6 went bad, due to small size, and last saved received email over a year old. No recent mail received.
All SENT Mailboxes appear to be fine.
I have several archive mailboxes, and they all seem fine, too.
I will do (in Tiger) the standard POP procedure posted multiple times by David Gimeno, unless someone thinks I should be doing the cleanup in Panther first...then re-import, or wants me to be a Guinea Pig and run some "tests"
Another minor thing: Mail in Panther shows how large the file is and the number of messages (below toolbar), while Tiger only shows number of messages (and unread). Any easy way to enable showing how large the mailbox is? I think it should be displayed, especially if Mail chokes on large files.
Also, is there a better, easier to use, less clunky Mail alternative that can handle multiple accounts? Entourage? Eudora? T-bird?
    Aloha,
    Dan

The real issue here is that the conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken and it may fail miserably even for mailboxes that Mail 1.x could handle without a hitch. Hence, trying to “fix” any problems you might have in Mail 1.x by upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4 is guaranteed to fail and can only make things worse.
At this point, whether you go back to Mac OS X 10.3 and tidy up your mailboxes there (if that’s still an option), or want to try to fix the problem in place using the procedure I’ll post below again for reference, is up to you. Do what you find easier or more convenient. Whatever you do, be sure you keep a backup of the original ~/Library/Mail folder, so that you can try something else if things don’t work as expected.
And yes, in their infinite wisdom, the powers that be at Apple also decided to remove the status bar from Mail 2.x, and there is currently no way to know the size of a locally stored mailbox in Mail 2.x other than by switching to the Finder and checking the size of the Messages folder within the corresponding *.mbox folder in ~/Library/Mail/.
Before proceeding any further, however, you should verify/repair the disk (not just permissions), as described in the following article, in case there is something amiss in the filesystem that also has a bearing on the problems you’ve experienced:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
For a POP account, the following procedure should allow you to fix the Inbox problem. A similar procedure should allow you to fix other mailboxes that might also be affected:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to fix the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn’t need to have an .mbox extension.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
    5. Move the files mbox and Incoming_Mail out of INBOX.mbox, into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. These files contain all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger, and maybe even some messages that had been deleted. mbox is the most important. Incoming_Mail may or may not be present.
    6. Move any strangely-named Messages-T0x... folders to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or an indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn’t work as expected. If you’ve been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
    7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox and Incoming_Mail (if it exists) files only. Now, proceed as follows:
    8. Open Mail.
    9. The account’s Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that’s not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
    10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that’s on the Desktop.
As a result of doing the above, some messages may be duplicated now. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move the messages anywhere you want and get rid of the imported mailboxes afterwards.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Take a look at the following article to learn what you might have done before upgrading to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problem to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON’T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Previous Import Count - Auto Import

    Hi,
I use Auto Import to import my RAW files. Each time LR imports my files the Previous Import count number increases. Is there a way to reset this count so it shows a true reflection of the photos from my previous import session?
Correct me if I'm wrong but if you manually import files the Previous Import count number resets itself automatically. I've Googled this problem & this question has been asked before - all users were utilising Auto Import.
Any suggestions or answers will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank

If I understand your post correctly, you're putting a bunch of raw files in a watched folder to import them. Then later, you put a bunch more in the same folder, and they get imported. You're complaining that they all end up in the Previous Import collection--that that collection doesn't get emptied when you put the second batch of images in the watched folder.
I'd say that this is working as designed. Normally, people use the watched folder to collect images that are being downloaded from a tethered camera, one at a time. That is, a series of batches that only contain one image in each. If I were doing that, I'd want all of those images to end up in Previous Import. I wouldn't want just the last image imported to be there. There's no way for LR to distinguish between the two cases.
You're using a feature in a way that goes beyond what it was designed for, and you can't expect it to do everything you want it to do.

  • ITunes does not want to import folder

    Hi there.
    Vista Prof with latest iTunes.
I lost my harddrive without any backups of the songs on my iPod. I have read a couple of replies to people with the same problem. One was to import the songs via the "Add folder to library" option. Before I chose this, I have managed to copy all the songs from my iPod (as an external drive) to my PC. I have ticked the option to also copy the songs to the iTunes library when importing folders.
    Problem:
Nothing happens when I choose "Add folder to library".
Am I doing something wrong or what else can I try?
    Thanx for your help.
    Deon

I am having this EXACT same problem.
I changed computers, copied all of my files onto my iPod, put them back onto the hard drive on the new computer and they simply WILL NOT import into iTunes. I've tried drag-and-drop, I've tried import folder and I've tried import file. Import file will work, but I'm literally having to add files one-by-one. It's an utterly maddening task, and it's one that has worked without fail for me in the past, so I'm tempted to blame Vista.
I too have my settings such that they will import/copy the files into the appropriate folders.
