Previous owners contacts & calendars on my devices

I just bought an ipad 1 from a friend and am running into an issue. All of his contacts and calendars have been added to my ipad and iphone. I am afraid to delete them through icloud.com in case the delete on his devices. That would be terrible. Not sure if my stuff is synching to his devices. Not sure why it would sync when I am signed into icloud with my own account. How do I safely remove his contacts and calendare events from my devices and keep mine from updating to his? Thanks.

In order to delete all his data you need to setup the iPad as a new device. Since you will be using your own Apple ID and password, that won't delete any of his data on his devices.

The Apple ID and Password that was Originally used to Activate the iDevice is required.
If you cannot get this information from the seller
Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
You need to return the Device for a refund, as you will not be able to re-activate it.

  • I bought used ipad the previous owner told me that he has already removed the device from his account...the problem is i still cannot activate the ipad..it still asking for Apple ID and password which the owner didn't want to give me.what should i do

Hello everyone!i got a problem about this used ipad2 that i had bought  from a friend of my friend.the problem is i cannot activate it i asked my friend to contact the previous owner..according to my friend the previous owner had already removed the device from his account..but still it keeps on asking me to enter the email and password..what should i do now?maybe the previous owner didn't want to give me his Email add ppassword for his own personal reason..please help me this ipad has been in here since April 2014..thank you

The person who sold you the device can remove the ID without giving it to you. Follow the steos in "What to do if you no longer have the device." In the artcle below. If you can't find the person or they won't do it you're stuck with a unusable device.

  • HT201441 what if the previous owner of the ipod had Find my ipod to link it to their apple i.d and i have no way to contact them

what if the previous owner of the ipod had Find my ipod to link it to their apple I.D and their is no way that I can contact them ?

Then your iPod is useless. The previous owner should've unlinked the device from their AppleID before passing/selling on the device to you, and you should've checked the device was properly wiped before buying it.

  • What do I do if I cannot contact previous owner?

I have an iPad which I purchased second hand late 2013.  I no longer have their contact details.
On my return from holiday I plugged my iPad into my MAC and it said it was going to carry out a iOS upgrade.  It started this and then about half way through said it had encountered a problem.  A message then came up stating that I would have to Restore my iPad.  I clicked on the Restore and it carried on.
Then my iPad restarted and asked for the sign in details that were given at its registration.
I don't have these and there is no where on the Apple site which tells you what can be done if you do not have a previous owners contact details etc.
Getting really, annoyed and upset now.
    HELP!!!!!

Thanks Niel.  I had a feeling that would be the case.  Luckily my husband had the brainwave of looking at my PayPal account as there is an email address for the guy.
I've just emailed him with the link of what is to be done.  Hopefully the address is still valid and he will be nice enough to help.
Failing that, I suppose, here comes eBay and one iPad for spares........
Really could do without all of this.  And it was iTunes fault in the first place by saying I needed to upgrade to the next iOS.   Grrrrrrr

  • How can I change game centre and iCloud account information from previous owner of my iPad?

How can I change game centre and iCloud account information from previous owner to me?

You can't do it on your own. The previous owner has to erase the device for you. You would need his Apple ID and password in order to delete his iCloud account. This is due to the Activation Lock in iOS 7 - assuming that your iPad is running iOS 7.
Contact the owner and ask home to erase it remotely using iCloud, or return the device and ask for your money back. If you can't contact the pervious owner, you will have a useless iPad on your hands.
Read this for more information. This is what you need the previous owner to do.

  • I bought a used iphone and the previous owner forgot to delete their icloud account, so I cant add mine. Is there anything I can do?

I cant seem to get in contact with the previous owner.

You are experiencing Activation Lock.  If the previous owner will not remove the device from their account there is nothing you can do unless the place you purchased it from will give you a refund.

What if I purchase a device that is still linked to the previous owner's account?
Contact the previous owner as soon as possible and ask them to erase the device and remove it from their account. For complete instructions, read how to remove a device from a previous owner's account.
How do I check for Activation Lock before purchasing a used device?
When purchasing an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from someone other than Apple or an authorized Apple reseller, it is up to you to ensure that the device has been erased and is no longer linked to the previous owner’s account.
Follow each of these steps to make sure that you can use the device you purchase:
Turn the device on and slide to unlock. If the passcode lock screen or the home screen appears, the device has not been erased. Ask the seller to completely erase the device by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been erased.
Begin the device setup process. After choosing a language, choosing a country, and connecting to a network, the device will begin activation. If you are asked for the previous owner’s Apple ID and password, the device is still linked to their account. Hand the device back to the seller and ask them to enter their password. If the previous owner is not present, they can remove the device from their account by signing in to
    icloud.com/find
. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been removed from the previous owner’s account.
You will know that a device is ready for you to use when you are asked to “Set up your iPhone", “Set up your iPad", or “Set up your iPod” during the device setup process.

  • I have purchased second hand 5c and previous owner has not removed it from their icloud list

i have purchased a second hand iphone 5c.The previous owner has not deleted this device from their icloud and I have lost his contact details. Is there anyway that i can find these details out from apple so that i can contact him and have him delete this device from his list so that I can activate and use it.

Sorry, this isn't a reply.  Just wondering.
What have you done since?  I have the same problem with iPad I bought second hand from an individual.  The seller won't give me refund or provide me previous owner's contact info.  Apple Support told me to contact local police to locate the original owner so I did.  Since police didn't have report for this iPad's serial number they won't handle this as theft.   I live in Utah and the seller I met with told me he is from Northern India so who knows which country this iPad came from.  I wish to let the original owner know i have his/ her missing iPad since Apple doesn't care about consumers once they sold their products.

  • How can I change the apple ID on my macbook? Previous owner's ID is the default.

I bought a used macbook and the apple ID is set to the previous owner's ID.  Now I can't update anything because it asks for his password.  Is there a way I can change the apple ID now that I own the computer? The previous owner has been helpful, but not interested in giving me his ID.  I don't know how I can do this without it.  Any suggestions?

    1. Yes.
    2. Log into the Mac App Store with your Apple ID and download them; iTunes is an OS component and not a Mac App Store one. For the iLife applications, doing this may require that the previous owner contact Apple and release them.

  • HT201441 if I cannot contact the previous owner ego has sold me the device how can I still activate it?

My uncle just recently bought me ask iPhone 4 and I an trying to activate it. It says the previous owners still had it on his appleid account. we are not able to contact him so hoe do I activate the phone with my apple I'd??

You haven't told us exactly what kind of messages you are getting when you try to start the device.  If you are asked to log into icloud with an ID and password, then if the previous owner had an icloud account defined and Find My iPhone turned on, then you won't be able to start it until you get the ID and password from the previous owner.  There's nothing more you can do other then to return it.

  • HT201441 how can erase a device if i dont have any way of contacting the previous owner? the phone was bought broken off craigslist. I had it fixed now I cant access it due to the phone being locked to there icloud

is there anyway i can remove my iphone from previous owners icloud/ itunes account. if i cant contact them? there has to be something that can be done . the phone is use less if i cant link it to my on account. Please help.

If this phone you bought was already running iOS 7 and had the new activation lock enabled, you can't do anything.
That's the whole point of the feature. If it could be bypassed it would be a pointless feature.
If you can't get the previous owner to unlock it, you've wasted your money.

    Hello codyfromseminole,
After reviewing your post, I believe your device is under Activaltion Lock. The following article will provide you with more information about the feature:
    iCloud: Activation Lock
With iOS 7 or later, Find My iPhone includes a feature called Activation Lock, which is turned on automatically when you set up Find My iPhone. Activation Lock makes it harder for anyone to use or sell your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch if it’s ever lost or stolen.
With Activation Lock, your Apple ID and password are required before anyone can:
Turn off Find My iPhone on your device
Sign out of iCloud on your device
    Erase and reactivate your device
Important:    Make sure to remember your Apple ID and password, and that your password is unique and secure—someone else shouldn’t be able to guess it. For more information, see the Apple Support article Security and your Apple ID.
If you want to give away or sell your device, be sure to erase your content and settings (in Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings). When you erase your content, Find My iPhone and Activation Lock are also turned off.
If you no longer have the device, follow the instructions to remove a device you no longer have. For more information, see the Apple Support article What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
For more information about Activation Lock, see the Apple Support article Find My iPhone Activation Lock in iOS 7.
