Previous version of Firefox killed Zone Alarm - has this problem been corrected?

While installing the previous version update of Firefox it showed a box on the screen saying it had found an incompatible file in Zone Alarm Ultimate Security and was deleting it. No further explanation - and no way for me to say 'yes' or 'no'. Sure enough, the ZA panel showed that I was not protected. Unacceptable. Went to IE, with the MS firewall and anti virus, crossed my fingers, toes, eyes etc and got back on line. Finally managed to download Zone Alarm again - took a big chunk out of my monthly Verizon data allowance. Switched to Chrome, it plays nicely with ZA, but I would much rather use Firefox. So - has this foul-up been corrected. Is it safe to come back to Firefox? May 23, 2014

Thanks for the explanation - and I must admit, somewhat more polite than my post. I don't want to have to again go through the trauma of having to keep my firewall/anti-virus program working properly, I guess I'm stuck with Chrome.

  • HT201413 when i installed itunes in my old computer it would disable my CD burner and I was only able to burn through itunes. has this problem been resloved or will i have the same problem when i download it into my new computer?

    When I installed itunes into my old computer (loaded with Windows Vista) it deleated my CD burner and would only allow me to burn via itunes - I had to go in to Best Buy to have them fis the problem but was told not to download new updates for itunes or it would do the same. with this fix I am not able to burn CDs from itunes which is a bummer.  If I download itunes onto my new  computer (loaded with Windows 7) is it going to do the same thing or has  this problem been resolved?

    Copy them from your old computer, or your backuo copy of your old computer. to your new one.
    The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  the exception is itunes purchases.

  • I want to go back to the previous version of firefox, I have had nothing but problems with this version

    before I downloaded 4.0 I used to be able to use more options with my work email, Lotus notes....now I get all kinds of errors....I never had any problems with the previous version.

    Firefox 3.6 will still be supported with security updates for a while, so if you don't want to work on troubleshooting the specific problems, you can roll back.
    First, make a backup of your computer for safekeeping. To back up Firefox, see [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information].
    Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
    Close Firefox 4, and uninstall it. Do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.
    Then finally you can reinstall Firefox 3.6. Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, it should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.
    Note: I haven't actually tried this myself!
    By the way, someone else just posted about a Lotus email problem: [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/814413 The Webmail version of Lotus knows keep giving the following error message: A problem has occurred which may have caused the current operation to fail. • I understand the design change to the whole "save as app" tab, but I feel that Save and Quit feature from the previous version of Firefox is much better than this "app tab" feature. Is there anyway for me to have this back?

    Restore previous session button available on my Firefox homepage is great, but what I really want is the Save and Quit feature. I have always felt that its one of the best features of Firefox, second only to search address bar directly leading me to the actual page. I read some threads about this, and found the answers very unconvincing. One of the suggested ones was "Pin as app tab" . No, I don't want to pin every tab that I want to visit say, thrice as an app. Second suggestion was, click on the obvious button on the homepage to restore the tabs(this took me quite a while to actually see). Why this change in design? This is identical to Chrome's but its very inferior to what Firefox already had. Is there anyway, without downgrading of course, I can get that feature back?

    Okay, I found the answer myself. Going to about:config and setting browser.showQuitWarning to true, restored that option and brought it back. Thanks to anyone who is about to post. If this is false by default, it has got to change.

  • Firefox is asking me to update to v5 but are saying this version is not compatible with Google. Has this problem been resolved yet?

    I updated my browser to v5 and was told that it would not be compatible with Google at this time. I was not able to log onto Google nor bring up the Google toolbar and related search ability.
    I have therefore switched back to v4.01 and I now can use Google. Is this new version 5 now compatible with Google or will it ever be??
    Thanks Bill

  • HT5130 Has this update been corrected for the problems it can cause with Rosetta?

    I have just done a clean install of Snow Leopard onto a used Mac Pro recently puchased.   I want to upgrade to the latest version of Snow Leopard, but I am worried about breaking Rosetta because of the security update 2012-001 problem - if it is included in whatever combo update I used to get to the latest version of SL.    How should I proceed ?   Just install the latest SL update, and then 2012-001 v1.1 if Rosetta is broken ?   Or is the bad security update not a part of any of the SL combo updates ?   Thanks.

  • Hypertext link in email opens my previous version of Firefox, not the one I upgraded to.

    Greetings, each time I upgrade to the newest version of Firefox I'm running into this problem. If I open the browser directly, it opens the newest version. If I click a hypertext link in my email, it opens my previous version and I get a message saying I need to upgrade. How do I fix this?

    I also had this problem. After the hint from jsher2000 above, I checked the add-ons.
    It's still called "AVG Safe Search" in the Add-ons Manager in Firefox. (Either under Tools/Add-ons or under the orange "Firefox": Add-ons (Or Ctrl-shift A)
    I found AVG Safe Search disabled in my list of add ons, and enabled it.
    Voila, the icons now appeared in the searches!

  • Has this bug been fixed in 1.3 and beyond?

    There is a problem with adding a Mnemonic to a JLabel and linking it to a JTextField (I haven't tried other JTextComponents). Copy the following code, and try to run it:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class SwingProblem
       public static void main( String [] args )
             Create labels and text fields.
             You can use the keyboard mnemonics to switch
             between the fields: ALT-S and ALT-J.
          // For the top of the frame
          JLabel jlTop = new JLabel( "Swing" );
          jlTop.setDisplayedMnemonic( KeyEvent.VK_S );

  • I upgrade from the previous version to Firefox 4.o, I can no longer connect to my work HTTPS website.

    The site I connect to is my citrix account at work, which needs a certificate. I could connect with the previous version of Firefox (3.6). When I upgraded the browser I got the errors mentioned earlier. I changed the setting for the specific setting from false to true. I still unable to connect and got a different error. Could someone please help! Thanks - Aldo

    If you used the option to delete settings, or whatever it is worded when uninstalling, Firefox will remove all your important data information from profiles for all installed versions of Firefox, and you will then need luck and a file recovery utility to try to restore the information.
    You mentioned files being moved to Trash, I was hoping you may still have the required original files. I use Windows XP, and I realise Macs use different locations for files, but I think the files have the same names.

  • I downloaded firefox 3.6.13 and now when moving through sites it will unexpectedly not be able to load a page within a site. How do I fix this problem or revert to a previous version of firefox?

    The first few sessions Firefox seemed to be running great with improved speed. Yesterday, when I opened Firefox it could not open my homepage even though I checked for my internet connection ... my email service was working perfectly. I rebooted the computer and started Firefox and the homepage opened fine. I then visited an online newspaper site opened from my bookmarks. I was able to read one or two articles on different pages, but then when I selected another page in this site, Firefox was not able to access it (just keep trying to make a connection to the page). I restarted Firefox and went into an online banking site, again through a bookmark. Again after successfully accessing several different pages in the site Firefox was unable to connect to a requested page.
    Later in the day I restarted Firefox, entered the banking site and successfully completed my transaction. Visited several other sites and had no problems, then again Firefox could not load a page.
    This problem has continued today when looking at the online paper.
    I would like either a fix to this problem, or to return to the previous version of Firefox.

    Google Toolbar Options, in the Search tab, make sure that '''Enable the Google new tab page''' is check-marked. If that doesn't fix it for you, see this for support information about the Google Toolbar. <br />

    As far as your UserAgent showing Firefox 3.0.11, see this: <br />

    You might want to consider getting rid of that '''desktopsmiley''' program that has messed up your UserAgent, it is known as Malware.

  • How do I roll-back to the previous version of Firefox? An auto update occurred and now one of the programs used at the office (ACT! v6.0 SwiftMail) won't run with the browser.

    The office I work in uses a very old version of ACT!, an accounting package. This package has a component called SwiftPage, an antiquated email system that enables us to email from the ACT DB. SwiftPage runs via the web browser.
    Firefox just did an auto update (that I will have to find out how to turn off) and now SwiftPage won't run as it is not compatible.
    Can I "roll-back" my version of Firefox or do I have to uninstall and try to re-install an older version?
    HELP!

    Try loading and using the add-on from this link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/
    Many add-ons do in fact work if you force them to run. The procedure to roll-back is given in this article: [[installing previous versions of firefox]]
    Unfortunately the official Firefox policy is that you downgrade to 3.6 which is supported for a while longer, and not the now unsupported Firefox 4. If after installing and running the ''add-on compatibility reporter'' you still have problems there are ways around the official policy.
    I think it is absurd that Firefox 4 may be used by tens of millions of users one day and a few days later those that upgrade to Firefox 5 should be not only told not to use a now unsupported browser, if they need to revert due to problems, but are actually obstructed in attempts to do so. • How do you downgrade to a previous version of firefox?

    How do you down grade to a previous version of Firefox on an Android Phone? Current versions of Firefox no longer work with our WIFI network. Starting sometime around version 33 or 34 we started noticing that while using WIFI, Firefox would freeze every minute or two. Basically it would start to load a page then the progress bar would stop about 1/6th of the way across the screen. If you wait several minutes the bar would continue to about 5/6th of the way across the screen and then stop and not continue to load the page. If you turn WIFI off and then back on, Firefox will again work for a minute or two then freeze again. The timing is very specific and is not bound by a number of clicks. It also happens on all websites. The problem is not with the WIFI network because all programs including Chrome and the Android Browser work fine with WIFI. Also previous versions of Firefox work fine with the WIFI. We have the problem across several phone and manufacture types as well as across Android versions. We also did not have the freezing problem during a time of lower WIFI usage. So the problem specifically has to do with using newer versions of Firefox on a busy WIFI network. Because it may take time to fix these issues in Firefox we would like to downgrade to a previous version of Firefox that we know works with our WIFI network.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Roland
    Here are the answers to your questions:
    What models of Android tablets and phones are you using?
    Samsung Note 4 (running Android 5.0.1), Samsung Rugby Pro (Running Android 4.1.2), Galaxy S5 Active (running Android 4.4.4) & Kyocera-E6560 (Running Android 4.4.2). There are others, but these are the ones I have access to right now.
    What version of Firefox for Android are you using?
    I started noticing the problem with version 34 on. It could have started with earlier versions but I first noticed it with version 34--we did a large phone upgrade and installed version 34 which was the current version at the time. I just tried 37.02 and am still having the problem.
    As a side note I have an old Samsung note 1 (on Android 3.0.8). It is running Version 17 of Firefox and does not have the same problem.
    Steps to reproduce: What did you do exactly, what happened and what did you expect?
    For instance if I do a Google search trying to research something I type in the search hit and hit go. I then click on a link in the search and let the page load. Look at the page to see if it has the answer I need. Then hit the back button and repeat the process with the next link. After about 1.5 to 2 minutes Firefox starts to load the page then the progress bar freezes about 1/6th of the way across the screen. If you wait several minutes the progress bar generally will continue to about 4/6th or 5/6th of the way across the screen then freeze again. If you turn WIFI off then on again Firefox will work for another 1.5 to 2 minutes and freeze again.
    Same thing happens if you are on a web page clicking through links on the page. The problem occurs on all web pages.
    Also more details on your wifi network would be helpful:
    Hmmm, this is a difficult one--I work at the University of Washington, but not with the IT department that manages the technology infrastructure. So I don’t have a lot of technical details. Basically (among other jobs) I do the phone support for the Campus maintenance division. I support 250 to 300 users. While I do not have a lot of the specifics I will do my best to give you a general idea.
    The best way to think of the UW is a small city. We have about 45,000 students and somewhere between 20,000 to 30,000 staff plus visitors. On any given day we can have 80,000 to 90,000 people on campus all of which are capable of using the WIFI network. So when I say we have a high volume WIFI network it is extremely high volume.
    I noticed the problem with Firefox before and after spring break, but did not have the problem during spring break. WIFI usage would have been way down during this time because there would have been fewer people on campus. So the problem only seems to occur when volumes are very high.
    I had a meeting with a UW-IT rep several months ago and he explained that the 2.4 network was near capacity some places on campus, but the 5.0 network had plenty of bandwidth on it. I think most of the phones I have been using work on the 2.4 network, but the Note 4 works with the 5.0 network also and has the same problem. Additionally all other programs work fine with WIFI so I do not think capacity is the issue.
    Also I know Firefox itself is not the issue because it worked during spring break and it works on the cellular network. So some combo of the high volume network and Firefox seems to be creating the problem. Maybe has to do with how Firefox handles things when capacity is reached or exceeded.
    As another side note I did not have the problem with my home network, but I was only using 2 phones at the time.
    It sounds like you are technical since you have done so much testing. Please file a bug with the steps to reproduce at:
    I have some technical skills, but really I am just good at research. I will do my best with the bug report :)
    As for downgrading (which we DO NOT recommend & support since older versions don't have security fixes!) you can install an old nightly from:
    I will try to work my way back to see if I can figure out what version of Firefox the problem started with.
    Please let me know if you have any ideas or need any additional info.
    Thanks!

  • The new version is not compatible with my digital finger signiture. Will this be fixed? If not, I will need to go back to the previous version of firefox

    My HP laptop has a digital signature for accessing my pages such as email, facebook, etc. Since I updated firefox, this is no longer compatible and does not work. It is very painful, I really want and need to use it. Does this mean I need to downgrade to the previous version of firefox?

    You can increase the String pref layout.css.devPixelsPerPx from 1.0 to 2.0 in 0.1 steps to see what works best.
    In Firefox 3.6 and later this pref is a String value parsed to a float and allows to fine tune the dimensions of all elements more precisely.
