Previously purchased download error on iPad

So I went kind of crazy downloading previously purchased music in iTunes onto my new iPad 2.  I set over 100 songs to download, then went to watch a streaming movie.  The downloads were slowing down my connection (I have kind of crappy broadband) so I paused them after 20-30 songs had finished.  I forgot about it and came back a couple of days later and tried to resume the downloads one at a time, but I just get a download error that says "[Title of Song] could not be downloaded at this time." No matter how much I "tap to retry" it will not download.  If I try to download other previously purchased songs that I hadn't already set to download, it works fine.  If I look up the songs I'm trying to download in the Purchased section of iTunes, the songs are marked as downloaded.  If I look up the songs in the Music app on my iPad, the songs and albums appear in the list, but there's no album art, and if I try to play them, it just tries to resume the download and we're back to the download error. The songs are definitely not on my iPad.  Any idea what's going on and  how to fix it?  Syncing from my computer is not an option right now, as my iBook is so ancient I can't run a current enough version of iTunes to hook up my iPad - I set it up using my work computer, which does not have my music collection on it and needs to stay that way per company policy.  I'm really hoping there's a cloud-based solution to this weirdness.

Ah-ha, okay. I figured this out, pretty much by accident.  If this happens to anyone else, here's how to fix it.
In the iTunes Music app (not the store app, but where you actually play your music once it's downloaded), songs in the queue but not completely downloaded yet will have a button next to it that looks only vaguely like a stop button on a remote - a tiny square within a circle. Hitting that button cancels the download.  Note that there is no way that I saw to do this within the iTunes Store.  Yeesh.  Apple is usually better about usability than that.  But anyway, canceling the download within Music will remove the songs from the queue within iTunes Store and then the little cloud download icon will reappear beside the songs in question.  The songs I have tried so far have all downloaded just fine.

When I try to play a previously purchased/downloaded song, I get an error message that states "The song .... could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" If I try to locate in my files, I can't find it. But when I go to my previously purchased songs, there isn't the option for me to re-download the song.

You are in a country where music can be redownloaded i.e. music appears as a category in the Purchased link ? If it does, and as long as that track is still in your country's store, then deleting that track from your iTunes library (where you are getting the 'unable to locate' message) should get it to appear in Purchased with the cloud symbol for redownloading - as you still have it listed in your library iTunes is assuming that you still have the track somewhere and that it doesn't need redownloading. If that track still doesn't show in Purchased (and it's still in the store) then check to see if it's hidden : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919

How can I watch my previously purchased movies on my ipad?

You cannot stream them to your iPad unfortunately... You can download them however. Go to the iTunes Store app -> tap the purchased button at the bottom right -> tap the view: Music in the top left and select Movies. From there you can download the one you want...

  • Bought a TV season and only some episodes downloaded where remaining had "download error" on iPad 1

Bought a TV season and only some episodes downloaded where remaining had "download error" on iPad 1? Tried many times for few days with no use. Tried restarting too. Device has enough memory too!

Because of the error message, I'm not sure if any of this will work, but I suppose it's worth a shot.
Sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to resume the downloads.
If the TV shows appear at all in the videos app - did you try tapping and holding down on the icons to see if the X to delete pops up? Is there any evidence of the stalled downloads on the iPad in the videos app? If you could delte them, you might be able to resume the downloads.
If you live in the U.S., Canada, The UK or Australia, TV shows can be downloaded again at no charge as long as you use the same Apple ID.

  • How do I get previously purchased downloads on my new ipod

I had to replace my ipod due to theft. I have logged on and set up my new ipod but can not find previously purchased downloads now. Can I put them on my new ipod? If so, how?

All your downloads should be in iTunes.
Did you purchase the items on the iPod?
If you did, did you transfer the purchases from the iPod to iTunes?

If you are in the US then yes, you can re-download past music purchases (assuming that they are still available in the store). If you are not in the US then have you not got a backup anywhere of your music purchases ?

  • Can't download previously purchased music to new iPad "Associated with another Apple ID"

    Hi There,
I have a brand new iPad Air and can see my previous purchases in the Music app. But when I try to download (by clicking the download/cloud icon) I get a confusing error:
"This device is already associated with an Apple ID".
The thing is, this is a brand new device - how could it be associated with another Apple ID?
The only other Apple ID on the device is the one used for iCloud - could this be confusing things?
Does anyone know how to get music onto the device?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ben

    Thanks Amish,
Dang it, I accidently marked your question as the answer from the email notifcation and can't change it.
I purchased it from Apple and have been in contact with them for over a week. Unfortuantely, they insist I'm logged in using differnt accounts despite me sending screen shots to the contrary.
I'm posting here becauase I'm getting nowhere with Apple - it's like they're stonewalling or the person I'm dealing with (Russ) is assuming I'm an idiot.
I've been using Apple products for 25 years, look after an OSX server (have also maintained a Microsoft SBS server) so am quite familiar with computers and user accounts.
But this situation has me stmped - both in terms of why it doesn't work, and why I can't get Russ to understand that I'm not logged in using a different Apple ID.
He keeps senindg me links to iTunes terms and conditions - I can't listen to music purchased from Apple on my Apple dvices also purchased from Apple. How can iTunes Ts & Cs justify that?
I've decided to a go a differnt route and report a problem via iTunes and see if I get a more helpful support guy.

  • ITunes 11.0.2 (Win 7 Pro, 64-bit) previously purchased downloads (cloud) fail (repeat 6x)

Summary:  Under a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) with all patches applied, verified malware free (Sophos rootkit and virus detection tools and a Microsoft Security scan) iTunes fails to download previous purchases and then store/commit them on the computer.
Detailed Description:  What I am presented with is a list of songs that are not on my PC but I can re-download.  I click the litle cloud icon and the download begins.  But after the file downloads it won't process/transfer into my library and cycles through 5 more attempts.  (The little grey Harvey ball  icon starts out empty, slowly fills in a clockwise pattern, and when 100% grey (full) it repeats.
Eventually iTunes gives a non-descriptive failure message.  I'm stuck.
    What I've tried to do:
    I've tried several things, including:
    - Reinstalling iTunes (with reboots inbetween)
    - Turning off then on the iTunes "Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases"
    - Reviewing permissions of iTunes directory (per other Apple KB articles and forum advice)
    - Reviewing iTunes and supporting file folders/directories for missing things like the 'SC info' directory.
    - Exiting iTunes, killing iTunes processes and iTunes Helper, renaming the iTunes folder "OLD-iTunes" and restarting iTunes to create new iTunes subfolders and again testing the downloads from the cloud -- which fail. I then restore my old iTunes directory, exit iTunes (and kill processes) and start iTunes again.
    - Checking IE 10 security settings (even though I'm not using IE 10 as my browser, there are apparently ActiveX and other security setting implications that affect the overall system.  Learned that when initially trying to install iTunes in the first place.)
    - Deauthorizing / reauthorizing the machine
    - Calling Apple Support who couldn't figure it out.
Any ideas that aren't inane or ones already tried above?
    Thanks so much!

Nothing I tried helped.  Apple Support couldn't figure it out.
I suspect it had to do with a security patch that MS recently issued then promptly recalled due to failures it caused on many users' systems.  I am merely speculating, based on some of the odd errors I saw and the timing of the events.
Alongside the iTunes issue, there were other system errors and security problems I had noticed; namely with Java apps and the built-in security controls of the system.  (Again, assuming I was malware-free since I did deep testing with 2 Microsoft tools and some Sophos tools which yielded clean results.)
Nevertheless, I did not solve my problem with technical intelligence.  Instead, I wiped the machine and did a fresh install of Windows 7 and then copied my files back into place.  (I did NOT do a system restore as to avoid reintroducing a problem from a known bad installation.)
That was only a 5 or 6 hour committmenet but "solved" my problem.

  • Download error on ipad mini with amazon book

i have downloaded many books that i have purchased on Amazon, onto my ipad mini kindle app with no problem.  This one book, however, won't download.  I get a msg "Download error."  not sure what to do.  I can't figure out how to delete it from the ipad.  Thx

Turn off any auto-update, if it is on, then tap.any of the "circle icons" showing that a download is in progress, in order to stop the download. Then go to the Settings and reset the Network Settings. After the iPad starts back up, then check to make sure no apps are currently in progress of downloading. If any are, stop them again, and reset the network settings again. When it starts up again, none should be in the process of downloading. Then from that point forward, only download manually and never more than two at a time. If it is more than 100 MB, then do only one at a time. If any gets stuck at that point, then stop the download and reset the Network settings.
That should take care of you for now. We'll see what another update brings ... IOS 8.2 (which might be the next one).

  • Cant redownload previous purchase "an error has occured"

Im having this issue only with Civilization V. All other programs DL fine.
I started it a few days back. DL approx 50 % and had to quit.
Since then I have been unable to start the DL again.
I cant find the temp file (if there is one) to delete it and start all over.
Each time I attempt to "install" it again it gives me the error "An error has occured".
Rebooted several times, tried another internet connection. Still no-go. I can DL any other previous purchase without issue.
Im sure this has to do with the fact it partially downloaded and now it will not restart.

    Select
    Store ▹ View My Account
from the App Store menu bar, then select View hidden purchases. Stop or resume the download.

  • Playing previously purchased iTunes movies on iPad?

Hi, I have previously purchased movies on iTunes using my iMac. I have synced them to my new iPad. I can play the music I synced by pressing "iPod", and the tv shows by pressing "videos". I just can't find where the movies have synced to? My imac assures me they're synced. How do I play them? Do I need to download another app?
    Thanks!!!!!

Thankyou all! I had done all of that but I hadn't restarted both iMac and iPad. I restarted and it came up as not having sync movies checked. Don't know why but this time the sync worked. I feel like such a moron. Restarting is such a pc fix that I've got out of the habit!

  • ITunes won't sync 1 episode of a season from a purchased download to my ipad

I Bought a season of a T.V. Show and downloaded 7 episodes (about 1/2 the season) to my iPad.
When I sync my iPad to my PC iTunes and select "sync downloaded purchases to iTunes" all the episodes sync to my iTunes from the iPad..... Except 1.
The episode is definitely on the iPad as it plays... BUT when I look at all the episodes allegedly on the iPad through ITunes the episode dose not show as being on the iPad and therefore does not sync to iTunes.
I Disconnected the iPad and used iTunes to go to the store and selected "Purchase" and it shows That episode as NOT downloaded!! ( but recognised the others have and are already in iTunes.
As I said it has downloaded (to the iPad) as it plays! And all the other episodes sync to iTunes ok in the same session?
I Could just download it again to iTunes but that's another 1.5 GB of data allowance chewed up when I already did that to get it on my ipad.

I had this problem.  Then I changed some of the music in my iTunes (manually going through to make an album "part of a compilation" just because another Artist happens to contribute to a song, so iTunes assumes its a different album?).  I then tried to sync but only some of my music came across, got the circles too.  I did a restore of my new iPhone 6 Plus and setting it up as a new phone and synced again, but then noticed some other albums needed updating on the library so did that, tried to sync and it won't.  Same songs not coming across as before.  I am in the process of deleting the library from my phone and will try again.  Otherwise, I have to do another restore and try again.  Will have I have to restore and start from scratch every time I manually update my library?  iTunes needs sorting out!!!!

  • Movie Download error on iPad

Have 1 one stuck on my downloads that keep reading download error every time I retry . I have reset my network setting, deleted some video space , reset all setting except content. I download amtv show and goes though just fine. The movie I want to download is stuck on this download state and can't seem to reset the download list . It downloads fine on other devices lie my iPad 2 or iPhones

    Hi chachirims!
You have gone through some great troubleshooting steps, but if the download is still stuck after the options you have tried, then we might need to go ahead and restore the iPad. You will want to make sure you have a good back up of your data, and you can find instructions on how to do that here:
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
You will then want to follow the instructions in the article below in order to restore your operating system on your iPad:
