Pricing teh Upgrades

I think the pricing for the recent LR4 upgrade is very nice, but still, buying LR3 on past October-November, scarcely 4 months ago, which have been invested in a steep learning curve ( I was new to Lightroom), I find no incentive  to go for the upgrade at this point.  One point to make, most photographers ae not interested in video, so that addition works for videographers and not for the majority of the users which I suppose ar ein the other category. I would propose an upgrade avenue based on date of purchase. I leave it to the marketing brains to figure this out, but even though LR3 is LR3 is LR3... it's not the same to upgrade for a person that bought it 4 months before the newest version as it is for someone that bought it a 12months ago or more. This could give some  pce to developers also, so they could work on new features for every 2-3 years on the dot, so nobody is surprised. If that were so, a stepped pricing for upgrades wouldn't be necessary, eveyone knowing when the new software was due. But that happens only in paradise, no?    IMO It is not fair  to burden a new user who is just getting comfortable with the program with a new spenditure for a revision coming too soon for him/her. It took me some time while I analized and compared to take the plunge and then, a new version is out there, smiling at me, tempting me... But not enough, since my pockect sighed and cried a little bit. A less pricey upgrade or even a free version  would make me mor ethan happy to continue stepping up with every new version.

Have you contacted Adobe, if you might be eligible for a free upgrade?
They do that for *recent* LR3 purchases - no idea, how many months they exactly include as recent.
So they clearly see the point that nobody wants to cash out twice so soon.
Concerning functionality and learning: in my opinion the best features of the upgrade are the new development algorithms, leading to better image quality. They need some time getting used to, but it is fortunate that you do not need to touch your existing LR3-developed images, unless you spot one where you think it should be further improved.
How big is your LR3-catalog after your 4 months of using LR3?
Maybe you contact Adobe regarding the price-delta for you

and wait for LR4-help materials, especially for Victoria Bampton's "The missing Frequently Asked Questions" in version LR4 (for a preview on LR3 see http://www.lightroomqueen.com/books/adobe-lightroom-3-missing-faq/book-excerpts/).
Regarding how to learn the new development logic you may look at these posts:

  • Wierd Pricing for Upgrades

Earlied this month I upgraded from Studio 8 to CS3 Web
    Standard - $399.
Had I waited, I see I could upgrade from Studio 8 to CS4 Web
    Standard
    for the same price: $399.
Because I upgraded to CS3 Web Standard, I see that it will
    cost me an
additional $388 to upgrade for CS4 Web Standard. This makes
    no sense.
    Going from Studio 8 directly to CS4 - $399.
    Going from Studio 8 to CS3 to CS4 - $798.
Am I reading this upgrade pricing correctly?

And it's why I've decided to ignore the upgrade this time.
    Last time we
were told if you got two upgrades behind, you had to
    repurchase. This
time that deal is off and you can go all the way back to
    MX2004 and
upgrade for the same price I can upgrade when I bought CS3.
    Think
I'll wait until Adobe starts lowballing the price again. SOME
    software

  • New iTunes Plus pricing and upgrades

Does anyone know why I still have to pay 30 cents per song to upgrade my purchases to iTunes Plus, when the songs now cost only 99 cents? I understood paying the upgrade when the songs were $1.29. Now, it seems like we are getting screwed. Also, some of my purchases are not recognized by iTunes to be eligible for the upgrade (specifically, Dark Side of the Moon, which is one I would certainly want to upgrade and clearly shows up on my purchase history). Shouldn't Apple let us upgrade for free now that the iTunes Plus is the same price as the song for which we originally paid? Also, shouldn't there be some way to manually access the upgrade?

The only answer anyone here can give you is "because that's the way it is". Most likely EMI considers the Plus tracks as a separate product and wants more money for them, but that's just guessing.
some of my purchases are not recognized by iTunes to be eligible for the upgrade (specifically, Dark Side of the Moon, which is one I would certainly want to upgrade and clearly shows up on my purchase history).
If a tracks shows as being available as Plus and is not appearing when you check for eligible upgrades, contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department using the form at the bottom of the Purchase Issues FAQ web page and explain the problem to them.

  • Pricing on upgrades to Photoshop CC or already PS owners

    Hi to all,
I 've got a short but effective question, where i don't find a definitive awnser on the not that clear Adobe Website, ( please Adobe you make software for creatives and have a corporate site , make it creative friendly:) )
    Any way,
I am PS owner since version 3 . And upgraded to every version, since.
The question i have, are there also adapted PS CC prices (cloud upgrades) for Upgrade people who only have Photoshop ( and do not want or need the complete Adobe collecton) ..?
    Thanks

  • CS5 to CS6 upgrade and creative cloud pricing

I dont understand adobe's logic with pricing of upgrades compared to the cloud.
I bought the cs5 master collection upgrade from a single suit at least in part because I assumed each subsequent upgrade would be about $800.  I skipped cs5.5 because it
    a) it was priced as a whole version number upgrade
    b) my core apps werent updated.
Now I come to upgrade to CS6 and find that I have to pay again for a single suit upgrade. There is no upgrade path from CS5 master to CS6 master.  That is a rip off to start.
I also find that even paying the full price on yearly contract its far cheaper to go with the cloud over the expected lifetime of the product: over 2 years its $1200.  The upgrade path I have available is around $1500.
How does that make the upgrade viable?
And finally having to post this here because there is no formal route to contact adobe sales via email. If anyone can provide one i'd be obliged.

I have had Adobe software for a long long time, and I decided to drop my perpetual licenses for the Creative Cloud. I upgrade every version anyway (more or less) so it's not a big deal for me price wise.
I also use more than just the Production suite software (Acrobat and Dreamweaver) so Creative Cloud sort of consolidates all of that.
My current experience is...the Creative Cloud is a work in progress. There are still features that aren't there yet, like the Creative Cloud desktop app, and some other functionality that's all coming sometime later this summer or this year. The online storage is nice. The website hosting is nice too (although I haven't quite got it working yet).
I do have access to other programs I didn't have before like InDesign and Fireworks, so I've found those interesting to toy around with. Over the years I'd occasionally get an InDesign layout from someone and be unable to do anything with it, so that does solve a rare problem for me as well.
I'd say if you qualify for the discount pricing (which means you're either a student/teacher/edu subscriber, or own an existing CS3, CS4 or CS5 suite) then the $29/month is awesome. Just do it. If you're looking at the $49/month price, maybe not so much.
If you are only an infrequent creative type and only do video/image/print projects occasionally, go with the month-to-month plan and you don't have to worry about getting stuck on the long term, and you only pay for the software whenever you need it.

  • CS 5.5 upgrade - academic pricing?

Has anyone heard about the existence of academic pricing for the CS 5.5 upgrade?

Well, Adobe doesn't actually offer education pricing on upgrades, probably because the academic editions are already deeply discounted...  (this is one of the few important ways that the Student & Teacher Editions are different)
However, you can still upgrade it though normally - in fact Adobe was also recently asked a few questions about this, the student upgrade options for CS5.5.
    Hope this helps!

  • WLS server upgrading problems from 8.1 to 9.2

We had our application running on WLS 8.1.
Trying to upgrade to 9.2 using teh upgrade.sh script ( which uses 'java weblogic.Upgrade' inside ).
Even after it has reported that it has successfully upgraded the domain, when I login using the admin console, I see that the managed servrs are missing. So are all the resources ( JMS, connectionpool etc ) and all our EJBs.
Essentially we end up with a new admin server with nothing in it.
Has somebody else experienced this problem ?
If yes, are there any work arounds.

I'll make this simple for you, from one point of view. You've ported your application from one major release to another major release of the application server. Are you actually considering NOT testing some aspect of your application after that major a change? You should retest every aspect of your application.

    Hello,
I am a current student at a University and wish to upgrade my CS5.5 Production Premium to CS6 Production Premium at a student price. Is this even possible? How much is it and where do I go to get it?

  • Upgrade from Master Suite CS5.5 to CS6

I currently own the Master Collection CS5.5 for Mac (Running on Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.3). I am not interested in converting to Creative Cloud right now, but would like to upgrade to the Master Collection CS6 for Mac. It appears as though this option is still currently available through Adobe, but does anyone know what the cost is for current students? I have searched the Adobe website, but was unable to find information regarding any pricing for upgrades.

There are no upgrades for student versions. You simply buy the normal commercial upgrade or a full new S&T license of CS6.

  • Upgrading from After Effects CS5 to CS6

I am creating a new post for this since my previous post on Design Premium was "Answered" yeaterday.
I went ahead and purchased the Creative Suite Design Premium 5.5 Upgrade today which apparently includes a FREE upgrade to CS6 Web & Design Premium Package following its release (i.e. if you pay for the upgrade from 5.0 to 5.5 before May 6th you get a FREE Upgrade to CS6).
Unfortunately Design Premium Suite of products does not include AE so I have always had to purchase that upgrade separately. Am I correct that there is no such similar upgrade incentive for a single product like After Effects CS5 as is being offered on the Design Premium Suite right now?
Regarding my After Effects "standalone" copy, from what I can tell, my upgrade cost to CS6 would be the same as if I had never upgraded to CS5 (i.e. the upgrade price to CS 6 from CS3 or CS4 is the same as upgrading from CS5) - about $350, but if I upgraded to AE_CS5.5 then the jump to CS6 would be about $175, but if I upgrade "now" to AECS5.5, it would be $179 + another $175 when AECS6 comes out - is that right? $179 seems like a fair upgrade price from AE_CS5 to AE_CS6, but $350 is pretty steep for just one product - especially since 5.5 was not a full incremental jump?
Am I missing something? From where I am right now, my only path from AE_CS5 to AE-CS6 is about $350? (i.e. about the same price as being forced into the entire Cloud Subscription the first year?). Also, about the same as what I paid today to get ALL my other CS5 Apps upgraded to CS6 in total.

  • Does anyone else think the upgrade to ver 7 is a bit overpriced?

I purchased the full version bundle of PE4 and PSE 6 and have been looking forward to the new versions - but I only see a $30 price difference between teh upgrade and the new, full version.
Isn't that a little uut-of-whack, even for Adobe? I just don't know if it's worth it.
    Small rant, over now.

This is a very interesting discussion as I am doing precisely this as well. <br />I am taking my old home movies, pulling in the 2-hour video and then <br />splitting it in PE7 (via control-k). I then make individual avi's from it by <br />deleting all the segments except one, "sharing" the avi, reloading (or <br />undoing) to get my clips back and deleting all except the next one. its a <br />tedious business but it works.<br /><br />Mark<br /><br /><br /><[email protected]> wrote in message <br />news:[email protected]..<br />> Bill, Jarek,<br />><br />> Thanks for the suggestions. I think I had tried Scenalyzer a year or so <br />> ago, but I'll take another look, as dividing by scene into individual AVIs <br />> is exactly what I would like to do.<br />><br />> Also, so far all my scene-analyzed content has been projects upgraded from <br />> PRE4. So maybe if PRE7 actually does the analysis it will put all the <br />> clips it in the organizer? We'll see... I'll be doing that soon.<br />><br />> So, yes, there are ways around things - and that's good to know. But that <br />> was kind of my point in this thread: that I wish Adobe would put a little <br />> more energy into making what they already have work better... saving <br />> scene-analyzed AVI content as clips but not AVI; allowing keyword tagging <br />> in one place but not another; allowing gradient-colored fonts but no <br />> background... these are things you could understand in a V1 product, but <br />> version 7?<br />><br />> All in all, Premiere is a great product. It's very rare that I haven't <br />> been able to do *exactly* what I wanted to do. And for the price they <br />> charge, that's pretty impressive. But the question was whether V7 was <br />> worth the upgrade price, and for me, it wasn't. Way too much focus on <br />> "bloatware" and way too little focus on core competencies. IMO!

  • PS CS4 upgrade

Is it possible to add the CS4 upgrade to CS3 Extended? I am not really sure that I need what comes with the extended version.
    Thanks
    Bob

That's not what J.Nack, the Photoshop manager said on his blog.
A couple of folks have written to ask whether it's possible to upgrade from Photoshop CS3 Extended to Photoshop CS4 (the non-Extended version), or whether once you've bought Extended once you can only buy Extended in the future. The short story is that you have a choice.
It turns out there's an oversight in our pricing and upgrade mechanisms, and CS4 pricing materials don't list a way to go CS3 Extended->CS4 standard. We're working to get that corrected now. You'll need to call Customer Service if you'd like to go down this route, but you might want to wait a few days for them to get the details squared away.
Ultimately, if you choose to buy Photoshop Extended, we want it to be because it's the version that you've determined best fits your needs--not because you don't have options.

  • Upgrade to iPhone 3GS and still use iPhone 3G?

Hey everyone! I've got a 16GB iPhone 3G on Rogers that I got on a 3 year contract last October, and I'm planning on taking advantage of their promotional pricing and upgrading to a 32GB iPhone 3GS for $550. I'm just wondering, after I upgrade and do a restore on my old iPhone to wipe it, can I use the SIM card from the new iPhone to activate the old one, and them remove it and give the old one to my sister to use as an iPod Touch, or will the SIM card that's in the old one still activate it? Or, do they just put the SIM from the old one in the new one when I buy it (Which is what they'd do for any other GSM phone, but this is an iPhone so it MAY be different)? She's willing to pay me $200 for it which will help cover the cost of the new one. I don't mind swapping SIMs to re-activate it after software updates because eventually she's going to get a plan for it which will make it unnecessary... Also, I know jail-breaking it will fix that but I don't want to jail-break it.

Ok, I upgraded my phone yesterday in an Apple Retail Store and this is what happened:
    1. They took the SIM card from my old 3G and put it the new one
    2. They activated the new iPhone using the old SIM (It picked up my service immediately)
    3. They gave me both iPhones (The old one still functioning as an iPod) and the new SIM from the new phone separate
After that I took them both home and after restoring my new phone from a backup (And inadvertently losing some cool videos I'd taken), I used the "Erase All Content and Settings" feature on the old one. Two hours later, it woke up inactivated and requesting a "Valid SIM Card". I simply popped the unused SIM from the new phone in, and plugged it in to my sister's iBook. After registering and accepting the license agreement and all that other stuff, it automatically activated and started to sync. It functions perfectly fine as an iPod Touch with or without the SIM card, but there's no chance of making an emergency call since it's always on No Service (The SIM has never been used). I'm just leaving the SIM card in there so she won't have to hunt for it every time she upgrades it.
