Primary screen goes dark when external display is added

Hi,
Earlier, when I was on Mac Lion, I always used to face problems whenever an external Monitor was added to the Mac through the firewire to VGA converter port.
Hoping that Mavericks update would give me a respite from the issue, I upgraded my Mac Pro and to my utter shock, the issue has got magnified in mavericks. The primary screen goes completely dark whenever I add the external monitor.
Any idea how to overcome this issue ?
Thanks in advance !

I meant the mini Display Port intead i wrote firewire port.. Hope it doesn't confuse anyone !

when I use Adobe Send the screen goes dark when I hit send but never seems to complete the send task! and recover the screen?F

    Hi frank at luray,
Does this issue occur with any file that you try to send, or do you find that it's specific to one file? If it's a file-specific error, and the file is large, please try sending the file via Adobe SendNow. (You can sign in to Adobe SendNow at Sign in or create an account | Adobe SendNow using the same credentials you use to sign in to Adobe Send.)
Please let us know how it goes.

  • Screen goes dark when listening to voice mail

My Droid Charge Screen always goes dark when listening to voice mail. if i want to delete or end the call, or go to speaker phone I can't do so by using the touch screen. It also goes black when I am on a call and if I want to activate or deactivate speaker phone I can't. sometimes I lose calls because of this. any way to keep the screen illuminated while on calls or voice mails?

        dishbasher,
Sorry to hear about your Droid Charge device not functioning properly. It drives me crazy when technology does not work the way it is designed to, so lets get this fixed! Have you tried running your device is safe mode http://bit.ly/n2EIBZ  or a master reset http://bit.ly/w21WpW?

  • How can I stop screen going dark when playing movies with night sceans?

When viewing a NetFlix movie, during night sceans, the screen goes dark.

    You don't.
Usually only the free apps do this, paid versions do away with the ads.

  • Screen Goes Dark when No files Are Open

    Hi,
Since I installed the CS 6, I seem to have a problem with my display going dark whenever Illustrator CS 6 doesn't have opened files, i.e., the application runs, no files are open, and my whole screen's brigthness goes down. It only happens with Illustrator CS 6. When I open a file, the screen goes back to normal. Has anyone had that problem?

Unfortunately attempts to take a screenshot to show you have resulted in the interface look as it if were at full brigthness so I can't show you (well unless I edit the screenshot after). But basically the whole screen brightness goes dark until I open a new file. And it only happens with Illustrator CS6. I still haven't been able to solve the issue and I can't find anything on the net about that.

  • Screen goes dark when trying to post.

When i am playing a game, and i go to post something, the screen will go dark and i am unable to do anything but reload the game..would this be related to my flash player because it does not seem to happen to any of the other players..is there something i can adjust?

To help troubleshoot we'll need the following system information:
    Operating   system
    Browser
    Flash   Player version
    link to the game
If possible, please post a screenshot so we can try and understand what's going on when things go "dark".

  • Screen goes dark when the computer is turned a specific way. Have to pick up the computer and move around in order to get the screen back on?

Occasionally when I turn my computer to show someone something the screen goes completely dark. Then I have to re-turn it or move it around to try and get the screen back on. Its not automatic dim because that is turned off. There doesn't seem to be any kind of pattern either. Help please!

  • Screen goes dark when using iTunes.

i use a ipad for a class and during the session it goes dark. How can I keep it awake? Thanks.

I would now try the recommended basic fixes and they are listed here.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit all apps and restart. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You could try to sync with iTunes again using your computer. Make sure all of the apps are selected to sync and then sync again.
You could also try removing all of the apps and then slowly, add them back to the iPad a few apps at a time and see if the iPad continues to crash, just keeping adding apps until it crashes again and then you may be able to find the culprit app. Don't delete the apps from the iPad, just try unsyncing them with iTunes and start adding them back on a few at a time.

  • No Entry sign on start up screen goes dark when I use utility disk

    HELP!!!!
Everything was fine no strange noises or bad behavior but when I started up my MacBook Pro I get a "No Entrance Sign" (or what-ever it's called).
I have unplugged all the peripherals (external drives, monitor, etc) but to no avail.
When I tried booting from a Utilities disk (Disk Warrior) the screen went dark and I could not see the instructions (it was there but very dark and dim).
Is there anything I can do or am I doomed?
    HELP!!!!
    Thanks.

Er, it looks like a "No Entrance" sign. It's OK the cats at The Genius bar understood - they call it a "No Entrance" sign too. It basically means you're screwed and need to get a  new internal drive. Luckily I managed to make a rushed back-up so things are not too severe (just expensive).

  • Siri problem: volume suddenly drops and screen goes dark when turning phone

Hi, just wondering if anyone else has or had this problem. It's been hard to quantify, but here goes.
A number of time, when I  use siri, I will hold the button down to ask a question. Sometimes the volume will drop to a very quiet level so I can barely hear the response. Then the volume will pop right back up to its normal volume. The screen also goes black at this time, and when the volume pops back up, the screen will show the normal info it should at that time, such as what I said, or the clock if I asked for the time, or siri's quote, etc.
Many times I will pick up my phone from a flat surface and turn it on its side as if making a call, and that is when this will happen, as opposed to me holding it flat. It also seems to occur in the morning, when the phone has been asleep overnight or it may be from cooler morning temps.
Any ideas as to whether this is a hardware problem? I've only had the phones couple of months. It's happened so many times now I'm finally seeing this pattern I described.
    Thank you for any feedback!
Ps... I've never had this problem with my ipad 3rd gen, even though I've truest to recreate the conditions, turning it, trying first thing in the morning and so on.

    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
    Restart / Reset

    Backing up, Updating and Restoring
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you try all these Steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...

  • Screen Goes Dark when Magsafe disconnected.

Thats pretty much is the problem. At least once a day, when I unplug my macbook pro from the magsafe (and ac power of course), the screen will go dark, as if its dimmed all the way. You can kina still see something in good lighting, but defiantly unusable. The only way out I found so far is to restart my laptop. Very annoying especially if I many windows open. Any solutions? I poked around the forums but did not see anything so far. Thank you in advance.

Thank you, Exactly what was needed.
The "health" of a battery is the Full Charge Capacity (mAh) listed in your battery info--5451 for yours--divided by the original capacity. For a 15" MBP battery the baseline is usually rounded to 5600. Therefore your health is 5451/5600, or 97 percent. That is a very good number so that does not by itself point to any battery problems.
    The cycle count is basically the number of times the battery has been fully discharged and recharged. A more detailed explanation of "cycles" may be found in this Apple article;
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/
The only thing I see is that the voltage is a little low. Usually they read over 12000. You may need to run a calibration (instructions here) and check the numbers again.
There are a couple of tools to save you having to find a calculator when checking health. One is a free-standing application, Coconut Battery, and the other is a Dashboard widget, iStat Pro. Both do the math for you.

  • Screen Goes Dark When Accessing Email

Up to now my iPhone has been great. However, starting this week-end and continuing on to today, whenever I try to access email I get to the screen with messages and it goes blank before I have a chance to read or dispose of email. Is this a hardware glitch, software problem or do I need to change some setting? Tips would be appreciated as it reduces by a great extent the usefulness of the phone. Thank-you.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

Ifou don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
    In the Console window, select

(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List

There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.

Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

  • Edge 540 model : when I connect/disconnect AC power cord, screen goes dark

For the past few days, everytime I connect the power cord, the screen goes dark for a second. The same thing happens when I disconnect the power cord. Can someone help me find out what is wrong with it? Is it a hardware issue or is it just a momentary glitch (It just started happening yesterday)?
My laptop is brand new so I can use the warranty if i have to.
    OS: Win 8
    Thank you.

this is a normal behaviour it happens all the time. It is your refresh rate changing between different power setting. Set the screen refresh rate at 60 hz for both battery and with ac adapter connected this should prevent the momentary blanking of the lcd.
