Primary target ip address responded with 421.4.4.2 connection dropped due to socket error

Hi,
I'm getting this error when attempting to send messages to a domain rcmoore.com. I'm unable to send or receive messages from this domain. And my exchange 2010 queue viewer gives me an error
: 451.4.4.0 Primary target ip address responded with 421.4.4.2 connection dropped due to socket error " attempted failover to alternate host, but did not
succeed. Either there are no alternate hosts, or delivery failed to all alternate hosts.
Please help.
Subin Suresh

Hello Subin,
Have you tried a telnet to port 25 of the sending domain from the Hub transport/edge (if edge is presented)? This is required a success send. If this is not an issue, try Unchecking of "Enable Domain Security" at the properties
of the send connector and do a test

    hi All,
I have 2 HT, located different AD Site. HT1 located in HO Site, and HT2 located in Branch Site.
User from HO site can send email to branch site, but user from branch site cannot send email to HO site.
I found this error on Queue Viewer Console:
451 4.4.0 Primary target IP address responded with: ""421 4.4.2 Connection dropped due to SocketError."" Attempted failover to alternate host, but that did not succeed. Either there are no alternate hosts, or delivery failed

disable all receive connector except default connector still no luck. Telnet SMTP to HT1 from HT2 is working fine.

    Hi Mehmet,
    Thank you for your question.
From your original post, do you mean the pop account of the user can send emails successfully but the Exchange account of the user failed to send external emails? If there are any misunderstanding, please correct me.
Because email was sent by smart host, when we create send connector, send connector must point smart host instead of MX record.
Configuring smart host could refer to the following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc779371(v=ws.10).aspx
Creating a send connector to route outbound email through a smart host by the following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj673059(v=exchg.150).aspx
We could use tool (for example: ExTRA) to analysis mail flow by the following link:

  • 451 4.4.0 primary target IP address responded with 421 4.4.2 unable to connect

    Hi,
I'm running two Exchange 2010 servers both with HUB, CAS and Mailbox. They are setup with one DAG. I also have a load balancer. Each server has the primary network adaptar and one loopback adapter for the load balancer VIP. Everything is working OK except the fact the delivery of messages.
When I fail one of the nodes, messages will start to take almost a minute to be delivered. Messages from users on the same database, using the CAS of the still functioning server.
    The message queue viewer shows:
451 4.4.0 primary target IP address responded with 421 4.4.2 unable to connect  Attempte failover to alternate host, but that did not suceed.  Either there are no aternate hosts or delivery failed to the all alternate host.
The message is still delivered after some time.
What can be the problem here?
After running a packet sniffer, I can see that Exchange 2010 will always try the same HT server (the other server that failed) and only after some timeout it will try the local HT. As far as I know, it should try the local server first when a mailbox and a HT share the same server. But it is not doing that.

What is your Queue Glitch Retry Interval?

  • 451 4.4.0 Primary target IP address responded with:"454 4.7.0 Temporary authentication failure"

I have this error on both my hub transport servers. I cannot get the communication between them.
This is also accompanied by the event ID 2017 in the application log. Description
Outbound authentication failed with error TargetUnknown for Send connector Intra-Organization SMTP Send Connector. The authentication mechanism is ExchangeAuth. The target is SMTPSVC/<servername.FQDN>.
I have already the following http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb217800.aspx
It only tells me how to fix a send connector that i created. The connectors mentioned above is the ones that exchange creates when trying to send between sites.
Has anyone else got this problem if so how did you resolve it?

Had the same issue and messages were stuck in the queue with error in this thread along with 1035 smtprecieve errors.
    Tried below steps:
    1. recycle of transport services, hub servers. still same issue
    2. Followed KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979174/en-us and found time was correct on DC, exchange, no duplicate SPN etc
    3. Later ran a wireshark/netmon trace on a HUB transport server where queues were building and found Kerberos skew errors pointing to time sync issue. (please note time was correct though on DC & exchange)
    krb5krb_AP_ERR_skew >>
which points to kerberos failures due to time sync issues
    Audit logs had below failures:
    Failure Reason:                      An
    Error occured during Logon.
                    Status:
    0xc000006d
                    Sub Status:
    0xc0000133
    4. Noticed that
krb5krb_AP_ERR_skew were coming to Hub when communicating with some DC other than DC's configured on Hub server. These DC's were DR servers running on Hyper-v.
    5. Found that these DR DC's listed as krb skew error were off more than 5 minutes. We disabled time synchronization on hyper-v host and corrected DC's running on VM to
sync time with PDC server. This fixed the issue and mail started flushing.
So, wanted to point out that please double check your time sync for this issue and best to run wireshark to find any clues.
    Regards.

  • Exchange 2010/2013 coexistance mailflow issues: 421 4.4.2 socket error.

    So I am in Exchange 2010 SP3 / Exchange 2013 SP1 co-existence.
I can send from a test 2013 user to external and 2010 users internally on the domain. But I cannot send to the 2013 test user. I get:
451 4.4.0 Primary target IP address responded with: "421 4.4.2 Connection dropped due to SocketError." Attempted to failover to alternate host, but that did not succeed. Either there are no alternate hosts, or delivery failed to all alternate
    hosts.
I've been looking at this for example:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979175
But no matter where on the 2013 receive connectors I add Exchange Server Authentication, it still doesnt work.
Theres so much stuff on this error message, but everyhing I find seems to be 2003 / 2010 or other coexistance which is different to my environment.

Hi guys, thanks for the responses, please keep in mind I am not a specialist Exchange Admin, I'm a IT jack of all trades.

  • Can a GSS respond with a different IP if a target server is down?

This is my first GSS and I have read the Cisco Administration guide so please take pity on me.
I don't have any CRA or VIP devices on my network , so is it possible to have the GSS return one IP address if the target device is up and another IP address if the target device is down?
For instance I would like the following scenario to work:
    1. The user tries to open 'payroll.mydomain.com' (10.0.0.10) which is located in Houston.
    2. payroll.mydomain.com is an alias for a server called 'ora01.mydomain.com'
    3. The Houston servers are down due to hurricane.
    4. Instead of responding with 10.0.0.10 it returns 10.0.10.10 which is the IP address for 'ora02.mydomain.com'
Can this be accomplished without CRA or SLB?

    Hi Brain,
You can achieve this using GSS.
Define Answers - 10.0.0.10 and 10.0.10.10 in different answer group.
    In the DNS rule wizard
Define the balance clause 1 to use the 1st answer group server at Houston site (10.0.0.10)
define the second balance clause to use the the second answer group (10.0.0.10).
The GSS will respond with second clause answer group when the 1st clause is not available i.e when the answers(servers) defined in answer group is offline.

I recently updated my primary email address associated with my Apple ID account.
Now when I go to App store on my iPad it still tries to login to the App store using the old email address I had associated with the account, and naturally my password doesn't work. I can't figure out how to tell my iPad to login using the updated email address.
So in effect I'm locked out of the app store and I currently have 26 updates waiting.
I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting my IPad to iCloud with no luck.. However I cloud happens to show the correct/updated email address.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?
    Thanks

Did you change the email for the Apple ID or did you create a new Apple ID? A new Apple ID cannot be used with content that was bought using a different Apple ID.

You can create an alias @icloud.com email address within your current account that will receive email in your current iCloud inbox (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a490a).  (@me.com addresses are no longer available as new addresses.)  Just be aware that you cannot use an alias address later to create a new iCloud account or move it to a different account.
Also, even if you created a new iCloud account with a new ID, your existing purchases would not be lost.  They are permanently tied to the original ID you used to purchase them.  You can also continue to use the existing ID for the iTunes store; it does not need to be the same as the ID you use for iCloud.

  • HT5621 how can I delete a primary e-mail addresse and replace it with a excisting Apple ID?

How can I delete a primary e-mail address and replace it with a excisting Apple ID?

An email address can only be used one account at a time, so if you want to replace it with an email address that is currently being used on another account then you will need to remove it from that account first before trying to put it on that account. You should be able to change the email address either by logging into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option, or via http://appleid.apple.com

  • How do I change my primary @me address associated with my Apple ID.

To be clear, I know how to change my Apple ID, but I don't know how to change the primary @me address associated with it.  I have seen many people reply about setting up aliases through icloud as well responses that continue to explain how to change your Apple ID.  I do not want to change my Apple ID.  I want to change the @me email address associated with it.

See the FAQ - http://support.apple.com/kb/HE37 cannot be done for those special cases of @mac.com and @me.com addresses.  You can add a secondary address to the AppleID if you no longer use or receive mail at the primary, but those primary cannot be altered.

I no longer have the e-mail address associated with an Apple ID.  I do not know the password for that account, nor are the security questions correct (e.g. it asked my birth date, but, when I listed it, I was told it was not correct).  I have no way to get into the program, to correct an information.  How do I delete this account and start anew?

If you still have access to your old email address, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email account and verify it.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  You can now go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your correct iCloud ID and password.
If you don't have access to your old email address, you will have to contact Apple to have them reset the password so you can disable Find My iPhone and sign into your iCloud account.  You can either go to https://expresslane.apple.com, select "More Products and Services", then "Apple ID", then  on the next page select "Other Apple ID Topics", then "Lost or forgotten Apple ID password" and click "Continue"; or you can contact Apple Support (http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/).
