Primavera 8 Windows Server Only?

Hard to find info, but the Primavera Release 8 page http://www.oracle.com/us/products/applications/primavera/057972.html has links to the "platform requirements" document. Unlike the usual tested configurations document, this document only indicates Windows Server as being a server platform. There is one mention of Solaris being able to run the database, but that is it. No Linux, no app server listings.
Also, when you go to the edelivery site, there is no Primavera 8 download for Solaris Sparc, or Linux - only Windows 64bit.
Strangely, the database server support mentioned in the platform requirements document is Oracle 10.2, which seems very strange given this is in extended support and Primavera 7 supported Oracle 11.1??

You have mentioned about Oracle's Primavera Portfolio Management Release 8.0.
Did you meant Oracle Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management Release 8? That is yet to be released and made available on edelivery.oracle.com.

• I am trying to remote into a Windows Server 2003 from a Windows 7 machine and having issues

I am trying to remote into a Windows Server 2003 from a Windows 7 machine.  It says "The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections".
My first stop in trying to solve this problem was here:
howtogeek.com
And it says:

This problem happens because Windows only allows two remote terminal services connections when you are in administrative mode, and you’ve either got two people already on that server, or more likely, you’ve got a disconnected session that still thinks
it is active.
The problem with this error is that you have to actually get on the server console to fix the problem if the server isn’t in a domain. (If you are in a domain, then just open Terminal Services Manager and log off or disconnect the sessions)

So it seems to suggest that all I have to do really is to run the  Terminal Services Manager but I cannot find it.
This web site from mssqltips.com (click here) says all I need to do is first execute "mstsc /
admin" from the command line.  But, when I do that, I get a message when I try to remote to the server, that says this: "To log on to this remote console session, you must have administrative permissions on this computer".
So, what now?  What do you suggest?

Hi Bobby,
Yes, it is by design. By default, Windows Server only accepts two concurrent administrative sessions (Administrative Mode). It means that only two administrators can work on the server at
the same time.
If you would like more concurrent sessions, you need to purchase RDS CALs, install Terminal Services related server roles with proper configurations on the server.

• Best Practice - Leopard Server and a Windows Server/Application

Our family owns an accounting practice in Northern California. We all use MacBook Pros running Leopard as our client machines.
Our customers all use QuickBooks for Windows for their accounting software. We currently host and store our customer's QuickBooks company files on a Windows 2003 SBS Server. Our staff connects to the Windows Server to launch QuickBooks and perform our accounting services. We do not use any of the features of the Windows Server besides the ability to log in with multiple user sessions to launch QuickBooks from both internal and remote office locations.
Since we all use MacBook Pros, we'd like to use Leopard Server and implement mail, calendaring, wikis, etc. My dilemma is figuring out if this is technically possible because we need to continue to log into a Windows PC, Server, etc with multiple staff's sessions to perform our accounting services with QuickBooks for Windows.
Can someone suggest a way we can do this? I'm not very technical since I am an accountant! We're hoping this can be done somehow!
Thanks for any suggestion and assistance!
John

We also have Quickbooks as our legacy Windows app.
Quickbooks files for several companies are stored on our Mac OS X Server, which is accessed by a Windows 2003 Server.
I considered using Parallels or VMware, but the administrative overhead seam excessive. (One installation of Windows is too many). Windows Terminal Services seamed the best fit. Additional client access licenses were required from Microsoft as Windows Server only comes with two administrative RDP licenses.
Our staff and staff from accounting and tax consulting firms connect to Quickbooks on the Windows server via RDP. Internally, we have a couple of diskless thin clients, and iMacs with RDP software installed. Externally, both Windows and Mac OS X clients connect to our 10.5 server IPSec VPN, and then to the Windows server, again via RDP.
Performance is acceptable, as here in Australia we now have ADSL service with 1-2Mbps upstream. On my 23" display (Mac OS X 10.5), situated 1200miles away, a RDP connection at 1280x1024 works seamlessly.
On the Mac Server side, we have recently upgraded to Leopard Server, and thus haven't implmented all the fabulous new features such as calendar sharing and wikis, but we are using network spotlight, and of course the Mail server. Additionally, we have a Fujitsu SnapScan which scans documents that are then automatically OCR'd, and made available by network spotlight. All very cool.
Further work to be undertaken;
- Have the Windows server logins authenticate with our Mac OS X Open Directory. Currently account credentials are duplicated.
- Implement public key cryptography for the VPN, so that we can revoke individual client VPN installations
- Implement two factor authentication (probably CryptoCard)
- Batten down the permissions on the Windows server. The default Quickbooks installation required an unacceptable level of user rights.

• Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials will only recognize 1 USB drive at a time in primordial pool

I have a new install of Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials. I added 2 identical 2TB Seagate Expansion USB drives. Initially they had a volume on them, so I deleted the volume in order for them to be added to the primordial pool and storage spaces,
etc. They both show up fine in Disk Management, but only 1 of them at a time will show up in the primordial pool. I have tested moving them to different USB ports, trying only 1 disk at a time to ensure that both are good, rebooted, attached them via
a USB hub... but nothing works. In my most recent test I plugged in only one and did a rescan. I see it as Disk 1 in both Disk Management and Primordial pool. Then I added the second drive and did a rescan, it showed up as Disk 2 in Disk Management
and when I did a refresh in storage spaces, I can see that it changed to only see disk 2 in the primordial pool. What can be causing this?

To use USB disks, each disk must be plugged into a differs USB controller. A hub will obviously be on one controller, so that won't work. But many computers have only one or two controllers on the motherboard and then use port multipliers (basically internal
hubs) to support more ports. So you have to know your motherboard and which ports are on which controllers. And again, only one drive per controller.

• How to configure ipsec policy on windows server 2008 r2 to permit local machine only access to gateway, one other server and it's local ip?

I have applied IPsec policy on local machine(ip address:10.82.138.76) with windows server 2008 ent r2 installed, only permit local machine to comunicate with itself, one other server(ip address:10.82.138.77) and the gateway device(ip address:10.82.138.1).After
i asigned this policy,i can ping the gateway (ip address:10.82.138.1),and the other server(ip address:10.82.138.77),but i can't ping local machine itself(ip address:10.82.138.76),could anybody tell me why and how to solve this problem? When i applied the same
policy to windows server 2003 ent,i can ping the local machine ip address.

Hi,
Thanks for your post.
First, try to ping the loopback address 127.0.0.1. If the loopback test succeeds but you cannot ping the local IP address, please post the unedited
ipconfig /all and route print of the problematic computer.
For test purpose, you may refer to the following lab step by step guide to deployment Tunnel Mode IPsec. Hope it helps.

• JNLP prompted to Save (only) in Windows Server 2003 SP1 over https

In Windows Server 2003 when using https to download the jnlp and jars, IE 6.0 prompts to Save the jnlp file. It does not give the option to open it straight from IE..
The IE settings are:
Do not save encrypted files to disk - off/unchecked
Empty Temp Internet Files when browser is closed - off/unchecked
Using Apache and Tomcat5 with the Mime type set correctly to application/x-java-jnlp-file.
When using http, the jnlp launches web start just fine.
When using https on WinXP and Win2000, the jnlp launches just fine.
It seems to be a Win2003Svr/IE security check that will not allow the jnlp to be launched directly.
There have been a few mentions of this on the web, but no solutions have been posted that I could find.
I am using jre 1.4.2_06. I tried 1.4.2_08 because that WebStart security bug was fixed, but the same issue was occurring. It seems like IE is doing it.
It doesn't get to WebStart until after saving the file and then double clicking it.
I have tried most of the IE settings to see if they helped, but to no avail...

Hello.
I'm glad someone brought this problem up.
We have about 1000 external customers using webstart for approx. 3 years with runtimes
varying from 1.4.1_XX to 1.5.0_XX. We have the same problem with some customers being prompted by a dialog and what to do with the JNLP file. When these customers try a testing link to a webstart app over HTTP they are not prompted. Only when using our business app. over HTTPS and with Internet Explorer. This behavior does not occur only in Win server 2003 but in several
OS from Windows 2000 , XP Home/Pro SP1 SP2 , Citrix Metframe ..you name it. We have known this for years now and not being able to do something about it since we can't reproduce it. All I know for sure is that IE is behind it all and it's not surprising since it is a part of the OS. When using other browsers like Mozilla or FireFox, it works fine.
The customers are now forced to save the JNLP file and launch the app that way. Not acceptable
Is there some registry change that someone knows of to correct this problem.
Regards
Johan

• Ok, taking the leap. Tossing out all Windows servers and going with Lion Server only!

Help! We are retiring our Windows 2000 server (finally) and going with Lion Server only. We are transitioning from Windows to Mac and have 30 PC's running XP and a few scattered Windows 7 PC's (Lab). We have teachers and staff using Mac computers. Can I authenticate my windows pc's to Lion server?

1. We are running lion on the old Xservs because we had them. Thought they still would be good file servers. And we thought Lion would work on them but know that mountain lion will not
2. We have looked up some errors and they have to do with spotlight not getting index finnished with all the adobe files in folders, subfolders and subsubfolders. The vnode errors have something to do with lots ofmopen files but we do not know why. Maybe all these many directiries of files in deep hierarchy of adobe CS which the department does shared work directly on the server is issue. We have tried to get them tomuse as archive only but they do not habe a clue how to do shared work on separate clients. This deparment is not very savy in use but imtense Adobe CS users and my concern is these old file servers cannot take this kind of use.?
Imposted the logs because i have no clue to why they keep filling up (the vnodes).

• Ugent! W520 with windows server 2012 R2, USB 3.0 only have usb 2.0 speed

hello!

now i found usb 3.0 port only have usb 2.0 speed!
did anyone have a solution for this problem or where i can get the lastest drive?
here are "????"s in my device manager:
really Thanks

I have the same configuration as you.
I found this thread trying to locate the drivers for the same 3 devices shown in your device manager screenshot.
My USB 3.0 however seems to go at the proper speed. How are you checking the speed ?

• Sqr's quit running - only solution is reboot of windows server

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this problem. Our SQR's, crystals, NVisions randomly quit running and the only solution is to reboot the windows server. We are pt 8.49.05, and fins 9.0. Stopping/starting apps, prcs servers do not fix the problem. Nor, does clearing cache. Any suggestions?

I think we found the problem. We have processes to print and reprint invoices. When the invoices are done, they are ftp'd to another server. the ftp.txt file that houses the ftp commands, did not have the bye command in it and therefore never returned to the .bat file that kicked it off. Over the course of a few days, we would end up with several cmd.exe and ftp.exe and of course the old' acrord32.exe processes that did not get killed. We moved the bye command into the .txt file, and now all we have to do is find a way to kill that acrord32.exe cleanly after invoices are reprinted. Thank you all for your suggestions.

• Windows Server 2008 R2 only detect USB storage drives if I restart the system

Hi, I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 with an weird behaviour. I cannot connect any USB drive (not USB external hard disk neither pendrives). Windows device manager detects the device as
Mass Storage Device, but with a yellow exclamation sign. The exact error code is:
The device cannot start.
However, if I restart the machine keeping the USB disk plugged, the hard disk (or pendrive) is correctly detected and usable.
I've tried:
Update mass storage driver.
Review HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\usbstor "Start"
and is 3 (I think is right)
I've tried with different usb hard disks that are working in other PCs.
I've tried with large (>1TB) disks and small (8GB) pendrives.
I've tried all available USB ports, front and back, with same behaviour.
Always I get a yellow exclamation  (Device cannot start) and if I restart the computer the device is working perfectly.
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance
Edit: Here is the log of connecting a Kingstone USB 8GB pendrive

I tried, but windows says that the best driver is alredy installed.
Now I've just tried to delete (uninstall) absolutly all devices under Universal Serial Bus Controller
(host controllers, root hubs, etc) into Device Manager, and then I've click on
Scan for hardware changes to force reinstall of all USB drivers. After that I've connected my USB external hard disk and has been correctly recognized and its working. However I don't know if when I'll restar the server and connect a new one usb device
it will continue working or not. I'll try later, because this is a production server.
I've tried for drivers into HP site to update or reinstall, but there isn't any driver for motherboard or USB controller. It's an HP ML350 G6.

• IDCS2: Can only open an .indd Ready Only from smb share on Windows Server

Is there any way to save an open .indd document back to a smb share on a Windows server? I know the preferred Abobe method is to drag the file from the server to the desktop, edit it there, then close InDesign and drag the file back to the server. I first encountered this problem when I moved the shared publishing folder from an NT 4 server to 2003 Server which didn't support afp shares. As long as I kept my OS X Macs from updating past 10.4.0, I could still save back to the Samba share on the Windows sever.
Recently, I moved everything again to a Windows 2008 Active Directory domain server. After fixed the whole "digitally sign communications' security settings problem so my Macs could actually connect, I found I could no longer automount server volume by dragging the into Logon Items.
Letting my G5 Macs update to OS 10.4.11 fixed that, but now I can't save back to the server from inside InDesign again. I'm dealing with students (and instructors) and presenting them with a convoluted procedure for opening and saving files and saying blame it on Apple/Microsoft/Adobe doesn't fly too well. It's been about three years, please tell me there is a fix or a better workaround.

-36 is a bit generic, but usually means the Windows® machine is denying because of bad Password. Have you tried deleting that particular reference/share in Keychain Access and redoing it?

• Can't browse a Windows Server share by name, but only by IP.

Hello all,
I have one babbling problem.  I have three servers, 01, 02, and 03.  01 and 02 are running Windows Server 2008 R2 and both are physical servers.  H001 is running Windows 2012 with a Virtual Windows 2008 R2 server (Hyper-V) called 03.
01 is setup as the Active Directory, DNS, Domain Controller, and a few other server roles.  02 replicates 01 and 03 has a few programs on it.
The problem I am having is that when I log in (Domain or non-Domain) Mapped drivers to 01 and 02 are populated automatically, but 03 can’t be found.  If I ping the name, 03 it tells me that 03 is not there.  However, if I ping 03’s ip address,
I can see it. I can even do a tracert.  I can do a remote desktop to 01 and 02 using the network names but with 03 I have use the ip address.
Trying to do a Remote Desktop connection with the server name, 03 gives me the error, "The connection cannot be completed because the remote computer that was reached is not the one you specified.  This could be caused by an outdated entry in the
DNS cache.  Try using the IP address of the computer instead of the name."
I can use the IP address to connect but I really require to use the name.
If I login to the Domain, 03 takes up to 60 minutes to appear. I am then able to access shared resources with the name and not the ip.
I searched the Internet for a solution, but couldn’t find anything that worked.  Any ideas you have, please let me know.
Thanks,
Ernie

Hi Ernie,
Thanks for clarifying. I missed that H001 was the name of your Hyper-V server.
In order for 03 to register its name in DNS, first of all the checkbox to "register this connection's addresses in DNS" must be enabled on the network interface. By default it is enabled, so it probably is enabled unless you somehow disabled it.
In order to accomplish the DNS registration (adding it's host name and IP address to the domain) it sends an SOA query to the primary DNS server configured on its network interface (it does this on all network interfaces if there are multiple). The SOA query
basically asks the question: What DNS server is authoritative for my domain? In other words, where do I need to send this information?
Note: If the computer is a DHCP client, and DHCP is configured to register records on behalf of clients, then the DHCP server issues the SOA query.
Below is an example of how to issue an SOA query using nslookup. The computer will add its own domain instead of contoso.com.
C:\> nslookup -q=soa contoso.com
Server:  ipam1.contoso.com
Address:  192.168.0.3
Non-authoritative answer:
contoso.com
            primary name server = dc1.contoso.com
            responsible mail addr = hostmaster.contoso.com
            serial  = 77
            refresh = 900 (15 mins)
            retry   = 600 (10 mins)
            expire  = 86400 (1 day)
            default TTL = 3600 (1 hour)
dc1.contoso.com internet address = 192.168.0.1
dc1.contoso.com AAAA IPv6 address = 21da:d3:0:2f3b:ffff:ffff:ffff:ffff
The query above tells you a couple things:
1. The DNS server that the SOA query is sent to is 192.168.0.3 (aka ipam1.contoso.com). That's because 192.168.0.3 is the primary DNS server configured on this computer's network adapter.
2. The authoritative DNS server for contoso.com is 192.168.0.1 (aka dc1.contoso.com).
If I configure an IP address on ipam1.contoso.com - say I change it from 192.168.0.3 to 192.168.0.4, the computer will ask it's DNS server where to send the update, it will find out that the update needs to be sent to 192.168.0.1, and it will send a request
to the DNS server at 192.168.0.1 to change the host (A) record from .3 to .4.
If no SOA record is returned when the query is sent, perhaps because the computer has no domain or belongs to a domain that is hosted somewhere else, then registration of the host name won't happen.
Registration also won't happen if the computer (03) can't reach the authoritative DNS server (01).
In your VM "03" open up a command prompt and issue the nslookup shown above, using your domain instead of contoso.com. Verify that an authoritative server is returned and that it is correct, and that you can get to 01 from 03.

• Exchange 2003 with Windows Server 2012 DC's only. Migrate to Exchange 2010.

I have the following situation:
An Exchange 2003 SP2 server in an 2003 FFL and DFL domain with 2 Windows Server 2012 DC's. There are no Windows Server 2003 DC's anymore. Exchange 2003 is still functioning properly, but the eventlog is showing me some errors about LDAP which is unable to
find an old 2003 DC.
I know this is not supported, so we want to migrate to Exchange 2010 as soon as possible.
What is the best way to do this? Will coexsitence still work? Do I have to add an 2003 DC's again?
Please advice. Thank's in advance!

Oh thank GOD I found this thread!

• Unable to open Office files on SharePoint 2010 sites on Windows Server 2008 R2

Setup: Windows SharePoint Server 2010 sp1 on Windows Server 2008 R2 (hosted on VMWare VSphere ESXi 5.1)
Secured using Domain SSL from GlobalSign.
Client OS: Windows 7 Professional 32bit & Windows XP SP3 32 bit
Browsers: IE10, IE9,IE8
Office: Office 2010, Office 2010 sp2 (both 32bit), Office 2007
Problem Description: Only recently, users started having issues with opening Office files (Word, Excel) on SharePoint sites. When you click on an Office file e.g. Word Document, it comes up with the option to select "Ready only" or "Edit"
and choosing either options and re-entering the login credentials results in the
application hanging. If you leave it for a while (about 5 minutes) sometimes the file opens and other times it gives the error "Could not open https://portal.com/XXX/XXX/Document.docx". Even when it opens, it's extremely
sluggish and can't do anything other than end it via Task Manager. Same with excel files.
This happens to all the users all different OS and browsers.
On XP Pro SP3 w/ IE8, when you click on the file, the login prompt keeps popping back up repeatedly and if you click cancel, the file loads up anyway but no way of saving back onto the SharePoint site.
IMPORTANT: One exception is when logged in as a Site Collection Administrator, it
works like a dream bizarrely!!!! Opens, Edits and saves back fine on the SharePoint site.
Have tried following:
1. Repaired Office 2010 Pro; Uninstalled/Re-installed Office 2010 Pro
2. Reset Browser, unticked automatically detect proxy settings.
3. Emptied OfficeOfflineCache on Client
4. Removed WebDAV from the SharePoint server
5. Added Antivirus folder exclusion (We use SEP 11) on the SharePoint Server
Note: PDF files opens fine for all users.
I would immensely appreciate if anybody has got any advice/pointers/suggestions. Desperately out of ideas at the moment.
regards,
Compter Sez No!

Hi,
According to your description, When you try to open a Microsoft Office document from a SharePoint 2010 site in a client application, the document opens slowly and you are prompted to enter your credentials multiple times.
This issue may be because of SharePoint Web Front End (WFE) server(s) has Antivirus software installed and the exceptions are not set correctly.
I recommend to remove the antivirus software or set the correct permissions for the antivirus software to resolve the issue.
To configure the antivirus exceptions, please follow the guidelines in the below articles:
KB943620:
Folders to exclude when you perform a file-level antivirus scan on a server operating system.
KB952167:
Certain folders may have to be excluded from antivirus scanning when you use a file-level antivirus program in SharePoint.
KB943556:
Recommended file and folder exclusions for Microsoft Forefront Client Security or Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010.
Best regards.
Thanks
