Primavera Expedition Professional 10.0

This is a printing issue. We have a client that is running Primavera Expedition 10.0 on Sever 2003 with about 5 Win XP workstations setup on a domain. Anyway this is my issue. We run Internet Explorer 6.0 for Primavera due to the incompatibility issues. We have one workstation running XP Pro SP3, the hardware is good, and however we cannot print anything from within Primavera :EXAMPLE: If you are in a Project File and no matter what you try to print, it will not even send the job to the printer. A popup is displayed that says "Loading" as if it is sending the info, but nothing happens. No Errors, No failed print jobs, nothing in eventvwr. We are able to print from any other application with no problems. We can also print through Internet Explorer as well. When you hit the Print Report button, Print Preview button or anything within Primavera we get nothing.
Printer drivers are correct.
JAVA version: JAVA 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_07 (all the other workstations that can print are running this version.)

Oracle Primavera P6 Professional Attached Text Linked Directly to An Activity Delete Problem

Hi All,
We have a strange situation:
In one instance of Oracle Primavera P6 Professional (8) we have Attached Text which is Linked Directly (i.e. dependent) to an Activity. I am unsure how this was achieved, because in another instance of Oracle Primavera P6 Professional (8) we have Attached Text which is NOT Linked Directly (i.e. independent) to an Activity; i.e. the situation is not duplicated in all instances of Oracle Primavera P6 Professional (8). Both instances are standalone on separate PCs.
The problem is when we want to Delete attached text which no longer applies (e.g. last month it was valid, but this month, we no longer want to display the attached text); in the first instance, when we select the attached text and click on the DELETE key, we get a prompt to delete the "linked" activity! However we do NOT want to delete the activity, we only want to delete the attached text. In the second instance we have no such problem and we can deleted the attached text as desired.
For the first instance we have a workaround which is to double click the attached text and remove the text, so all that remains is a blank attached text "box", then saving the layout, but this is not ideal/desired; we want to delete the attached text.
Does anyone have any ideas?
What should we be looking at with regards to Settings/Options, etc.

Small clarification on Step **6) Oracle Home Directory, ...a) Resize the Root Partition**
Ubuntu 11.10 has Gparted available as a Ubuntu software download, DONT use that while trying the above step, instead download the ISO file from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gparted/files/gparted-live-stable/ gparted-live-0.12.0-5.iso (124.6 MB)
Burn that ISO file on a Blank DVD, reboot the Ubuntu , during startup select Boot from DVD Option if not already selected. this will take to Boot Menu Options of Gparted Live then select the first menu option, and this allows to do further action such as Re-sizing .
and once you have chosen and executed step a) . do NOT run step b) also that is "Setup External Storage"
I hope this minor clarification can avoid some confusion

i want to install primavera p6 professional R8.2 in my machine after selecting standalone option i am getting following error.
"Primavera p6 professional R8.2 setup wizard ended prematurely because of an error.your system has not been modified"

Hi,
If the typical option is allowing the application to install, then i'd suggest just adding the database side of it manually.
The client application for PPM and EPPM in P6r8.2 and 8.3 is the same application (P6 Professional) and is 'smart' enough to enable/disable features depending on if it detects a PPM or EPPM database.
There should be an Oracle XE installation file in the download that you can install (personally I prefer SQL Server Express but you will need to enable Named Pipes and TCP/IP after it is installed).
I would recommend installing one of these, creating the database manually and then configure the install you have that is pointing to your EPPM database to also point to the PPM database you create after installing OracleXE/SQL Server Express.

Primavera P6 Professional command line parameters

Does anyone can confirm if P6 Professional accepts command line parameters?
I'm trying to call it from another application and feed it with an xml file which is in P6 Project format... is this possible?

You can import XER files from the command line but according to the documentation this is the only import type supported.

Primavera P6 Professional Project Management Release 7 with My SQL

We are looking to install Primavera P6 Release 7 with My SQL. Is there any documentations for this installation? I have looked at the documentation from the link below but could not find any info on My SQL. Thank you.

MySQL is not officially supported so I doubt you will find any documentation on this.

Installation of PCM 11.1

We have been a 2-4 seat user of Primavera Expedition/Professional/CM since Expedition v3.0 in 1990 and, due to the economy, have not had use for it over the past couple years. We have recently been awarded a small municipal project and would like to put PCM 11.1 back to use on our original, separate old but believed to be fully functional, web / database servers running windows 2000, with intentions to upgrade with an improved economy.
Having to install from scratch, aftrer installing Sybase ASA on the Database server along with Infomaker 10.5 we then performed the Web server installation as identified in installation manuals. Upon completion we received the WARNING "The PopulateGroups Utility Failed. Rerun this utility after setup is finished."
After spending the last several days trying to locate information on the warning and trying different installation sequences without success, is there anyone out there (old Primavera Support Personnel, IT or otherwise) that can help walk us thru the installation, fill in the blanks or have some suggestions. Installation Manuals were never much help but, back in the day, the Primavera Support made up for that.
Both servers running windows 2000 sp4, IE6 (no changes since last used for EXPPro three years ago except programs were removed).
Our last support came from Primavera and are in no position to pay the unreasonable fees Oracle required to get what would amount to merely advice on software and hardware upgrades, which will require further time and money, before getting back to operational.

Are the database server and the web/app server on the same machine?
This message could mean that the webserver can't make a connection to the database server. Make sure that you can connect to the database via an odbc connection from the webserver.
If that connects, try delelting the rows in the GROUP_INFO table in the EXPADMIN database. The POPULATEGROUPS utility creates records in that table and there was an issue with that utility not updating records. Deleting the records and rerunning POPULATEGROUPS used to resolve the problem

P6 R8.2 Professional login problem - new install

I have been beating my brains out trying to set up P6 Professional standalone on a client laptop running 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium. It has 8GB RAM and 100s of GB of free disk. The media packs have been downloaded from edelivery and match the ones I have on file in the office

The instance of XE is working fine. I can login as system and see the tablespaces and the P6 users. In fact I have even manually deleted all the P6 bits and reinstalled via dbsetup to see if that made any difference, but it didn't. We have downloaded the media pack again and reinstalled with a fresh copy but that made no difference either. There is no KB article that I can find that references the error code, and I have never seen this problem before - can anyone offer any suggestions?
I am also trying t o raise this as an SR with Oracle but they are currently claiming our CSI number prevents us raising technical SRs, which is manifestly untrue - have escalated this to the partner business centre and our partner manager :-(

Absolutely correct!
Oracle support supplied me with a SQL monitor utility and it showed that the program had issued an SQL command like this:
select session_id from usession where hostname = 'Terence O'Brien@TERENCEOBRIEN' and ...
and so the SQL parser treats the apostrophe in the user's name as the end of the string, then gets confused.
He then created a new user account and all now works. I did try simply renaming his account to eliminate the apostrophe, but that did not change the name of his user folder, which is I think the place from where P6 is grabbing the identity.
If you experienced this a while ago it sounds like they should know about it but have not done anything about it either :-(

Java error on P6 Professional v8.2.2.8 TimeScale Logic Diagram

I just recently upgraded a test environment to the latest P6 Professional release 8.2.2 (build #:8206). Now the Timescale Logic Diagram get a java error, see below. Of course, the P6 web tool and database have been upgraded to 8.2.2.8. They seems to be working fine. This Timescale diagram use to work, now it is broken. I was wondering what is up?
In the error is mentioned the ViewProb table not be available. This table does exist in admuser and is full or rows. If the solution is to upgrade to java 1.7, then I am kind of screwed since that is not an option were I work.

I fixed this problem by purging Primavera Professional P6 SP1 off laptop computer and re-installing SP2 cleanly. When I mean purge, I mean uninstall using the Window's system admin panel, and remove any remnants from directories used by Primavera. I also cleaning out my temporary files folder and rebooted my computer before installing SP2 to make sure no services were running from SP1.
Timescale logic diagram seems to be working.
On other thing that may or may not be related: I also remove all Oracle client installs and re-installed a single clean 32bit Oracle client. I do not think Primavera uses Oracle's client, but I did this before I installed Primavera P6 Professional SP2.

New to Primavera support

I am new to Primavera support and need to get information concerning version levels and upgrade paths. Our company uses Primavera Expedition V10 and P3, V3. What are the current version levels of these products and what is the upgrade path to the current version. We have a current support contract on these products. Thanks.

For Expediton, I think you can upgrade to Primavera Contract Management 12.1 or 13.0. For P3, you would have to move to P6 Project Management.

P6 Professional R8.2 unable to connect to database

Hi,
I just installed Primavera P6 Professional R8.2 on Windows XP SP3. Everything went fine during the installation.
However, when i first started the application and started logging in, i got the error message *"Unable to connect to database. Would you like to configure database connection now?"*. I have tried the following option but it still does not work:
1. Stop Database ---> OracleServiceXE was stopped successfully
2. Start Database ---> OracleServiceXE was started successfully
3. Configure database with user "pubuser" or "privuser" ---> i got error message *"Bad public user name or password. ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied;"*
Could you please advise how to resolve this problem?

I had also similar problem for 8.3.
My web client is working fine.
I am able to connect to database with user pubuser and password.
But while configuring P6 Professional with pubuser, i am getting same above error *" Bad public user name or password. ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified"*
Please help me also to resolve this issue.
