Prime Infrastructure 2.0 disk requirements

The installation guide for Prime 2.0 says it requires 200 MB/s of disk throughput.  Does this mean 200 MB/s sustained IO?
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/2.0/quickstart/guide/cpi_qsg.html#wp69178

Hi Graham,
What settings do you have checked when you navigate to here?
Operate > Alarms & Events > Email Notification
Also you can define within your network what the level of alarming should be through navigation to here:
Administration > System Settings > Severity Configuration
It doesn't take much to become overburdened by alarms from Prime, I set only a couple of parameters as critical for switch and router state, and set to receive emails from those at this time.

Brandon

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.x Server requirements & Operating System

    Dear Friends

    Compliance Management - 500 Device License "L-PI-1.1-CM-500"
What really confused me that i tried to search server cabalitity for my requirments & Operating system and couldn't find it ...... what i need your help for is the following:
    1) What is the server requirments ???
    2) What is operating system (windows 2008 or VMWare VMware ESX/ESXi Version 4.1 or 5.0)
    3) Is their any deticated applicance from Cisco ??

    Server and Client Requirements
For information on server and client requirements for the system and browser, see Chapter 2 of Installing and Migrating to Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2 at:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.2/install/guide/
    install.html
To summarize the options it describes, you can run the LMS product on any number of platforms - a dedicated Cisco hardware appliance, a physical server of your own with Windows or Solaris OS, a VMware server with a Windows server OS guest, or a "soft appliance". The soft appliance is package built with the underlying guest OS (a customized RHEL distribution with Cisco's Application Development Environment OS (ADE-OS)) built-in.
Once you have installed LMS 4.2, you should patch - first to 4.2.2 and then to the current 4,2,3. then run the software update feature to bring all package components up to date.
Regarding licensing, there is a Cisco Prime Infrastructure Ordering and Licensing Guide here.
When you order the licenses for PI 1.2 (new customer), you order the base product and then Lifecycle licenses (required for either PI 1.2 Lifecycle and LMS installations - which option is a customer choice) and, optionally, Compliance and Assurance licenses. An upgrade order for an existing LMS customer will include the base PI 1.2 with Lifecycle licenses as well as LMS in a single SKU as noted in tables 4 and 5 of the Ordering Guide.

  • Cisco Prime infrastructure 2.0 cpu requirement

    Hi,
i'm reading the doc at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/2.0/quickstart/guide/cpi_qsg.html#wp46865
and I'm searching for the CPU requirement for a Standard installation. From table 2 in this document, I will need 16 virtual CPUS but there is no frequency mentioned. Does someone know what is the minimum CPU frequency to run PI 2.0 correctly?
    Thanks
    Theo

The number of vCPU's depends on your ESXi host, either your limited to 8 or you will have 16, 32, etc.  The vCPU amount is defined on the VM or PI2.0 and you can change it after the VM has been installed.  PI 2.0 has an Express (4 vCPU), Standard and Pro which require 16 vCPU.  There is a custome express that uses the Express ova (4 vCPU), but you need to increase that to 8 vCPU.  Hope that helps.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Prime Infrastructure Demo License

If I apply the Demo license to a licensed Prime Infrastructure server will it enable all the features so I can test the Netflow features for the demo period?  I have never used the Netflow features and would like to test drive for a little and decide if we want to move of our current platform.
    Thank you all.

You purchase licenses to access the Prime Infrastructure features required to manage your network. Each license also controls the number of devices you can manage using those features.
You need a base license and the corresponding feature licenses (such as Assurance or Data Center licenses) to get full access to the respective Prime Infrastructure features to manage a set number of devices.
If you have installed Prime Infrastructure for the first time you may access the lifecycle and assurance features using the built-in evaluation license that is available by default. The default evaluation license is valid for 60 days for 100 devices. You can send a request to [email protected] if:
You need to extend the evaluation period
You need to increase the device count
You already have a particular feature license and need to evaluate the other feature licenses
To troubleshoot licenses, you will need to get details about the licenses that are installed on your system. Click Help > About Prime Infrastructure to access your license information. When troubleshooting licenses, it is important to remember that Prime Infrastructure has five types of licenses:
Base: Required for every Prime Infrastructure installation. The requirement stems primarily from the need to do accurate royalty accounting by knowing how many Prime Infrastructure instances have been purchased. A Base license is required for each instance of Prime Infrastructure, and is a prerequisite for all other license types.
Lifecycle: Regulates the total number of devices under Prime Infrastructure management.
Assurance: Regulates the total number of NetFlow devices under Prime Infrastructure management.
Collector: Regulates the total number of NetFlow data flows per second that Prime Infrastructure can process.
Data Center: Regulates the total number of data-center devices under Prime Infrastructure management. This license type was introduced in Prime Infrastructure version 2.2.
All five types of licenses are supplied as either evaluation or permanent licenses:
Evaluation: These licenses permit or extend access to Prime Infrastructure for a pre-set period. You can apply only one evaluation license of each type (that is, only one Lifecycle evaluation license, one Assurance evaluation license, and so on). You cannot apply an evaluation license over a permanent form of the same license.
Permanent License: These permit access to Prime Infrastructure features as specified and are not time-limited. Permanent licenses can be applied over evaluation licenses, and can also be applied incrementally (that is, you can have multiple permanent Assurance licenses, and so on).

  • Prime Infrastructure 1.4: Clear Disk Space

In order to reduce disk space usage on Prime Infrastructure I will reduce the System Data Retention period (for aggregate data) and "Background Data Collection Task" raw data  retention (for non-aggregate data).   If I now run  'ncs stop / ncs cleanup / ncs start, will this inmediately clear the disk space or does some other event clear the disk space?
    Thanks.

ncs cleanup should be able to retrieve some disk space.
You can check the details of how it works from this document here.
    -Thanks

  • Ciscoworks LMS 3.0 to Cisco Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2

In order to complete the upgrade the LMS 3.x runs over a physical server that ends with the upgrade(server its gona be retired), the think is that the Cisco Prime comes with an UCS and its gona run over a VM. The question here is the "Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.1 - Maj Upg from LMS 2.x/3.x" media could be runs as clean install, I mean with no LMS 3.x intalled  before? an the "Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2 - 1.5K Device Maj Upg Lic" could be registered with no license installed of LMS 3.x?

There are a couple of things to distinguish:
    1. The product SKU you need to order to migrate from LMS 3 to LMS 4.2.
    2. The license file that is installed on that new LMS server.
#1 is based on Cisco agreeing, usually through the partner or reseller you are working with, that you are entitled to order the upgrade SKU (vs. buy a complete new product). The upgrade SKUs are all listed in the ordering guide here.
L-PI12-1.5K-UP (note - NOT the 1.1 product description you noted in the original post) would be the SKU for a major upgrade from LMS 2.x/3.x to the current Prime Infrastructure 1.2 release at the 1500 device license level. That upgrade includes licenses for both PI 1.2 and Prime LMS 4.2. You may choose which to install - most LMS customers stick with LMS for now as PI 1.2 does not yet have full feature parity. Your managed devices should not exceed 1500 combined (in this case) but that combined number is not enforced technically by the product's license daemon.
Once you have purchased the product and have the media you can install it on any host that meets the installation prerequisites as far as OS, memory, disk etc. A clean installation of LMS does not check for or require a previous installation as far as technical checks.
#2 - Once you have installed the new LMS server (and optionally a step near the end of installation, you need to add in the license file (*.lic file). That is obtained through the Cisco licensing portal (or via the TAC if you prefer) using the Product Activation Key (PAK) received with your product.

  • WCS and LMS to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 Upgrade

    Hello,
Our customer is currently having WCS for 500 devices and LMS 3.2 for 1500 devices. We are planning to upgrade to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3.
I want to check is the upgrade procedure that we have planned is ok or we have missed something.
Phase 1: WCS to CPI 1.3 upgrade
    1. Check that WCS is at 7.0.230.0  version
    2. Export WCS database
    3. Install NCS 1.1.1.24 software
    4. Contact cisco to obtain trial license for NCS software (L-WCS-NCS1-M-K9 license).
    5. Migrate WCS license and import it in NCS software
    6. Migrate WCS data to NCS software using ncs migrate command
    7. Patch NCS software
    8. Inline upgrade to CPI 1.3 software
    9. Install proper licenses on CPI 1.3 (WCS and LMS device count)
My concern in this first phase is should I use NCS large image since our Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 software should manage 2000 devices at the end.
Or is it better not to perform inline upgrade and insted go with exporting data from NCS and then importing them to CPI 1.3 that is going to be installed separately?
Phase 2: LMS 3.2 to CPI upgrade
    1. Export LMS 3.2 database
    2. Install LMS 4.2 software
    3. Install license to LMS 4.2
    4. Restore data from LMS 3.2 to LMS 4.2
    5. Direct upgrade from LMS 4.2 to 4.2.2
    6. Export the device list with credentials from LMS 4.2.2  and import it as a Bulk Import in CPI 1.3
At the end we will have CPI 1.3 and LMS 4.2.2 software running.
Is it possible to directly upgrade from LMS 4.2 to LMS 4.2.4 and then import data to CPI 1.3 or we need to go with 4.2.2 version?

    Jelena

Are this errors going to affect our LMS 4.2 operations?
Then we have upgraded to LMS 4.2.2 and exported data and credentiales for PI import.
On PI 1.3 we have installed WCS 500 devices upgrade license and LMS 1500 upgrade license and now we are having 2000 devices lifecycle license. We have successfully restored WCS data in PI and we have imported LMS devices as bulk import. What is strange is that we have this message in prime regarding licensing:
On LMS 3.2 our customer had saved unlimited number of configuration versioning. After upgrading to LMS 4.2 we can only see last 3 configurations regardless of unlimided number of configurations in previous LMS, so my question is where can we find older configurations in LMS 4.2?
We are planning to turn unlimited versioning on CPI 1.3 now, so our customer will again have feature that they need. Do you have some experiance regarding disk space when all device configurations are stored forever?
    Thank you for your help.

  • User Name and Password for Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1

    Hi all:
I am stuck at the login page of Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1.
I have tried using the user name root and its password (when log in with root at Vsphere Client) and also the login user name "before" get into the appliance infrastructure, all cannot work.
Anybody knows what is the default username or password or any way to set the username and password for this Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 website?
    Thanks!
    tangsuan

    Hi Tangsuan,
Following is the documented procedure for password recovery..
In order to modify the GUI root user password, you will need to login to the NCS CLI
as an admin user, and enter the command
"ncs password root password <new password>" (without the quotes)
This should set the web interface root user password :
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/ncs/1.1/configuration/guide/manag.html#wp1268889
If you have lost your CLI password , try the default logging that is  ,
CLI user is admin and not root, so please try logging in as admin with
the password that was set during setup. If that does not work , you need
the install disk that came with the appliance to recover that password.
    Follow these steps:
    Recovering a Lost Admin Password
If you lose or forget the admin password for NCS appliance, follow these steps.
Step 1 Reboot the NCS appliance with the ISO DVD inserted. The Cisco Prime Network Control
    System Welcome screen appears:
    ISOLINUX 3.11 2005-09-02  Copyright (C) 1994-2005 H. Peter Anvin
Welcome to Cisco Prime Network Control System
To boot from hard disk, press <Enter>.
    Available boot options:
[1] Network Control System Installation (Keyboard/Monitor)
[2] Network Control System Installation (Serial Console)
       [3] Recover administrator password. (Keyboard/Monitor)
[4] Recover administrator password. (Serial Console)
<Enter> Boot existing OS from Hard Disk.
Enter boot option and press <return>.
    boot:
Step 2 Select the desired recovery option, 3 or 4, depending on how you
are connected to the appliance and then follow the prompts.
    Thanks-

  • Managing vty ACLs with Prime Infrastructure?

    I have a number of devices -- various models of Nexus, (2k - 7k), 6500s and some 1U stackables.
I'm trying to come up with a good way to leverage PI (2.1) to apply a vty ACL to the switches. There does not appear to be a template for this. The problem of course is not only the order of operation (remove ACL from vty if there is one so Prime doesn't lock itself out, only then do the rest of the stuff) but that the syntax seems to differ very aggravatingly -- some require "line vty 0 1509," some "line vty 0 1510," some platforms accept named ACLs for vty ACLs, some don't...
Any tips, tricks, or best practices on how to install and update vty ACLs on IOS and/or NX-OS devices with Prime Infrastructure?

I am also interested in this topic. We have vty ACLs in place but with different names. Would like to be able to find and update the ACL's and vty config. Using PI 2.1.

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.0 Automatically add remove devices

    Dears,
I'm basically looking for a dcrcli equivalent to use on prime infrastructure 2.0.
Customer has a central repository of devices that must be monitored. When devices are added or removed there, they automagically appear or disappear in the other systems.
Does something like this exist or is this on the roadmap?
    Cheers,
    Michel

    Hi Scott,
Upto 7.3 config guide it was documented we have to reboot WLC when we configuring SNMP v3 which is wrong. (here is 7.3 config guide link for reference). May be older version (prior to 7.0) had that requirement, not too sure about it
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/7.3/configuration/guide/b_wlc-cg_chapter_0100.html#d16741e4514a1635
From 7.4 onwards config guide does not talk about it all. I deleted the default SNMPv3 user & create a new user in 7.4 & add it to prime without rebooting WLC.
Once you configureed a SNMPv3 user on a WLC, I do no think you can edit/change the password. You have to delete the user & recreate it with modified username/password.Then re-add the WLC to prime
The behaviour you mentioned is with any of later codes  of WLC ?

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.0 and Nexus 5548, SSH credentials fail

    Hi,
I'm having problem getting the Prime Infrastructure 2.0 to login with SSH to a Nexus 5548 to do an inventory. I get "Wrong Telnet/SSH credentials". But when I use the same credentials from another SSH-client it works fine. I also tested to SSH from the console of the Prime-server and that also works fine.
    Any ideas???
    Regards,
    Stefan Lindkvist

I have PI 2.0 working against Nexus 5k's in two different installations. See below for an example (click to enlarge).
Have you put in an entry in both the login and enable fields (even though they are not separately required when logging in directly)?

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.2 Released

For those who haven't noticed, Prime Infrastructure (PI) 2.2 was released on 17 December. The Release Notes, Quick Start guide, etc. are all posted on the PI product support page.
I downloaded the 3.2 GB ova and deployed / installed via vCenter into a VMware ESXi 5.5 environment without issue.
The migration path is to backup your supported earlier version to a repository and then restore from that repository onto the new host. I grabbed a fresh backup of our PI 2.1.2 and followed the guide to restore. It took a while (about 1-1/2 hours to restore and then 30 minutes more to start completely - see output below) but the process ran without a hitch. You do need to make sure that the new host meets or exceeds the hardware specs of the old one - i.e. amount of memory, disk and vCPUs.
My initial look at the new system seems to indicate all is well - I see all the expected maps and devices and old configuration archives were pulled over. I have quite a bit of exercising the new feature set to do but initial indications are promising.
It's good to finally see the Topology map.

  • Unable to update from Prime Infrastructure 1.2 (1.2.0.103)

    Hello,
I would like to update my Prime Infrastructure installation to the latest 2.0. According to this document I'm trying to install the update
pi_1.2.1.12_update.tar.gz but I always get this error:
    PRIME-0000-01/admin# copy ftp://172.16.14.102/pi_1.2.1.12_update.tar.gz disk:/defaultRepo
    Username: ftpuser
    Password:

Save the current ADE-OS running configuration? (yes/no) [yes] ?
    Generating configuration...
Saved the ADE-OS running configuration to startup successfully
    Initiating Application Patch installation...
Error: unknown encoding at line 1
    % Manifest file is invalid
The file's MD5 is correct on the ftp server, and I've copied it many times into defaultRepo, always getting the same error.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Matteo

Ok, I've found the solution. The ftp copy was changing the file each time, so the file was always corrupted once in the defaultRepo.
    On the ftp server:
    # ls -l
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root     root     11734212 Sep 25 16:19 pi_1.2.1.12_update.tar.gz
On the Prime server, when copied using ftp:
    PRIME-0000-01/admin# dir disk:/defaultRepo
       11733763 Sep 25 2013 16:21:10  pi_1.2.1.12_update.tar.gz
So, I've copied the file using http, and this solved:
    PRIME-0000-01/admin# copy http://172.16.14.144/pi_1.2.1.12_update.tar.gz disk:/defaultRepo
    PRIME-0000-01/admin# dir disk:/defaultRepo
       11734212 Sep 25 2013 16:23:31  pi_1.2.1.12_update.tar.gz
    PRIME-0000-01/admin# patch install pi_1.2.1.12_update.tar.gz defaultRepo
Save the current ADE-OS running configuration? (yes/no) [yes] ?
    Generating configuration...
Saved the ADE-OS running configuration to startup successfully
    Initiating Application Patch installation...
    Patch successfully installed
    Thanks anyway!

  • Cisco prime infrastructure 1.3 to 2.0

Hello Guys I have an NCS (cisco prime) 1.3 in appliance model (IBM server) and we are wondering if we could upgrade it to 2.0 (with out virtualization)
The 1.3 covers the 2.0 requirements.
The reason for the upgrade is that we are hitting the cscud26027 Bug.

check the following link and also you can see to upgrade path from the diagram given below

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 on Windows Server/Hyper-V

    Hi Everyone,
In Entriprise environment while designing a BYOD solution we need to integrate ISE3315 with CPI 1.2. I know that Cisco ISE software either runs on 3315 platform or other option is virtual appliance (which is VMware based). Now problem is that we have Hyper-V environment as standard so I need to go with ISE-3315. Here my concern is to I install CPI 1.2 on Hyper-V, or on a Windows Server (2008 or 2012) based machine. Is that doable?
Any help, suggessions would be warmly welcomed.
    Thanks,
    Azhar...

Cisco Prime LMS will slowly be phased out in favor of Cisco Prime Infrastructure and hence there are no new mainline releases are planned to provide support to new Hardware or virtualization support.
However, Prime LMS do support Hyper V Virtualization (As an installable in Windows 2008). Please note that Virtualization technologies like, VMWare and Hyper V virtualization systems are not supported in LMS 5000, and LMS 10000 Devices license, in Windows. VMWare Systems are supported in LMS 5000, and LMS 10000 Devices license in Soft Appliance.
