Prime Infrastructure 2.1 - SFP port alarms to email/show total network traffic speed

Hello,
Running Prime Infrastructure 2.1 with assurance license.
I have two questions:
1. Setting up alarms in PI 2.1. I've set up a port group of my main switches that have TenGig links to our main router. I have set up a monitor template that has only interface availability on it and then deployed it. In theory, this should email me, the contact (where I put my email address in), when the ports that I have set up go down, correct?
2. I want to monitor the entire traffic of the network going in to the router from our TenGig ports. I've messed around with the dashlets and adding my port group to the WAN utilization dashlet but only see % of utilization. I'd like to be able to see raw traffic stats from those ports. I'm sure I'm missing something. Where do I need to look in PI to check raw traffic data in Mbps/Gbps from my ports.

In my first question, I do not get an email when a port goes down. I set up a test port and when I pulled it, after about 10 minutes, it had never sent me an email. I will continue to look through what I've been doing to see if I can figure it out.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure and no new events / alarms since update to 2.2.1

    Hello,
I have upgraded our Cisco Prime Infrastructure from version 2.1 to 2.2.1 (with a backup and restore). We have round about 700 APs and three 5208 Controller. So far everything seems to work really fine. The only problem is that there are no new alarms/events under "Monitor", "Alarms and Events".
The last entries (events and alarms) are dated before the upgrade. Other informations (like client counts for example) are correct.
Is there a known bug related to my problem? Can anybody help?
    Thanks

    I have done some research:
I see the following problems in the log-package (downloaded from Prime):

I think that there is a problem with a too small tablespace. But I can´t fix that. Anybody? ;)

  • Can Prime Infrastructure 2.0 enable port 8080 for Browser access?

By the offical document, port 8080 is pre-defintied for the Browser access but it is disabled by default.
I am finding a way to enable the port, but I cannot find any guide on cisco site.
Did anyone know how to enable the 8080 port?
    Thanks in advance.
    Louis

    HIi Hoi;
As per cisco document :  http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/2.0/administrator/guide/config_server_settings.html#wp1082023
    Configuring Server Settings
The Server Settings page allows you to enable or disable the TFTP, FTP,  HTTP, HTTPS, or Compliance Service. To turn the server settings on or  off:
Step 1 Choose Administration > System Settings.
Step 2 From the left sidebar menu, choose Server Setting.
Step 3 If  you want to modify the FTP and TFTP directories or the HTTP and HTTPS  ports that were established during installation, enter the port number  (or port number and root where required) that you want to modify and  click Enable or Disable.
The changes are reflected after a restart.
I am not sure but try to change the port number 8080 in HTTP Forward option and save it, then restart it.
    I think it will work.

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.1 - Power supply alarms on switchs

    Hi,
How can i manage to get a email if one of my power supply on a switch die (see the attached file).
I tried to activate all snmp traps possible on my switch and all i can get is configuration management events on PI.
I changed the Severity Configuration on PI for Environmental monitor detects a testpoint reaching a critical state to critical.
    Any ideas?

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.0 Link-Down Alarm severity level

    Hi,
i have been looking for a way to lower the severity level of link-down Alarms. I use the threshhold utilization feature and want to generate an alarm when CPU or Memory goes over 90%, this works fine. Problem is that when you enable "Switches and Hubs" or "Routers" category to receive alarms under: Operate -> Alarms & Events -> Email Notifications, you define only Critical alarms should generate an email and Link-down is by default Critical.
Well you figure that you should be able to change this, but i can't find anything to change the severity under: Administration -> System Settings -> Severity Configuration.
Do anyone know if this is even possible? If so please tell me how..

    Hi,
    Yes it is possible.
    Changing Alarm Severities
You can change the severity level for newly generated alarms
    Note Existing alarms remain unchanged.
To change the severity level of newly generated alarms:
Step 1 Choose Administration > System Settings .
Step 2 Choose Severity Configuration from the left sidebar menu.
Step 3 Select the check box of the alarm condition whose severity level you want to change.
Step 4 From the Configure Severity Level drop-down list, choose the new severity level ( Critical , Major , Minor , Warning , Informational , or Reset to Default ).
Step 5 Click Go, then click OK.
Check the attached screen shot ..
    Thanks-
    Afroz

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.0 Link Status Alarms

    Hi,
we are used SNMP traps sent from our core switches to our PI 1.3 server to notify us about link down events. In this scenario we got emails only for link down events on our core switches.
Now, we are using PI 2.0. It seems PI 2.0 checks link status of all devices on its own. We got an email for a link down event on any of our switches. To avoid that I configured PI 2.0 to treat Link down events as Informational instead of Critical (Administration > System Settings > Severity Configuration, Link down). Now, we don't get email notification for link down events at all.
Is there a way to configure PI 2.0 to inform us on link down events on our core switches, but not on a link down event on any of our other devices?
    Timo

Disable the trap from the configuration on the switches you don't want to get messages from.  So depending on what kind of switch it would be something like:
    conf t
no snmp-server enable traps linkdown linkup
Your string may different, there are several options that can be included in this line.  You may have to remove the whole line and readd it with only the options you want.

    Hello all,
has anybody faced a freezing problem when you click in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 down on alarm bar and then to Rogue AP alarms and then try to add an annotitation or change a rogue alarm to Friendly?
I tried it on different PC, different browsers (Firefox 14.0.1. Chrome ...) and the problem is still there.
    Has anybody an idea?

  • WS-X45-SUP8-E and Prime Infrastructure 4.2.5

    Hi all,
we have installed a catalyst 4510R+E with two WS-X45-SUP8-E.  Prime Infrastructure 4.2.5 cisco view didn't show the supervisor engines with any ports or statistics. They are only shown as "Supervisor". If I use the Cisco Network Assistant utility, the two engines are shown as "unknown".
How can I monitor the engines?

Can you go over the licensing method with Prime Infrastructure 1.2 please?
Raun, you can check out the following link for ordering guide at
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps12239/products_data_sheets_list.html
I currently have NCS and do NOT currently have LMS.  I know I can move to Prime Infrastructure through Cisco Product Upgrade Tool.  However, what I am confused about is do I still have to buy LMS to have LMS functionality in Prime Infrastructure 1.2?
==> Not at all.  The converged product will give you basic management capability for routers and switches that LMS provided in this release.   Feature/Functionality will keep on growing with upcoming releases.
If not, do the licenses I transfer into Prime Infrastructure 1.2 from NCS also work for devices to work under LMS?
==> Licensing is different than NCS or LMS.  You don't have to transfer the license.  Each install of Prime Infrastructure will have a unique UID string on which the licenses are based.  A new license will be applied to the product.
Mean, can my currently 350 licenses be used for AP's as in NCS and routers in the LMS portion of Prime Infrastructure 1.2?
==> I would recommend getting a total count of your wired and wireless devices and match the right SKU based on that.
Hope this helps.. Let me know if you have any further questions,

  • Monitoring ASA in Cisco Prime infrastructure 2.2

Hi everybody.  I have some issue with cisco Prime Infrastructure  2.2.  We use this product in our network for monitoring network devices and I need to monitor also our ASA 5550 device with soft 8.4.  I  added ASA to Cisco PI but see only basic component like my device can reachable via  and read via snmp. But cannot see  CPU, RAM, Device ENV like Temperature, l2l vpn connection,  Interfaces status and Utilization that interfaces, cannot see sub interface that placed on ASA like that g0/0.20.  I need fully monitor ASA and See logs and trap for my device:
CPU RAM ENV (Temperature), Interface and sub interface status, L2L VPN  Status.
1 Cisco Prime infrastructure can full support  ASA for monitoring and logging.. IF YES how can i configure  that features in Cisco PI 2.2 for ASA
2 IF not which product Can full support that features for full monitoring and logging  ASA devices
I have a little deadline for finishing
    thanks everybody before

I've not success monitoring ASA interface utilization either. I'm using PI 2.2 with device update #1. The ASA is a 5585-X with 9.2(3) software.
I have deployed the PI monitoring template to the ASA and do see its overall status and PI has enumerated the interfaces in the device page.
I even looked at a packet capture and see PI querying the values of the interface counters and those values being sent back to PI - yet I cannot select any ASA interface when drilling down under Performance Detail monitoring.
When I get some free time I will open a TAC case on it, meanwhile I am getting all the info I need from the upstream and downstream switches.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3, Mail Configuration

    Hi,
I have a Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 and I want to set up the mail. When I test it,  I get this error:
Failed  to send mail to primary SMTP server. Failed to send mail to secondary  SMTP server. Please make sure that you save mail configuration by  hitting 'Save' button.
I have the ip  address, and the username and password. Do I need to create a new buzon  for the prime? because by default the "From" field appears with
    [email protected]
    Thanks!!

Some extra info that has just come to my attention.  At one point we were running (we're actually still running) CiscoWorks with LMS3.2 and Cisco NCS 1.x.  I merged these two things together into Cisco Prime Infrastructure (upgraded the licensing to get 450 lifecycle licenses to cover the APs + all of the devices coming from LMS3.2).  I followed all of the documented procedures to upgrade the NCS appliance to Prime Infrastructure.  But when I type "show application" from the CLI of the NCS appliance (now the Prime Infrastructure appliance) I see this:
    HQ-NCS1/admin# show application
NCS             Cisco Prime Network Control System
Is that normal?  Maybe this is my problem.  Should this output list "Cisco Prime Infrastructure" instead of (or in addtion to) Cisco Prime Network Control System?  When I login to the GUI it shows "Cisco Prime Infrastructure" and the GUI has changed considerably (menus are different) so I'm assuming that the application upgrades I launched from the CLI to go to Prime Infrastructure worked fine.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure Scheduled Configuration Archive not executing

We have a deployment of Cisco Prime Infrastrcuture 1.3 (1.3.0.20).
Configuration Archive is a feature that collects and archives the device configurations i.e. cisco switches.
You have an option to schedule this to run, say daily, weekly etc. Once scheduled you can see it in the "Jobs Dashboard" and with the "next start time" of what you configured. I have a situation whereby  the time it is suppose to start - it doesnt - howevere flags the job as a "success". Not newe device configurations are archived and the "next start time" remain the same. Its almost like it is failing to execute, but some other process under the hood thinks that it was been executed correctly?
Any ideas or experience that could help here would be appreciated!

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 Alarms (switch port down)

We have a cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 managing switches, routers and AP.
By default, when a port of a switch goes down, the cisco Prime Infrastructre generates a Critical Alarm for that. (this is a problem, because every phone of laptop disconnection will generate a critical alarm for me)
I found out that if we go to Administration --> Alarm Severity --> Link down, I can change the Alarm from Critical to another type of alarm.(ex: warning)
The problem is that I want to keep the Critical Alarm for my Uplinks ports and for some important switch ports, and I would like to make the alarm as warning for the normal user ports.
I know that I can create Port Groupping and add ports to each group and apply monitoring templates on those groups. But This couldn't Help me solving my alarm problem.
So I just need to know how to manage the alarms severity for each group of ports.
    Thank you

    Hi,
    Same problem here.
I am using Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0 (evaluation version for 60 days). I want to deploy port monitoring for my trunk ports between switches and some other important ports e.g. servers. Basically I want to get alarms when these ports are down, there are errors on ports and etc.
So in Design>Port Grouping I created User Defined group with important ports. In Deploy>Monitoring Deployment I selected Interface Health (default)>Deploy selected Port Groups and when selected port group I created.
Now the rule shows Deployed: Yes and Status: Active. After that I just pulled out one port which was in monitored group, waited 5min as it is set in Interface Health (default) template, and nothing happened, and worse, alarms started to show up of other ports where regular users are connected (computers was turned off), which I do not want to see at all. I tried redeploy template, I even created my own template but still no desired result.
Any suggestions how to make port monitoring work?

  • Including Interface Description in Cisco PRime Infrastructure Alarm Message

    Hi all,
i succesfully configured a Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 applliance to display an alarm and to send me an e-mail when switch uplink ports goes down.
The text displayed in alarm message is :
port 'interface_id' is down on device 'device_ip_address'
I'd like to include in this text also the interface description so the text will display :
port 'interface_id'  'interface_descriprion' is down on device 'device_ip_address'
    Is this possible?
    Thankyou in advance

    Hi,
    i followed these steps :
    SWITCH SIDE
    - configured Prime Infrastructure as snmp-server host;
    - enabled snmp-traps for linkup and linkdown events globally;
    - disabled snmp-traps for linkup and linkdown on non relevant interfaces using the no snmp trap link-status command
    PRIME INFRASTRUCTURE SIDE
    - under "Deploy/Monitor Deployment" i deployed template "Interface Health"  for all the interested switches
    -  under "Administration/System Settings/Mail Server Configuration" configured my internal SMTP server to make Prime Infrastructure able to send e-mails
    - under "Operate/Alarms & Events" click on "Email Notifications" , then on "Switches and Hubs"
       - check the "critical" box ,  insert the destination e-mail address into the "To" field then click "Save"
     -  check the "switches and Hubs" box and then click Save
As i know is possible to avoid to configure every single not-interesting port on the switches with "no snmp trap link-status" command (it's a bit annoying when you have tens of switches), using Port Grouping configuration on PI but i tried it without success.
    Hope this helps.

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.0 Alarms & Events

    Hi everyone
I'm working on narrowing down the alerts and events, so I get emails only when a device is unreachable. Eventually, I'd like to continue with specifying ports on these devices as well, like trunk ports and whatnot. As of right now though, i'm wondering how you all have been handeling the Unreachable Device alerts.
    Thanks and happy Friday.
Edit: As a follow up, I wonder if it's possible to define different types of alarms as critical. So if a device is unreachable, mark that as critical. If a port is down, mark as major. That way I'll be able to email on critical events only.
