Prime Infrastructure map and 3702I Azimuth/Elevation setting?

If I have all of my 3702I ceiling-mounted, what should I set the azimuth and elevation to in the map to get the most accurate heatmap?

I suspect that you can point the AZ/EL indicators anywhere you wish and they will have no affect on the resulting heatmap when using internal antenna devices as most all are Omni directional globe shapes.  Although I usually settle for a big salad bowl.
Yes AM Survey is one of the only ways to determine the affects of all those stuffed cube wall cabinet and desk clutter has on signal scatter and absorption.

  • Prime Infrastructure maps and API

Anyone know of a way to get map info from PI via API that allows you to associate APs to it?
I can get Sites which shows me the map names/structure along with apCount.
AccessPointDetails has a field called <mapLocation> however it only has the string description one liner location such as "default location".
I'm guessing that Sites has the DB links to what APs are associated, I just need a way to pull out which ones they are.
    Thanks.

You can still monitor interfaces with the following workaround (which works for me):
    Under Design > Monitoring Configuration:
From the tree on the left, expand Features > Interface Health
If needed, select the interface parameters to poll and the polling intervals, provide a name to your template and then click "Save as new template"
    Under Deploy > Monitoring Deployment:
Locate your template and click the green "Deploy" button
Select which devices you want to poll, or just select a group like "Routers", Switches etc.
That should do the trick and information should show up after few minutes.
    Hope it helps,
    Tomer
BTW- you can also perform the same for device health, by using "Device Health" Metrics template under "Design".

NetFlow export is also supported on other Cisco switches when using a NetFlow Feature Card (NFFC) or NFFC II and the Route Switch Module (RSM), or Route Switch Feature Card (RSFC). However, check whether version 5 is supported, as most switches export version 7 by default.
You can check the below steps to diagnose the issue::
To verify that NetFlow is exported from a device to PI, follow the steps below:
    1)    Browse to Administration > Data Sources page. Check the value in column ‘Last Active Time’  for the ‘Device Data Sources’ table. If the table is empty or  the value does not represent recent time, then
it is possible that the device is not exporting NetFlow or PI Assurance license is not applied / expired.
    2)    Login to PI console ( via SSH) as root user and run the command:
                    netstat –an | grep 9991 – Output of this should be like :  udp        0      0 :::9991         :::*
Check the firewall settings on PI server using the command: firewall -L
    1)    Check the configuration on an IOS / IOS –XE device. Run the commands
    a)    sh running-config | inc destination
    1)    This should list the IP address of the PI SERVER ( along with other outputs if any)
    b)    sh running-config | inc 9991
    1)    This should list at least one entry.
    c)    If the above are fine, then verify that the flow monitor, flow exporter and the flow records are correctly configured on the device.
Refer to the URLs below to configure NetFlow export.

  • Positioning APs on prime infrastructure map

I have a 3600i AP positioned vertically on a wall facing out. I know this is bad placement I am working on getting them all oriented with some new mounts for the type of office we have. How do I position this in terms of orientation and elevation. After I position the AP on the map and check the heatmap I am expecting to see low signal going behind the AP but it still looks like the AP is horizontal.
If the upper left is 0 degrees and my wall is on the right side of my map along the Y axis with the AP mounted facing back towards the left side of my map. What should my elevation and orientation be set to?

Please see the below link. It will describe how you can decide the elevation and orientation of AP.

  • Prime Infrastructure Device and Interface Health Collection Settings

    Hello,
i am evaluating Prime Infrastructure 1.2, so far i have added two devices. A router 2911 and an Catalyst 3560x, but for both devices i don't get any graphs for memory, cpu or interface utilization.
I tried to enable Administration > System Settings > Monitoring Settings Auto Monitoring but the changes are not saved even i nice status message on the bottom right corner.
after a refresh it's like before.
I have an NCS as well and there i have in the background tasks Switch CPU and Memory Poll as well as Switch Interface Utilization Poll. In the Prime Infrastructure i don't have them at all. According to the Configuration Guide there should be a CAT Switch CPU and Memory Poll and a CAT Switch Interface Poll Task, but there is nothing.
    Here the Screenshot from NCS
    and here from Prime Infrastructure

I have a Cisco Prime Infrastructure version 1.3 virtual appliance and we have a new Prime Infrastructure version 2.1 virtual appliance set up. I would like to get the wireless information put into the new server. This includes the WLC and APs and then the campus maps and the location of each AP on the map Im not sure if the heat mapping is a feature of Prime or if I have to set that up too. But I would like the heat maps.

  • Ask the Expert: One Management with Prime Infrastructure 1.2

    With Tejas Shah
Welcome to the Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions from Cisco expert Tejas Shah on One Management with Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Combining the wireless functionality of Cisco Prime Network Control System (NCS) with the wired functionality of Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution (LMS),  Cisco Prime Infrastructure simplifies and automates many of the day-to-day tasks associated with maintaining and managing the end-to-end network infrastructure from a single pane of glass. The new converged solution delivers all of the existing wireless capabilities for RF management, user access visibility, reporting, and troubleshooting along with wired lifecycle functions such as discovery, inventory, configuration and image management, automated deployment, compliance reporting, integrated best practices, and reporting.

Raun, please see my responses inline:
Can you go over the licensing method with Prime Infrastructure 1.2 please?
Raun, you can check out the following link for ordering guide at
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps12239/products_data_sheets_list.html
I currently have NCS and do NOT currently have LMS.  I know I can move to Prime Infrastructure through Cisco Product Upgrade Tool.  However, what I am confused about is do I still have to buy LMS to have LMS functionality in Prime Infrastructure 1.2?
==> Not at all.  The converged product will give you basic management capability for routers and switches that LMS provided in this release.   Feature/Functionality will keep on growing with upcoming releases.
If not, do the licenses I transfer into Prime Infrastructure 1.2 from NCS also work for devices to work under LMS?
==> Licensing is different than NCS or LMS.  You don't have to transfer the license.  Each install of Prime Infrastructure will have a unique UID string on which the licenses are based.  A new license will be applied to the product.
Mean, can my currently 350 licenses be used for AP's as in NCS and routers in the LMS portion of Prime Infrastructure 1.2?
==> I would recommend getting a total count of your wired and wireless devices and match the right SKU based on that.
Hope this helps.. Let me know if you have any further questions,

    Server and Client Requirements
For information on server and client requirements for the system and browser, see Chapter 2 of Installing and Migrating to Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution 4.2 at:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.2/install/guide/
    install.html
To summarize the options it describes, you can run the LMS product on any number of platforms - a dedicated Cisco hardware appliance, a physical server of your own with Windows or Solaris OS, a VMware server with a Windows server OS guest, or a "soft appliance". The soft appliance is package built with the underlying guest OS (a customized RHEL distribution with Cisco's Application Development Environment OS (ADE-OS)) built-in.
Once you have installed LMS 4.2, you should patch - first to 4.2.2 and then to the current 4,2,3. then run the software update feature to bring all package components up to date.
Regarding licensing, there is a Cisco Prime Infrastructure Ordering and Licensing Guide here.
When you order the licenses for PI 1.2 (new customer), you order the base product and then Lifecycle licenses (required for either PI 1.2 Lifecycle and LMS installations - which option is a customer choice) and, optionally, Compliance and Assurance licenses. An upgrade order for an existing LMS customer will include the base PI 1.2 with Lifecycle licenses as well as LMS in a single SKU as noted in tables 4 and 5 of the Ordering Guide.

  • Migrating data from Cisco NCS 1.1.1.24 to Prime Infrastructure 1.3 Question

I am spinning up a new VM server for Prime to migrate from NCS. I have not been able to find the patch Cisco recommends to run before upgrading. My question is do I need to run this patch (ncs_patch-1.1.1.24-upgrade-12.tar.gz) if I am just gong to bring up a whole new machine and not upgrade the existing NCS? My plan is to do a back-up on the NCS and a restore from the new Prime.

Migrating from NCS 1.1.1.24 to Prime Infrastructure 1.3
To migrate to a new Prime Infrastructure 1.3 system, follow the process as described in the following two links below:
    ● Back Up the Data from the Existing System
    ● Install a New Prime Infrastructure System and Migrate the Data from the Backup
    ● Restoring Prime Infrastructure Database in a High Availability Environment

  • Migrate Guest Users from Prime Infrastructure 2.1 to ISE

I have just installed a new Prime Infrastructure Server and have discovered our list of guest user accounts from the discovered Controllers. We are implementing ISE 1.3 and would like to move all the guest user accounts from Prime to ISE without doing it manually. Is there a way to either export or pull the guest users from Prime or the WLC and import them to ISE?
I would be very interested to find out if this can be done.
    Cheers,
    Tom

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2 - compliance,EOL/EOS

    Hi,
Since this week I am evaluating Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2 and I have a few questions:
    - Some configuration rules are mandatory. Is it possible to run custom compliance reports with a custom baseline template? Where/how can I make a baseline template?
    - Where can I find EOL/EOS information for our devices?
    Thanks in advance,
    Marnix

    Hi Marnix,
unfortunately , you can't create custome reports in PI yet , planned for future release.
Baseline Templates are also not supported yet.
check the below link for feature support in PI:

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 Custom Reports

Hi, I need to generate a custom Guest User report from Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1. It needs to have a couple more fields added to the existing "Guest User Association" report.
Is it possible to connect to the Cisco Prime Infrastructure Database and Generate custom reports? Is there any documentation on this?

Programmatic access to PI's data is via the REST API.
Check the help menu on your PI server to see documentation regarding the supported tables and fields that can be queried via that method.

  • User Name and Password for Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1

    Hi all:
I am stuck at the login page of Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1.
I have tried using the user name root and its password (when log in with root at Vsphere Client) and also the login user name "before" get into the appliance infrastructure, all cannot work.
Anybody knows what is the default username or password or any way to set the username and password for this Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 website?
    Thanks!
    tangsuan

    Hi Tangsuan,
Following is the documented procedure for password recovery..
In order to modify the GUI root user password, you will need to login to the NCS CLI
as an admin user, and enter the command
"ncs password root password <new password>" (without the quotes)
This should set the web interface root user password :
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/ncs/1.1/configuration/guide/manag.html#wp1268889
If you have lost your CLI password , try the default logging that is  ,
CLI user is admin and not root, so please try logging in as admin with
the password that was set during setup. If that does not work , you need
the install disk that came with the appliance to recover that password.
    Follow these steps:
    Recovering a Lost Admin Password
If you lose or forget the admin password for NCS appliance, follow these steps.
Step 1 Reboot the NCS appliance with the ISO DVD inserted. The Cisco Prime Network Control
    System Welcome screen appears:
