Print at actual size?

I know this is an incredibly silly question, but how do I print an image in LR2 at it's actual size?
I've been away from using the LR print module for quite a long time, and I just cannot see how to do it!  For example, if I have a 2 in x 3 in photo, when I go to the Print module it is stretched to full screen.  No amount of checking and unchecking options is bringing me to show it at actual size.
I know it must be totally obvious, but how do I do it?
Thanks.

LR does not use the image size ( x pixels width, y pixels height, n pixels per inch, thus an image has a size of a by b inch) you are referring to,
so it does not give you a print with given size as such with a simple check button or similar.
It looks at images as being  x by y pixels, and when printing asks the user the print-size of the image,
and with what resolution to print that image: xxx ppi.
It will then up-res or down-res during the print process to meet the stated ppi (but leave the source image untouched).
You have to set up a print template with a cell size as you want, e.g. 2 x 3 inch, using the commands in the right panel,
and if you want to re-use it, save it as a template.
Then when you want to print an image, select this template and it will show the selected image in that cell size.

Jan R.

  • Can you lock a pdf to print in Actual Size?

I'm having an issues when others go to print out a document and don't make sure the document is set to print in actual size and we lose the scaling on the document. Is there a way to lock the print settings on a pdf so they are always correct?

You can set a Print Preset in Acrobat Pro in File > Document > Advanced which controls the way the Print dialog initially displays. Of course, someone could also change it. You cannot lock the print settings.

  • How to create a PDF that prints at actual size for all printers

I create printable educational products for teachers and homeschoolers.  I need to be able to make some printable PDFs that have cards set to a specific dimension, say 3" x 3".  When I create PDFs in InDesign and print them, the printer tends to shrink the PDF down.  This happens even when I set the Page Scaling to None.  But regardless of what my printer does, I would like to be able to create PDFs that print at actual size for anyone who purchases my products.  How can this be done?  Can I change the settings when I create the PDF?  Do I need to includes special instructions with my products?  Thanks so much for your help.

You can specify the printing process in the PDF for Acrobat and Reader, open the PDF in Acrobat > file properties (right mouse click on the page) and in the extended tab (the most right tab) you can set printing not to scale for that PDF as default setting.

  • Will not print to actual size

    Hello,
I am brand new to any Photoshop program, and am trying to design in Elements 10, that came with a printer I recently purchased.
I created a new file and set it with a white background, 300 pixel/inch (default?), and at 10.625 inches wide and 7.375 inches in height.
When working, I enable the rulers, and can see that indeed, the file is at the above dimensions. However, when I go to print and select to print at the actual size, it always comes out of the printer at 10.25 inches wide. The height is always fine, exactly as I have specified. But the width is always too short by the same amount. I have attempted to print at a custom size instead of actual size, and then set the custom dimensions to my desired W and H. Same result. The height is fine, the width is 10.25 inches.
As I noted, I am new to all of this! I am sure there must be any easy fix . . . something I just don't understand. Please help!
As a few extra details, just in case it matters, I am using a MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.8 and the printer is an Epson 1430 Artisan. The printer drivers should be completely updated, as I just went through all that on the phone with them last weekend when the Epson had trouble communicating with the MacBook Pro.
Thank you in advance for any help!
    -Fisheye
EDIT: I even increased the size of the project under image > resize to a full 11 inches. It still will only print to 10.25 inches.

    Thank you, hatstead.
Indeed it was a printer issue, not an Elements 10 issue. The printer will print borderless at 8.5x11, but I was unfamiliar with the settings. Thanks!

  • Why won't preview print the actual size of the photo?

Why can't I print directly from Photoshop instead of having to print through preview? I believe I've checked the proper settings in preview preference but it keeps scaling my photos.

Rusty, you always get a preview before printing whether from Preview.app or from PS.
This is the dialogue I get printing from within PS....
and this is the one I get printing through preview...
I'm not sure what your issue is with printing from PS, perhaps try on the Adobe forums?

  • Cannot print actual size when choosing several pages per paper

I'm using Adobe Reader XI and trying to print a pdf (exported from InDesign)´where each page is in A5 format. I want to print two A5 pages for each A4 paper. However, when I click the button Several (or similar, I'm using Swedish version) there is a fixed 25 mm margin around each A5 page so that the pages are much reduced on the printout. I'd like to print actual size, and I think this was possible in a previous version. If I print one A5 per A4 paper I can print the actual size. I tried the button Print Format (equiv.) but the margins are fixed and cannot be changed. Awkward. Thanks for help or explanation why this is so.

I have a little more information. I turned on "single hairline" border and as you can see, it's converting my square pages into "US Letter" pages BEFORE applying them two-to-a-page. So it's using my selection of "Paper Size" as both the source and destination paper size, rather than just the destination size, because my source is obviously 12x12 square (confirmed by looking at page properties in preview). Apple, please fix this

  • Photoshop elements not printing correct image size

My photoshop elements 12 prints images larger than called for by the settings. A 3" square image, for example, printed at "actual size" comes out at about 3.5 inches. This is a new problem, as I've use PSE for years without it happening. I figure I must have unknowingly changed a setting somewhere, but can't figure it out. Any suggestions?

I did that, and also reinstalled PSE, both to no avail. Here's a shot of the print dialog. I don't know where the numbers shown by my arrow came from, or how to change them, but when I print the page, and the photo I am printing, are scaled up to 11x8.5, thereby expanding the image proportionately. This particular image is 3x2 inches actual, but comes out 3.75x2.5 inches. There seems to be a built-in border of some sort that I've never had to deal with before.

  • Scale an image to actual size?

I often use the Crop Tool to get part of an image to print at actual size.
For example, Crop: Width 7cm @ Resolution 600 pixels/inch (same as my
printer), then select a known width of 7cm then crop and print.
I figure there must be a way without actually cropping the image, perhaps by selecting the known dimension.
I could do the math myself, but I figure Photoshop CS4 can do it for me.
    Any suggestions?

Nigel: Here is a method that may work for you.
    (1) Since you have PSCS4, you are able to convert your image to a
        smart object.
    (2) Create a layer mask that corresponds to the physical size you
would want the known object to print at.  E.g., your known object
(the coin) is 20.3mm wide, so you create a rectangular marquee
        that is 20.3mm wide:
        (a) Create an arbitrary sized rectangular marquee, then use
Select->Transform Selection and enter the desired height and
width into the object bar (e.g., 20.3mm <tab> 20.3mm) and
            commit. It doesn't matter where in the image you make this;
all that matters is that you have a 20.3x20.3mm marquee.
        (b) Turn this marquee into a mask by clicking on the masks panel
and then the icon second from the right.  Unlock the mask
from the smart object by clicking on the chain icon.
    (3) Use this layer mask to calibrate the image against the known
        object:
        (a) Click on the smart object icon in the layer, then use
Edit->Transform (with the aspect ratio locked) to move the
known object (coin) into the mask and scale it so it just
            barely fits into its width.
        (b) Your smart object is now scaled properly in Photoshop.  You
should now delete (or disable) the layer mask, which is no
            longer needed.
    (4) Use the Move tool, if necessary, and the Rectangular Marquee tool
to select the area of the image to be printed.
    (5) In the Print dialog, set scale to 100%.  Don't use borderless
printing, which typically reduces the printing scale slightly.

  • How can I print a pdf in the actual size with a page border?

How can I print a pdf in the actual size with a page border? (2 pages per sheet preferred)
I usually print pdfs of books at a copy shop and they turn out fine.
The problem comes when I try to print the same books at home.
I use Adobe Acrobat X with the same settings: "multiple pages per sheet" (2x1) and page border. But the pages are slightly shrunken when printed. I think this is because my printer can't print as closely to the margins. Still, two pages should be able to fit on one sheet in actual size. Are there any layout settings that I can play with to find a better fit, besides portrait and landscape?
If I select page scaling "none," I'm able to print the pdf in actual size, one page per sheet. But there's no option to add a page border.

I have a test with some questions (multiple choice, FIB, matching, etc). I have just one button to submit all the answers, and after submiting the student can see his score and review the test to know where he failed. He can't answer again. However, he can change the answer multiple times before submiting.
"if i turn on success/failure captions the student will see them while answering" - before submitting
"if i turn them off he wont know what's the right answer" - after submitting
My results page is the default. I didn't use any variable. When i go to the results page after reviewing the test all the entry boxes are "wrong".

  • How can I print a pdf doc of size A3 (one page only) on A4 (on one page) front and back (actual size duplex printing) without reducing the size?

The printing should come of actual size half on front and half on back of A4 paper.

    Hi Fakhar,
That is not possible without reducing the size. It cant be possible at all.

  • Why does my artwork print slightly larger than actual size? - MacOS 10.9.2

I have an issue which I have no answer.  Every time I print an artwork for product mockup, say a 3x5 card, it prints slightly larger than a 3x5 card.  I have to manually scale my artwork down to 98.5 in the print dialog to get as close as possible to the actual size.  Its not related to a specific printer.  I have an HP printer and a Canon printer and the issue exists exactly the same between the two.  I'm running Illustrator 17.1 on an iMac running MacOS 10.9.2.  Can you please help make this easier for me?

    Wayne,
Are you using PostScript printer drivers (or at least PostScript emulation)? Non PostScript drivers may behave a bit like gremlins.
What happens if you Save As or Print to PDF and then print from that using the actual size/no adaptation to paper size?

  • Can't choose what part of image to print when printing actual size.

I have a pdf file that needs to be printed out to actual size, since the image is a temlate for a part that I need to cut out. Since the actual size is bigger than the paper size, it shows a purple box in the preview box, indicating what part of the document it's going to print. The first time I printed the image, it let me slide the box or the slider below, left to right to select what part of the document on wanted on the paper. But, now it's just locked in place. I'm not sure what changed. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64bit, Adobe Reader XI. Printer is a Canon MP495.

Francine, thank you so much for the tips. It took me over two months but I finally got around to trying to take care of this.
I tried your suggestions in order. Steps 1-3 did not fix the problem, but reinstalling from Pacifist did (thank goodness!). Wish I had tried that from the get-go.
Thanks again to everyone for all the suggestions.
There are a couple of things to try:
    1. If you haven't done so lately, try Disk Utility
and Repair Permissions. Won't hurt, it's quick and
easy, and there is a remote possibility that it will
help. It actually does occasionally fix something
    strange like this.
    2. Go to http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ and
download the COMBO 10.4.8 updater (it is huge, like
148MBs) and run it, then Repair Permissions again.
    3. Restart and hold down the Shift key when you hear
the startup chime. This will force the computer to do
a Safe boot. When you see the splash screen saying
"Safe Mode" release the Shift key. The boot will take
longer than normal as the system repairs the disk,
empties font caches, and disables startup items. Not
sure if Image Capture will run correctly with some
Apple startup items disabled, but you can try it.
    Restart normally afterwards.
    4. You can download Pacifist here:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
It will extract things from your Install disk so you
can install only what you need, in your case Image
    Capture.
My Image Capture has never had a problem, so I'm
afraid all I can recommend is these general
approaches. Hope one of them helps.

  • I am needing to set the DEFAULT Print to be ACTUAL SIZE not FIT.  I need this to be the DEFAULT SETTING for the program.

I have a couple users using Acrobat XI Pro and when they print a PDF it is shrunk to 96.08%.  I need to find a way to set the DEFAULT Setting to be Actual Size.  We are a Law Firm and the Document Numbering is being cut off from the docs due to the Shrinking.
Has anyone had any experience in changing the DEFAULT settings of the Print Window? Can you please pass along any knowledge on how to accomplish this?  Thanks for your time and replies.

Acrobat and Reader's Fit and Scale functions are "sticky".
From the Print Dialog > Page Size & Handling
Any option you choose will remain active for all subsequent documents.
(Some features remain active until the program is quit/restarted)
    Choose Actual Size
Do not change the selection, it will retain the setting.
