Print Booklet Bleed Issue in CS6

When I try to print the file as a booklet, the left and right bleeding of some pages does not appear on themselves; however, they appear on the next spread.
The spread goes like this, with some objects exceeding the pages for bleeding:
When I print as a booklet, the preview goes like this:
Front and Back Covers; their left and right bleed do not show...
...but instead, they reach the next spread. These blue stripes in the left and right are the continuation of the covers above.
And it keeps happening with other pages that need bleeding. The top and bottom bleed are fine.
I tried changing many options in the print booklet dialogue box, even in the printer setup itself.
It may be that I have built the spreads wrong too I am still thinking if these 2 and 21 pages are necessary to exist in the file, since they are only blank. (though I had tried deleting them too, and the issue still exist)
I looked everywhere for a solution, maybe I don't know the right terms to search for this problem...
I also noticed that everything goes well while using the Export (to PDF) command.
The reason I'm using the booklet option is to have a document with the pages in an order ready for print and staples,
while maintaining the 1 to 22 sequence to use in the web.
It would be terrible creating another document and change the page numbers manually.
Hope somebody knows how to make it.

Hi Mikey!
My bad, sorry: actually there're 24 pages counting the covers and the 2 blank pages. (1-22 is the numbering for the inside content).
Even changing the page numbers won't correct the bleed.
Deciding to do something new, I isolated the pages, which first were Facing Pages.
After making a end with the spreads, the Booklet option seemed to function normally with the document bleed.
The problem is that I still would have to change the margins of the pages manually,
since they are not spreads anymore and now there's no inside/outside margins, but left/right instead.
If I could understand why I can't print the spreads as booklet would be so much better...

  • Print booklet in inDesign not printing correctly

I have been having issues with the print booklet feature of inDesign CS6. I am doing a half letter layout. the pages are laid out as the end user would see them. when I click on print booklet and set all of the print settings, everything is fine. the preview show the spreads correctly. example (the back cover and front cover are on one spread with the back being on the left). problem is, once I print, the back cover is replaced by a blank page and the back is then placed on spread 3. page 1 is then placed where the blank inside cover should be.   I mad a 12 page blank document and placed only page numbers on the pages and then printed booklet. the preview was correct and the printed output was also correct. as soon as I add any other elements to the pages, it no longer prints correctly.
this is extremely frustrating. I have wasted a day and a half trying to troubleshoot and get this to work. At this point I am going to lay out the pages the way I want them to print and then rearange them to view properly in PDF, either that or go back to using Quark. anybody know what may be causing this.

Wow, never would have thought you would have that option twice. That seemed to do the trick! Thank you so much. I owe you one!

  • CS6 - my print booklet presets keep disappearing

I just recently installed CS6 on my computer. I had to set up all of my print booklet presets again (I use them frequently to print booklets on our printer). I saved them, just as I had previously with CS5.
And for awhile, all was right with the world. Then today, I tried to print a booklet and all of my presets have disappeared.
On top of all that, I have noticed that some of the dialogs that I turned off (you know, the check mark that says "Don't ask me this again") have been reappearing as well, on occasion. I can't help but think these two are connected.
Any ideas? I also can't seem to find where these presets would be saved in the program folders so I could reload them in the Print Presets dialog box.

I didn't reset my preferences, I know that for a fact. And even if I did, I would've had to do it about half a dozen times since that's how often my dialog boxes keep being reset (not even talking about the print presets). I think my prefernces file keeps getting corrupted for some reason. I don't print booklets on a daily basis, maybe monthly, so this has probably happened at least 3 times since the beginning of this month, again just judging by the amount of times my dialogs reset.
And believe me, to reset my preferences without knowing it would be a feat indeed. It's hard enough for me to get my fingers on those buttons fast enough when I mean to reset preferences, I can't imagine doing it accidentally.
I've been reading some other posts on similar issues, I guess my best bet is to reset my print presets AGAIN and figure out how to save them as a copy somewhere safe that isn't in the InDesign folder.

  • Print Booklet with White Lines Issue

I have searched low and high on this forum and the internet for a solution, with no luck so far. I'm hoping that you InDesign gurus can help!
Whenever I use the 'Print Booklet' feature to generate a booklet from my InDesign CS5 brochure, the output has thin white lines in various areas that should NOT be there. The lines mostly show up in areas where I am using transparent PNG files, but there are no effects on the layers for these images.
This is an odd problem because:
In the original source while viewing it there are no lines
I can print to high resolution PDF using the standard print features and everything is 100% perfect, no lines
I can export each page as a high resolution JPG and everything is 100% perfect, no lines
The lines ONLY appear when I use the "Print Booklet" function. I have tried many things that have not worked:
Changing virtually every setting in Print Booklet to something else, lines are still there
Printing to a PDF directly from 'print booklet' with many different settings, lines still there
Printing to a PS file from 'print booklet', lines still there
Printing to an XPS file from 'print booklet', lines still there
I've put up an example showing you two different outputs. The one on the left is a regular JPG export, the one on the right is the Print Booklet export. Click on the images to see a larger example:
    http://www.seenbest-web-design.com/techclub/?p=1282
I've seen other people post about this problem elsewhere going as far back as CS3, but have never found a cause or a way to fix this. Some people have said 'it's just a rendering issue in Adobe Reader, and the lines will not actually appear when you have it printed'. However, when I go to print from my PDF file to my printer the lines are there in the output. They are also there when I print to a XPS document and view the image on the screen.
    Any ideas?

It's a transparency flattening artifact called Stitiching and basically, becasue youare printing to PDF you're up the creek. It only happens when transparency is flattened, but printing to PDF is a distiller function, and distiller doesn't support live transparency.
The best way around this, I think, would probably be to use an imposition script to impose a copy of the file, then export spreads from that using Acrobat 5 or higher compatibility, or, if you need to do this a lot, look into a PDF imposing plugin -- Quite Imposing gets good reviews here.
If you want to go withteh script, may favorite is Dave Saunders BuildBooklet javascript (http://pdsassoc.com/downloads/Buildbooklet.zip) but it has some limitations, no creep, 2-up saddle stitich only, and no objects crossing a spine. Slightly more sophisticated is his MakeBooklet script (Dave's CS3 Booklet Script) but it is still a lot less versatile than an impostion plugin.

  • CS6 on Mac OS 10.8 printing booklet

    Hi all,
I've just switched from WinXP/CS5.5 to Mac10.8/CS6 Design & web Premium and I have a problem with booklets.
I'm newbie on Mac so please excuse me if it's lame question.
When I'm doing a booklet (File -> Print Booklet), defining all my needs (Pages all, Booklet type, signature size etc.) CS is doing a Postcript file with a page size of original document with only right half of my booklet spread (not twice larger for a whole spread).
Printer is PostScript File - I cannot change to Adobe PDF nor change page size (in Booklet -> Printer settings -> Setup).
Moreover I have a dialog that there is no printers installed on my MacBook.
Mac system settings on Printes are empty.
I've tried to search on forum/google etc but found nothing on 10.8 printing problem. Only solutions I've found are on other versions of OS with different dialogs, check-boxes...
    Any hints?
    Pawel

I think problem is partly solved - based on http://forums.adobe.com/message/4767410. Now I can change page format with Postscript printer and Acrobat 9 PPD and print a booklet, then convert to pdf.
It's not good when you have a brand new hardware and software and you have to look for this kind of tricks to do quite simple and basic task.

  • Print booklet CS6 - print presets missing

We have a problem using the print booklet feature in CS6. We can't choose print presets, resulting in low res PDF files and low res print work. How can we solve this problem?

You need to go to the print setup though the Print Booklet dialog, and then to the Adobe PDF driver setings and change the preset under the PDF Settings tab.

  • Print Booklet in CS6

How can I print my 20 files as a single book. I read the Help's and they talk about Print Booklet under FILE. I find nothing about this in CS6.

    Thank you,
I did exactly as you suggested (my files are  PDF), in Browse, held Control key, did a multi select and saved as a single file.
Haven't tried to print yet but my files were originaly Scanned "as single PDF". Because I am new to CS6, when I tried to "clean the dirt" off each picture from the scan, I could find no way to save each picture back to a multi file.
So I saved them each as a single PDF and was going to print each one again, and then Scan each one again into a multi file. Then the dirt would have returned.
Thanks to you, now I can print a clean book.
    Again, thank you.

  • How do I save an 11x17 spread pdf with bleeds via print booklet (paginated) so I can send to FedEx to print?

I used to be able to Print Booklet and change the print setting to Save as postscript and Distill it but when I do that now the pages get cropped so they are no longer 12x18.

On the other hand ... the next time you do this, you might want to check out one of the imposition plug-ins for InDesign. I work for Sterling Computing, the maker of IDImposer, so that would be my choice, of course!
    Comparing the two alternatives:
    The PostScript-Distiller approach:
"I added a new Document Preset for oversize (File >Print Presets >Define...  make a new one this size:17.5833  11.5833)
Make sure your bleeds are already set (.125)
    File > Print Booklet
Select the Print Preset you just made
    click Print Settings...
Select the Print Preset you just made (yes, again)
    Printer: PostScript File
    PPD: Adobe PDF 9.0
    OK
    Print
    Save the .ps file
Open it with Distiller or Adobe Acrobat Pro
    Output to PDF"
Elapsed time: anywhere from 5 minutes to days or even weeks
    Chance of errors: moderate
    Ease of use: poor
Quality: flattened transparency, loss of managed color
    Vintage: late 1980's
    vs
    The IDImposer approach:
Verify that your Bleeds are set the way you want them, in File > Document Setup... > More Options
    Window > Extensions > IDImposer
    In IDImposer:
Set the imposition type (Saddle Stitch, probably) and desired Sheet size (18 x 12) in the IDImposer dialog
Click the "Impose" button, and watch the screen flash for a minute or so
Optional: Inspect the results in InDesign. Maybe do a quick proof print.
Export to PDF (from InDesign): File > Export... > Adobe PDF (print)
Elapsed time: typically under 2 minutes, for a 16 page booklet
    Quality: excellent

  • How can we access the 'print booklet' options in CS6 without a printer online?

I cannot access the print setup option in ‘print booklet’ in CS6 to change the paper/image orientation from portrait to landscape. I am trying to save it as a .ps file so I can take a print ready pdf to the printers. But the resulting pdf that saves now is cropping my A4 (to be A5 after stapled) 2up saddle stitched booklet. As in the spread stays landscape, but the A4 paper in portrait. Can anyone help me please?

  • Error printing booklet in CS6

InDesign Printing Error message appears when selecting 'Print Booklet'.  Says the Adobe Print Engine failed to output the data due to an unknown problem.  Never experienced any difficulties prior to upgrading from CS5.5 to CS6.  Help, anyone, please!

I am never involved in the printing of a document, I'm actually not even an official graphic designer I just end up doing amateaur work. I have the same problem. Just upgraded to CS6, need to print booklet for an in-house saddle-stitch document. I don't have a pdf printer on my good computer, it fails to print to pdf on my laptop unless it's interactive (not what I want) and even then I can't arrange it correctly for a saddle-stitch print job. On both computers, I'm getting the same error as CA. How can I get around this?

  • CS5 Print Booklet not working correctly - double sided issues

    Hi,
So I'm very familiar with Print Booklet and have done many books in the past double-sided, but somehow in the last few months, my InDesign is having trouble with page sequence when printing booklets. Instead of printing the odd spreads how it should ... I'm getting every other spread (within the 'odd only' or 'even only'). So for instance, in this one signature... I was supposed to get a print of the spread with pages 11 and 14, followed by the center of the signature which contained pages 12 and 13 on the left and right, respectively. What happened was 12/13 never printed but the spread before it did print, and the spread before THAT one didn't print. In the "preview" part on Print Booklet, it looks normal. It's just when it actually goes to print, it has a problem.
I've tried printing with my printer and on multiple others — happens everytime.
I'm trying to print a 24 page saddle-stitch booklet, double sided. I normally would print the odds first, flip the prints, and then print the evens. I have "print blank pages" and "print blank printer spreads" checked and everything seems to be normal... except it just keeps printing every other "odd" spread instead of all the odd spreads.
I'm going to be printing a 200+pg book soon with a lot of signatures and really don't want to have to manually organize them all... so any help would be gladly appreciated.
    my settings
I don't know if any of this even makes any sense... let me know. I'll do my best to explain it better. THANK YOU!

Your screen captures look correct, so the next step would be to go into the print driver (Click the Printer button, I believe) and check there to see if you've got it set to skip pages. After that, try trashing your prefs: Replace Your Preferences

  • Print Booklet in Indesign cs6 doesn't line up correctly

Has anyone had luck with the "Print Booklet" tool to proof a multi-page catalog? I tried printing double sided on a Canon ir4035 and found that the front and rear sides didn't line up.
I'm thinking of buying a nice new 12 x 18 color laser, and I want to make sure that "print booklet" really works on double sided printers before spending the money.
    Thanks,
    John

I suspect the problem is not InDesign, but the printer. Printers in this class just don't have the same sort of tolerances that a printing press can achieve for sheet-to-sheet and front-to-back registration. It's not unusual to see as much as 1/8 in overal drift through a print run. If the misalignment is fairly uniform you could consider printing to PDF (windows) or postscript and distilling (mac), then place the PDF into a new file and shift every other page to compensate.

  • Print Booklet issues: indd adds very unnecessary pages to my document when I try to "print booklet"?

I have no idea why this is happening, but it is driving me batty and makes zero sense and I need
I had a 30+ page document that was correctly booklet printing and added chapter start pages through the doc. I did not renumber or start sections on these when adding them, they are in the same section as most of the pages... Basically the document goes like this:
Front Cover -- Page A (recto)
    Blank -- Page B (verso)
    TOC -- Page 1 (recto)
    etc... etc...
Back Cover -- Page 52 (verso)
Suddenly, for some unknown reason that I have not been able to figure out, indesign has now decided that the front cover/back cover printer spread isn't that any longer. It prints a blank page on the printer spread for the front cover (keeping the cover page recto) and the back cover prints in a printer spread beside page 1. It being a function of the sectioning seems the likely culprit, but that sectioning hasn't changed from when I was printing it without the new added pages. I can't start the book pagination until the TOC (page 1), so it has to remain, as well...
Anybody have any ideas? Is there any way to force indd to not add these unnecessary pages? I have unchecked print blank pages and print blank spreads in all the print dialogues and also tried the opposite.

    bfvalenza wrote:

You need to include blank pages. I've never ever used Print Booklet (my experience is firmly rooted in traditional offset printing so I find ID's booklet option ... "a nice cutesy try") but I imagine Print Blank Spreads may also be necessary. However, it should be very unusual to have entire spreads blank.
From your story it's not really clear how many pages (including cover etc.) you have. If it's not a multiple of 4, InDesign will ALWAYS pad it with blank pages. That  is the only way to print as booklet.

  • Booklet Gutter Issue - When I print a booklet at 11x17, it causes a large white line down the center. But, when I try the same thing at 8.5x11 it prints side by side as it should. Help?

I have a 36 page booklet (each page is 8x5.5in). I have exported the booklet from InDesign as Pages. In Acrobat, when I select Print Booklet and 11x17 paper, it created a large white gutter down the center and the pages do not back up to each other.
I tried the same thing with 8.5x11 paper and they pages backed up to each other correctly with no white space down the center.
I tried again at 11x17 (size needed to print my booklet full size), and it's still causing the large white gutter. It's nearly half an inch or larger.
    Help is VERY appreciated!

  • Page tool prevents use of Print Booklet feature in InDesign CC2014

Having used the page tool at one time, but with all pages set to the correct size, the print booklet error message is that the booklet doesn't fit the current paper size.
There have been previous discussions, but I can't find one active. The discussion shows as answered, but not resolved. early 2012 this issue was reported as a bug and it is InDesign CC2014, 10.1.0.71 Build. This is the Cloud and this issue has not been resolved.
I went so far as to create a new document and take all the objects from one document and copy to the new document and the issue still exists. I created the document originally in InDesign CS6.I copy pasted contents into a clean document in CC2014. This is a valuable document that needs to be edited and used in the future.
Can someone please respond as to: if this bug that has been reported numerous times in the past, will it ever be fixed? Are we eliminating print booklet at some point so it isn't worth the investment? I don't get it. If there is another discussion open for this, I can't find it. Thanks.

That is not a correct answer. My question was not addressed, however, I very much appreciate the workaround. Go figure…. I think there is a feature in InDesign that if not working, should be removed by the software developers. [back to my question.]
I need to print proofs for a variety of people where I work. I don't want to explain my software is broken and they will need to proof single pages.
I did not know about the print booklet feature in Acrobat. That should suffice nicely.
I still didn't get my question answered, however, so please don't close this discussion.
