Print Booklet, can't select page size.

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to print an a4 page size booklet using the print booklet feature.
As I wan't to print full bleed, I am printing oversized a3.
It all looks fine in the preview, but when I open in distiller and export as a pdf the spreads are broken into pages.
Pretty much I would like the pdf as paginated spreads, instead of pages.
Pages are not in spreads
what it should look like (as a paginated spread)

My screen is from CS5.5,
In the Print Booklet dialog there is a Print Settings button wherein you would define the paper and orientation.

How can I see page size of the open document?

  • How can I select paper size while in print preview ?

I have a printer with four different paper trays, and each one is loaded with different size of paper: A3, A4, Legal, envelopes. When I use IE 11, I can easy go to print preview, click on page setup (little gear icon), select paper size , margins, etc.. there, and when i hit OK, the page is adjusted to the settings I selected and its ready to print, and printer selects the proper size of the paper automatically
In Firefox v32, I can almost do this same, but I'm stuck with printing only on A4 style paper, as I don't see where to select the paper I want to print on !
I tried to select A3 and legal paper in the printer driver, but then firefox used the selected paper, but printout on the paper came out as set to A4 size, and rest of the page was empty ! Also I was not able to see the page preview of the selected paper either. How do I then print on other size papers than a4 ?
I found only one workaround which does not suits my needs but works: First: Go to printer driver and select legal or A3 paper as default, and then open firefox. If I do that i can print on any paper I select, but thats a horrible workaround, because then I often forget to change the default paper size back inside the printer driver, and i print my documents on wrong paper, wasting paper, ink and time...
Please let me know if there is a way to fix this printing feature somehow.
    Thanks.

    MichalB,
Sorry, IMO there is no real "fix" for what you are experiencing. Printer prefs set or changed in the operating system won't affect Firefox printing ''[IMO, either ancient code in Firefox or a "cross-browser thing".]'' Firefox has its' own settings for prefs and it defaults to the "last used" for all printer preference setting. And there is no way to set a pref as "use now and return to my defaults after this print job is completed".
As you have found out, there is no way of changing paper size from the Print Preview screen. Other prefs - Margins & Header/Footer can be changed via Page Setup and you can see changes in the Preview window, but not for paper size. As ''CoryMH'' mentioned, '''paper size''' is selected thru what called the "native print dialog" box using the '''Properties''' button which shows a window provided by your printer software for the Printer which is selected in the "native print dialog" window, and accessed after you hit the Print button in the Print Preview screen.
Problem is that you can't '''"preview"''' what is going to be printed when you change paper size. If you go back to Print Preview without printing from the "native print dialog" the change for Paper Size isn't saved for viewing in Print Preview!
IMO, it would be nice if Firefox recognized each "tray" as a separate printer, so that a user could set Margins & Header/Footer prefs AND paper size per tray. IOW, a feature sort of writing a completely new print module that would reflect "today's" environment with multiple tray printers; rather than to continue using the print module that was built by Netscape back in '94 - '95, which we are stuck with almost 20 years later.

  • Can't select page range to print

When I use the printer system dialog box, print all pages is the only option.  Print selection, pages, or current page are all greyed out.  Have latest software download installed (printer driver)

    Hello @LimpingSkunk!
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
I would be happy to provide some help regarding the HP Photosmart C5550 and selecting pages during the print job.  You had mentioned you only get the option to print all pages.  Does this happen when printing any multiple page document or does it happen from specific programs?
I understand you have the most up to date drivers but the first thing I recommend is to uninstall the HP software. After the uninstall is complete it would be a good idea to perform a disk cleanup in the computer. A disk cleanup will improve computer performance and clear temporary files that may cause issues during the install of software. Once the disk cleanup is complete you should restart the computer and re-install the HP software.

To perform a disk cleanup click here: Performing a Disk Cleanup
To download the HP software click here: HP Photosmart C5500 Full Feature Software and Driver
Please post back and let me know if that worked for you!

  • How do I "Print Booklet" with just odd pages and even pages for duplexing . . options disabled

I have InDesign CS5.5 on a Windows 7 64-bit machine hooked to a Xerox 7750 printer.  I have created a 8.5x11 portrait document and trying to create a booklet on 12x18 sheets.
I need to print duplex manually and so I need to print just the odd spreads and then the even spreads.
I have printed to Adobe PDF and printed from my created PDF file and have it working, but I want to know why InDesign won't let me do it.  When I click "File > Print Booklet > Print Settings" then it shows the Print Dialog box with the Pages section, which includes the Sequence that normally would allow me to do Odd Pages or Even Pages, but it is disabled.  Why?  I can define Print Presets and I can choose Odd Pages, but when I choose that in the Preset box it does not show anything, everything is still disabled.
Anybody have any idea of why it is disabled?  Is it my printer driver?

I too was very frustrated after upgrading to indesign cs5.5 and the latest LION OS on my new MAC.  I missed the odd/even page selection in the print dialog box within Indesign.  I tried about everything and found little of value in various forums.  But I did find a workable solution that makes since in terms of Apple's OS.
My objective is to "impose" my document and also end up with a file that I can just print again and again without "ripping" in the InDesign Print Booklet Dialog.
Here is the quick version of what to do.  I am not including every little step with pictures. =)  (I can if there is interest.)
    1. create your document
    2. Print Booklet
    3. At the first dialog box, just ignore the printer in print preset (you will come back to this) and go to the 2-up perfect bound option and select 16 page signatures.  This will impose 2-up on 4 physical pieces of paper printed both sides.  So 16 of your document pages printed duplex on 4 physical sheets of paper.  It would be nice to then just select the printer and scaling, etc. and the option to print even pages, flip over and then print odd pages but that ain't an option.  If you have different needs, do the math and input the correct numbers before proceeding
    4. Click on Print Settings  to pull up a second dialog box.
    5. Select for Printer PostScript File (not your printer)  Also select for PPD your printer or Adobe PDF 9 if you have that installed.  Don't obsess on this just pick your Printer for the PPD.
    6. Select 1 copy and All Pages while in the General Tab
    7. Select the Setup Tab Here is where you put in the actual physical paper size that you are going to print your document on. Don't scale to fit.  You must do this.  If you feel the need, check out all the tabs and options but for now, you are just trying to get an output file.  You probably do want to select CENTER for page position in this same setup tab.
    8. Hit OK whcih will return you to the original dialog.  Check when you return to be sure that at the top Printer is populated with PostScript File.  Click on Print and give the thing a name and a location to save at the resulting dialog.
Breathe as you are almost home.  You have sucessfully created a file that can be called up again and again without opening InDesign. (albeit, a postscript file but not a problem)
    Now,
    1. Double click on this new file (it will have a .ps extention) or just open it in your PREVIEW (apple supplied utility)   Preview is where you accomplish the even and odd page objective.
    2. Preview will show you a short progress dialog while it rips this postscript file into a PDF.
    3. Click on PRINT
    4. Select your printer, page range, select the Paper Size (again not document size  but  the size sheet that you are printing the 2-up , imposed (booklet) document on. If not in the selection dialog, then use the custom option to create it (custom paper size) and give it a name.
    5. Click on SCALE and insert 100% in place of the weird number that it will insert for you.  You will then see your document correctly displayed in the sidebar preview window.
    6.  OK, now what you have been waiting for. Click on the box that says Preview (the active window) and select Paper Handling from the drop-down and select from Pages to Print the coveted odd or even page selection.  You can also do other things that should have been back at the InDesign print dialog but are now gone.  Explore. Enjoy.
    7.  You will have to work out your own work flow about reverse or no reverse order and how to flip, etc. But you will be working with something predictable at this point.
    8.  Since this has been ripped into a PDF , you might as well Click on the PDF button and click on save as a PDF at this point to save that postscript to PDF rip.   Also print using PREVIEW for the newly created PDF file next time as you will not have to learn a bunch of new dialogs and be frustrated all over again.
I am now back in business printing the book blocks for my handbound journals.

  • Print to different printers by page size

Hi, i have a problem,  i need to print documents that have inside a lot of  different size pages(a4,A3,a1,A2,A0, a4x3 e.t.c.). Is it possible automaticly somehow to redirect a4,A3 pages to one printer and a1,A2,A0, a4x3 e.t.c. to other while printing whole file. I think this function will be useful in next acrobat version.
something like this, dewading A3 to two A4 not needed
    to acrobat team:
Did you thought about function that can make templates to printer like it made in AUTOCAD ? (*.pc3 files). It will be usefull when printer driver is not possible to save alot of page size formats. Autodesk fix this problem by making templates(like virtual printers) through that is possible to print, and in that is possible to save alot of page size formats that don't have original printer driver. It will be great if acrobat could use AUTOCAD *.pc3 templates to print through.

    Hi,
Normally Outlook rules only print via the default printer, selecting the printers is beyond the control of Outlook build-in rules.
If you have a rule written via a script, I suggest you post the question and the script to MSDN forum, in which you can get script specific support:

  • Cannot print my pdf's the printer say its the wrong page size?  Powerpoint Word Excel are all fine

Every time I try to print a pdf my printer now says No paper-Custom Size.  It used to work fine and other programs work fine.

I had this problem.  The error message said that this document cannot be printed and after clikcking ok, another message said that the page wasn't selected or something like that.  I went to Programs and Features in Vista Control Panel and deleted Adobe Reader 9.  Then I rebooted and went to adobe.com and installed the 9.1 version.  Now, I can print my documents.  I hope this helps you!

  • How to select page size and fit to page size?

i am reading documentation here and feeling like a total dolt.
can someone please remind me how i get my spreadsheet to print to my second printer and to get it to print in tray 1 with the 11 x 17 paper and how i get the spreadsheet to scale to fit this page size?
i can't figure out if i am supposed to select the paper size first in the PRINT dialog but if i do this i can't figure out how to scale it and if i scale it i can't figure out how to get it off of 8 x 11 paper.

    hi wayne.
i think you have a level of expertise with this software that let's you answer a question in a way that i don't understand. either that or perhaps as a new user my questions are not clear to you.
can you tell me if it is possible to create a SETTING that will let me open a document that is SENT TO ME so that i don't have to run through all these steps just to do what i am asking to do in the title of this post? i mean, i am going to print this explanation out so i can refer to it in the future but i don't want to have to go through all these steps every time someone sends me a document.
i also don't want to have to ask them to format the document as a pdf at 11 x 17 and 12 x 18 every time they send me something.
    does that question make sense?
AFAIK your answer is indicating that i can set up a TEMPLATE that will let me /create/ new documents by using this template and what i am asking is if there is a way to print a document to 11 x 17 or to 12 x 18 with PRESETS as i do in Preview....
    can you help?
    THANKS!

I'm using the pages app on an ipad 2 which has limited templates. Can I change the size of a document before I print it as all seem to be A4?

  • CS4 printing does not list tabloid page size

    Mac OS: Snow Leopard
    Printer: HP Deskjet 9300
    Driver: Gutenberg v.5.2.3
I'm attempting to print a picture that is 11 x 17 inches.  When I choose page size, the choices are enormous but oddly enough there is no 11 x 17.  I went ahead and customized this size and highlighted it.  However, when the picture prints, it only prints to an 8.5 x 11 page size.
    What am I doing wrong?
    franny

    Hi Chris,
    Thanks for the info.
I deleted the printer and reinstalled the HP Deskjet 9300 software that came with the printer.
A couple of things: in the printer setup there is a selection of available drivers to choose from.  One of them is HP Deskjet 9300 - Gutenprint v5.2.3.  So this is the only driver choice with Snow Leopard.
I then went to the HP website and it turns out that they have stopped updating product support and drivers for earlier models, causing much anger with HP's customers.  So I shot off an email to the CEO of HP, Mr. Hurd. (a lot of good that'll do)
So my printer is useless in CS4.
Won't purchase another HP printer again.
    Thanks again,
    franny

  • How can I select pages to print from a Word document using the report generation 'print report' vi?

I have researched the knowledge base and found:
Printing A Range of Pages or Number of Copies of a Report Using the Report Generation Toolkit in LabVIEW.
This seems to be from a previous version of LV. I am using LV2010. The instructions given do not match up with the current vi. The information did provide a tip and drilling down into  the vi I was able to insert the from/to page numbers at the printout invoke method, however this prevents the print function from working in that it can no longer find the default printer.
    The error message is:
    Error 1015 occurred at NI_ReportGenerationToolkit.lvlib:Word_Print.vi -> NI_Word.lvclassrint Report.vi ->
error 1015 is: Printer is not responding. Check printer configuration.
Any ideas how I can make the modification to print, for example, pages 24 through 29 out of a 32 page word document?
    Thanks,
    Chris

Hello, take a look at this article. Unfortunately the Generate Report Get Data to Modify.vi was remove since RGT 1.1.3 release. That being said, we can try to find a workaround. See "Configuring a Printer Through the Windows Dialog in LabVIEW", open the GetPrinterSettings.vi, at the PrinterSettings property node you can select the from/to page. I hope this helps.

  • I can't get my pdf printing screen to accept a page size change to an archetectual D.

I can't get this new version to accept a 24 x 36 arch D page. I've always used reader for pdf files to plot here at work, but since the new download, its not performing at all.
I have no problem plotting from my autocad program, just plotting full size pdf drawings.
If anyone can help I would apprieciate greatly.

Just so everyone knows, I un-installed reader 10 and re-installed 9.2 and my plotter is back working perfectly. there must be something in the newest version that make plotting a problem, maybe not printing with normal size paper.

  • How do I print a spread with multiple page sizes?

    Hello fellow designers!!!!
I'm trying to make a production dummy by printing double sided. My document has an extra fold on the outer edge (see attached image).
I want to print 'D11-D12' as one spread with the reverse side as 'D13-12', so that I can simply fold in the outer edge and spiral bind the spine.
When I input the range 'D11-D12, D13-12' the printer prints 'D11' on one side and 'D12' on the reverse same with 'D13' and '12'.
How do I get this spread happening the way I want? I'd appreciate any help I can get as time is mot my friend on this one!
    Thanks,
    Gordon

Sandee, I think you're onto something here. I've managed to separate the spreads from the spine as you suggested, however, I'm still getting the same result. The preview in the print dialogue is exactly what I want, yet the printout itself still print 'D11' on the back of 'D12'. I'm under a mountain of failed printouts! In the end I gave up and just taped the extra fold to the dummy manually.
I'd love to figure this out though for future use, so any more input would be divine!
Thank you so much for helping out!
