Print booklet CS6 - print presets missing

We have a problem using the print booklet feature in CS6. We can't choose print presets, resulting in low res PDF files and low res print work. How can we solve this problem?

You need to go to the print setup though the Print Booklet dialog, and then to the Adobe PDF driver setings and change the preset under the PDF Settings tab.

  • Why does "Print Booklet" not print all the files in book?

My new Indesign CS4 will not let me do what I was able to do easily with Pagemaker 6 and Indesign CS2.  When I go to “Print Booklet”, the program will not print the entire book, but only whatever file is check marked at the bottom of the WINDOW tab on the Menu Bar. I have tried with the files in the BOOK Menu selected and not selected. No difference. I have tried every way I can think of to add and link the files indicated in the Book Menu to the actual files. Each time the same. I have reinstalled the program. Still the same. I am using a Mac PowerBook G4 with OS X 10.4.11.  Your ideas and help will be greatly appreciated..........Richard

Sorry, Print Booklet simply isn't designed to be used with multiple files. You'll notice it isn't available in the Book Panel menu.
You could export the entire book to PDF, then place the PDF in a new document and use Print Booklet to print that.

  • InDesign CS5.5 Print Booklet Only Printing Even Pages

I'm having an issue with print booklet in Indesign CS5.5. I haven't used it before, so I'm not too familiar with it, but here's my problem:
I'm printing out the document (comprised of letter-size facing pages) as a PostScript file, then converting to PDF with Distiller. When I preview the document in the print booklet dialogue box, it looks good, and shows all the pages facing one another in the correct order. But when I print the PostScript file and use Distiller to convert it to a PDF, all I get in my final file are the even pages (the "left" pages).
I'm trying to print my file on tabloid paper so that my booklet ends up letter size. But the pages that print booklet is sending out are only letter sized. It's like somehow in the process, the odd pages are cut off and I only end up with letter-sized even pages.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? How can I get the pages to end up on Tabloid size paper and not lose any pages?
Any help you might be able to offer would be highly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Landon
    System Info:
    Mac OSX 10.7, Lion
    Adobe InDesign CS5.5

Sounds like the file is not set to tabloid in the postscript so it's cropping off the right hand side. Printing to postscript for distiller is pretty complex on Mac these days. You need to use the AdobePDF ppd, not device independent, and I don't believe it's installed anywhere by default. • Print booklet feature -- printing on back side

Hi. I posted earlier about a playbill I'm working on. I took an ID tutorial, but it didn't address the problems I'm encountering. I'm using ID 5.0 (CS3) on a MAcbook pro running Leopard.
The playbrill is 12 pages. I'm printing using 'print booklet'. Page one of the playbill prints on the right half of the first peice of paper and page 12 prints on the left half. Page two of the playbill ends up on the left half of the second peice of printed paper, page 11 on the right half, and so on.
BUT...what we need is for Indesign to spit out the first peice of paper, with page 1 and 12, and then to NOT PRING PAGES 2 and 11, so that we can turn the paper with 1 and 12 on it and feed it back into the machine, which will then print pages 2 and 11 on THE BACK, so that every peice of paper has four pages on it. And so on with the rest of the bill.
Is there a way to do this, or some other protocol for dealing with cases where you are printing on front and back?
    Thanks in advance for help.

  • Setting compression and resolution in Print Booklet

I'm testing Print Booklet for InDesign CS6 on Windows XP, using Acrobat 8.
I can't find the settings for compression (none) and resolution (288ppi) in the InDesign
    dialogue.
I can set these parameters directly in the parameter list for the 'printer' Adobe PDF,
but these actual settings are not honored. Especially I'm getting always JPEGs instead
    of no compression.

Peter, according to your post #3 one might assume that Print Booklet is
working as expected, if the operator follows some simple rules.
No, it doesn't, but I agree to your statement
Print Booklet to PDF isn't really a recommended workflow
I've updated CS6 for the newest state, it's now ID 8.01.
There are a couple of problems, using Print Booklet for 'printing' as PDF:
    a) Settings for Resolution and Compression cannot be found in InDesign dialogues.
External settings in the 'printer' Adobe PDF are ignored.
    b) Some Encapsulated PostScript components are considered as buggy, though
Export to PDF without Print Booklet for the same pages is flawless, and furtheron
these components themselves are correctly interpreted by other programs
        (MathType, Photoshop, PSAlter...).
    This is the error log:
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
    %%[Page: 1]%%
    %%[Page: 2]%%
%%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: makefont ]%%
    Stack:
    [448.0 0.0 0.0 -448.0 0.0 0.0]
    -file-
    -mark-
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Obviously, Print Booklet uses the somewhat outdated workflow via PostScript
and Distiller. This is not generally wrong (worked pretty good with PageMaker),
    but here it fails.
Now a few words about IDImposer, which I had tested:
This program creates an imposed version of an InDesign file by generating one PDF
for each page. These pages should be uncompressed and not downsampled, which
is unnecessary for InBooklet SE, where we have only links to already existing
components. The new ID doc contains one PDF per page in the imposed page structure.
Therefore nothing is editable by InDesign. The following Export to PDF leads normally
to correct documents with working Links for URLs (garbled in just one case).
This is obviously not an optimal substitute for InBooklet SE.
    Thanks for the discussion.

  • CS5 print booklet 4-up

Is there a way of useing print booklet for printing 4 pages on a spread?
I have an A5 booklet that I want to print on A3 and then Cut the A3 to 4.
What is the best way of doing this?
    Thanks

Lets figure out the pattern that you are trying to achieve on your n-up sheet, becasue that will determine the preliminary steps. If you want just n copies of the same page you don't need Print Booklet at all, but if you want multiple copies of an imposed spread you do.
If you need Print Booklet, you need to print to Postscript file and distill (Mac Snow Leopard or later, and see InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Acrobat’s Adobe PDF Printer Replaced in Snow Leopard) or print to the Adobe PDF Printer with Windows. If you don't need imposed spreads, you can work with the original .indd file.
Download Scott Zanelli's Multipage Placer script from InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Zanelli Releases MultiPageImporter for Importing both PDF and INDD Files. If you don't know how to install a script, you can check How to install scripts in InDesign | InDesignSecrets among other places.
When you run the script it's fairly self-explanatory, but it will ask you for a file name, and for how you want to position and scale the pages in your new document. Run it as many times as you need  to fill your page, or use step and repeat on each page to add additional copies (running the script will be faster, most of the time).

  • Printing Booklet

    Hi there,
I have been having this issue for quite awhile now.
I am trying to pdf reader spreads and I can get it to go to the PDF printer window and it looks like it's working and it says opening in distiller and then it looks like it finishes, but I cannot find the PDF.
I don't know where it goes or if it really does anything.
I just cleaned off my com.adobe.indesign.plist
I don't know what else to do
If anyone could help me that would be great.
    Thanks

There's not a lot to understand at the basic level. You no longer have the PDF printer so you can't use Print Booklet to print directly to PDF. One work around is to print to a Postscript file, then distill in a second step (and that might be somewhat confusing). Another is to use an imposition script in ID to rearrange the pages, then export the file as spreads to PDF.
I recommend two different scripts for that (both by Dave Saunders) that handle things slightly differently. Both are intended for simple 2-up saddle stitch booklets with no creep.
If there are no elements that cross the spine on a spread you should be able to use http://pdsassoc.com/downloads/Buildbooklet.zip
It's very fast and just makes a copy of the file, then shuffles the pages into the correct order for printing. Do an ordinary export to PDF using the settings of your choice, but be sure to check the "spreads" box.
The other works with stuff that crosses the spine, and if memory serves it makes the spreads so you don't need to check the box on export. It works by placing pages from the original file into a new file. You'll find it at Dave's CS3 Booklet Script
There is a ton of discussion about this here on the forum, including other recommendations if you need to do this a lot, if you do a search.

  • Weird Error Printing Booklet (PDF)

    Please, can anyone help me?
I've always used the Print Booklet function and it always worked fine.
One day i opened a file that was made on Windows, on the Mac at work and when tried to Print Booklet, it printed on InDesign and then it went to Acrobat PDF Printer... it showed all the process and it said it was done, but no file appeared....
After hours and hours of research on Internet and trying to change settings to see if it finally worked, i got nothing.
Then one time when the printer was printing the file, i paused it. When I did this, the file showed up... incomplete, but it showed up... If I let the printer print until the end, nothing shows up. Weird and bizarre....
Does anyone ever had the same problem??
    Please help!

  • CS5 print booklet

I have documents that were created in CS3 and printed perfectly that now won't print as a booklet in CS5. My most recent document appears correctly on screen but pulls various pages together to print rather than organising itself to print as it appears on screen. The document is 36 pages long.
When printing booklet it prints page 1 with 36, 2 with 35, 3 with 34 etc rather than shuffling and placing the pages together as they appear on the speads on the screen 2 with 3, 3 with 4 etc.
Does anyone know what is causing this and how to rectify it?

That's exactly the way Print Booklet is intended to function -- it creates an imposed print ready for binding -- unless you choose the "consecutive" imposition. If you want to view readers' spreads for proofing, you don't need to use Print Booklet, just check the "Spreads" box in the print dialog.

  • Print booklet spreads

Couldn't find any recent discussion on this.  I am using CS4 on MAC 10.6.  I print my own booklets for my quilt pattern business, these are half letter pages on letter size paper.  I use the "print booklet" feature to print the spreads and then run them off on my copier.  The issue is that sometimes I find an error on ONE page and there is no choice in printing spreads, just pages in the "print booklet" in CS4.  When trying to print certain pages, you end up with changing the spreads.  My question is:
In CS5.5 has this feature changed or are you still unable to print spreads after choosing "print booklet?"

Print booklet has not changed. I recommend printing to PDF for ths kind of work, then you can pick any spread you want. or exchange pages with the original PDF.

  • CS6 - my print booklet presets keep disappearing

I just recently installed CS6 on my computer. I had to set up all of my print booklet presets again (I use them frequently to print booklets on our printer). I saved them, just as I had previously with CS5.
And for awhile, all was right with the world. Then today, I tried to print a booklet and all of my presets have disappeared.
On top of all that, I have noticed that some of the dialogs that I turned off (you know, the check mark that says "Don't ask me this again") have been reappearing as well, on occasion. I can't help but think these two are connected.
Any ideas? I also can't seem to find where these presets would be saved in the program folders so I could reload them in the Print Presets dialog box.

I didn't reset my preferences, I know that for a fact. And even if I did, I would've had to do it about half a dozen times since that's how often my dialog boxes keep being reset (not even talking about the print presets). I think my prefernces file keeps getting corrupted for some reason. I don't print booklets on a daily basis, maybe monthly, so this has probably happened at least 3 times since the beginning of this month, again just judging by the amount of times my dialogs reset.
And believe me, to reset my preferences without knowing it would be a feat indeed. It's hard enough for me to get my fingers on those buttons fast enough when I mean to reset preferences, I can't imagine doing it accidentally.
I've been reading some other posts on similar issues, I guess my best bet is to reset my print presets AGAIN and figure out how to save them as a copy somewhere safe that isn't in the InDesign folder.

  • CS6 on Mac OS 10.8 printing booklet

    Hi all,
I've just switched from WinXP/CS5.5 to Mac10.8/CS6 Design & web Premium and I have a problem with booklets.
I'm newbie on Mac so please excuse me if it's lame question.
When I'm doing a booklet (File -> Print Booklet), defining all my needs (Pages all, Booklet type, signature size etc.) CS is doing a Postcript file with a page size of original document with only right half of my booklet spread (not twice larger for a whole spread).
Printer is PostScript File - I cannot change to Adobe PDF nor change page size (in Booklet -> Printer settings -> Setup).
Moreover I have a dialog that there is no printers installed on my MacBook.
Mac system settings on Printes are empty.
I've tried to search on forum/google etc but found nothing on 10.8 printing problem. Only solutions I've found are on other versions of OS with different dialogs, check-boxes...
    Any hints?
    Pawel

I think problem is partly solved - based on http://forums.adobe.com/message/4767410. Now I can change page format with Postscript printer and Acrobat 9 PPD and print a booklet, then convert to pdf.
It's not good when you have a brand new hardware and software and you have to look for this kind of tricks to do quite simple and basic task.

  • InDesign CS6 and difficulty printing booklet

I am having difficulty printing Indesign Cs6 booklet by exporting to pdf, with first and last page as a spread. Also, when I use the booklet printing as i did with CS4, and CS5, I get an error that I don't have permissions for pdf embedding of the fonts I'm using, which are all Adobe purchased fonts.  Any ideas?
    thank you,

Print Booklet is an entirely differnt function from export to PDF. Perhaps you should give us some more information about what you are doing, and your OS.

  • Booklet not printing in spreads in CS6

Print booklet's spread option is grayed out and the 12-page document is print as 6 pages even though the preview shows pages 12 and 1 as a spread. The final pdf file from Distiller is a 6-page document with pg 12 as as the first page and pg 1 is missing. Any hint as to why this is happening. How can I get the booklet to print as 6 spreads. HELP!!!

So does that mean you have a new printer driver?
It's not rare that some printers don't get along well with ID, especially when using advanced features. The best workaround has always been to export PDF and print that instead. Frankly, I tend to do that even though my printer works just fine with ID. In my experience it usually ends up being faster to process the PDF in the printer than to process the .indd file.
