Print Booklet in CS6

How can I print my 20 files as a single book. I read the Help's and they talk about Print Booklet under FILE. I find nothing about this in CS6.

Thank you,
I did exactly as you suggested (my files are  PDF), in Browse, held Control key, did a multi select and saved as a single file.
Haven't tried to print yet but my files were originaly Scanned "as single PDF". Because I am new to CS6, when I tried to "clean the dirt" off each picture from the scan, I could find no way to save each picture back to a multi file.
So I saved them each as a single PDF and was going to print each one again, and then Scan each one again into a multi file. Then the dirt would have returned.
Thanks to you, now I can print a clean book.
Again, thank you.

  • Error printing booklet in CS6

InDesign Printing Error message appears when selecting 'Print Booklet'.  Says the Adobe Print Engine failed to output the data due to an unknown problem.  Never experienced any difficulties prior to upgrading from CS5.5 to CS6.  Help, anyone, please!

I am never involved in the printing of a document, I'm actually not even an official graphic designer I just end up doing amateaur work. I have the same problem. Just upgraded to CS6, need to print booklet for an in-house saddle-stitch document. I don't have a pdf printer on my good computer, it fails to print to pdf on my laptop unless it's interactive (not what I want) and even then I can't arrange it correctly for a saddle-stitch print job. On both computers, I'm getting the same error as CA. How can I get around this?

  • How can we access the 'print booklet' options in CS6 without a printer online?

I cannot access the print setup option in ‘print booklet’ in CS6 to change the paper/image orientation from portrait to landscape. I am trying to save it as a .ps file so I can take a print ready pdf to the printers. But the resulting pdf that saves now is cropping my A4 (to be A5 after stapled) 2up saddle stitched booklet. As in the spread stays landscape, but the A4 paper in portrait. Can anyone help me please?

  • CS6 on Mac OS 10.8 printing booklet

    Hi all,
I've just switched from WinXP/CS5.5 to Mac10.8/CS6 Design & web Premium and I have a problem with booklets.
I'm newbie on Mac so please excuse me if it's lame question.
When I'm doing a booklet (File -> Print Booklet), defining all my needs (Pages all, Booklet type, signature size etc.) CS is doing a Postcript file with a page size of original document with only right half of my booklet spread (not twice larger for a whole spread).
Printer is PostScript File - I cannot change to Adobe PDF nor change page size (in Booklet -> Printer settings -> Setup).
Moreover I have a dialog that there is no printers installed on my MacBook.
Mac system settings on Printes are empty.
I've tried to search on forum/google etc but found nothing on 10.8 printing problem. Only solutions I've found are on other versions of OS with different dialogs, check-boxes...
    Any hints?
    Pawel

I think problem is partly solved - based on http://forums.adobe.com/message/4767410. Now I can change page format with Postscript printer and Acrobat 9 PPD and print a booklet, then convert to pdf.
It's not good when you have a brand new hardware and software and you have to look for this kind of tricks to do quite simple and basic task.

  • Print booklet CS6 - print presets missing

We have a problem using the print booklet feature in CS6. We can't choose print presets, resulting in low res PDF files and low res print work. How can we solve this problem?

You need to go to the print setup though the Print Booklet dialog, and then to the Adobe PDF driver setings and change the preset under the PDF Settings tab.

  • CS6 - my print booklet presets keep disappearing

I just recently installed CS6 on my computer. I had to set up all of my print booklet presets again (I use them frequently to print booklets on our printer). I saved them, just as I had previously with CS5.
And for awhile, all was right with the world. Then today, I tried to print a booklet and all of my presets have disappeared.
On top of all that, I have noticed that some of the dialogs that I turned off (you know, the check mark that says "Don't ask me this again") have been reappearing as well, on occasion. I can't help but think these two are connected.
Any ideas? I also can't seem to find where these presets would be saved in the program folders so I could reload them in the Print Presets dialog box.

I didn't reset my preferences, I know that for a fact. And even if I did, I would've had to do it about half a dozen times since that's how often my dialog boxes keep being reset (not even talking about the print presets). I think my prefernces file keeps getting corrupted for some reason. I don't print booklets on a daily basis, maybe monthly, so this has probably happened at least 3 times since the beginning of this month, again just judging by the amount of times my dialogs reset.
And believe me, to reset my preferences without knowing it would be a feat indeed. It's hard enough for me to get my fingers on those buttons fast enough when I mean to reset preferences, I can't imagine doing it accidentally.
I've been reading some other posts on similar issues, I guess my best bet is to reset my print presets AGAIN and figure out how to save them as a copy somewhere safe that isn't in the InDesign folder.

  • Print Booklet Bleed Issue in CS6

When I try to print the file as a booklet, the left and right bleeding of some pages does not appear on themselves; however, they appear on the next spread.
The spread goes like this, with some objects exceeding the pages for bleeding:
When I print as a booklet, the preview goes like this:
Front and Back Covers; their left and right bleed do not show...
...but instead, they reach the next spread. These blue stripes in the left and right are the continuation of the covers above.
And it keeps happening with other pages that need bleeding. The top and bottom bleed are fine.
I tried changing many options in the print booklet dialogue box, even in the printer setup itself.
It may be that I have built the spreads wrong too I am still thinking if these 2 and 21 pages are necessary to exist in the file, since they are only blank. (though I had tried deleting them too, and the issue still exist)
I looked everywhere for a solution, maybe I don't know the right terms to search for this problem...
I also noticed that everything goes well while using the Export (to PDF) command.
The reason I'm using the booklet option is to have a document with the pages in an order ready for print and staples,
while maintaining the 1 to 22 sequence to use in the web.
It would be terrible creating another document and change the page numbers manually.
Hope somebody knows how to make it.

    Hi Mikey!
My bad, sorry: actually there're 24 pages counting the covers and the 2 blank pages. (1-22 is the numbering for the inside content).
Even changing the page numbers won't correct the bleed.
Deciding to do something new, I isolated the pages, which first were Facing Pages.
After making a end with the spreads, the Booklet option seemed to function normally with the document bleed.
The problem is that I still would have to change the margins of the pages manually,
since they are not spreads anymore and now there's no inside/outside margins, but left/right instead.
If I could understand why I can't print the spreads as booklet would be so much better...

  • Print Booklet in Indesign cs6 doesn't line up correctly

Has anyone had luck with the "Print Booklet" tool to proof a multi-page catalog? I tried printing double sided on a Canon ir4035 and found that the front and rear sides didn't line up.
I'm thinking of buying a nice new 12 x 18 color laser, and I want to make sure that "print booklet" really works on double sided printers before spending the money.
    Thanks,
    John

I suspect the problem is not InDesign, but the printer. Printers in this class just don't have the same sort of tolerances that a printing press can achieve for sheet-to-sheet and front-to-back registration. It's not unusual to see as much as 1/8 in overal drift through a print run. If the misalignment is fairly uniform you could consider printing to PDF (windows) or postscript and distilling (mac), then place the PDF into a new file and shift every other page to compensate.

  • Page tool prevents use of Print Booklet feature in InDesign CC2014

Having used the page tool at one time, but with all pages set to the correct size, the print booklet error message is that the booklet doesn't fit the current paper size.
There have been previous discussions, but I can't find one active. The discussion shows as answered, but not resolved. early 2012 this issue was reported as a bug and it is InDesign CC2014, 10.1.0.71 Build. This is the Cloud and this issue has not been resolved.
I went so far as to create a new document and take all the objects from one document and copy to the new document and the issue still exists. I created the document originally in InDesign CS6.I copy pasted contents into a clean document in CC2014. This is a valuable document that needs to be edited and used in the future.
Can someone please respond as to: if this bug that has been reported numerous times in the past, will it ever be fixed? Are we eliminating print booklet at some point so it isn't worth the investment? I don't get it. If there is another discussion open for this, I can't find it. Thanks.

That is not a correct answer. My question was not addressed, however, I very much appreciate the workaround. Go figure…. I think there is a feature in InDesign that if not working, should be removed by the software developers. [back to my question.]
I need to print proofs for a variety of people where I work. I don't want to explain my software is broken and they will need to proof single pages.
I did not know about the print booklet feature in Acrobat. That should suffice nicely.
I still didn't get my question answered, however, so please don't close this discussion.

  • No Adobe PDF or EPS available in InDesign "Print Booklet?"

I am  running Windows 7 and  have InDesign CS6 and Acrobat X Pro installed. I need to save a multi-page document in booklet form to a PDF to send to a service provider. When I try to use the “Print Booklet” routine there are no presets for Adobe PDF or EPS. A non-Adobe PDF creator that I have installed does show up but it is inadequate for this job. Exporting the document to Adobe PDF works just fine. but that doesn't impose the proper page sequence, Can’t seem to find an answer anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure that the PDF virtual printer is actually installed after Acrobat 9 since it no longer works in Mac after Snow Leopard.
There are scripts that will allow you to do simple two-up impositions that don't use creep, and an inexpensive (used to be free, and might be still) plugin for more complex impositions: Overview | IDImposer
But this printer is really not doing his job if he wants you to d the imposition, and I'd be very suspicious of his ability to output your file correctly. Do you have other options?

  • Print booklet in inDesign not printing correctly

I have been having issues with the print booklet feature of inDesign CS6. I am doing a half letter layout. the pages are laid out as the end user would see them. when I click on print booklet and set all of the print settings, everything is fine. the preview show the spreads correctly. example (the back cover and front cover are on one spread with the back being on the left). problem is, once I print, the back cover is replaced by a blank page and the back is then placed on spread 3. page 1 is then placed where the blank inside cover should be.   I mad a 12 page blank document and placed only page numbers on the pages and then printed booklet. the preview was correct and the printed output was also correct. as soon as I add any other elements to the pages, it no longer prints correctly.
this is extremely frustrating. I have wasted a day and a half trying to troubleshoot and get this to work. At this point I am going to lay out the pages the way I want them to print and then rearange them to view properly in PDF, either that or go back to using Quark. anybody know what may be causing this.

Wow, never would have thought you would have that option twice. That seemed to do the trick! Thank you so much. I owe you one!

  • Trouble printing booklet to PDF

I'm using InDesign CS6 on Mac OS 10.6.8. I'm new to Id so any help would be appreciated.
I've created a 20 page booklet (2-up Saddle Stitch; letter-Half V), and when I choose File/Print Booklet, it looks correct in the preview pane, but no matter how I tweak the printer settings the PDF doesn't come out with the proper spread orientation.  Instead, it's forced onto a single page, portrait view and, of course, half of the right side of the spread is chopped off. The pages are properly imposed, but just turned the wrong way.
Because the PDF print option doesn't show up on the printer list, I've been creating a .ps file and converting it to PDF with Adobe Distiller v10. I've tried selecting landscape in the printer settings but as soon as I change the output to postscript, many setting options become grayed-out, and my previously selected setting doesn't get applied.  I also tried just exporting to PDF from Id, but it doesn't seem to give an option for a page imposition.
I've been searching for two days for a solution, but so far nothing seems to effect the final PDF layout. Please help!
    Inés

You can also try a script...
Dave Saunders wrote tow of them that work quite well for simple two-up, no bleed files. The first is at http://pdsassoc.com/downloads/Buildbooklet.zip and as far as I( know still works as recently as CS6, but cannot handle crossovers at the spine. For those you can try Dave's CS3 Booklet Script
The first script shuffles the pages in a new file, and you need to export with the Spreads box checked when you are done. The scond works by placing the original pages into a new file with pages wide enough to hold two of the originals, so you export that with Spreads unchecked.

  • Print Booklet reporting different page sizes

I recently had to reload InDesign CS6 and now on my 16 page booklet I get an error that says the pages are different sizes and it cannot print in "print booklet".  Only after I reloaded the program did I start having this problem. I have been using this booklet template for months. I can save to PDF but prefer to print from InDesign.

I got your file, and I have bad news and good news. We'll start with the bad news.
It does the same thing here. I tried export to .idml, resizing all the pages withthe page tool, and moving the pages into a new file, all without success. My conclusion is there's a page that's corrupt and thinks it's a size that it is not. I looked at the file history, and I see it began life in CS5.5, crashed at least twice and was recovered and went from being edited in version 7.5.0 to 7.5.2 and then back to 7.5.0 before being opened and converted in CS6. My suspicion is that you recycle this file month after month by deleting the stuff that no longer applies, then adding new stuff in. Working that way, over time, small errors can creep into a file, none of which might be enough to cause a problem on its own, but taken together they create a disaster. Version 7.5.0 was buggy, too, so that may not have helped, either.
With a document like this, where a lot of the content is the same over a long period I recommend creating a "shell" document with the things that repeat, your styles, and any swatches you use, then save it as a template file (.indt). For each new version you open the template, whcih gives you a fresh copy. If there is somthing from the previous version that should be reuded, copy and paste from the older version into the new one, or place it again. This workflow greatly reduces the chances of cumulative file damage.
    Now for the good news.
While moving the pages to a new document was not successful, going spread by spread, selecting all, copying, then pasting in place in a new doc did work.

  • Setting compression and resolution in Print Booklet

I'm testing Print Booklet for InDesign CS6 on Windows XP, using Acrobat 8.
I can't find the settings for compression (none) and resolution (288ppi) in the InDesign
    dialogue.
I can set these parameters directly in the parameter list for the 'printer' Adobe PDF,
but these actual settings are not honored. Especially I'm getting always JPEGs instead
    of no compression.
These are the most important windows:
    Sorry for intermediate confusion.

Peter, according to your post #3 one might assume that Print Booklet is
working as expected, if the operator follows some simple rules.
No, it doesn't, but I agree to your statement
Print Booklet to PDF isn't really a recommended workflow
I've updated CS6 for the newest state, it's now ID 8.01.
There are a couple of problems, using Print Booklet for 'printing' as PDF:
    a) Settings for Resolution and Compression cannot be found in InDesign dialogues.
External settings in the 'printer' Adobe PDF are ignored.
    b) Some Encapsulated PostScript components are considered as buggy, though
Export to PDF without Print Booklet for the same pages is flawless, and furtheron
these components themselves are correctly interpreted by other programs
        (MathType, Photoshop, PSAlter...).
    This is the error log:
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
    %%[Page: 1]%%
    %%[Page: 2]%%
%%[ Error: typecheck; OffendingCommand: makefont ]%%
    Stack:
    [448.0 0.0 0.0 -448.0 0.0 0.0]
    -file-
    -mark-
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Obviously, Print Booklet uses the somewhat outdated workflow via PostScript
and Distiller. This is not generally wrong (worked pretty good with PageMaker),
    but here it fails.
Now a few words about IDImposer, which I had tested:
This program creates an imposed version of an InDesign file by generating one PDF
for each page. These pages should be uncompressed and not downsampled, which
is unnecessary for InBooklet SE, where we have only links to already existing
components. The new ID doc contains one PDF per page in the imposed page structure.
Therefore nothing is editable by InDesign. The following Export to PDF leads normally
to correct documents with working Links for URLs (garbled in just one case).
This is obviously not an optimal substitute for InBooklet SE.
    Thanks for the discussion.

I'm trying to print a 72 page document with the "Print Booklet" feature on my new 11x17 printer.
