Print crashes Pages

Hey all. I am having an odd problem. When I try to print a document on my MacBook Pro (Core Duo), my Pages app crashes. I don't even get the screen asking for the settings, it just fails right then and there.
I have tried exporting as a PDF (which is what I am trying to do to begin with) and I get a message that says "Error while printing", then when I click OK, another box shows up stating "EXPORT FAILED, Failed to write PDF file".
I have tried restarting Pages, quiting it, trashing the PList from my User's preferences library, and restarting Pages with identical results. This has worked many times in the past, and just suddenly is not working.
The only difference from last time is that I am on a public WiFi network, but I don't know why that would have anything to do with this.

Hello Mike
Given that you have a general print problem, you are likely to get better help over in the Printing & Faxing forum http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=756.
Good luck.

    I have a new computer. I transferred all my data files and installed my programs. Now, when I try to print a page ti pdf using Adobe Acrobat 9, Firefox crashes, and Adobe hangs up.

    Thanks for your reply cor-el. I had never heard of nor seen the pref network.http.max-connections until I read about it in some of the replies in this support forum. People were saying 256 was the old setting and a new setting of 48 would correct my problem. When I followed the instructions to get to - see - and change the setting I discovered that my network.http.max-connections was already set to 48. I never did this. The only way I can think of that this setting was changed is that it happened by an automatic update to my Firefox browser. So, the problem I have was probably happening while this setting was at 48 all along. It is still set at 48 and I am still having the same problem. I will try as you suggest and set it to 30 and see what happens. I'll let you know the results. That's again for your response.

    foxfire crashes when i try to print and page ie my ncis(firearm), bank statement even if do a print page

    It would appear you have a multi-function printer with a fax.  This device would install as a Fax and as a printer  as seperate devices.  Make sure you are printing to the printer device.  What is your printer model?  What operating system?  What browser are you printing from?

  • Every time that I try to print a page from the internet, my Mac crashes and I get a "Crash Reporter" icon.  Any suggestions?

    Every time that I try to print a page from the internet, My Mac (Maverick 10.9.4) crashes and I see a "Crash Reporter" icon.  Any suggestions?

    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
    For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
              SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
    from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
    In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
    Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
    ☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
    Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
    Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
    ☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
              DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
    (not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
    I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
    If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
    In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
    Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Since I updated to Maverick when trying to print a Pages file, Pages "crashes".

    I regret installing Mavericks!! It has created a multitude of problems for me.  Now after solving some, tried printing a Pages file and Pages keeps crashing. Assume it is another Maverick related issue.

    That document may be corrupted.
    Hold down the shift key when starting Pages 5 to prevent the old file automatically opening and crashing again.
    Pages '09 should still be in your Application/iWork folder, use that instead. Pages 5 is a very cut down and buggy release.

  • Printing web pages on Tiger to HP LaserJets results in 79.01FE error

    I'm cross-posting this question on both Apple's and HP's support forums. I've seen a lot of talk about this problem on various forums but no answers... and the answer has to be somewhere in Apple or HP, 'cause it's not a user-based error. I've spent the entirety of today doing extensive testing and checking -- am convinced there's a bug in the system somewhere that's outside of my control. HELP!
    I've sworn by HP LaserJets for years as the pinnacle of laser printer technology... but, lately, I've been swearing at them because of this wretched 79.01FE error. I don't know what the cause of this problem is, but I can say unequivocally that our systems are up-to-date, so I don't think anyone can dismiss this as being fixable by a firmware update, driver udpate or whatnot (short of Apple or HP actually resolving the problem and issuing an update to whatever is causing the problem). Here's our configuration... if you check the specs, I think you'll see that we're entirely up-to-date as of this writing.
    LaserJet 4MV
    * no updatable firmware
    * using JetDirect 25525B card with firmware A.08.49
    LaserJet 4000TN
    * firmware datecode: 980311 MOBY3.65
    * using JetDirect 600N (J3111A) with firmware G.08.49
    LaserJet 5100TN
    * firmware datecode: 20040115 MB8.23
    * using JetDirect 615N (J6057A) with firmware R.25.53
    LaserJet 8150DN
    * firmware datecode: 20041013 MB7.119
    * using JetDirect 610N (J4169A) with firwmare L.25.53
    workstations
    * Mac OS X 10.4.6 with all latest Software Updates
    * Safari 2.0.3
    * Firefox 1.5.0.3
    * LaserJet drivers 5.5.2 (the universal binary set released 04/20/06)
    Printing certain web pages (www.cnn.com is one example) to the 5100TN or 8150DN results in the following error message on the LaserJet display panel, at which point the printer is locked up and has to be power cycled:
    79.01FE
    PRINTER ERROR
    These pages print just fine to the 4MV and 4000TN, as well as to our Canon ColorPASS. I've seen a lot of talk about this error message on the web -- many people suggest that using Firefox is a viable workaround, but it does not work for us. We have a single Mac still running OS X 10.3.9, and it prints these pages without causing the error, as do any of our Windows XP Professional stations.
    As you can see from my specs above, I've made sure all our printer and JetDirect firmwares are up-to-date. Additionally, I've tried using the recently-released universal binary print drivers (I've even deleted the printers from the printer list and recreated them). I've tried pretty much every trick in the book I can think of, and none of them have been successful.
    ONLY Macs running OS X 10.4.x have this problem. So, yes, I know that Apple's software is a factor here. But, as the problem also ONLY occurs with certain LaserJets, then there's an HP connection in there somewhere as well. I find it really odd that the 4MV and 4000TN -- printers that are older than our 5100TN and 8150DN -- do NOT have this problem.
    Does ANYONE have any idea how to workaround this problem, or if HP or Apple has any ideas about the cause and/or permanent fix for this issue? Having to restart our LaserJets multiple times a day is a BIG pain, and causing frustration and downtime for us as a company. I'd really like to see some headway on this issue, which has been plaguing us for months and, in my opinion, is actually occuring more frequently now than ever.

    I'm using the same swear words as you. There are several threads about this problem - no answers.
    I have a LaserJet 8100N and 8150DN, get the 79.01FE error on the 8150 from print outs from Safari, Firefox, and Preview, for only some sites/documents. CNN.com has become my test site, seems I can crash the printer 90% of the time with their home page at any given time in the day.
    A summary of what I have tried:
    - Upgraded the firmware to the latest for both the JetDirect card and the printer.
    - Swapped the JetDirect cards between the 8100 and 8150.
    - Swapped ram on the 8150 board.
    - Disconnected external trays, bins, and removed extra RAM and hard drives from the 8150.
    - Tried setting the JetDirect link and matching switch port link to 100FD, 10HD, 10FD, 100HD, as suggested by a poster.
    - Tried having client's print to the printer through a XServer Print Server.
    - Can consistently create the error from multiple systems running 10.3.9, 10.4.5, and 10.4.6 (didn't have an install base of 10.4 before 10.4.5).
    Someone in the 'know' (which means they're likely not), said 10.4.7 will likely fix this. Being Apple has not even addressed that the problem exists (that I could find), I doubt the magic fix is a release away.
    Apple's software is triggering something that Windows systems appears not to be, so one could say it's an Apple problem; but ulimately it's HP's software/hardware that is at fault in that it is allowing their system to crash from input alone.

  • Printing a page in Microsoft Word

    Hello,
    Just got my Mackbook back from a crash and they loaded Leopard. Not sure if it's a Leopard thing or I'm losing it but I have a 14 page Word document that I only want to print certain pages from. No matter where I look, I can't seem to figure out where the option to print "To" and "From" went.
    Can someone give me a heads up?
    Thanks

    It's the same in every application: File --> Print --> Pages: From xx to xx
    If it's only Word you're having this issue with I suggest you post your question on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products, as they would be more focused on the issue than an Apple forum:

  • Constant HP printer crashing issues

    Currently if anyone in my dept at my University tries to print a page from the Apple store it immediately crashes our HP 8150 with a 79.01.fe error. I tried saving the page as a PDF, copying and pasting rich text into TextEdit, saving as PS, all still crashed the printer. I tried Safari, FireFox, all to no avail. I then had my windows buddy try to print from FireFox, IE, and Ghostscript and all crashed the #$@#^@$ printer. Then the same from a Kubuntu linux machine. So as it stands I nobody in our offices can print anything out from the Apple Store website and it is making ordering new macbooks such a pain.
    This is a huge problem that are users are seeing in the field too. It has gone on for way too long without HP or Apple saying anything. The below thread on the subject is locked or I would have posted this there.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=728137
    Also machines are 10.4.6/ XP-SP2/Kubuntu 6.06 all the latest patches printing to a HP 8150 with current firmware.

    I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but it appears as if the 10.4.7 update has fixed this problem with our HP 8150, at least in Safari (which has been updated to 2.0.4). Firefox 1.5.0.4 still causes the problem, however.

  • PDFs are always printed 2 pages per sheet

    My system was reformatted recently and everything had to be reinstalled.
    Acrobat Reader XI (11.0.2) and Acrobat Pro 9 (9.0.0*) are now having problems when printing PDFs: every PDF is always printed at 2 pages per sheet. The resulting 4-point type printouts are not useable.
    Word prints 1 page per sheet.
    I'm not exactly sure where to even start troubleshooting this. Any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks in advance!
    *Yes, 9.0.0. When I accepted the last automatic update, Acrobat Pro started crashing on startup. I uninstalled and reinstalled, and am very, very wary about accepting an update right now.

    Well, that was interesting.
    After running the Acrobat Cleaner from the above link, on both Acrobat Pro 9.0 and Reader 11.0.2, it looked like everything was gone.
    However, the company uses CA's IT Client Manager, and its DSM Software Delivery Catalog thinks that Acrobat Pro is still installed. So does Add/Remove Programs.
    Six system reboots and A long call with the help desk later, my case has been escalated to the CA team and we'll see what happens now.
    Reader 11.0.2 is reinstalled, and now? It can't print AT ALL. I get this instead of a printout:
    ERROR: undefined
    OFFENDING COMMAND: Pscript_WinNT_Compat

  • Preview : error while printing several pages per sheet

    I have a pdf file from which I would like to get a pdf with several pages per sheet. I cannot do that using acrobat through printing into a pdf file because it tells me to save it first ! So, as I did before upgrading my OS from SL to Lion, I tried to do it with Preview. The problem is that I get the following message "Error while printing" and no more information.
    - I tried with an other pdf file and I got the same problem.
    - Printing one page per sheet is OK, either into a pdf file or to an actual printer.
    - Printing several pages per sheet from Acrobat to a printer is working fine.
    - I asked to a colleague who is still using SL to do the same procedure with my file and it worked fine.
    My conclusion is that there is something fishy with Preview under Lion.
    Does anyone get into the same trouble than me ? Is there a solution even an alternative one ?

    In the printing configuration window, I selected Layout and then 2 pages per sheet, save in Pdf, select a directory and name then save. At the end of the process, I got the printing error message. Looking at the /var/log/system.log, I got an error message concerning PMSessionEndDocumentNoDialog() returning 1282.
    I am using past because I do not have the problem anymore. My MBP is a bit funny since the Lion upgrade. It looks like windows : from time to time, I get the black screen telling me that I should press the switch on button (like the famous blue screen).
    I am suspecting that XQuartz (last update) is messing-up somehow my laptop (system crashes happened when it was launched or even when it was starting).
    Thanks anyway.

  • Workaround for Reader 10.1.2 print crash issue

    Dear users,
    Based on the feedback provided to us in relation to the recent Print crash issues on Adobe Reader 10.1.2, we are hereby providing the following two workarounds for the problem faced. Please follow the steps below to get rid of this issue:
    WORKAROUND 1:
    Go to Start menu to Select Devices and Printers to access all Network Printers installed on your machine. Right Click to access Printer Properties. Open the Sharing Tab and give your printer a Share Name. If you wish not to share your printer then you may choose to give it a Share Name and then select “Do not Share” Checkbox. Please make sure that all Network printers have been assigned a Share name otherwise problem will persist. Please find below the screenshot for your reference.
    WORKAROUND 2:
    The second work around is to turn off the Protected Mode of the Reader and the problem will be resolved right away. However, it is not advised to keep the application in non-protected mode due to security reasons and it is advisable to turn this setting ON once you are done with your printing task. You can access this setting by going to Edit-->Preferences-->General pane and can find “Enable protected mode at start-up” at the bottom of the window. Please re-start the Adobe Reader after you have made changes to this setting.
    Thanks,
    Atul Agarwal

    Neither workaround 1 nor 2 work for me. I have a very small network, but my printer stands alone on the lan.
    I'm running Windows 7 SP 1. My printer is an hp oj pro 8500 hardwired via lan. When I installed Reader 10.1, all printing stopped. It doesn't crash, but finds the printer, starts to process the file, then a "Save As" window pops up and it wants to save the file as a *.pm. If I cancel, nothing happens and nothing prints. If I Save, it takes a long time (> 1min)  to process the file (simple text, 1 page), then the status box vanishes and nothing prints. I can't find the .pm file anywhere and there is nothing in the printer's queue.
    I installed 10.2.1. Same thing. Tried the patch for 10.2.1 printer crash (even though I'm not really crashing. Just a whole lot of nothing) and same problem.
    Reader 10.1.1 on my mac has no problems finding the printer. I'm leery of upgrading it to version 10.2.1 But we only have the one mac, and I'm stuck with the hp pc.

  • How can I print some pages from multipage report

    Hello,
    I have created a multipage report in word. I would like the user to be able to print the pages selected (as in word printing: pages: 1, 2-3);
    I am using Office 2007 pro, the LabVIEW Report Gen Toolkit, LabVIEW 2009, and Windows XP.
    I used the suggestion in thread:
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/How-can-you-print-a-single-page-of-a-multipage-report/m-p/155233 , modifying the print VI that comes shipped with LabVIEW: NI_ReportGenerationToolkit.lvlib:Word_Print.VI.
    first of all I put two integer constants on "From" and "To" in the Invoke node (PrintOut), but Labview return an error:
    Error 1015 occurred at NI_ReportGenerationToolkit.lvlib:Word_Print.vi -> NI_Word.lvclassrint Report.vi -> print2.vi
    Then I searched for PrintOut Method in word 2007 Reference guide, and I saw that for using From and To the Range field must have the string  wdPrintFromTo;
    I insert wdPrintFromTo string  in RANGE Field and tryed.... same error......
    After that I change approach; removed all constants and used the field Pages; I put a string "1-2" connected to this field and now the printer respond, but all pages was printed!
    What's wrong?
    many thanks

    Thanks, Alex!
    ok, I try first approach in print4.vi, but Labview return an error (view jpg); if I cut From, To controls, the VI print all pages. The same things happen also if I trasform I32 in Variant.
    I don't try second approach, because at this time I have only one report
    I try also with VB macro: this is better (print3.vi) but.....if I use:
    Sub Print_Pages_From_To()
    ActiveDocument.ActiveWindow.PrintOut Range:=wdPrintFromTo, From:="2", To:="3"
    End Sub
    is ok; print the pages selected; if I use:
    Sub PrintPages()
    ActiveDocument.ActiveWindow.PrintOut  Pages:="2-3"
    End Sub
    printer print all pages.
    what do you think?
    regards,
    Italo
