Print dialog appears at random

For the past several months a document I had printed keeps coming up to be printed at random times while using Safari. The document is not even on my HDD any longer. If I choose "print" the page will print, if I choose cancel it goes away only to return at a later time. I'm running Mavericks 10.9.2 and Safari 7.0.3. Is there anyway to get rid of this phantom file?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

From the Safari menu bar, select

  • No print dialog appearing

    Hey folks,  I need your help.  I currently use 10.7.5 and I draw using cadd for a living.  Recently, when I go to print from my drafting software, the print dialog box stopped appearing and instead, it goers directly to the printing window (the small "now printing page 1, page 2....etc.), without asking me what printer, or page size, etc.  This only happens with the drafting application; nothing else (the dialog opens with everything else).  I have been using it for years and I have the most recent version but their tech support tells me it is not their end.  I'm worried that my 1 year old daughter came in without me knowing and started messing with the keys, accidentally changing a setting.  Anyone have this issue?  Any solutions?
    thank you in advance.

    Thanks Greg. I copied cupsd.conf.default to cupsd.conf in case something funny had happened to it.
    Still no luck.
    If I go to add a printer in Printer Setup Utility, there are only three printers with Connection type of "Shared Printer" and they are all on my machine (even though I have not got printer sharing turned on). But on a PowerMac connected to the same network, it shows 14.
    The MacBook Pro can see Bonjour and AppleTalk printers fine, but not shared printers.
    Its firewall is turned off.
    This is driving me mad!

  • How do I force the print dialog to default to Print All?

    Hi all,
    I've searched the forums for this and found several similar requests but no answers so I am posting this as a fresh post.
    I have a requirement to have the print dialog appear when printing from javascript and have it always default to Print All.  From my research, it appears that there are only two API methods to do this:
    1) Print()
    2) PrintWithDialog()
    Neither take paramters.  Both have the same description in the documentation (which seems odd in of itself).
    From our research, PrintWithDialog() appears immediately when called (even if the PDF is not yet fully loaded) but always defaults to, "Print 1 of x" unless the PDF is only 1 page.  In that case, it defaults to Print All.
    The Print() method defaults to Print All.  However, if you call it before the PDF is fully loaded, it does not show.  I have searched these forums and found many other people running into this issue.  One thread suggested to put in a timer to make sure the PDF is loaded and then call print.  This works for small PDFs but our customers could be printing thousands of pages so there is no way to know how long to make the delay.
    I tried paying for Support to answer this question and was told there were NO PAID OPTIONS for getting support on the Acrobat SDK and to come post the question here.  The Support Engineer I spoke with assured me developers read and respond to these forums.
    This is a critical issue for an important customer so any feedback is much appreciated.
    An Adobe employee (Irosenth) mentioned something about a bug being reopened in this thread (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2601148#2601148) but no bug number was ever given.  If it truly is a bug, please provide the number, description and ETA for fix.
    If there is no solution, can I get a response from Adobe that supports my research as posted above?  In other words, confirm that both the API are working as expected?
    Finally, given that it seems many people want this functionality, how do I submit an enhancement request?
    Best Regards,
    Brian

    I downloaded Reader X and the problem is still occurrring, as was reported by the originator of this thread back in November.
    Are there any parameters that need to be set for this to work?  My customer is getting very impatient with this.
    Also, since downloading Reader X the toolbar does not appear by default. It pops up when you hover over the top of the window.   How do I get the toolbar to appear by default?  (this is not nearly as important as defaulting the print dialog to Print All on mulitple page docs when using printwithdialog).

  • Adobe Reader 9.4.6: how to skip print dialog

    Hello,
    in our company we implement a freestanding self-services kiosk project.
    The kiosk uses a browser, which links with internal application server, which contains the required information.
    There's also an option to print some documents via Adobe ActiveX PlugIn. Explored some versions of Adobe Reader, we considered that the most appropriate is version 9.4.6. We strongly needed to set Adobe Reader so that the only clickable button in upper toolbar is “Print” button, and also side navigation panel is hidden (because pdf file opens in the frame within the kiosk system page). We've succeeded with this issue.
    But now we experience one more problem. When the user clicks the "Print" button, the print dialog appears. Is it possible to choose default printing settings and start printing avoiding print dialog by some standard options?
    Or maybe you can provide us an event, which initiates Adobe print dialog, so that we can use it to fire the OK within java script.
    Best regards
      Anton.

    Looks like you need a silent print, take a look at:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/acdc/2011/03/silent-print-in-acrobat-using-javascript.html
    The steps are for Acrobat. You'll need to see if they work with Reader.

  • Print Dialog Printer Button part 2

    Hey All,
    I Posted about this before and never found a fix or workaround. I was hoping since the main dialog seemd to change at 10.1.2 it would be taken care of but it seems no one but our organization sees this as an issue. I guess I'm wondering if we're all just nuts or if there's something blatent we're missing so I'm going to rephrase the question.
    Acrobat 10.1.2 on Mac.
    The Print Dialog contains a "Printer..." buttton by which we can access settings that are not available on the main Adobe dialog.  These include printer mailboxes (on MFPs), some layout options, etc.  As we often use mailboxes and secure printing, these are features which are vital to us being able to operate effectvely.
    If I click the Printer button, a regular Mac OS Print dialog appears, complete with Cancel and Print buttons.  If I click Print on this dialog, it doesn't actually print; I still need to click OK on the main Adobe dialog.  So, it acts more like the main dialog's "sub-dialog" (my term) with additional settings, much like the Advanced button.
    However, if I click the Adanced button as stated above, and all the settings look fine, I can click Cancel on that dialog. When I click OK on the main dialog, it takes into account the settings on the Advanced dialog, even though I clicked Cancel.
    If I do the exact same thing using the Printer button, I get a differerent result.  Even though the settings appear correct, I need to click Print to "apply" these settings to the current print job. I can then click OK and it prints as expected. However, if I click Printer and the sub-dialog's info all looks correct, I would expect either...
    to be able to click Cancel and have those settings still be applied since it is acting as a sub-dialog to the main dialog (like the advanced button)
    or
    when I do click Print on the sub-dialog, have the main dialog automatically click OK since I'm making it clear I want to print using the settings on the Mac Print Dialog (which Acrobat treats as a subdialog to it's dialog)
    with me so far?
    OK, this is not just about an extra click.  We have 40 users with this program and getting them all used to a very counter-intuitive way of doing things if difficult. This is causing us time and money (and possible legal/security issues).  If people expect Secure printing to be in effect when the send a job to a shared MFP, and it isn't, this is a huge problem.
    Again, are we missing something?
    Thanks!
    Jeff

    Thanks Steve.  Seemed like it worked at first but no go. When I go back into the Print Dialog an hit Printer, the settings ARE there but unless you click Print on that dialog, the adobe dialog ignores them.  In other words, if I hit Printer and get the dialog. The settings (using presets) are saved and visible. But if I hit cancel at the dialog (which most people I know would do if they're not changing anything), it disregards the settings.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Print Dialog in Reader 10.0.1

    It seems that in "upgrading" to 10.0.1, Adobe has created its own print dialog which supersedes the driver print dialog. The driver print dialog appeared when choosing Print from Adobe Reader in previous versions, and appears when choosing Print in other applications.
    The Adobe print dialog is inconvenient -- for example, in order to print specific pages, one cannot tab into the field of pages but must use the mouse to select the "Pages" radio dialog button.
    Additionally, if I want to print duplex, I must select "Printer" -- again with the mouse -- then I obtain the driver print dialog, select Print, am returned to the Adobe Reader print dialog, and select Print again.
    How do I suppress the Adobe print dialog and go directly to the driver print dialog?
    To be clear, the Reader print dialog contains five buttons across the bottom Printing Tips" "Page Setup" "Printers" ""Advanced" and "Summarize Contents"
    the driver print dialog lists "Printer" "Presets" "Copies" "Pages" and then a drop-down list that changes what is below -- this drop-down list includes "Layout" "Color Matching" and others. It does include as well two options that would possibly confuse Reader, in the bottom left "PDF" and "Preview"
    Still, the Reader print dialog is very convoluted.

    If you Look down at Bottom of the Acrobat Printer menu
    The page setup, and printer, are hidden click on Acrobat's Printer Menu  at these arrows. Adjust page setup  and choose printer. Setup printer as you would in other applications.
    I agree another Dumb A.. idea from the people at adobe. Why they want t screw with something that has worked for 15 years or so.  The person responsible should get Flogged with 30 lashes.
    I  would like to go to these software  R&D department, sit in front of a Computer,  make the people look  and show them how dumb there Ideas are. Any body who thinks this method is logical faster, is smoking something they shouldn't.

  • Printing Orientation Setting from Properties... Button on Print Dialog

    I am trying to add printing to a graphics application I have developed, and have noticed that if I use the standard code to open the Print dialog:
        PrinterJob printJob = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob();
        printJob.setPrintable(new PagePrinter(0));
        if (printJob.printDialog()) {
            try {
                printJob.print();
            } catch (Exception ex) {
                ex.printStackTrace();
        }the Print dialog appears, and if I click the "Properties..." button for the selected printer (I am testing with an HP 1210), the printer-specific properties dialog allows me to select portrait or landscape orientation, but if I change this setting, click OK, then click Print in the Print Dialog, the change to the orientation setting seems to be ignored,. For example, if Ithe default orientation is Portrait, but I use this setting to change the orientation to Landscape, the PageFormat information passed to my Printable still is based on Portrait orientation.
    The fact that this setting appears to be ignored would be very confusing to a user of my program. Is there a solution to this problem?
    I have the same problem if I use the Book class, in that I have to indicate the page format I want to use for each page when I call "append" on my Book instance, and when the Print dialog is subsequently opened, if I click "Properties..." and change the orientation, this change is ignored.
    It there any recommended way to handle this?

    I have the same problem too. Anyone got a solution?

  • Printing multiple screen objects (ALV+GFW) with only 1 print dialog pop-up?

    All,
    This is related to my previous post at:
    Re: How to print multiple ALV Grids with only one print dialog?
    but there is still one open question...
    My requirement is to create reports that will be called through portals; those reports are a combination of charts and the associated list output describing the data of each chart.
    In my first report (4 charts), I created a screen with 8 custom containers: 4 on the left hand side for the charts and 4 to the right for the list output.
    To create the charts I am using the Graphical Framework (GFW) and for the ALVs the new CL_SALV* classes.
    Everything works fine on the screen, but the users also want to print the report. I got them to the point where they will accept a separate printout (page) for every object (e.g. chart and ALV) of the report.
    I put a print button through the GUI status on the screen and trigger the associated print events in the program; this works fine as well, but the problem is that for every output (in this case 8) a print dialog appears and prompts the user for a printer selection. This the users won't accept and - quite frankly - I wouldn't either ;).
    Now, in my previous post someone pointed me to the use of the REUSE* function modules to append the ALVs and then print them together; this works and reduces the print dialog to only one for the ALVs.
    Even though this is an option, I am still kind of hesitant: why using all the great new OO stuff via the CL_SALV* classes to bring the ALVs on the screen, just to go back to the old approach for the printouts???
    Especially since I still can’t figure out how to combine the GFW objects in one print – or even better – how to suppress the dialog by passing the information behind the scenes either.
    As of now, I have 2 options:
    - 8 print dialogs (OO only)
    - 5 print dialogs (using the REUSE approach for the ALVs and triggering the chart prints individually)
    Does anyone see a way to bring it down to ONE?
    Thanks,
    Guenther

    Update: I found the solution for the ALVs!
    Even though I am using the
    "new-page print on parameters G_S_PRINT_PARAMETERS no dialog" statement, the dialogs still appeared; reason for this was that I also set:
    "L_O_PRINT->SET_PRINT_ONLY( IF_SALV_C_BOOL_SAP=>TRUE )" before I output the ALV table.
    After removing this, the ALVs are printing without pop-up!!!
    Unfortunately the GFWs still prompt for the printer selection

    Hi,
    Mine is also same requirement and i could not even generate multiple print dialogs.Can i have your code to compare with my code please.
    I am displaying container information on 200 screen PBO. I have added one custom print button to the grid tool bar(remaing container toolbar print buttons i have disabled). Once i click on custom print button a popup is coming and when i click on continue(one container informtion print is coming) and  it is coming to 100 screen(in this, i am calling selection screen as a subscree) and subsequent print dialog is not coming.

  • Photoshop CS5 Mac Printer dialog

    I cannot get a printer dialog window for any printer that I have tried ( Epson or HP). When I choose "Print" or type Command P the Photoshoop printing dialog comes up (choice of  printer, page setup, Color Management etc), but on clicking Print not printer dialog appears, and a print is made. I am unable to choose any of  the options normally available for the printer. I am working on a 27" iMac,  and I still have CS4 installed. (Thank goodness! I can use it to print in contrast to CS5.)
    Any suggestions?

    Laurie
    I'm not sure that I understand  the source of your problem with the Epson profiles, but I don't think that it has anything to do with having both versions, CS4 and CS5 being installed on the same machine. Having them both running at the same time might cause some problem both I don't know what that would be.
    What is always more perplexing is the location of the Epson profiles. The Epson driver software, for whatever the reason, installs the standard  profiles for its papers in a "package" located in Hard Disk Name > Library> Printers > Epson > Inkjet Printer>ICC Profiles> Pro38.profiles. You cannot discover this by doing a search of your Mac. Once you have navigated  to the "package" however, you can view its contents by holding down the Control key, clicking on the package and  choosing Show Package Contents. After then navigating down to Resources you will discover the 3800 profiles all named Pro38...
    Why Epson chooses to hide its profiles in a "bushel basket" I have no idea but, the profiles should  be discoverable by CS4 or CS5 or any other program that uses ColorSync. I suppose that you could do the following safe experiment if you do find the package  and  the contents are as  described. Make an alias of  the package (or one of each of  the individual profiles) and put the alias(es) in your usual ColorSync folder. That ought to work and reveal to you the profiles that you want to use in CS5. It should also prevent any interference with whatever peculiar scheme Epson has for hiding the profiles in the first place.
    And  just to make matters a little more confusing (!) if you download and install any of  Epson's custom profiles these will go into a folder named Epson Stylus Pro 3800 and this folder in turn will be found in Hard Disk Name > Library > Color Sync > Profiles.
    I hope  that is helpful.
    Finally, the problem I had was simply that I did not realize that Adobe had changed the printing routine but incorporating access to the printer dialog into its own Print dialog window. where it used to say Page Setup it now says Print Settings{!}, and  in the Print Settings dialog it now says Save rather than Print. So the final say on actually getting the printer to print is  in the CS5 printing dialog window - not in the Epson printer dialog. And why did  they do that? Well .. if you're going to sell an upgrade you have to make some changes, and  if  you can do it - why not?

  • Print dialog box too big

    Adobe Reader 8.1.2; Windows XP; screen resolution 800 by 600 pixels.
    Normally, whenever I print a PDF, I click on the printer icon on the toolbar or go to File > Print. The Print dialog appears, and I click on the OK button at the bottom of the box.
    Recently, for some unknown reason, the Print dialog appears too big on my screen, and I cannot see the OK button at the bottom of the box.
    However, when I change the screen resolution to 1024 by 768 pixels, I can see the OK (to print button), but all other text, icons, etc., are too small to read.
    Ultimately, I need to see the OK (to print button)and the text, icons, etc., need to be sized larger, to the 800 by 600 pixels resolution.
    TIA,
    Jerry D.

    I am trying to resolve a similar problem on a Toshiba laptop running Vista. Dialog boxes are being displayed that fill the entire screen truncating the OK, Cancel and Apply buttons that should appear at the bottom of the dialog box. This is happening on all contol panel and games settings dialog boxes. I have tried the Toshiba zoom settings (FN+Space), but this has not foxes the problem.

  • Mavericks Mail Print dialog hangs?

    Several times when I try to print an email messsage, the Mail Print dialog appears, complete with preview which looks fine.
    The cancel, print, pdf, printer and presets buttons are responsive, but neither Print nor Cancel do anything other than flash to ack the click, and the print form remains pinned as the topmost window whenever Mail is active.
    I'm printing three page message to a Xerox Phaser6360DN, and have been able to print a lot of mail and other docs since upgrading to Mavericks a few days ago.
    Any ideas of what's wrong / how to fix?
    Any suggestions for killing the pinned Print dialog without doing a Mail Force Quit?

    John - Thanks for the suggestions. Next time I'll try changing printers / using PDF menu actions rather than just testing their pull down reasponse.
    I didn't see anything terriblely helpful in /Utlities/Console, but will look again and try your suggestions if/when it happens again.
    I needed to get Mail working and recovered with a force quit...

    hi all,
    thank you for replying. i got rid of the print dialog box by filling in defaults->spool control->output device in the user profile->own data. And i just set the following in my code:
      ltp_control_parameters-no_dialog = 'X'.
      ltp_control_parameters-preview = 'X'.
    And also previously i mistakenly reset ltp_control_parameters-preview to 'LOCL' (refer to my previous post).

  • Printer dialog box does not appear in Photoshop CS.5

    I use Photoshop CS.5.1 with a Macbook 2013 using version 10.9.5. The printer works perfectly with all other applications but in Photoshop no printer dialog box comes up and the print job does not appear in the printers queue. Anyone the same issues?

    First, try nuking (deleting them and letting the application create new ones) your Photoshop preferences:
    To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
    Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
    Important: If you re-create the preferences by deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
    Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.

  • Word styles not appearing in Print Document Appearance dialog

    My custom list styles in Style Mapping.dot are not appearing in the Print Document Appearance dialog when I try to map CSS styles to Word styles.
    The styles do appear in the template when I open it in Word. They appear in the styles task pane whether I select "In current document" or "In use" in the Style Pane Options dialog in Word. The styles have the same name (such as "Bullet" or "Number") in Word as the CSS styles in RoboHelp.
    I tried saving Style Mapping.dot as .dotx, thinking that RoboHelp 8 might work better with the current template type, but no help. I tried adding the template to the same folder as the Normal.dotm template is in and opening it there. No improvement.
    Oddly, the built-in Word styles List, List 2, & etc and List Continue and its series appear in the Robo dialog, but the styles List Bullet and others in that series do not appear.
    I suppose I could modify the list styles that do appear in Robo and map them to my CSS list styles, but that feels a bit like a desperate kluge.
    Does anyone know what might be wrong, either with my Word template or with Robo, that might be causing what seem to be perfectly good Word styles to not present themselves for mapping?
    Thanks again,
    John

    Peter,
    I think your discussion of this problem could explain the situation and propose a workaround more simply than it does.
    Based on your article, I assumed that Robo displays only the built in Word list styles such as List and List Continue (since those were the only styles showing up in the style mapping dialog and since your example shows matching a Robo style named List Mapping to a Word built in style named List). I assumed I would have to match my Bullet style to a style named List in Word, and match the indented bullet style to List 2, and so on. The actual situation is that Robo, for some godforsaken reason that only idiots would understand, will not show a Word style if any numbering (bullets or numbers) is applied to it. That is, one does not have to avoid a class of styles called “List styles”, one only has to avoid applying numbering to the styles until later.
    Thus the workaround is to create the word styles (with names that match the Robo styles!) that contain every attribute you need EXCEPT the numbering. That is, I can link Bullet to Bullet and Number to Number and Indented Number to Indented Number, and so on and on, as long as I have all the Word styles in the template with their numbering set to None.
    Then after I generate the document, I can modify the styles to add the appropriate numbering, and voila!
    Currently scrolling the doc & modifying styles. Might be a glimpse of daylight.

  • Print dialog freezes randomly with HP driver

    Using the HP LaserJet 3330 MFP - Gutenprint v5.1.3 driver.
    Occasionally when I, or my colleagues with Macs, try to print from any application, Carbon or Cocoa to this particular printer, the print dialog freezes. By freezes, I mean that the dialog comes up, and you cannot click any button or change any text. The only solution is to kill the app then logout and log back in to get it to function again.
    Any ideas how to solve this? It is repeatable on different computers, although we can't find a specific pattern to the occurrence.

    Hi, altruist77
    To narrow down the list of possible issues, it may be a good idea to boot the system into Safe Mode and try the same steps as before and see if the issue still occurs. The printers will not load in safe mode, so you would not be able to print to them anyway. But I am curious to see if the print dialog will still make the computer hang.
    To boot into safe mode, either restart your computer or start from a cold boot. Begin tapping F8 at the splash screen and continue to tap the button until a menu appears. One of the options on this menu should be Safe Mode with Networking. Select this option and the computer will boot. Some features are removed from Safe Mode, so the display will likely look very different, but it is normal. Run the steps in this mode and see what happens.
    Best of luck, and let me know how it goes
