Print Dialog Slower on some machines
It's the difference between 10 seconds and instant. Of course it's slower on the VPs machine, so I'm looking into it.
So far I've tried :
disabling fonts
removing all files from /etc/cups
changing from DHCP to static.
running Onyx
Anything else I can try?
I thought this problem might be network related, but I've also tried the printer as USB and it still exhibits the same problem.

Print dialog slow to bring up and work with in Adobe Reader XI
Hi,
Since I upgraded Adobe Reader from version 9 to version 11, everyone is complaining about an extreme slow response from the print dialog box to bring up, but to work with it (mostly change printer and browse advanced properties) as well. It may takes at least 6 to 14 seconds to respond some times...
I did not uninstall the previous version before installing the new one. Once I noticed the problem, I used the Adobe Cleaner Tool, and also manually removed the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader and the Adobe Reader folders in Program Files. I restarted the server, then I installed version XI one more time, and restarted again. Unfortunatly, still experiencing same problem...
Adobe Reader is installed on Windows 2003 R2 Terminal servers, on which every users are logging using RDP or ICA protocol. The printers are connected on their profiles from a print server via GPO.
Any suggestions ?

Safe path
Acrobat 6.0 introduced the concept of a safe path for JavaScript methods that write data to the local hard drive based on a path passed to it by one of its parameters.
A path cannot point to a system critical folder, for example a root, windows or system directory. A path is also subject to other unspecified tests.
For many methods, the file name must have an extension appropriate to the type of data that is to be saved. Some methods may have a no-overwrite restriction. These additional restrictions are noted in the documentation.
Generally, when a path is judged to be not safe, a NotAllowedError exception is thrown (see Error object) and the method fails. -
using acrobat pro 9 on win 7, and today the print dialog has become very slow, to the point the program goes into does not respond mode before it tries to print
We use Adobe Acrobat XI Standard and Acrobat XI Professional and on windows machines today the print dialog is taking a very long time to display. We also had an issue with Adobe Illustrator that was fixed when resetting the preferences. We are thinking it has to deal with the Time Change over the weekend. Boy is Adobe Ridiculous to not have something on this yet!!!

Outlook Connector very slow on some machines
Hi,
I have installed outlook connector on 3 machines, and it's really slow on 2 of them. Identical hardware, identical Outlook version. Installed all updates from Microsoft...
Simple test:
Start outlook, wait a bit (so it's done loading and stuff), click on a shared folder with 50 mails.
On the fast one, this is practically instant, with the folder-contents showing up at once.
On the slow ones, this takes about 7 seconds from click to the folder-contents showing up. Also, it shows the "Synchronizing folder"-dialog (just shows the dialog for a couple seconds, then it vanishes and the folder-contents show up. No progress bar movement)
Outlook 2003 (11.8313.8221) SP3
Connector 7.3 update 1
Messaging server 7.3-11.01 64bit

I can't seem to get any IMAP telemetry logs from outlook connector....
I wasn't quite sure what was meant when the docs say create a directory imap/<userid>. What is the userid? So I tried some variations. This is for user in the default domain. Tried jdoe, [email protected] and an alias address (it was the mail-value in ldap). Nothing appeared when using the outlook connector, but when I added the account as an imap account in outlook, logs appeared in the jdoe-directory... Doesn't the outlook connector use imap???
Yes it does. Telemetry logs are only created for new connections after the telemetry directory for the user has been created. So you would need to restart Outlook to get the log files.
(btw: imap idle doesn't seem to work when using outlook connector, but works when using imap account...?)It definitely appears Outlook Connector does not make use of IMAP IDLE. A quick search didn't reveal any existing enhancement requests to have this functionality added.

Safari 3.01 beta (Windows) too slow on some machines
On certain Windows machines I have, the Safari 3.01 beta is incredibly slow, as reported by a few others in this forum. The pages--any page, from the simple Google search page to local .html files--will ultimately load after minutes, often with pictures and other embedded objects timing out. That this happens with local .html files as well as sites readily accessible in other browsers indicates it's not a connectivity or networking problem per se.
OK, I've now uninstalled and re-installed, with various combinations of clearing out the user settings under the %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Apple Computer or not, and still cannot get around this problem.
I cannot identify anything in common between the machines except for the Safari Beta and that they are Windows XP Professional SP2 systems with all current updates as of now. The particular machine from which I'm posting this has the problem; it's a Celeron 4/2.6 GHz with 1 GB RAM, so it shouldn't be an issue.
Incidentally, this is really an alpha release that doesn't remotely deserve to be tagged as a beta; I know that catching the WWDC deadline to publicize the release was important, but Apple should come clean as to the level of testing and alpha status of this product, even if it is free, considering it is being so publicly advertised and wrongly hyped as fast. I'd trade stability for (reasonable) speed any given day, especially for those of us whose primary interest in the product is Web design QA under different browsers/rendering engines.

Canon MG6120 -- slow initialization of print dialog
How can I speed up the initialization of the print dialog box with my Canon Pixma MG6120 copier-printer-scanner? I watch the spinner for 5 mins between asking to print and receiving the print dialog box.
This is my third Canon Pixma printer. So I am familiar with their look, feel, and personality. They have been real workhorses for me in the past. This is my first real test of this machine however. And this is WAY TOO SLOW for my production environment.
I am on a MacBook using 10.5.8, connecting to the printer using a USB cable. My MacBook is powered by satellite wifi.
Is this a printer driver problem? Should I update the Apple-recommended driver I installed 6 months ago in the initial set-up? I have checked for software updates and have received none from Apple for the printer driver.
Thanks for any insight!Canon did release a v10.51.2.0 driver in August of this year. This will be a later version than that available via Apple or on CDs included with the printer. You can check the version you have installed via Print & Fax > Options & Supplies > General.
If you already have the latest version then you could look at using Printfab for a test. The printer driver suite supports your MG6120 and if it shows the same slow speed then at least you know that it is not the Canon driver at fault. One the other hand, if it prints without delay then you could buy the software for EUR 49. You mention having a production environment. This driver suite has been designed for exactly that type of environment. -
Slow print dialog problem in Leopard
I'm experiencing a significant slowness from when I press cmd-P to print to when the actual print dialog shows up. In another Mac system in the house with a similar configuration (tho Intel Mac), the print dialog with the same Epson LP-S5500 driver doesn't take A MINUTE to show up.
I thought it might be a permissions error, which cannot be repaired right now under Leopard for some reason. Anyone have any ideas why the print dialog is so freaking slow to appear? Every time I make a change to the dialog after it comes up takes another minute. It's quite frustrating.

ID CS5 (7.0.4) painfully slow opening print dialog box
I've been having this issue for quite some time and finally getting around to finding out what's going on.
I counted 38 seconds between the time I hit Control-P, and the time the print dialog box opens up. ID looks like it has hung up until it finally opens the print dialog box.
Edit: meant to say that my documents are all very simple text-based pages with a simple letterhead graphic file embedded, 5-6 pages usually.
Any suggestions on how to fix this, such a lot of wasted time waiting.

ID CS5 7.0.4That would be MY first step. It takes no real time and will eliminate it as a possibility. Next thing I would do is trash prefs: see Replace Your Preferences
If neither of those works, I'm not sure what I would do next... Perhaps have a look at what else is running that could be slowing things down. -
JFileChooser (again!) slow in JRE 1.6.14 on some machines, not others
I am running ImageJ (from the NIH) on several of our machines and on some machines JFileChooser is lightning fast, while others exhibit the same slowness spoken of in another JFileChooser thread that is now in a locked state. We open large image files (tif, png) located on our SAN and from the network traffic I see in Windows Task Manager while opening a folder containing the images I would guess that JFileChooser is actually opening the files (intentionally or not), not just obtaining a folder listing. It's similar to the same issue of opening a large folder of images with the view set to thumbnails - it takes about the same amount of time. I have tried the suggestions in that thread to no avail - the environment the machines are running is:
Windows XP SP3
Java JRE 1.6.0_14
Can anyone comment on what JFileChooser is doing and how I can get it to stop this? Is it a Windows environment setting so that the native API calls made by JFileChooser will behave differently? Thoughts?

TomI can't be absolutely sure, but we have several seemingly identical machines used for the purpose of reading medical images and several of them appear to work correctly (very fast loading and population of the folder's contents) and others don't. I have been using eclipse to enhance the software tool we're using (ImageJ) and using the debugger I can see that when the JFileChooser object is being instantiated and populated with entries a tremendous amount of network traffic occurs. This network traffic is equivalent to the amount I see when the same folder is opened in My Computer using a thumbnails view of the folder contents. Apparently, the network is delivering approximately 300-400 MB of images. As far as configuration of the Windows machines is concerned I haven't found a significant difference yet, though I admit I am not a Windows desktop admin and may not know of some configuration item that could be responsible. I assume (though could be mistaken) that both My Computer and JFileChooser are ultimately using similar API calls to get the folder content entries?

Reader x 10.1.3 doesn't show print dialog when printing, for some users on Terminal Server
We are running Windows Server 2003 with Terminal Services for approximately 10 remote users.
A few days ago, some users started to complain about not being able to print pdf documents to their printer. I discovered that the print dialog box doesn't open, so they can't even select another printer.
If reader is set to open in browser, it just crashes the browser, if it set to open in Reader itself, it does nothing, no dialog,
I've tried removing the printer and reinstalling. Since it works from the console without issues, I thought it may be permissions related, so I added users to administrators group, with no success.
They can print from Outlook, Word, etc....just not pdfs.
Can anyone help?

Running Mavericks OS on MacBookPro...had some hard crashes past 24 hours...forced reboots....now can't print anything from Office or Firefox. Both crash during print dialog - changing printer causes instand crash. My system printed fine before the crashes yesterday. I can print from the Stickies app and safari printed fine. I did a full Shutdown/restart and that didn't work. Ideas on how to get PPT files to print again or print from firefox??

CR 2008 SP2 - Slow to open Print Dialog or Page Setup Dialog (And SP3+)
When I am designing my report in CR 2008 SP2 and select either Page Setup or Print from the File menu, Crystal Reports stops responding for about 5 minutes and then the dialog box will open. I created a blank report and did not add anything to it and this continues to happen. The program operates at normal speed otherwise. It is quick to startup and load reports. Any ideas on why this is so slow?
Update: I have also tried checking the box in page setup that says No Printer but the problem persists.
Update 2: I have updated from SP2 -> SP3 -> FP 3.1 -> FP 3.2 -> FP 3.3, and after each upgrade I tried both Print and Page Setup and it continued to exhibit the same slowness as in SP2.

I just completed updating my OS and I am still experiencing the behavior. I have applied every update available through Windows Update. I just reformatted my computer two days ago so this is a pretty fresh install.
This problem existed before my reformat as well however. A few months ago, Crystal did not have this slow issue when opening either Print or Page Setup dialogs. About a month ago these two dialog boxes just became very slow. I hoped reformatting would get rid of this issue but it persists. I also experience this slowness on a different computer that I am using.
One idea I just tried is to shutdown the Print Spooler service in Windows. The print dialog won't open at all but it does quickly tell me Warning: No Printer is installed on this system. The Page Setup dialog on the other hand opens immediately, however, the Printer Options group box is totally greyed out. This "fix" is of course no good to me since I cannot print, but perhaps it narrows down the issue to something regarding printing and/or printers? -

No answer here, just thought I'd say you're not alone. I was cruising the forum to find an answer for the same issue. I upgraded our G4 based mini's running 10.4 to the newest Intel Mini with 10.6. Now print jobs that finish in seconds on the old machines take 5 - 6 minutes. I've loaded the most recent drivers from Xerox, but no change. I have a support call in to Xerox and will post back if they can fix this.

I have not seen an answer to what seems a common problem with Leopard: very slow (spinning ball) switches from one printer to another in the print dialog box on multiple applications. Any suggestions?

- Slowness is apparent even when accessing the 'print & fax' system preference
- Can find no error message in any common 'log'
- Once printer sheet or panel has appeared it can be reaccessed at normal speeds.
– Seems the delay occurs on each new document.
- Problem first occurred with 10.5.1
Maybe the issue lies with CUPS printing errors.
Have tried an Archive & Preserve Users install. Someone please post a fix!

Why do I keep getting " connect to iTunes to get push notifications
